so i tried this;http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23788913&postcount=170 and everything works fine until i have to wipe data/factory reset i can do that i enter in that option and the only answer i can select is no
the same with superuser
You have to scroll it down. there is one option YES, but it's "below" screen..
If you are seeing clock work mod screen and a Number of no one upon other in many lines then swipe up your finger on screen because it's a touch recovery mod then you will are the yes option.
But after flashing with smart flash tool you have to just reboot.
You can flash a rom with already
Included Super user just google or search xda .
Also snegovik which you have tried has described a best tutorial with pic and it's a very good tutorial
A child can also do this I request you to read and retry please.
Also describe your problem clear
I have made a meaning of your question my way and replied.
But I am not clear what you face.

Ok and now what should i do to install zeus, can i do that?
You can always install whichever rom you want. Just don't forget about wipes in CWM.
In Zeus thread, there are instructions in first post... It's easy. Zeus rom & updates are always as cwm zip, so you already know how to do this.

Download Zeus read Zeus Tom pages by huexx
You will need 6.3 zip and latest 6.36 zip
You can choose version based on v20n or v20o
All instructions are given in his thread
Copy 6.3 zip and 6.36 zip to root of your SD card as you can not browse folders in depth in clock work mod recovery
If you don't know what is copying in root of SD card Google it its simple
now reboot your phone in ce recovery mod
Choose wipe data factory reset
Then chhose wipe catch
Then wipe dalvik catch by going in advance mod
Then return by go back button
Choose install zip from SD card
Choose 6.3
Flash by touching selecting yes
Then after finish of flashing reboot
Wait for some time after complete boot to stable the system
The same way flash I mean install 6.36 update
That's all
Pl ask if any difficulty

Sorry about making a new post under this forum, but i didnt have permission to reply in the dev forum.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
noticed the LG screwed up - bad - here's why your UI is jerky! link, and decided to give it a try.
Code:
cat /system/build.prop | grep build
shows:
ro.build.lge.version.release=LGP990-V10b
ro.build.date=2011. 03. 15. (í) 14:14:22 KST
ro.build.date.utc=1300166062
So i go for the V10b (date 1300166062) linked on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1023354
did a nanodroid backup and tried to install the rom(zipfile) with clockworkmod from my SDcard.
Select the "Wipe Dalvik Cache" but leave the others unchecked.
Phone reboots and enter CLockwork recovery and attempts to install but it fails at the beginning of the installation and reboots the phone before I get time to read the error message.
What am I doing wrong?
I didnt wipe cache over V10B and it worked smooth. But i am on V10C now which is much better!

upgrading to v10c, does that require any wipe, or can you just write it over your current version. Also, do you have a link to the package?
edit> found it here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041
I upgraded via Lg updater. I cant give you links and yes just apply over it.

Sounds like you use ROM Manager to boot into recovery?
Try booting to recovery manually by holding Power+Vol- while booting (until you see the yellowish A N D R O I D letters) and go from there.
If I remember right CWM Recovery and ROM Manager swap the internal and external SD card around or fails to mount the latter when booting directly to recovery from ROM Manager.
I own a captivate phone but didn't bother to buy an external SD card and am cheap so I didn't bother to buy one since I'm happy with the amount of internal storage. The thing is I wasn't happy with the out of the box performance of the phone or lack of customization available. So I began to look for my options of flashing ROMs.
I searched and googled myself tired with no luck on how to do this WITHOUT an SD card, so I gave up and vaguely followed most of the wiki's I did find. I'll give you a breif overview of my process which I have been able to successfully flash Cyanogenmod 7RC1 without trouble, (I suspect you can do the same with other ROMs too)
Things you need
Root (superoneclick)
If you're running stock 2.2 3e signature failure fix script + update.zip(found it here in XDA)
Clockwork ROMmanager
Phone.
Process
Open Clockwork > Flash Clock Recover using Captivate MTD(Yes to the popups) > Download ROM(I picked Cyanogen 7 RC1 + Gapps.
DO NOT ATTEMPT INSTALL YET
Cancel out of the popup that appears after the ROM is done downloading.
Back to Clock choose >Install ROM from SD Card and find and select the .zip file the default location is clockworkmod/download/download.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-Captivate.zip
After you choose that leave the default settings, and your phone should reboot into Recover mode with the green text indicating you're in Clockwork.
Once you're in Clockwork choose > Install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > find your update-cm-7blahblahblah.zip file. The next step your phone will begin the flashing process.
On your next reboot you'll notice a new boot screen indicating it's flashed to your choosen ROM. On your first boot open Clockwork again and choose to install ROM from sdcard again. This time find your gapps.zip file and go thru the same process to install your gapps.
Finally...
you're done.
Sorry for the poor formatting but I hope you can follow this and maybe it will help somebody else as cheap as me..
Yeah, that's how you flash any Rom. And you can flash gapps before your first reboot.
Don't know why you thought you needed an sd card to flash roms on this phone

Hello,
I'm not gonna panic, as I think Ive not bricked my phone YET.
Here is what I have done, I have a GALAXY S I9000.
Have been using it for quite some time now. 2 years ago, I have flashed it with - hardcore's kernel with the ClockworkMod Recovery - using Odin.
Today I decided to give Cyanogenmod a go, followed the steps here. - http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide
Since I have the hardoce's kernel, I skipped this Installing the ClockworkMod Recovery - and moved on to - Flashing CyanogenMod.
I will go step by step from here.
Download the latest version of CyanogenMod.
Optional: Download the Google Apps for the device.
Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the internal memory.
Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the internal memory also.
Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
done these, no problem so far.
[*]Select Choose zip from sdcard.
when I chose this, phone rebooted, it was so fast something may have come up and I didnt see.
Now I am stuck in a boot loop:
- Galaxy S I9000 samsung screen comes up, goes away for a second, comes up again.
- A page with code appearing from the bottom comes up really fast ( logo in the middle changes quickly) then it disappears.
- whole thing starts again.
UPDATE: I got a picture of the fast screen that comes up. : http://localhostr.com/files/b5NzFRy/2012-08-27 05.07.32.jpg
Some observations.
- I can go into download mode when opening it with the key combo.
- loop only stops when I unplug the battery
I need advice on what caused this and how to fix this, please help me.

are you not able to get into recovery? If only download than you need to get back to GB and than do a progressive update from GB to ICS to JB
Flash it again. From what I've heard, it only flashes the kernel the first time.
I had the same problem today with CM7 today. Just reboot in recovery and flash again cm zip, form there on everything is gonna run smooth!

Boot into recovery
Do a full wipe (data/factory,cache, dalvik)
Install zip from sdcard
Choose zip from sdcard
Select the ROM
You will get boot loop
Again boot into recovery
Install the same zip file one more time
Install google app
Do a full wipe again (data/factory,cache,dalvik)
Reboot your phone

Hi,
I had the same pb coming from a GB
I think this pb is very common
1) DON'T WORRY !
2) Unplug the battery when bootlooping
3) Put the SGS in Recovery Mode (the CWM's version has changed)
4) Select the CM .zip and flash it AGAIN
5) When it's done, reboot system
This time, everything shoot be OK
Just be carefull with your IMEI (always have a backup of EFS folder !)

Same here, after the Samsung and CM logos, and splash animation, it says :
"Encryption unsuccessful.
Encryption was interrupted and can't complete. As a result, the data on your phone is no longer accessible.
To resume using your phone, you must perform a factory reset...."
After I tap Reset phone, it goes to CWM recovery.
Do the factory reset and the same thing occured in loop.
I came from JVU and CF root.

Hi guys! I believe most of you obtained root via this method by Jiangyi: [TUTORIAL] Root access for ICS on I9100G which requires a temporary CWM. Quite a few users face problems because in temporary CWM, internal storage is swapped with external storage, i.e. sdcard=internal storage, internal sdcard=external storage. It may be confusing for newbies, especially on their first attempt on rooting. Therefore, I decided to release an easier method, where you can flash the zip files directly via stock 3e recovery!
Requirements:
- Running a stock ICS/JB ROM
- External sdcard
Features:
- SuperSU v0.99 by Chainfire
- Busybox v1.20.2 by Stericson
- No yellow traingle
- No increase in binary counter
Instructions (Root):
1. Download SU-BB-Installer.zip from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390233485161005747
2. Place it in your external sdcard.
3. Power off your device COMPLETELY.
4. Boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume up + Home + Power buttons simultaneously.
5. Navigate to "apply update from external storage" using the volume buttons.
6. Select it by pressing the Power button.
7. Select SU-BB-Installer.zip.
8. Wait for it to finish and navigate up (select "../").
9. Select "reboot system now".
10. Congratulations, you now have root and busybox!
Optional: (For ICS only)
To obtain CWM recovery in order to start flashing ROMs or mods, read on:
1. Download kTool from Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool
2. For ICS: Download the CWM recovery kernel by codeworkx from here: [KERNEL][GT-I9100G] ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.2
3. Extract the .tar file and you will get a file named zImage.
4. Place the zImage in the root of your internal storage.
5. Launch kTool and select "Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage".
6. Reboot and profit! If you boot into recovery by Volume Up + Home + Power buttons, you will now see CWM recovery.
Optional: (For JB only)
To obtain CWM recovery in order to start flashing ROMs or mods, read on:
1. Download one of the stock recovery flashable zips of Blazing Safe Kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293576
7. Select the zip.
8. Wait for it to finish and navigate up (select "../").
9. Select "reboot system now".
6. Reboot and profit! If you boot into recovery by Volume Up + Home + Power buttons, you will now see CWM recovery.
Instructions (Unroot):
1. Download SU-BB-Unstaller.zip from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390233485161005748
7. Select SU-BB-Unstaller.zip.
8. Wait for it to finish and navigate up (select "../").
9. Select "reboot system now".
10. You are now unrooted.
**NOTE: In order to use this method to unroot, you MUST use my method to root before this.
Optional (remove CWM recovery)(For ICS only):
This is the tricky part, the easiest way is to reflash a whole firmware via ODIN. But if you like new methods, try this:
1. DO NOT uninstall kTool or unroot your phone first!
2. Obtain a stock zImage (either you download it or extract it from a firmware package), make sure that it is meant for the firmware you are using.
3. Place the zImage in the root of your internal storage.
4. Launch kTool and select "Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage".
5. Reboot and if you boot into recovery by Volume Up + Home + Power buttons, you will now see the default stock 3e recovery.
6. Now you can unroot your device.
Optional (remove CWM recovery)(For JB only):
1. Download stock_XXLSR_kernel.zip from here: http://bit.ly/XCEejd and place it into your external sdcard/internal sdcard.
3. Power off your device COMPLETELY.
4. Boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume up + Home + Power buttons simultaneously.
5. Navigate to "Install zip from sdcard" using the volume buttons.
6. Select it by pressing the Power button.
7. Select "Install zip from sdcard" if you placed it in the external sdcard, or select "Install zip from internal storage" if you placed it in the internal sdcard.
8. Navigate and select stock_XXLSR_kernel.zip.
9. Wait for it to finish.
10. Select "reboot system now".
11. CWM recovery is now replaced by stock 3e recovery, and back to stock kernel too.
That's all from me. Happy rooting!

Keep in mind that you need an EXTERNAL SDCARD for this...Or you are already using one, you will have to wait a while in recovery if that happens...it takes some time...if not, reinsert your sdcard...
This is going to be a bit of a noob question, but I'm new to samsungs, I swear that rooting is very different on everything else.
Is this the best way to flash a new aosp rom? The phone is not ICS at the moment, so I was going to flash stock ICS, follow this tutorial to root, and then install some jb rom like rootbox. Or can I just do temporary CWM and flash the root box on there and keep cwm?

No, JB ROMs require ICS bootloader...so the best way is to flash a stock ICS ROM, root it and get a kernel with CWM, then only flash the new ROM...

This is going to be a bit of a noob question, but I'm new to samsungs, I swear that rooting is very different on everything else.

Hmm...weird then...it works for most of us...then you'd have to try the method by Jiangyi on another thread...maybe Sammy changed some stuff...:\

he changed the update script. the official cm flashable zip checks for the codename "p880". since its not the correct codename for our phone ("x3" is correct) and all our recoveries use that codename "x3" its not flashable. what he did is changing "p880" to "x3" in the update script (in the first line) or he completely removed that check
Wasn't easier to just use the official CWM from the CM team? Unless you use twrp ofcourse

i've tried to flash CM and followed instructions in this order:
1. Place cm-10.1-20130416-NIGHTLY-p880.zip and gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip in to your internal sdcard
2. BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA with CWM Recovery
3. In CWM Recovery make wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, format system
4. Flashcm-10.1-20130416-NIGHTLY-p880.zip from sdcard
But i've got an error status 7 . Now my phone wont boot, and i can't copy this fixed zip file. What can i do?

Restore the backup you made in step 2, install newest official CWM via ROM Manager (download it from play store if you don't already have it) then boot back into CWM and install CM again.

Also I honestly don't see any real benefit to this thread when installing official CWM solves the status 7 issue and allows for OTA updating of CM instead of having to wait for the OP of this thread to upload a fix every single day...
argh

I was afraid you were gonna say that! You can still boot into CWM though right? If you can, and your computer has an SD slot, just take out your external SD card and put it into an adapter and put the fixed version from this thread on that, then you can just install it from the external SD in CWM.

from CWM you can install via sideload ...
or harder way- reflash stock, root it, download rom manager, install newest cwm via it, copy files, flash in recovery
won't work
