Apologies if this has been said already.
Good post!
Some apps gathered and despatched location information even when an application was not running and some sent updates every 30 seconds.

First of all, anyone have a list of the apps? And secondly, could the above be the reason that alot of people running Android suffer worse battery loss than others?
u can find a setting like that next to the gps switch in the settinngs menu

Nope, apps on the android market are not vetted or checked.
You are expected to check the permissions an app uses, and decide to install or not. When one of our team published an app, it appeared within seconds on the market available for install.

Very informative.

Im not so much annoyed they are getting information from me. At the end of the day there is very little information they can take.
BUT:
I am annoyed that apps are doing things I have not asked them too. Thats the single most annoying thing an application can possibly do!
I want my phone to do what I ask of it.
Not what some developer wants... What are they? A bunch of little steve jobs?!
Im glad the devs here are trustworthy..
Does anyone know a way to end the angry birds lag. Every time I play I get constant lag?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
When I used to play angry birds a lot, I would do:
1) Overclock the phone - this really helps a lot in terms of eliminating lag.
2) Turn off my data and wifi - this is so that there are no ads or banners while I'm playing (the ads really slow you down)
I also noticed that sometimes when I start a level (the bigger levels), if I wait a couple of seconds for it to load completely, the game runs a lot smoother.

Hi there... What does overlocking the phone mean?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
It means making the phone faster than it comes in the box. It makes it faster but ur phone may not last as long in battery and in total life
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
And how do u do that?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
U have to flash a custom kernal and download a app called setcpu, unless ur on cm7 that comes with some custom settings for that
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
That's basically how I fixed the lag also. The new versions also come with a toggle to turn the background off (which helps tremendously imo albeit looking ugly).
Currently, the only thing that bugs me in Angry Birds for the Aria is that my (maybe others' ?) screen is extremely sensitive. Just holding my finger still on the screen makes the sling shake, shiver, stutter, wiggle, etc. Makes it hard to do consistent shots.

IRT the sensitive screen, yes. same thing here and it's annoying as hell lol...
My experience has been that both Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja lag on the stock ROM. Once I switched to CM7, even though I didn't overclock (I used CM7's CPU manager to set max 600 Mhz, min 245 Mhz) there was no more lag in either game. CM7 will also get you awesome battery life when wifi is off.

Overclock to 806 and turning off mobile data
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Get the Amazon App store version. I downloaded the Angry Birds Rio. No ads and it's sooo smooth. I'm overclocking at 806mhz but I think the ads slow it down. I'd imagine the ad free version of the original would be smooth too. Btw Rio is for free right now. Probably only 8 hours left?
Edit never mind. Only a little more than an hour left. Get it fast or you gotta pay

I got root tools <I think it was $2> and it has a feature to block MOST apps and also lots more it probably became one of my favorite apps after I bought it
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Just get DroidWall...
Instead of turning off data, you could just install DroidWall and block Angry Birds from using wifi or mobile data. That gets rid of the ads, and seems to work. I believe the app needs root to function.
I'm also running CM7 latest nightly and drowningchild SIO kernel OC'd over stock 600MHz.

This is what I did and it works. No ads. The way it should be.

Just wonder if there is a way to lock out certain apps like vzw nav and vcast? I wanna give my tab to my going to 9yr old step son for his birthday. There is no CC attached to his Google so that is safe, but I know the vzw crap will get tapped if I don't lock it some how. He loves words with friends and angry birds.....hey he is learning how to spell better! Any help would be great!

yeah i think this could help

I guess I could just pull the apk file.

Buy App Protector Pro. There are several like it on the Market, but that's what I recommend. Let's you lock whatever apps you want and toggle it on/off with a widget. I use it on my Tab anytime I'm handing it to someone who wants to play with it.
Cool thanks!

install titanium backup PRO and freeze these apps.
Not sure if this was posted already, but I managed to locate this if anyone wanted to try it out. Works fine on my Epic.

renting movies
Not sure if they have created a hack to get around this problem. but rooted users need to beware of renting movies, it will say you cant watch the movie after you've already paid for it

ever since installing this, I'm getting a lot of force closes on a lot of different apps. tweetdeck, roam control, titanium backup, and a few more. I'm flashing a backup to see if that fixes it. will report back when I do
Edit 1: I went to applications > Manage Applications and deleted updates from market to see if that would do the trick first. after doing so, now the market force closes like crazy. flashing backup now, will most likely report when I wake up tomorrow
Loving it so far want to download a movie but a lil scared maybe tomorrow so far so good

I'm always looking to find new, wonderful apps, so, out of all the apps on your Bionic (which you've added from the market, not stock), which would you miss the most if they were to suddenly disappear from the Android world, and why?
For me:
1) FBReader (as I love reading Ebooks, and the Bionic screen is good enough to make reading on it worthwhile)
2) JuiceDefender Ultimate (WiFi control and nearly 2x battery life improvement? Yes, please)
hmm
friendcaster cause the fb app sucks
and
xda cause i love reading up on the new gadgets n mods

Stitcher - Definitely helps with the long drive to work

Can I say one that was already removed?
Better Keyboard as well as all the other "Better___" apps.
They were kicked off the market cuz of some copywrite violation.
Elixir - One stop shopping for everything going on with your phone.
Caustic - Its like having Reason in your pocket! (for all you musicians)
I've heard recently that FL Studio is coming to Android very soon...can't wait!

I'd like that one back also. I bought that app and can no longer download it.

One app I miss is SNESOID. It was removed a while back and some other developers have been taking it's spot, and in some cases posting the exact same app. I still have the app, but it's a shame that the original SNES emulator for android is no longer up.

Evernote because it's the all around best note taker/organizer for what I do, and Runkeeper, because it's a great motivator and tracker and saves at least $100 as I don't faced to buy a separate device.

Tasker - without it, my smartphone feels dumb.
Springpad - better than even Evernote at keeping my life in order.
Swyped from my Droid Bionic, unless I was in landscape, in which case I Swiftkeyed the hell out of it.
DROID iris and fishing 2 go.

If we're talking root related apps that's hard, bootstrap, CWM, root explorer, and titanium backup. Non rooted apps I'd say dolphin HD and hex defense.

DroidEmu is basically the same thing, but it includes all Atari, Sega, and Nintendo systems. The UI is identical
