Hey guys,
My USB tethering has stopped working, and only one of 3 USB actually even detects a USB connection... Any ideas why? for your info :
- It used to work fine on all ports
- I tested on both ubuntu and windows (without and without drivers)
- I tested with and without USB debugging enabled
- Mass Storage doesn't come up either, it literally does not detect anything connected to those USB ports. However, it still charges the phone.
But then, if I connect the phone to the third USB port, all is detected, but USB tethering still doesn't work? It fails to connect. Once again, I tried :
- windows and ubuntu
- with and without USB debugging
- Mass Storage does actually work.
Presumably something is wrong with my laptop USB ports, but this is weird, they work for all other peripherals... Any ideas?
Thanks !

Mines exactly the same, only works consistently out of the mobo ports (rear ones).

Dont use usb hubs or cable extensions, use main ports as rear ports, uninstall kies or old drivers then install the new standalone driver from dr.ketan thread, try another pc

Well, I had the opportunity to try another PC, and everything worked fine. I guess my laptop just has very poor USB connections... And this is without extensions or hubs of any kind !
Thanks all for the suggestions.

i'm having a problem with the usb of this device its a sprint galaxy tab i brought it used. under menu / settings / wireless and network i dont see an options for usb and when i plug in the usb cord to the computer theres a red x on the battery, windows doesnt even prompt me to install drivers i'm lost on what to do next
Try to use a different usb cord. . . By the way. . . What rom are you using in your tab? Because it seems that BOCA ROM doesnt have usb setting
i'm using the stock sprint rom and the usb cord is brand new i brought it from the t-mobile store yesterday
also what would the cord have to do with no usb options showing up under wireless and networking
Use a different usb port, and try a different pc.
Under setting>>wireless & network>>usb setting which do you choose? This option is important as your usb cord function depend on the selection of usb option. If you choose kies samsung, make sure you have the software install on your PC. If mass storage, make sure your have SD card inside and its not corrupted.
The battery with the x red cross i think is normal each time you connect it to PC. If you connect it to AC plug, then the x cross will not show.

Ok there is a similar post on this. Plug tablet in and charge it. While tablet is charging unplug your pc and then reboot it up to reset the usb ports. take your tablet and connect usb cable to pc. Ensure you have the samsung usb drivers loaded. Put your tablet in download mode and using odin try reflashing. You can try this if you don't have a second pc.

I'm on 4.2.2 slimbean ROM and my USB mass storage is no longer working. When I connect my phone to my laptop using the USB cable the phone charges without a problem. But then when I try to 'Turn on USB storage' the circular loading icon just continuously spins. How do I get it working?
Thanks

use this guide, look at Cleaning and looseness more closely than others.
Check this out! You , YES! you are an " Android ". Not your phone but U.
Have you enabled mass storage in your device setting?
anyone else have this issue? when i plug in my phone to a usb 3.0 port it says this device can perform faster if connected to a super speed usb 3.0 port, when it already is. tried a different cable, and tried updating my usb 3.0 drivers...faulty port on the phone maybe?
usb 2.0 works fine...can still transfer files and charge no problem.

are you using the usb 3.0 cable that came with the device? if not thats probably why
The default USB Computer Connection setting (when connected to your computer) is to use either Media Device (MTP) or Camera (PTP) in USB 2.0 mode. You have to manually change it to Media Device (USB 3.0). I noted that after 10 minutes of inactivity my phone reverted back to Media Device as a USB 2.0 connection.

How do it change this to USB 3.0 Mode?
The option isn't there for me in the drop down menu? Yet it still says the device can transfer faster if connected to USB 3.0. help please!
I bought the Tronsmart Data Cables USB-C to USB-A knowing the cable that came with the box was only a charging cable. But still my computer won't recognize my Mi 5 64Gb. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have also installed the MI PC Suite. Still failing.

MiSuite is useless for now, as this thing doesn't support Android 6.
Just connect the phone with a cable to the Computer. I use the Xiaomi Mi4c cable, the original mi 5 is still in the box but both work to transfer data!
All you have to do is:
-Connect the phone to the pc with Usb C to A
-Change the connection mode from "Use USB for Charging only" to "Use USB for Transfer files (MTP)"
Uh and could you please explain the difference between a USB C to USB A charging cable and a USB C to USB A data-transfer cable? The more details you add the better. I am specially curious about the wires inside of the cable, like the difference between a charging and data cable, by the means of wire connection. (I have never heard of such a thing.)
I have tried doing that but it seems Windows is not installing the drivers for Mi 5 thus getting a "device could not be recognized.
Working great now. Had to change USB ports and used the ones at the rear of my desktop. Thanks!

mine has the same problem with you..
when connected Mi 5 to PC, Mi 5 is not displaying "Charging Only" or "MTP" Option. My PC (Win 7) says "Device is not Recognized".
I've tried uninstalling Mi PC Suite and another ADB program, and changing usb port, the problem is stills..
How do you fix it?
I had the same problem. But changing to a different USB-port on my computer solved it. Check if you have any native USB3 ports on your mobo.
I had the same issue on my Win8 computer (usb2 plugs only) . But it connected perfect on my wife's win7 computer (usb3 plugs)
I finished getting it connected by validating USB debug and waiting very long for driver installation.
USB3 versus USB2 , why not.
Its Not USB2 vs USB3 as I am getting it connected on my Laptop with only USB2 ports but Can't connect on my PC with USB2/USB3 ports while my S7 connects perfectly. I dunno why this is happening and still seeking solution. PTP mode and USB tethering mode works fine though. Just MTP mode connection gets the Yellow triangle and device listing under other devices in my windows device manager.
Install the software driver of the pc and connect as mtp
Dont work anything
I change it to MTP but it comes back by itself to charging mode wtf
Go to device manager after connecting usb to phone
In portable devices, you will find your device along with a caution sign
Double click on your device
Go to driver tab
Then click on update driver
Then click on "Browse my computer..."
Then click on "Let me pick..."
Select MTP USB Device
Install this driver and then your phone will be detected by your computer
(1) Go to C:\Windows\INF
(2) Type "wpdmtp.inf" in search bar provided to the right of the address bar in Windows 10.
(3) Once you found it, just right click on it and select install. It will take a very few seconds.
(4) Connect your device to the pc.
ONE SIMPLE SOLUTION TO CONNECT REDMI Y3 TO PC WINDOWS 10
This worked for me. You can also try.
First connect your YOUR REDMI Y3 ANDROID PHONE to the PC with the USB POWER CABLE provided with REDMI Y3 phone
Now on your ANDROID PHONE
Go to>SETTINGS
Go to>ABOUT PHONE
Tap MIUI VERSION Twice or Thrice>You will be recognized as a Developer
Now go back to SETTINGS
Select>ADDITIONAL SETTINGS
Select>DEVELOPER OPTIONS
Scroll down to locate DEFAULT USB CONFIGURATION and select it
Now Select>FILE TRANSFER
Now check your PC
Your REDMI Y3 will be RECOGNISED
The problem just started.
What works:
1. Low speed charging
2. Access to OTG memory card
Not Working:
1. Connecting to PC. Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) The PC has the correct LG driver.
2. Fast Charging
3. Android Auto USB mode. Phone won't negotiate with the car.
I have cleaned the USB port with electronic cleaner and sand paper. It made no difference. The port wasn't dirty to start with. I have not done factory reset since the problem looks more likely to be hardware.
Any suggestion?

Not the cord. Already tried several. The cords work fine in fast-charge mode and Android auto with other phones.

So, has this device connected to the mentioned PC before? If so, and nothing has changed (like driver update etc), then, sorry to say, but it absolutely sounds like the usb port is an issue.
Even if out of warranty, I'd plead my case to LG. That shouldn't happen. Has it gotten wet? Is any part loose in there?
good luck
I also have a USB problem, but mine keeps asking what I want to use the USB connection for i.e. charging, power supply, file transfer, photo transfer or MIDI device. And the wireless charging doesn't work either.

I got the same problem, I tried to work around the USB port and it fixed itself. Probably got some dust in the port. Try to tug the cable a bit and reconnect. Or you can try different cable.
