Im also curious if there's any difference in firmware if let's say i live in singapore and upgraded using the malaysia version? Since the ics for singapore isnt out yet, and i cant wait anymore, are there huge performance changes between region specific roms?

You ask the right question! I can't understand this. Does Samsung officially response on this emmc bug problem?

Say for example, you purchase an ERP software and start to modify/customize the software to your taste/requirement, and it run well w/out any issue. Later when the ERP vendor release an updated version of the software, you updated and your modified/customized component doesn't fit in and has causes corruption on your data, that is your own problem, there won't be any issue if you've used the software as it is, without modifying a single code.
The same applies to the so-called emmc bug, does it even trigger if you've use the firmware as it is? Only the dev/expert will know.
Actually it triggers during normal factory resets too.
Edit: As per the bricking threads, it has a certain percentage of happening. Making the whole thing uncertain with people having successes with some having bricks.

I am not too sure if it is different for Android Gingerbread and ICS .

Because they're taking a gamble on it happening only in a minority of cases or a minority of users being susceptible.
Presumably they have risk assessment or a conscious thought process internally that we're not privy to. To us it looks random in occurrance. Perhaps Samsung know more about it than we do and can take calculated risks.
Chip in what you would do.

I would obviously root. Then the first thing after that would be to unlock the bootloader.

I'm probably going to try out stock Android for a while without any tweaks to be honest. I have never done stock android or a Nexus device before so I'll see how that sits with me. After that I expect the on-screen buttons will likely be tweaked somehow since I'm not used to them. Then I'll be waiting for my unicorn swagger with AOKP.
Unlock the bootloader since that erases everything on the device. Then, show my gf how my Android phone blows away her iP5. It's Ok, she's used to it.

I was actually wondering the same thing. I just read a thing over on AndroidCentral on how to unlock the bootloader, and they said to do it before you set up your phone because it wipes all the data. What are the advantages of unlocking it? I've only had a phone where you need to run an app to root it, and another to install a recovery and flash a ROM. I still know how to use adb and such, but I've never needed to use a bootloader.
Tapatalk² from my Optimus V
Underclock the hell out of the device or disable 1 or 2 cores if possible.
What app allows the guy in the video to use those keys? I've seen a couple apps similar but they weren't as polished.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Unlocking the bootloader allows for custom recoveries to be installed, otherwise it will be locked and that means that any programs you have that try to install a custom recovery will fail. I also think that you need the custom recovery to root the device and so you need to unlock for root too. To be completely honest there are no negative side effects (apart from your data being stolen if your phone is lost) and so I would always recommend unlocking the bootloader asap, I've had a few friends want to run CM10 on their Gnexus and I had to tell them that they'd be wiping everything including the internal storage.
I know I'll be unlocking before I turn the phone on for the first time.
Just installed MIUI-20120608 on my Bionic, switching from GummyNex 1.2. I like it so far but I THINK I need a little schooling on how to set it up.
First, the reason I switched in case it matters, I loved GummyNex but the video recorder never worked, I guess it is an option that they never got to work from what I read, I can't seem to get it to work on the MIUI rom either although I want to believe it will since it seems to recognize it has a video recorder.
Secondly, I am having some issues getting the data to work, I saw online that there are some steps to go through to get it to work (go to phone info>switch to GSM only; go to setting>mobile networks>CMDA/LTE....) which works but everytime my phone reboots I have to repeat the process. There has to be a way to set it up once and thats it.
Thirdly, there are a LOT of flexibility with this ROM, AWESOME. But I don't know where to start, what all the options mean to me. Instead of trial and error I am hoping some of the experienced users could share some of the best "setups" with me?
Thanks guys!

My Bionic!!
Dear all,
I have recently rooted my Samsung galaxy note using this method:www .cursed4eva.com/root-galaxy-note/ which worked very well and i had no issues.
I then installed Beats audio pro from the play store and thats when i started to get issues like crashes and such so i uninstalled the app, then thats when i started to get a error message saying "Process system not responding" which would result in me losing control of my keyboard and i completely lost service and was unable to make calls etc(O2 UK).
I then performed a factory wipe and cleared the cache but this has made matters worse now when i reboot it only shows up for a couple of minutes then shows the "process system not responding" error message then goes to a blank screen with only the two lights at the bottom showing and i cant use my phone at all.
Please Help ill paypal anyone who can get my phone to work again.
Oh and Hi im Nathan nice to meet you all

Not sure what the point of the last thread was. It's possible that the hot fixed had a virus? Be careful about the sites you choose for Android tweaks, it's incredibly susceptible to viruses. I could be way off here.

Am I missing something here. Where did the virus come from?
It's not difficult to add things into an app. They're saying that someone could have embedded a virus in what he used for root, to hijack his phone.

Hey there. New to the one and was wondering if there were any cm10 roms that can be flashed with s-on
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
As far as I understand it, any ROM can be flashed s-on without issue on the One (caveat below). It's different than the 3D. But the revone method of s-off is super easy so it's worth doing (see my web signature for a link). Also, from my understanding, some people have bricked their Ones trying to flash AOSP ROMs. I think s-off people have better luck with it.

The Two That I know of and have done my self are Viper and cyanogenmod. I have not take the step to s off yet as I am very new to this and am learning before I do just as you described (Brick my phone). You can easily find these two ROMs here on this site.
ViperROM v1.1.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241016
CyangenMod
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=nightly&device=m7spr
and that is where I got the ones I used as well.
It does matter which carrier you have as I made that mistake and was in bootloop which you dont want to do.
For information on that see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2353956
FWIW I was one of the people who got bricked, and I and some others helped to compile a list of victims. The last brick was on 6/29 after which the kernel was really overhauled.
Most (including me) are calling the bug squashed.

Bricking a phone would def suck! but i was under the impression, and maybe im wrong, that there is usually a way to fix it. Again im no pro but i kind of jumped into the whole rooting thing without knowing ANYTHING about it on my 3D and never seemed to mess it up more than having to flash a new RUU at worst. anyway i really love the IllusionRom. but cant seem to get google wallet to work, which is kind of a bummer. but i also really love Sense 5, and dont mind using stock one bit. I suggest going for it and checking everything out, more than likely you'll be fine. best of luck

A brick can never be recovered. It must be replaced. A BORK can pretty much always be fixed via ADB.
Also, I heard there was a workaround for the wallet issue. Just search it up. It has something to do with the build . prop.

Or if not ADB, judicious use of fastboot and RUU. I cut my teeth on a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, and after a three-month long recovery process, nothing the HTC One can pull is likely to faze me anymore.
Anyway, there are certain devices that can be recovered from a low-level brick (assuming by brick we're saying a device is completely non-responsive to input, hardware and software wise) but it's pretty involved at the best of times.
