I'm using flipz latest fresh toast rom, and i'm thinking of switching to using launcherpro but i can't figure some things out
At the bottom, the messaging button always goes to the stock messaging app
I did some research and everybody says it goes to whatever you have set as your default
So i went to manage apps and cleared out the data for the messaging app and then set default messenger to chomp through the people contacts
but the messaging button on launcherpro still goes to the stock messenger app
I have dolphin set as my default browser and that works just can't get frigen chomp to open
anyone know how to get this to work correctly?
If you remove Mms.apk, it'll default to your other SMS app.
However, I don't think that should do the trick. I always push the AOSP Mms.apk and then after I do that, launcherpro beta asks me which app should be default. I have a theory that if you rm your Mms.apk (after pulling it to back it up) and repush it, it should reset and then ask you which you want to set as default. I'm on Darchroid, so I can't test this theory myself, and no one in the other thread seemed to want to... So, give it a shot.
I have been told the Mms.apk is required by other programs, so removing it would be a bad idea. I too set the default messaging app to handcent and it is still going to the stock app. The LauncherPro dev said that he plans to make the bottom more customizable in his next release, which he plans to finish in about 2 weeks. I did find out that LauncherPro is not installed as a system app, so I suggest installing the update that came out 2 days ago using the market. It added 2 settings, rotate and home goes to the default page, so it acts like sense.

Like I said, I agree that removing Mms.apk is a bad idea.
What I'm saying, because it HAS worked for me every time, is pushing either the AOSP Mms.apk to your phone (it's faster, nicer, and does everything the stock one does - better!) and it WILL ask which SMS app you want to use as your default (I've done it so many times it's silly, and it works every single time) OR (this is the one I HAVE NOT tested that I'm asking someone to test) is removing the HTC stock Mms.apk and the repushing it. I can even provide both the .apks if need be.
I cant get anything on the bottom row to default to anything not handcent or opera mini
This is from the LauncherPro website:
That’s it for now. I think I came up with a pretty nice way to handle the shortcut dock customization. If there are no big bugs in the current release I should be able to start working on it tomorrow, though it probably won’t be ready until next week (going to New Zealand for the weekend).

LauncherPro seems to ignore defaults and it just opens the stock apps. I am looking forward to being able to customize the shortcut dock. The LauncherPro dev seems to work at a fairly fast pace, so I expect good things to be coming soon.
Guys,
I have recently started to have an issue with pulling the Notification Bar down.
Occasionally (and for no apparent reason) when I attempt to pull down the window it opens just a fraction with only the bottom grey part of the window showing.
No matter what I do I can not get it to open fully. The only course of action is to reboot the phone which then clears the problem.
Any ideas what is going on here?
I have also noticed this behaviour and wondered about it

Hello,
I get that as well from time to time. Only way to display the bar is to go in the main screen, press the menu button and sellect 'Notifications'.
Hope it will be fixed soon as it is really anoying bug.

Thanks for the tip... Forgot all about the Menu/Notification. I'll try it the next time it happens.
I have the same problem. I cannot, or only partially, pull down the notification bar. Menu -> notifications still works. It started 2 dags ago after i used Samsung's own RAM manager to clear level1 and level2 memory. First time I ever used this feature, and will also be the last. A reboot does not solve my issues.
Is there a way to clear notification bar cache, or the notification bar settings? This information must be stored somewhere, similar to that of other apps?
/edit
Yes, I also use launcher Pro.
On another note, after removing the battery when the phone was still on (so no proper shutdown) the problem disappeared.
hi,
could it be you guys are using launcher or launcher pro? I had the very same behaviour and installed adw launcher, wanted to compare those two anyway ... since I had installed adw launcher and used it the problem vanished ... so I assume its a problem of launcher pro ...

Ohh, give it time... If the little blighter has already been seen to happen there's a fair chance it will pop back up again right bang when you don't expect it.
I went well over a week without it myself then all of a sudden up it popped.

You mean you had the phone connected to a charger, otherwise it would simply reboot.
Only got to experience this once after 2.2 update. No apparent in 2.1. Here are my other observations. It does not pull down on portrait, but does on landscape. I am also using Launcher Pro, not sure if same thing happens if I am on TwLauncher. I installed z4mod lag fix thinking this has something to do with Samsung's programming. Haven't encountered it since. I would die if I would. LOL.
I just noticed that even after the z4mod lag fix, my Galaxy S is still not top notch in snappiness--lags from time to time, but way worst before the lag fix, phone was bordering useless due to how many times it froze. Kinda of irritating seeing that my X10, a much cheaper and technologically lesser phone, does not have this problem. I hope Samsung gets their act together as this phone has so much potential.
I have the same issue but I am on stock froyo, no lag fix or root. looks like a bug

I had the same problem with my galaxy s untill i uninstalled the Juicedefender app. Now it works great with no problem whatsoever (i use laucher pro).
I encounter the same issue once in a while, on stock froyo official update. Using launcher pro and zeam. Read somewhere that some apps that appear on the notification bar may cause the issue, so I've uninstalled them. Mines sticks whether in portrait or landscape format, and I believe after a notification appears. Shutting off and turning on doesn't always help but the problem usually goes away after a few days.

Don't forget hitting Menu and selecting Notifications will bring the Notification window down.
Let me preface this by saying I am a paying customer of the chameleon home screen and when I get home this evening I will be contacting the developer to see if I can obtain an apk to try and install on the fire HD.
I was mainly curious if someone else has tried this home screen / launcher replacement on the fire. The app itself I love, and it's getting better with additional widgets being added and also an api for other developers.
If I am able to get an apk to try and install, would I go about doing what most others have done with other launchers?
Set proper permissions for the apk
Move apk into system/app and reboot?
If it's more complicated than that, I'm going to give Nova a try using one of the other threads since I'm fairly novice with this stuff. I am however rooted.
Thanks!

I tried it, and it is easy to get working, just like you said, move, change permissions, and I did not need to reboot. After it was in system/app and proper permissions were set, I pressed the home button and I was prompted to pick which launcher to use.
I thought Chamelon looked good in it's adverts, but I was unable to get the widgets to look the way I wanted. I also had a problem with the weather widget. No location was found (even using wifi) and when I selected by zipcode it found my city but would not get the weather information.
I am sure it's user error, but I removed it and gave up for something else.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't had a chance to try Chameleon yet, but still want to do so, hopefully this weekend. I did try Nova launcher and it just force closes any time I try to select it, but I am getting the choice between stock and Nova. Chameleon certainly has it's work ahead for it, but it's promising imo as long as more developers take to it to make some great widgets.
ADW Launcher EX (paid version) works fine.
GO launcher EX works fine also in the system/apps folder.
So...took the plunge and got a Nexus 6. Seems like a great phone.
Got it home, grabbed the OTAs, unlocked the bootloader and rooted using CF's root .bat (found in the all in one post).
Now I'm having issues and I can't see where they're coming from.
Started, I think, after I added email accounts to the gmail app. I will be using the phone and it will soft reboot (boot animation, but thankfully I have renamed that awful AT&T boot animation, then lock screen).
Installed the latest TWRP and cleared the cache, following another post's recommendation, but that hasn't helped.
Aside from returning to stock and exchanging the phone (which I very well may do, but I'll go to a busier store to do it) does anyone have any ideas? I'm completely stock, using Nova Prime aside from the recovery and rooting (still encrypted).
Box says this is 2014-12-21 manufacture date, green dot on the box.

Take a nandroid backup in TWRP then do a "factory reset" (just a standard one, not one that does all the partitions) and run it with no apps or extra settings set. See if it still does it.
Wish it wouldn't auto-download those AT&T apps, but I will give that a try. Updating the Play Store apps now. I skipped the backup, mostly because I haven't done enough on the phone to need it (set up Nova Prime and my email, then had the issues and I went to bed).

I have not done anything with the kernel at all.
Apps that I had installed when issues started (or rather when I noticed them):
Facebook
Facebook Messenger (I'm not sure, but this one may have been the last one installed before the issues started; I don't remember a reboot prior to installing this)
Nova Launcher / Nova Prime
Widget Locker (wanted a separate lockscreen wallpaper, but there may be a better way to do this)
Weather Underground (the last in a series of weather apps)
Tesla Unread Plugin (which I wish worked with things like Handcent or Textra, though it may...I haven't tested)
Root Explorer
That's it.
I saw some people pointing to the stock SMS and or Hangouts apps and disabled both, but to no avail.
So far after the factory reset, everything seems ok. I'm not sure if one of the above mentioned apps is the cause of the issues, though.

The FB app is very buggy , its best to FaceBook within a browser rather then using the app.

That's unfortunate...
Side note, after performing the factory reset within TWRP it seems to be working ok now. Haven't had a reboot (also haven't used it much).
Going to reinstall Nova and see if my good luck continues.
I can live without the Facebook app if I need to (you'd think they'd get their act together, but I'm pretty sure that Facebook on my computer causes a massive memory leak too).
As a note, though, none of the reboots happened within Facebook. They mostly happened within Gmail, actually, though some happened in the Nova Settings too.
I have all those apps you have and never have random reboots.

Hm...
Well, everything seems ok right now with just Nova. Going to wait a bit before I download other apps, though. Textra or some other type of app where I can customize notification sounds is a must (I prefer to have a different sound when my wife texts me vs random text messages). Not sure on email client, though. I've used K-9 in the past, but the new Gmail may be the one I go with for now.
So far I have reinstalled everything except for Widget Locker and the 2 Facebook apps. So far so good.
I noticed when browsing lockscreen apps that Widget Locker hasn't been updated in almost 2 years...that's unfortunate.
Tried another lock screen app that was nice, and would have worked, but it stretched the wallpaper I wanted to use (picture of one of my kids) to the point where it was pixelated...that alone made me uninstall it, even though it had everything else I wanted...

No, it was Hi Locker that I used.
AcDisplay is on my list to try, though. It keeps coming up on the lists of the top lockscreen apps.
Edit: There doesn't seem to be a way to use a separate image for the lockscreen...Black background or homescreen wallpaper is all I could find. If it's there, I'd love to know where.

I unboxed my Nokia 8 this afternoon, and so far I'm impressed with the call quality and general build of the phone. All was going well, until I installed my favorite launcher (Nova Launcher Prime), and then I used a Nova Launcher backup file from another phone, which had been running Nougat. Then, I started getting this error: "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped". The screen would show this, flash off, flash on, show this, and repeat. The only action I could perform was to power off or restart. A few seconds after a restart, the problem recur.
This seems (based on reading random forum threads around the web) to have been a problem between Oreo and the "transparent notification bar" setting in Nova Launcher. I'm testing running Nova right now, without using the backup file from the old phone, and so far, so good. I did a factory reset of my phone, but you if anyone finds themselves in a similar fix, you can also try rebooting into Safe Mode and uninstalling Nova (or whatever app causes the error).
I am using Nova Launcher Prime and have transparency enabled. No errors at all. But I have set up everything from scratch.
GpoGoGo
Nova Launcher Prime works fine here after backing up from my Moto G5 Plus
Nova Launcher works fine here too. I've used Nova for a while and it's been my experience also that restoring a Nova backup from a previous phone can result in problems. Having said that, restoration on the same phone the backup has been made on has always worked flawlessly. If you start from scratch with Nova on a new phone (somewhat of a nuisance) all works well
Nova prime beta was the first thing I installed, great on Nougat and even better on Oreo.
No issues for me.
I imported a backup layout then tweaked it instead of new setup.

I've bad experience with any kind of backups (including Google backup) - always something goes wrong on any device.
I'll suggest you that when you migrating to new device just don't use any backups.
Back to topic.
I've transparent bar on (I think this is default setting) and no issues at all.
It's definitely backup fault.
I have recently started to have this issue, not sure if it is Nova causing it or something else.
I notice 2 things alongside the system crash -
Often when trying to open the camera app it will trigger the crash no matter if I have no apps open in history or 20 open.
When this happens the phone runs very hot and does not respond to anything, even the power button.
Occasionally the app draw will open (swipe up method) but not show any apps and I need to leave it for some time.
Right now I have uninstalled Nova and will use the stock launcher for a few days to test it, even though I really do not like the stock launcher as it has zero options to customise or use icon sets
I'll report back how the phone performs in the next few days but if anyone has any more info from their experiences it would be good.

I had problems with my Nova launcher. Used a backup from my old phone and then Nova made the battery drain very fast. Removed it and it's files then installed it again without the backup. Made a new config from scratch and now the battery is fine.
So far no issues with stock launcher or Microsoft launcher.
If it is still stable I will go for a fresh install of Nova in a couple of days.
