hi everyone, well I'll go straight to the point. I have a galaxy ace and want to upgrade to cm9 (beta 9), i did it, is amazing, finally camera works (don't mind preview and laggynes) but the only think it gives me headache is how to restore data connection (apn), i tried doing using apn restore & backup app like always did, but it says failed cause something i don't understand, don't know which post gives some solution but i miss the line, plz i need help and if it is possible a step by step guide to restore data connection thanks in advance...
New APN is created when you insert the SIM and switch on your phone. Atleast that is what happens in my phone. Check in Settings->More(under wireless & networks)->Mobile networks->Access point names
so, do you suggested that i have to flash it without the sim card, switch off the phone, insert the sim and then switch on, am i right? and the apn will generated automatically?...

hi all
i thought i would attempt to flash my samsung s with the new beta froyo update.
i followed this guys tutorial.
( cant link to it sorry its the noobs guide with detailed instructions through kies and odin)
i used the odin approach
i managed to root the phone.
on reboot it asked for an unlock code (o2 uk) so i went on to try and follow the steps about unlocking it. which neither worked all the way through the steps.
on reboot it appears to have signal and in the about section it says i am onnected to the o2 network but when i try to make a call is says "data network not available with an ok button, which when pressed will return you to the ome screen.
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
Almost the same problem,
installed 2.2 update successfully, the phone worked for like 3-4 days very well and after that today i discovered "Emergency calls only"
so the question now is did i bought phone which later was reported stolen? or somehow i broke it?
Anyone have any idea?
hmmm, I have the same problem! In the status menu, the number is shown, but the network, says "unknown"
Hi! I have this exact same problem except I was unlocking my phone using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906255
But I didn't back up my Efs folder, now my phone is unlocked but when I put a sim card in it I have very little network and when I try to make a call I get " NO DATA NETWORK AVAILABLE".
I've tried everything but I don't know what to do!
I was thinking of two ways to fix it:
1. Reinstall froyo (not quite sure how using the samsung software as my laptop oesn't recognised the phone as a pone)
2. Downgrade to, get unlock code using market app and then upgrade to froyo again.
I know I messed up but now I really need to fix this.
Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help me out.

might need to change the modem in odin i think. just heard about it
did u try restarting the phone... just a wild guess...
I had the same issue before and was puzzled. Its actually a very simple solution:
1. Re-lock your phone, search through xda there is a code you have to enter
2. Unlock your phone
All done! Surprisingly easy
Try the Odin method in block 2 back to Eclair if ok then upgrade to Froyo .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
However your non connection might be due to not flashing a firmware with your network settings in which case manual settings of APN .
If your IMEI has changed due to flashing and you did not back up your EFS folder then little hope but do a google / search of XDA as some have reported success .

Emergency calls only
I had a custom rom that was giving that to me too. I think it means that you can access a network different from your sim (because usually emerg calls can be made from any phone I think?).
I'd try and find a rom that is optimized for your carrier or at least a modem file from a stock rom that is for your carrier. You may also need to reselect the APN settings (or enter them for your carrier). Its under settings/wireless and network/Mobile networks/access point names (use the menu button to add an APN).
you could also try re downloading and flashing the rom to make sure that is the issue. Mine said it installed OK but never booted up, redownloaded and reflashed and then it was fine but the install screens looked identical.

Hi! Thank you so much for everyone's replies!
My IMEI isn't changed and someone helped me check my efs files and they are all ok. I'm going to try and reflash froyo through the samsung software to see if the network lock comes back and then try to unlock again. For this I'm going to unroot the phone and follow samsungs' instructions.
I'm afraid to relock the phone as there are reports that say it completely messes everything up!
But I'll keep you guys posted! Wish me luck!!!!
PS. Any other suggestions are more than welcome!
So, a quick update on my situation.
I uninstalled busybox and unrooted my phone using the oneclick root tool.
Did a factory format and, surprise surprise, my phone now works perfectly!
Apart from the fact that it doesn't connect to kies, but that's a whole another issue!
Tank you so much to all of you who answered my cry for help!

I installed the MIUI Rom on my Galaxy and everything was working fine except I had no reception. Is there something else I need to install? I used guide on this forum and I successfuly installed everything to the tee. I'm hearing from a friend that I need to install a radio band.
firstly check your IMEI number, sometimes this gets corrupted if the flash is not 100% spot on !
make sure it matches the one on your box.
secondly if the IMEI is fine. go into settings > personal > mobile network settings > select use only use 2g networks.
If that still doesnt give you reception, Maybe try to re flash the ROM and make sure you have the latest kernel installed.
Then finally as a last resort you can try to change the modem.... which is rare not to get any reception at all no matter what modem you use...
Thanks, I'll try this.
I think the problem is more to do with the SIM card not being detected because none of my contacts that were saved onto my SIM card aren't showing up either.
you have to select import under contacts

Got 3G working on my phone If u have radio 01.97.00R installed on your phone it should work already, just reset your APN settings. Fixed links
If u have 2.3.4 HKTW already installed Skip step 1 and try to see if u can get 3G working. If not just start over.
1. First go to here and follow every thing (Navalynt's Mod) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142674
People that are using windows http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139715 this is what I used to install 2.3.4 HKTW
After I did all that I root my Phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140110
2.Install Radio 01.97.00R for AT&T http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128963
a.Turn off phone. Hold up volume and power keys at same time till it boots up to RSD and plug phone into computer.
b. Open RSD Lite and install Radio 01.97.00R
3.APN
I upload my APN for AT&T, (Update) Should be able to send and receive pictures and video to and from people for At&t only!
Download ApnManager From Market.
Put ApnManager Folder in to the internal sdcard.
Open ApnManager and click resort APN. See if u can now send and receive, If not try restarting.
My old APN had Custom Tethering that messed up Picture Messaging! You can try deleting that if u can't send or receive pictures!

I am on ATT and did not have a single issue on this rom with 3G or any other APN related issues.
I didn't even have to detect network to get it to run.

Same with me after running Nav's Mod file. I will try this and reset settings later to see if it fixes my internet issues.
Seriously? Do you have to post a tutorial for this? Are you that desperate for a thanks? Look around there are at least 3 threads with this same info.

Some people need more hand-holding than others. Making it idiotproof has a niche.
i have flashed this mulitple time. fresh. unlocked. rooted. everything. i cant get it to work on my phone, i get a signal and the one bar thing but no data. its fkn gay/weird. i only get this with 2.3.4. anyone know what i am doing wrong or can help me? i woulkd really appreciate it.
Settings for internet if on 3 Network
Ok at first when i go my phone i couldn't make a calls, and when i did the phone would restart itself. So i flashed the radio to 87.00r and it worked.
Then i had to manually set up the apn in order for my internet to work (Mobile Data)
Menu, Settings, Wireless & Networks,Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, create or edit apn.
Name - 3
APN - three.co.uk
ANP TYPE - default
save settings and restart your phone - and that's it really.
I downloaded APN Manager as you stated. I'm in Minnesota, and I switched the APN to one for T-Mobile and got double the speed. Why is that?

How did u flash 2.3.4 and U have your APN set up right and select HSPA and restart. U can check if trying to connect, Go to Settings, to About phone, to Status And Its under Mobile network state!
FOR THOSE ON AT&T
If you are on the AT&T Network and you upgraded to GB from Froyo and didn't delete your APNs or carried them over using Titanium Backup, you should be fine.
For those of you who didn't or installed Navalynt's Mod/reset your data/whatever else you did to lose your APNs, you don't need to download APN Manager in order to get it back.
It seems the problem with the defaulted APN for AT&T in this particular build is that it is missing the password. If you put back in the password, it works perfectly fine. The password is 'CINGULAR1'. So for anyone having problems with their APNs, try defaulting it or just adding the password in first.
Let me know how that goes for you guys
P.S. Can we get someone to mod the default APN to include the password? Or even better, to replace the defaults and add in the defaults from Froyo build? If someone can (or i can try to look into it) that'd be amazing
Can anyone help i have upgraded my phone after much trouble trying to unlock it via market apps & superoneclick neither worked and the phone ended up going into some dead mode and wouldnt fully load up.
So in still trying to end up with a network unlocked phone i have managed to upgrade my phone to GINGERBREAD.XXJVQ 2.3.4 which was successful and work perfectly over my broadband wireless network but when i try to make calls it tell me
"MOBILE NETWORK NOT AVAILABLE"
the mobile was previously on three uk network but is now debranded obviously with gingerbread
i tried a hard reset via *2767*3855* but still no change.
any help greatly appreciated many thanks in advance
Ged
Just look like your phone have been locked on three network.and your unlock is failed.
Did you try found any phone shop on market to unlock your phone?
probably just five pound for each one on Chinatown.
I was stay in UK for 3 year, and as I know, the Chinatown guys have special device for unlock phone ,one simply for all, whatever you upgrade rom,you will be never locked again.
I'm not sure about that really cause it also does this with my correct network sim card still installed......
You've checked your apn settings? Sounds top suspect to me.
If you've still got problems, flash ezbase gingerbread. Search dev section, full, simple instructions included.
I tried that it tells me i should
"insert a sim card to access network services"
Could you point me in the right direction so i know im using the right programs and files
Please check your IMEI number by dialing *#06# on the keypad. If it displays the correct imei number as displayed on the Phone box/ under the battery, then you are saved. If not you have lost your efs folder which contains the files which hold the imei data.
Did u get the phone with Gingerbread as stock rom? Try downgrading to an Eclair (2.1) ROM with Odin.
hello again peoples,
I'm very grateful for all your assistance but i just wasn't paying attention when i was putting my SIM card into my phone and put it in the wrong way round...!
i mean what happened to SIM card slots where sim cards only fit in one way...!
again thanks alot for all your assistance also i've ended up upgrading to Insanity 2.3.5
Thank s
Razr i XT890 JB - Bootloader was successfully unlocked and installed JellyAOSP 1.2
Now can only access data through wi-fi but can use the dialler.
Any help to solve this much appreciated.
Hi,
You should first check your APN configuration.
If your configuration is ok, then you should ask the rom dev if it's a known issue or not.

Many thanks Ciberbeb for replying.
I have entered and saved the correct APN settings so can send and receive calls.
It is only data via mobile network [wifi ok] that is the problem.
I can't post on Dev pages as I'm a noobie.
You're welcome
Actually, configuring your APN is needed to be able to use data over the mobile network.
You can check your mobile provider for a particular configuration for android.
That's all I can tell...
I may take a screenshot of my configuration but it's specific to my country and operator.
Thanks Ciberbeb
My provider confirmed the correct APN details and they're saved - which is presumably why I can make and receive calls. Same details worked in my HTC for calls and data whereas this one onnly accepts wi-fi.
You're welcome
Alright, so that's weird ...
And does it work if you restore an nandroid of your original rom ?
If yes, then this may be a ROM issue, and you should contact the ROM cooker.

Thanks Ciberbeb for your thoughtful help.
I made the most basic error and didn't back up original ROM [and Moto not much help].
Now ditching the phone and back to old HTC
Really appreciated your input. Thanks
Ahh ! Always perform a nandroid backup prior to flashing !!
You should know this
Anyway, you can use RSD Lite to restore the original Moto rom.
I however don't really know the procedure, so you best read these topics:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974568 for basics on Moto tools
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239706 for original firmwares
Take care with the tools, you're bootloader is unlocked, don't brick your phone!
You can try another rom as well, to confirm if it's a rom issue or not.
You can now push the thanks button
EDIT: You may try a factory reset before anything else. Did you wipe cache/data before flashing JellyAOSP?
Thanks Ciberbeb
Yes, not backing up was a huge mistake but not had any probs before so didn't this time.
Will look carefully at the links you've kindly found and have nothing to lose now so will try anything [well almost!].
Factory reset hasn't worked and Moto weren't helpful with software [understandabe really I suppose].
Did try two other ROMS [completely wiping system before each one] but they didn't install. Perhaps I've a rogue phone... or just a rogue user. LOL
Hitting Thanks... with much gratitude!
What's your problem, again? You don't have mobile network, like edge, h, 3g? If that's the case you need to set proper apns or get apns-conf.xml from another rom you know brings the ones you need. But it has nothing to do with making calls or sending texts, that's a signal thing.

Thanks Anerik for replying [and a brilliant ROM that is fast and clean].
My only problem was not being able to get data via 3G.
I manually entered the usual configs through the APN menu and saved it. When this didn't work I requested a new sim card [in case micro to nano was causing the issue] but the provider texted the apn installation file through for the new sim and I still have the same prob with no data in the Razri except through wifi.
This was the only ROM that installed cleanly and quickly so it is probably something stupid that I've done!
To save your time I'll clarify the following:
The bootloader procedure was successfully and cleanly executed.
The Root Checker confirmed this.
JellyASOP on SD card was installed easily on a fully wiped phone as your instructions.
No problem anywhere else when in wifi mode.
Thanks for your time and patience

Have tried reinserting sim and done a manual apn input. Will try location suggestion 2mrw.
Am sure it isn't your ROM and beginning to think it's a Motorola fault as I went down the rooting process because the phone wouldn't read a sim [which I think is a common fault].
Hitting thanks and just sorry it didn't sort out my Razri cos is a great prog you've written.
