USB Mount - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi, I'm wandering how to mount USB drive on my brand new 4x.
I really need to sync my Handy Safe data with my PC, but even if I tried all the connection option available I wasn't able to sync them.
Any help really appreciated, thanks.

I think what he 'is looking for is a USB Host feature. I don't think that the 4xHD can do that out of the box...

Yes, I have an application (Handy Safe, password/info secure storage) I used on symbian and on my 2x before.
You have a mobile apk and a desktop one, and you can sync the datas between them.
Normally I had no problem on changing phone (or ROM), just because I could sync back all my data from my desktop.
Now, on 4x, the desktop application can't sync data because he is not able to find the drive where the mobile database is!
I'm quite desperate about this, I had many many infos on that program, and I'll hate to digit those infos again on the phone...

I found a solution from the net if you still have problem, just copy the 3 files from epocware directory from pc to phones internal card where it is installed .Your data is transferred.

MyPhoneExplorer (wifi-usb-bluetooth) - Kies air (wifi) - Wifi file explorer (wifi).
Dropbox and Chrome to Phone are worth a look .
jje
I use dropbox too, to access files on my computer from my phone.
May i suggest in my and your intrest to use my link for signing up at Dropbox.
DropBox Sign Up
This will give both you and me more storage space ! Thanks.
There is also an app that lets you photograph files on your desktop which will then get downloaded to your phone, i can't remember its name atm though...
Will update when i remember it....
Android Manager.
Transfer, sync much like Kies air but better inmo. But you also have to install the windows client which you can find here

Mounting Tab as Mass Storage on Windows

I picked up my tab this morning and have had a hell of a time mounting it as USB storage to transfer movies and pics ect... but I figured it out so I thought I'd share with the XDA community simply because there really isnt anything out there that I could find on Google.
1. download USB drivers from samsung: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/ga...eration+-+10.1+Tab_Galaxy+Tab_galaxy+tab+10.1
2. install drivers
3. reboot pc
4. turn off usb debugging... VERY IMPORTANT AS IT IS ENABLED BY DEFAULT
5. plug in via usb
6. enjoy!!
If it works for you please hit the "thanks" button
Worked like a charm for me bro. . Thanks!

worked for me. USB debugging. Who would have thought?
Freaking TouchWiz... With stock android you can use debugging AND mass storage mode. STOP IT SAMSUNG!
Still didnt work for me. Found issue with hardware error from windwos :/. This is such a pain.

not sure why this is such an issue getting this thing connected to the PC
Works to transfer "recognized" files extensions. However things like .mkv or .mpg make windows explorer crash. When I transferred an avi file it wanted to convert it. Seriously, WTF samsung? I loved your stuff but this is a bit much. I should be able to treat it like an SD card.

Been having the same problem. Transferring .wmv or .mov files makes my pc crash. Although I was able to plug it into a different pc and it was automatically recognized as USB and worked fine. I wonder if it has anything to do with my galaxy s drivers.
It works, but not as a removable storage device. It sees it as a portable device, which isn't as good.
This is pretty useless.. it's treated like Apple treats their devices... as some kind of media device and not just a regular drive.
Looks like a large oversight on Samsung's side.. can be easily fixed, luckily.
What are you lot talking about?
You do, unfortunately, need latest version of kies installed, USB debugging switched off, plug the thing in and is recognised as a removable drive... you don't need to use kies but is just active in the background and displayed on screen of tab...
All files transfer no problem including .mkv .AVI etc. If your explorer crashes it is a problem with explorer... sometimes caused by other software that is integrated into explorer contextual menus...ie if you have a bootcamp Mac with macdrive installed the explorer pane ( tree listing) will always crash explorer if you try to copy and paste from there... you have to do it from the large pane on right...
Hope this helps
Forgot to say if you're having driver problems the latest is here
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/GT-P7510UWVXAB
Install drivers from executable file downloaded from above...
When you connect your tab Best way to ensure satisfactory installation is to ignore " found new hardware blah blah, search for drivers blah blah" go to device manager find the non installed Samsung, right click and select update drivers, browse... the above installed drivers are in program files, Samsung, usb drivers... select USB drivers folder, validate et voila
Hi jhild352!
Honeycomb tablet cannot be mounted as mass storage, for the simple reason there is no more real sdcard formated in Fat32.
/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 /system ext4 ro,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /cache ext4 rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 /data ext4 rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /efs ext4 rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/fuse /mnt/sdcard fuse rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=1023,group_id=1023,default_permissions,allow_other 0 0
Everything is in Ext4, and sdcard is "emulated" via fuse.
That's why Honeycomb tablets use MTP instead, which I agree sucks.
Wonder if anyone's figured out a way to get this ****er mounted in Mac.
Sorry for the potty mouth, I'm just annoyed @ Samsung, haha.
hehe
Yes this is true... my bad for wording it the wrong way. I simply ment that you could plug it into a PC and transfer pics/movies/song ect

Kies works well for music, photos, and movies, but how would I go about putting a book on it without using dropbox? Why couldn't they just make it to where we could mount it as a drive like with an sdcard?! Samsung, you make everything overly difficult!

Excatly the same way that it works on the Xoom, funny that has been such a big issue. (ok on the xoom it works also with the debugging on)
On the upside, the new ext4-based arrangement gives Honeycomb a unified internal storage, which is really great. Avoids the whole business of contention, and mounting internal storage that the device may be using for other things. Allows proper permissions to be applied. I don't particularly have an issue with MTP either, for media transfers. Obviously this isn't an issue with cloud-based ways of getting media onto the device, which is the way things are heading.
But I think this is why having an SD card slot is still valuable, and Sammy made a mistake not putting one in the Gtab10.1 - using SD card you can just pop some movies onto your tablet from your PC, or have multiple SD cards at the ready - same for having a blank SD at the ready for updates. It's a far better arrangement than mounting internal storage, IMHO.
I know its not really the solution to the issue but an obvious workaround would be wifi file explorer? I think I remember even using adhock and then using the PC browser to upload and download the files. Not ideal but atleast enables quick updates of media and such.
If its only got ext4 its never going to mount in dozzz no later the drivers/programs ect. I had a hell of a time trying to get some media of a popcornhour a-100.. long story short ended up just ftp'ing everything off. Hey what about andftp too?
Or a live Linux distro might do the trick.. lol six to one on any time savings but could work??
AFTERTHOUGHT: Hmm I'm wondering if android commander would cope? I'm sure I've used it on a ext4 ROM and pushed stuff into the system partition. Or is that trickery on its part? I'd have a crack... but I'm on my p1000 for a little longer... :-(
Also perhaps; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456
thanks, now we just need a fix for mac!

Thanks to MTP, Cannot see all files on SD from PC

EDIT: Re-editing my post to remove the rant.
Basically, MTP ignores folders with .nomedia files in them... very short sighted.
Just wondering if there are any good alternatives out there, and what people prefer, other than just rebooting to recovery to mount USB?
I use wireless transfer apps like Samba. You can set it up on your network and browse the touchpad just like another directory.

True, that does work. I have been using Android Commander, which freezes sometimes... and doesn't like to connect over USB, so I have to use WiFi.
I guess what I'm hoping for is something that will work over USB which is a little faster for transfers than WiFi, which can be pretty slow for larger files.
The reason MTP ignores other files is because it stands for Media Transfer Protocol.

Yeah, I think I'm smart enough to figure that out.
Don't care. It is insufficient, because it makes it very difficult to manage the SD Card as a filesystem, forcing use of 3rd party utilities. I've heard all of Google's excuses for ending support of USB Mass Storage mode, but in the end, they did not give us a workable alternative.
The reason I use a .nomedia file is because I'd rather not have thousands of images from manga/comics, etc, show up in my Gallery app.

Well i don't know how smart you are and was just trying to be helpful ,its not often I get told for trying . I will try to be more careful/refrain before offering any advice in the future.
I use FTP to transfer files from PC to my touchpad vise versa first install ES file explorer from Play Store, go to settings> remote settings> turn on remote manage> set the parameters
Use filezilla on your PC to enter the IP add of your touchpad>quick connect and you can access your tablet files
I use Android Sync Manager over WiFi (Free in the Play Store and a free download for the PC) which lets me transfer back & forth over a WiFi network connection.
OK I will try again there is an app called USB Mass Storage Watcher. I have just installed it and put a tick in Mount mass storage automatically. Now when I connect to my PC although the tablet says connected as media device when I open the USB SD card on my computer I am able to see all files and tested by transferring a 1.3 g backup file to my desktop.
Maybe this helps ?

[Q] Best way to sync over usb?

So I am still using Win7 mtp mount with explorer to copy files to and from device. Huge pain in the arse to transfer folders containing a larger than usual amount of files, such as dcim, titanium backups, etc. for some reason the merge feature in explorer doesn't work with mtp..
I have searched for a windows pc synchronization solution, no luck so far.
always sync doesn't even see the mtp. create synchronicity, my favorite, sees the mtp but doesn't seem to work. puresync works for a while then stops with some device timeout error which kinda defeats its batch purpose..
Do you know of a functional over the usb merge/sync method or tool?
thanks!

Info from sdcard to Nexus 6

So during the long eons between ordering my 64gb Midnight blue Nexus 6 and its actual delivery I am in pondering mode:
Best way to transfer the info & files from my GS4 sdcard to Nexus 6?
1. Connect GS4 to PC, drag 'n drop to pc file. Connect Nexus 6 to PC & reverse d&d?
2. Remove sdcard from GS4 & put into card reader connected to PC & do the d&d thing.
3. Card Reader for micro usb plugged into Nexus 6 & move the files into internal memory.
4. Is there a direct phone to phone method that won't take forever? If so, what?

Lolipop apparently has a new system to move content from your old phone to your new one via tapping them together (NFC). Not sure how it actually works, though - probably sets up a P2P share via WiFi and moves things that way.
In my opinion, the best way is the simplest: tether old phone to a PC then back up, tether new phone to PC and restore. You will not be able to get everything that way (texts, for example, aren't easy to move unless you are using something like Hangouts as your SMS app), but it will work for most things. And, of course, keeping as much stuff on the cloud to begin with is a good way to start; photos/music/docs, etc can just be pulled down from GDrive/OneDrive/DropBox/etc as needed.
I plan on using my < $1 OTG cable and an SD card reader.

Pretty sure the new transfer thing is lollipop to lollipop only.
Thanks for the info, guys.
Wifi direct and NFC are in kit kat, pretty sure. Someone mentioned an app called Super beam that is supposed to organize & facilitate the process.
In my experience wired communication has been faster than a wireless one. But the PC method takes two transfers. ...to pc & then back to the other phone. So the wifi direct method could be just as fast.
The otg cable & card reader sounds as if it might be the fastest since only a single, wired transfer is involved.
That said, I guess priority should be given to ease of use. Preserving the file / folder structure and being able to set up the whole thing as a batch operation would be paramount.

Nope ... It utilizes your google account to go and grab apps and setup from previous devices, plus if you use NFC it will use that to read the other phone. There have been several reviews and videos on it already.
ES File Explorer let's you transfer files phone to phone via WiFi. I'd imagine that putting it in a micro USB reader like the meenova would be faster though.
I backup all my stuff on OneDrive and Google Drive. All the app will be download when I activate the phone so no need to worry on that.

I know that Titanium doesn't back up personal data like pictures, music, documents etc

For personal data, I backup my photo on the cloud drive same with document. I usually load my music from my computer using iSyncr so no need to worry about personal data
I rarely put any important stuff on my phone only because I'm screw if i lost my phone
One way i get my stuff backup is set the directory on the cloud drive to backup. Not sure if Google Drive does it but I'm using OneDrive to backup all my photo directory
