I made the the mistake of activating the lockscreen password feature of my Galaxy Note and now I can't seem to deactivate the feature. When trying to turn off screen lock password under the security menu - you will see in the screenshot that it "deactivate" option is greyed out.
Anyone know why its like this? How to go around this problem? By the way, I am using ICS Version 4.0.3.

Nope its not a custom ROM. I'm using the official update from Samsung.
setting - security - screen lock - select None
Edit : sorry just now seen screenshot, its not available for you.
are using any password storage appl n deleted it?
I think wiping can solve this, but not advisable on ICS.
have you tried changing the option ? Like selecting Pin Number, Then see if 'None' becomes selectable ?
Sure is strange

Hi,
If you go to the samsungdive.com website and register your device, you will be able to reset any activation priorly set with the remote 'unlock screen' feature.

Same happened to me, not sure whether you've had solved yours.
Anyway, go to Setting<Security<Clear credentials
i know this is an old post, but i faced somewhat of a similar problem. couldnt select any option but pin and password, everything else was greyed out.
go to settings---->security---->clear credentials (at the very bottom)
its caused by some certificate which doesnt let u remove lockscreen. hope it helps.

I have a cousin that frequently messes with my phone and i was wondering if there is an option or a software that when it comes from sleep mode it requests a code so you can access it, kind of what that iphone has.
thanks in advance

I'm using advanced configuration. In the 'screen' menu you can enable auto device lock. When you turn off the screen, the phone gets locked automatically! Works fine, to prevent unwanted things to happen with your phone.

this does not show up in my advanced config i have 3.3 and the htc touch pro for alltel. here is another lock option though
Start>Settings>Lock> then you can set the device to auto lock every xx mins
oh yeah this one too but also wont work on alltel phone
To auto-lock the device whenever the backlight turns off:
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\?ControlPanel\?BackLight\?AutoDevic eLockEnable, change from 0 to 1, and everytime your backlight goes off the device is locked.

noob here. How does one use "advanced configuration"? I've hunted through all the menu items under setting / etc and cant find any way to get to "advanced configuration". Are you guys talking registry editing? I'd like to use the automatic lock feature also.
I have a TP with the stock Alltel ROM.
Thanks for the help!

Question
So it would help me if i had a little more detail... Like what rom do you have and wm 6.1 or 6.5 Also if you have a rom with 6.5 there is a feature like that built in. It has a slide to unlock at the top and you can have it ask for a four digit password. Just pm me if you want to know more.
If you really want what the iPhone has, look into S2U2 in the Development and Hacking section. As of v1.60 or so, there has been a password lock in place. It's not perfect, but it will stop those who don't know all the loopholes around it.

Which version of Advanced Config are you using? I've installed 3.3 and auto device lock is not an option. Psycho_M has the same.

Thanks. It is time I flashed new Rom.
When I got mine I had the same problem, no way to configure lock screen, after many many tries it works, no reason to work, no reason to not work, I think should be a bug.

Guys
I can't get mine to work either!
Put a password and a swipe code thingy a few times now and nothing.
Just keeps saying lockscreen off!
Any ideas?
Ok I found the solution.
You have to click location / security header at the top of the screen after you've selected continue once you enter password or pattern.
Phone is completely stock. Is there any utilities to get pass the lock screen password? Can the carrier unlock it or Samsung without wiping it out?
Thanks in advance.

Think I've read somewhere that's it's possible via adb, but you'd need usb debugging to have been previously enabled before you got locked out.
That's all I got as a possibility....

Thanks for the reply. Unless usb debugging is checked by default, I'm 99% sure she did not check it.

I don't see it happening I your case. It's kind of the whole reason behind a lock code. Factory reset is going to be your only hope.

I dont know if things have changed. but before if you kept failing. eventually It would ask you if you forgot your password. Then you would it would email your gmail mail account with a link and instructions to unlock your phone.

We've tried so many times and it hasn't prompted us forgot password questions.
I see under the stock recovery you can still side load through adb.

I'm not thinking our phones do that.

I thought I would post what I think was the problem in case someone else has the issue. I think it is Gmail verification feature. It maybe possible if you forget your phone password, you can use the Gmail email password to get in as mention on some of the post? AT&T also said she should be able to unlock phone with Gmail password. Details below.
Phone has been reset a few days from posting this. Good thing pictures are syncing with Google Drive.
I believe the problem why the password would not work is because of Google's verify feature on Gmail. For example when you go on to another computer and try to access your gmail, it will ask for a verification code and send you a text with the verification code. I believe this was the problem because once the phone was hard reset, the phone would not accept her Gmail account password. After diagnosing this issue, I decided to try to disable the verification feature on Gmail. Once it was disabled, I was able to get past the Gmail password issue.
To avoid from this happening again I put Androidlost which will allow me unlock the phone remotely. Great App especially being free. My wife doesn't want the phone rooted so this is the best solution for me plus I been using this App since the Galaxy S2 was released and never had an issue with the App. I actually had the app installed before she got locked out but never finish registering the phone, yeah that sucked. Lesson learned the hard way.
Thanks everyone who tried helping.
If u have linked your phone with android device manager you can simply change the password to whatever you want on android device manager on your desktop.

This seems to be a known bug. It will most probably happen again, I updated the Google Play Services to the latest beta and now it's working for two straight days in a row, before, it would stop and go white every one to two days.
anyone got it working?
I've found the setting.
You'll need a launcher such as Nova or use Tasker to send the intent. If using Nova Launcher simply add an Activities widget and select MirrorShare from the activities list. This will create a shortcut on your desktop.
If you want to launch with Tasker send an intent with the following:
ACTION: android.intent.action.VIEW
PACKAGE: com.huawei.android.mirrorshare
CLASS: com.huawei.android.airsharing.player.DeviceListActivity
If anyone would rather just have an apk to do this hit thanks and leave a comment, I'll compile my task into an app and post it here. Cheers!
[EDIT]
MirrorShare is in the regular settings menu. Doesn't want to connect for me though it could be my TV.
I was asking about smartlock. Mirrorshare is working in my case with no problems

Also mine seems to be limited to Bluetooth conditions only, you may need Bluetooth turned on and paired with something to activate it. If anyone has the old area based Smart Unlock from nougat working I'd love to know. I've built my own version of locale based Smart Unlock in Tasker and it works great. I can dig out my tutorial if you're interested in going down that rabbit hole. I have downloadable links to the tasks/profiles so all the hard work is done. But it does require Tasker and either a little knowledge or willingness to learn.
That would be perfect

Here's the link. I've got a few projects in that thread and the smart unlock is the one linked. Simple download the project file and import it into Tasker. It works better than regular Smart Unlock imo just make sure to
replace the placeholder with your SSID. If you have any questions please post to that thread and I'll answer promptly!

Hm, looks like you're correct. Huawei is odd...
experienced the same issue, after a few days from when I started using the mobile phone, and the only way to get rid of it was to enter in trusted agents, disable Smart Lock, reboot the device, enter in Trusted agents and turn Smart Lock On again. The Smart Lock issue is reported on official google Forum since more than a year on different models (Search for "SOLVED: Smart Lock options missing " on Google Help Forum). As only TEMPORARY solution is reported the trick on Trusted Agents I reported. As I mention it is indicated as temporary solution, since many users experienced this problem again after some time. It is unknown whether someone of the Android Dev Team is working on a fix, or ever heard about it.
