Just picked up my Nexus 7 from GameStop. As with a previous thread from Google IO I am noticing some terrible screen flickering at lower brightness (low brightness or automatic). It tends to remind me of the dynamic contrast of tvs, except much more noticeable.
I am not just seeing it in Chrome as the others have said, I see it also when watching video on YouTube or the Google video store. I have also noticed it when just viewing a magazine. At medium brightness the issue is much better, but still happens occasionally. Tends to happen more when there is motion on screen. Any other users noticing this with retail version? Does it sound more like a hardware or software issue?

I'd agree with that; likely a Tegra driver issue. The One X had the same sort of flickering issues at launch which are gradually being resolved by software updates, and I'm sure I remember people saying similar things around the Transformer launch (also resolved by a subsequent update). I'd expect this to be sorted in the same way.
can more people verify this?
to OP, does yours come with JB 4.1 or 4.1.1?

It had 4.1 but the OTA to 4.1.1 came up within ten minutes so I updated to that right away.
I didn't notice any issues beforehand but by the time the update was ready all I had done was rearrange the home page.
I haven't noticed anything and my brightness is pretty low. Then again, I did update to 4.1.1 pretty quickly, so it might have fixed it.
Fine here
No Flicker here. Picked up from Gamestop. Updated to 4.1.1
I picked mine up from Sams Club and has the flicker issue in low brightness settings.

Ditto but mine doesn't have it, but at least I can't make it do it. My tf300 had it pretty bad though.

Here is the challenge
Aug 4, 2011 2:22 PM
Challenge to Motorola.
This question is Not Answered.(Mark as assumed answered)
In one of my threads I mentioned that I have had 31 replacement devices since December of 2007. In that thread someone had said something to the affect of "too bad you didn't join then....we would have loved to help you"....well....here's your chance.
I have a challenge, or 2, for you. I am sure you will pass on the second, but I hope not....you choose.
I have two Droid 3's in my possession right now with a 3rd on it's way. Both of these have issues. This "challenge" has a time frame of 10 days. That is how long I have these until Verizon is going to expect them to be returned. Again....10 days...
Here are your options....
Option 1- You troubleshoot these devices as much as you like. I will follow ALL directions given and report results.
Option 2 (my preferrence)- You send these 2 specific devices an OTA to unlock the boot loaders (like you said you were going to do anyway) and provide me with the "necessary files" (who's name I cannot mention) and let's see if the development community can fix them first.
So...what's up? Can you support YOUR phone with YOUR settings? Better yet...can you support YOUR phone better than we can?
Let me know and I will post up the problems that they are having to begin.
Phone 1
Ever since the device arrived it consistantly puts itself into airplane mode. I have performed 2 factory resets but the issue persists
Phone 2
Blue haze to almost any picture taken.
Green artifacts during screen transitions after watching any video that is longer than 1 minute in length. Reboot fixes until another video is watched. This is with videos from Youtube, Netflix, or even video taken on the phone.
Lockscreen sliders do not appear. Ever since I enabled the lockscreen pattern the first time. What happens is if I have the pattern enabled it shows the sliders...then pattern. If I disable lockscreen pattern it just bypasses the sliders. Does this after reboots, screen off then back on....screen wakes and goes straight into the homescreen bypassing the sliders.
I can take video and post on youtube of the sliders
I can post pics of comparison from stock camera app and 3rd party. to fix put 3rd party white balance to florescent
Request anything else you wish.

Yes, indeed. and much more noise on low light environment .
Honestly everything you linked are of totally different scenes taken at different points of the day it's very hard to do a comparison.

Yes, I confirm. Detailing has become better at night, but at other time...
I'm at 4.2.2 and have taken about 100 pics. I can't decide if they are better or worse. Outside pics seems to be even darker and in pics with both dark and light scenes there seems to be even more difficulties to choose the right spot to focus on, they tend to be either to dark or light.
I'll listening in in this thread before deciding this month Android version
Skickat från min HTC One via Tapatalk 2
I am also unsure. Have the impression that the 4.2.2. cause a lack of details in the pictures and I have problems with focus in the dark.
Gesendet von meinem A510 mit Tapatalk 2
After viewing the samples, I got an impression that pictures are noticeably brighter on 4.2.2.
At the moment I'm glad that I was patient and didn't throw myself into updating.
Better to wait.
Maybe ROM 2.17... will have a different version radioROM (HBOOT) than 1.29.....???
You guys are crazy. They've turned down the crazy over sharpening over contrasting algorithm in the new update. Shots are so much more lifelike and less noisy.
Some seem like they have less 'pop', but they are much more accurate and realistic.

has anyone in here called HTC because of the faulty camera module and got its mobile phone exchanged to a new one with better camera quality?

I did, but I think it was for a different problem than what the OP si experiencing (I think). I had a problem with blue/red/purple noise in low light scenes. Took the phone into service and got a replacement. Here is the problem I had (and others as well) along with before and after photos:

The smooth back matte panel can easily get damaged, a case is a good idea on this phone, but the most annoying flaw, and I'm guessing its hardware since the GNEX had the same issue and it did not get fixed with software updates. Compared to the N4 is quite noticable.

Am I reading this right? You were expecting the easily damaged back panel of the GNex to get fixed with a software update?

I preordered the Moto X the day it was available. I got mine this past Monday. Anyway to get to the point; the rear facing camera will not focus on anything any further than about 10 inches away. Is any one else having this issue? I also am having issues with the front facing camera lagging horribly regardless of lighting conditions. If I can't get this resolved I'll do a swap out with the local AT&T shop, or go back to my old Moto X (2013).
The Lagging is a known issue. The 2013 also has issues focusing on things closer than 5-7 inches or so away.
I'm not having those issues with my Pure edition. The front facing camera seems normal to any smart phone I've ever used. Are you using the drag and slide focus in the stock app? I'd try the google camera from the play store to see if that helps any. I was able to use the stock moto camera app to focus in on a car about 20 ft. away with no problem.

I think you misunderstood. My camera will only focus on things that are less than 10 inches away. I essentially can't take a picture of anything unless I'm close to it.
That's the opposite of anything I've seen. That's odd.
Here's an example. Also, even while in video mode it won't focus. This happens regardless of which camera app I use.

Are you still having camera issues with your Moto x 2nd gen. Cause I got mine 2 days ago and it is doing the same thing. I've tried born he Google camera and the Moto camera. Same issues. Can't focus on anything further than 10inchs.
Try the google camera, just for ****s and giggles. I wonder if its a hardware thing or an app thing
If u guys are rooted theres a modded Moto X camera floating around these forums. It has advanced features. Try to find it and check it out. Im not rooted since I have the VZW version or else I would be using it.
I've tried both the Google and Moto camera. They both do the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware thing. I just don't want to return my phone and get another one with the same problem.
Thanks for the input guys.
Hey guy, so I went back to be at but to get return my phone. Found out some interesting things about the one I had.
First thing was that the camera was defective that was a given.
Second thing was the reason it was defective was cause the Moto M symbol on the back was loose I found out that was what caused the issue.
So if your camera is not focusing on anything further than 5" away and your Moto symbol is loose. I would suggest that you return it for a new Moto x. My new one works great it has none of those above issues and I'm even happier the phone now than I was before. It's so fast and very very smooth. Thanks again for your time guys.
Hello there!
I would like to ask if there's something wrong with my amoled screen. I bought my Oneplus 3t 4 days ago. I would like to ask if its normal to have screen like that. So, half of my screen (down part) is quite red or pink and it feels like quite darker than the up side of the screen (if you're testing it on white or grey background). It's quite annoying when u are surfing net on chrome... I tested another amoled on My girlfriend's SGS6 edge and the screen is totally the same (there are NO any darker or pinker sides). Do you have anything like that? Or there is something wrong with my amoled? Would like to know your opinion. I would be appreciated if you could send some photos like i did so we can compare.
Thanks in advance!

Yes definitely return it, You shouldn't have to deal with a bad display when you paid 439/479eur, ask for replacement or return it and buy again, problem is with all the returns / replacements you always have to wait weeks.
Guess its better to wait weeks than struggle all the time and be unhappy with the new device . Thanks to all one more time!
It's an AMOLED quality problem. It took me 3returns of my 6P until I got a screen that was uniform without green or pink tints. Luckily, my OP3T was uniform the first time.
