Has anyone managed to find a set of headphones with an inline mic (like iphone ones) that actually work with android?
They both have the same 4 band pin config. so assuming it can be possible. From the research I've been doing on here, and like forums, it doesn't seem like this gets properly answered which I think might be down to the kernel (newbie so posso totally worng here) not been able to register the additional vol. buttons? Has anyone managed to sort this problem out so you can use which ever sets you like with functionality?
I think this is a two part question with one part going towards the Q&A section but anyway.
Cheers,
search on ebay for galaxy s earphone i9000
I haven't found a pair of headphones that I can control volume with, but all the "iPhone-compatible" headphones I've used with my phone have had the mic and play/pause/answer/endcall button working.
Just for reference, I've tested this with AKG Q350 earbuds (volume doesn't work, everything else does), iPhone headphones (same deal), and JBuds J3M (this is my own pair, it doesn't have volume controls but does have a play/pause button, which works). The mics on all three work with the Nexus S.
Finally, it may be of note that the earbuds included with the Nexus S do not have volume controls on them, which may indicate that it isn't possible.
yea may be it isnt possible

I've the 170vi and no problems at all.
Hi guys,
Can you reccomend some other earphones ??

I have tried the HTC stock headset, the headset has the volume up/down and answer button, the answer/end and mic works, but the volume will be replaced by previous track and next track, the + will be previous and - will be next track switch around, but can be rectified easily, the design of the + and - buttons can be switch around by using your finger nail and praying off with little force.

I'm looking for a headset with control-keys on the wire. The AKG Q350 are more expensive but offer quite impressive sound.
So you wrote that the volume-keys doesnt work. Can I do something else with the volume-keys? Maybe changing prev/next track?
Thanks for your answer.
I haven't been able to get the volume buttons to do anything. I can control forward and back with double/triple press of the normal button. Maybe there are settings that I'm doing wrong or something, but initial poking around doesn't seem to reveal anything to me.
The best solution I've been able to come up with is Zagg Smartbuds (http://www.zagg.com/audio/smart-buds.php). Instead of volume buttons, there is a physical slider mechanism to control volume.
Not ideal, but definitely way better than nothing.
Also worth noting is that while the button controls (single-, double-, and triple-clicks) worked flawlessly on my Nexus One, they were super screwy on the Nexus S. The same set of headphones only registered single clicks-- a double click counted as two single clicks (pause--> resume play) and a triple as three single clicks (pause --> resume play --> pause again).
I'm currently using an app called Headset Button Controller (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.kober.headsetbutton&feature=search_result but there's also a free trial version) and it's working alright.
Sorry for the long-winded reply, but I had the same question for a long time and this is the best solution I've been able to come up with on my Nexus S.
Just bought the (Logitech) Ultimate Ears 600 vi, the volume up/down button doesn't work, but the play buttons work as expected, single press to pause, double press to next.
Skull candy's work fine

Cool, never knew the VM series existed, if it supports Galaxy S, I think it should support our NS just fine.

Found some....
The stock headphones that come with the galaxy s3 have 3 buttons and work on the nexus s out of the box.
Play pause, next track, previous track.
Now I just need to convince my wife to let me have hers...
Hope this helps.

How can you make it work?
Got the app but it doesn't feel volume buttons...
Nexus s and galaxy s earphones are diffrent I have both of them and galaxy s earphones cannot play music properly
i think there is no solution for the nexus s where volume control is possible. i looked for the same thing some time ago. finally i ended up using a bt dongle, sony-ericsson mw600. i use klipsch image s4 headphones where i shortened the cable at the connector and made them longer near the earbuds. now i can wear the headphones around the neck. in the back the cables are held together by the movable clip which was on the headphones originally. the dongle then hangs on my chest and i can but it under the t-shirt if i like. the controns offered by the dongle are back, play/pause, forward, bt-volume, accept calls and it has a microphone. i have to say that the volume control does not affect the nexus s, it is just the volume of the dongle and additionally, the volume control is annoying. it is not made of two buttons but rather a touch surface on the side of the unit which works less than brilliant most of the time. that said, i can leave my phone in my pocket and control all the functions i need for listening to music during the day. battery life of the dongle is about the same as my nexus when listening to music, around 8 hours.
So I gather there's at least two different "standards" out there for headsets with 3.5 mm plugs, which all use 4 pins (3 rings + the tip of the plug), but with different pin outs - let's call them 'iPhone style' and 'Nokia style'.
Which one does the Legend use? Is there a list somewhere of headsets that are known to be working 100%?
TIA
From what I'm aware of I don't know of any third party wired headsets that allow the same full functionality of the HTC supplied ones.
I'm pretty sure all iPhone compatible headsets will work for audio / mic / call answer button, however I don't think volume control works (on headsets equipped with it).

As I looked for a headset with a 90° plug, I found the Nokia HS-125 wired HS.
I ordered and found out - not working. I opened the little plasticcase and swapped
those two wires (Pin 3&4).
Now its working perfectly and its possible to play/pause and select the next track (double press). And call functions also work.
What I did is that I bought the "cheap headset" and 3,5mm jack earphones from sonyericsson (I was able to buy those earphones without the SE adaptor...)
Now I have a great sound plus the ability to play/pause and it only cost me around 17 EUR (with shipping) try and search some local e-shops I'm sure you'll find something!
My Iphone headphones are fully functional as are my old hero ones
Thanks guys, looks like iPhone-compatible ones are worth a try.

Got mine from Gatwick airport and the clarity is awesome.Made for the iphone 4 but is pretty damn great on the legend
The Marshall Minor headset is also compatible (but no volume adjustment) - and both sound and build quality are tremendous. I'm a bit puzzled about the mic button functions though. Using my Legend's stock music player, all I can do is play/pause the music, pressing the Marshall's mic button once. If I press it twice, the phone starts calling the last-dialled number. If I press and hold the button, nothing happens. Using Poweramp, one press means play/pause, press and hold means skip forward. Double press does nothing but play-then-pause, i.e.no auto-dial function. Using Mortplayer beta, one press means play/pause, two means skip forward, three means skip backwards. No press-and-hold and no auto-dial. I'd like to have the Mortplayer functionality as well as the auto-dial function. Anyone knows a music app that does this, or another workaround?

Hello,
I recent l have gotten myself the XZ , truely a great phone. I use the phone as mp3, with an wired headset. Its is a trrs jack (wich bassicly means audio and a mic. Here's my problem. Th original buds work perfect. One tap on the button is for play/pause. But i don't like the buds that came with it. So I've tried others. There were 2 types. #1: buds with button for the mic(answering calls etc) and #2: a button for the mic and two volume buttons(-/+).
My experiences :
#1: the button for the mic does only one thing and that is putting the volume up. When I discovered I was jogging, dubble tapped the button as I though it would skip to the next song, like on an iPod ( yeah, I have an iPod ) and it scared the hell out of me.
#2: nearly the same as with #1. Differences :the button for the mic actually could pauze/play, but only for a limited time, after a minute or so it went back to increasing the volume. Crazy thing here is..the volume buttons actually work.
Oke, so I've tested it with an app that's called Jays headset control. It has a headset monitor (advance->extra->headset monitor) When the sony is plugged in, and i press the button, it says I pressed "button up, button down" and it results in a "single click" . With both #1 and #2 it only adjusts the volume.
Lucky i have multply devices to test it on. Same app, but on a galaxy s3, PERFECTLY. Both the sony and the other two worked perfectly. UND...to confuse you even more, if i plug them in my iPod, the all the the same thing. One press for play/pause, double press for next song, press three times for previous song. I already have tried to re map the buttons, with the app, but it didn't work.
The headsets I've used are:
Sony: MH750 (came with the XZ)
Sony: MH650c (old one from a Xperia S)
Samsung: EHS44ASSBE GH59-10443F (Is the one i want to use/ single button)
Samsung: EHS64AVFWE GH59-11720A (The one with mic and -/+ button)
I would very much like someone to explain this to me or better yet, provide me a solution.
Thanks in Advance
I had tried iPhone 5 headset and solo hd in both of them Mic button worked
t the volume buttons did not work
Dude might pay to shorten your question, because I am sure most people will give up reading it all.
My old HTC beats headset works exactly the same, forward & back songs keys is up or down volume, (pause, play and answer call - One Button) the same. And the microphone works great.
Then i suppose it only happens with the samsung budds..can anyone comfirm ?
Im using the MeElectronics A161p and the mic, music pause n song skip works.. I highly recommend this IEMs as it is touted to be the best of them out there for the price. Heck its been reviewed to be better than other 3 times the price

The Z, like most new phones, works with CTIA standard headsets. OMTP ones won't fully work.

Samsung's white "premium" headset ( the one that comes with Note and Note 2 ) is CTIA. Their Galaxy S headphones are probably not CTIA because they don't work completely with Note devices.
My current Galaxy S3 came with earbuds that have have music control buttons on the headphone cord. 3 buttons in total, one for volume up, one for volume down, and one for play/pause (and could also skip with a double click).
Will my GS3 earbuds' inline buttons work with the Moto X?
If not, is there another 3rd party earbuds that would replicate the same music functions on the Moto X as the stock earbuds did with the GS3 (Volume up/down, play/pause, skip/back)?
You can try apple headphones works for me

from my experience, it depends on the music player that you use. I have the same earphones and i tried using them to see if it worked and it didnt. so i thought it was the headphones. Than i tried to use my beats headphones buttons and it didnt work either. I than looked into other music players to try. I use goneMad music player for example and in the settings there is an option to turn on button functions. i turned that on and now the buttons on both headphones work
The controls on my Jabra Sport + work fine with my Moto X.
I can confirm that the GS3 white earbuds controls dont work with the Moto X in PowerAmp or Google Play Music.

I currently got a hold of an old galaxy s3 headset with inline controls, vol + and - and a separate button. None of them work on my phone (running lineage 13 ATM), yet the earbuds work fine. I've even tried with a Philips adapter cable, the earbuds still work OK but the buttons don't even flinch. Using playerpro as my main music player, tries jays controls and headset droid. They don't even recognize the button presses but they detect when the headset is plugged and unplugged.
Is there a way I can use this headset with my phone? I do have exposed installed if that helps
Anyone?
