NOTE: Please have the update zip for the ICS leak you want to "unstuck" to on your external SD card before starting. You cannot mount SD cards in the semi-bricked states between flashing option 1 "unbrick" of this and installing that update zip in Motorola Recovery.
This by default contains the fastbootable files to re-flash .235. If you want to go to a future/leak or official OTA with this replace the boot.img with the .235 one (read the included readme.txt for more information).
What this tool does:
1) Flashed system.img & preinstall.img from 5.9.905 and the boot.img from (default) .235 to allow the install of .235 in motorola recovery (you MUST put the update zip on your external SD card yourself ! You cannot mount using your phone once you flash this step.
2) Root MotoICS 4.0.4 using razrsedge by Dan Rosenberg.
If your computer cannot run the runme.bat utility you can do each option separately using Unbrick.bat or Root404byDanRosenberg.bat respectively.
To root have phone booted, drivers installed, USB Debugging enabled, and USB Mode set to MTP or Camera (not USB Mass Storage). If still getting "devices not found" wipe data and try again.
If you cannot run option 1 "Unbrick" then your Battery is LOW and/or the drivers are not installed.
For those that are wondering the link currently provided is not the correct one. I'm sure mattlgroff will update when he wake sup or you can google for his other thread with the same title where johnlgalt has posted the correct link.
*Note: this will not be of much use until you need to move forward from .235, but for those that like to be prepared...

hey i tryed reflashing 235 and got this error invaild cg otv (cg;sytem); invaild sp data invalid cg hab (cg:system, status: 0x0035) Invalid cg otv (cg; system) when trying to go into recovery i used the stuck bionic script .????????
I downloaded SamuriHL's House of Bionic program and it saved my butt when I encountered the same issue as you a few days ago. You should be able to google House of Bionic to get the link to this program. I haven't posted enough on this site to be able to post any links on this forum. Here's a tip that may help you out here. If you have trouble getting this program to work after installing it o. Your PC, just reboot your PC. It cured all of my problems and was able to use this program to unbrick my phone.

For those who don't know, matt whipped this up for us when I bricked my BIONIC proving that .235 was a one way street. I never did thank him for his efforts on our (and specifically my) part, so I am thanking the post now and making a public comment doing that.
Thanks, matt! And now, thanks to your work with the RAZRs, the BIONIC users now have Sam's HoB to boot. Bravo!

Thanks all
Great thanks also to samurihl, johnlgalt, john2007 and matllgroff also everybody on all forums

Didn't notice that after i got samurihl's reinstall 235, all i have to just put my previous update 235 blur rom that i'd flashed before to my bionic.. i thought i need to put different and specific rom from samurihl's HoB file.
Right after i'd tried, no failed sign verification found and the recovery re update all system back again to my 235 before brick
Now i'd already install 242 from HoB file too. So much thanks and appreciated ur help and guidance to newbie like me sir, great forums also i've been found during my searching of problem...

Hi all,
prior to any comment, yes, i know there are already posts on this issue, however looking through them didn't help at all unfortunately.
I have a Moto Milestone, origin is Israel.
somewhere along the way i've updated the bootloader to 90.78 and since then - the phone is stuck in the notorious loop and cannot restart the OS.
Tried already to reflash the phone without luck using RSD Lite (downloaded the SBF through http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone - the 'official' Cellcom IL SBF that was there...)
anyway - i can still access the bootloader which tells me the phone is not fully bricked, however i can't seem to find any proper SBF so it'll reflash itself back to an operative state.
One major problem here - the phone won't get into recovery mode (i've tried all the combinations i know and that have worked before)
i've also read about wiping the cache and user data however - as far as i know, this can only be done by entering the recovery mode, right?
one last resort i've tried - trying to split the SBF and reconstructing it - still no joy.
does anyone here have any advice or solution o this issue? what kind of SBF do i need? how to manually reconstruct the SBF with proper files? etc.
Thanks in advance,
Tomer
Have you tried loooking into fastboot?
Sometimes a phone wont respond to to adb commands and the recovery is corrupted, but you can still flash partitions using fastboot. I "saved" a Moto dext in this fashion once. Cant remember the exact commands, but it was similar to the adb flash commands. I reflashed the recovery partition and then used recovery to flash a ROM in update.zip format. For some reason RSD lite was failing on this phone.
Just something you may want to look into if you are desperate about saving your MS.

Hi Caz666,
well, thought this might actually work, but had no luck.
when i try to flash my phone it does nothing other than showing me 'downloading boot.img' and thats it.
is there anything else to do in order to save my phone? i really like it
I'm also willing to donate through PayPal to anyone who can describe any working method or that can point me to any valid working process...
thanks again.

I'm quite sure they're installed properly as i managed to upgrade my bootloader version using the RSDlite.
my system is 32 bits and the drivers are the ones i installed throught the Motorola website. I've first used RSDlite 4.6 but after reading a bit I understood there are some differences between versions hence upgraded to 4.9.

Try the 90.78ch bootloader from http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone ...
"XT702 variant of the 90.78 bootloader (notes from 90.78 apply here too).
It's reported to work on the A853 too. "
You've got nothing to loose on trying this. Let me know!

I'm now on 90.78ch and see no difference whatsoever.
I've now started investigating how to re-compile an older SBF file so it'll contain the new RAMDL
(I want to flash the Brazilian version however it contains only 90.74 RAMDL)
I've compiled a new file, however the checksum is incorrect.
How it is possible to recompile this properly?
Already tried the website, the mirror there is no leading to the bootloader itself but to a wiki site.
i've tried searching almost anywhere i know, but this bootloader is non available to download.
if there's another mirror site such as rapidshare or megaupload - i'd be happy to be pointed towards it..

You locked yourself out by upgrading the bootloader to the latest one.
Neither downgrade of bootloader would be possible, nor flashing older firmware SBF's.
Apart from that the milestone uses signature check on certain parts of the firmware. I really doubt that it's possible to tweak/recompile a complete SBF.
Something worth to try, is to flash vulnerable recovery SBF from within bootloader mode using RSDlite.
Here's the link to gitorious: http://gitorious.org/droid/openrecovery/blobs/master/zips/SHOLS/vulnerable_recovery.sbf
If the link does not work for you, there are also some mirrors of this file floating around. Just search!
I guess this should work, because the recovery SBF is using RAMLDR 90.78 (do know about the sign check during flash, but i guess checksum should be O.K.).
With vulnerable recovery properly installed, you might then use OpenRecovery to check your system and restore to some working state.
Good luck!

Thanks Scholbert for the detailed answer.
the link you gave directs to an image the RSDlite cannot flash (=error validating image).
If your interntion was that I'm supposed to flash the vulnerable recovery only, than bad news - It's already 'installed' on my device (and it shows no error whatsoever during this installation..)
Well, thanks again for trying to help, I think I'm officially out of suggestions or options here unless anyone can give further advice...

No, never did (since the upgrade)
If I had access to the recovery i would have at least managed to install OpenRecovery or something and manage to reflash the device

Did you try to fastboot flash only the boot.img? What about recovery? I seem to remember flashing a recovery.img on the dext...but this was last year. I may be wrong but i believe i flashed only a recovery image and then was able to access the recovery (which would allow all sorts of additional goodies).
I find it strange that fastboot reports only downloading. I seem to remember some error messages and timeouts?

Nope.
trying to flash the recovery / boot images only results in the message 'downloading...' and nothing (waited for like 3 hours..)
when I terminate the action by Ctrl+C and then trying again - the message is instantly 'FAILED..' along with specification that the action of sending the command has failed.
I'm literaly out of ideas, don't know what to do..

I am starting to think that there is something wrong with your device (like broken hardware).
In all my experimenting with rsd/fastboot, i did not once get a "hang". I would get checksum/signature errors, size errors, etc...but i always got some type of error code or status.
This is on 3 different Mot devices that run Android.
Sorry

The device was working fine before upgrading the bootloader, so it seems that this is not a hardware issue.
Either way - guess i'll be taking it to a lab and let them figure this out..

Attached. Enjoy
AS of 8/18 - You can download this directly from moto by checking settings>about phone>system updates
D4 6.16.217 ICS Leak files. Download and open the zip to find the update file, boot.img (named ICSFIX) and the crc. If too many of you jump on this at once the host my go down. Be great if someone could mirror. I have a very slow dsl upload speed here and no 4g. Took about 3 hours just to get this up.
D4 6.16.217.zip - 366.95 MB
If you using the the ICS only tool, then just add the ICSFIX.img to the files folder. Be sure you have the update zip on your sdcard or both the update zip and the crc in your cache.
Please note this is not a full rom. It must be installed over stock GB or if you are on a ICS leak using a jump method to install. The shortest method I know of is to flash in fastboot the GB system file, the preinstall, then the boot.img for the ICS leak and then in stock recovery the update zip.
I will install it when I get home tonight

FYI - I was getting some weird installation messages about not being able to mount my userdata partition, I performed factory reset through the recovery, then rebooted and everything was resolved.
I think it was something like error code 7, can't remember exactly although it looked similar to this:
Code:
Installing update...
assert failed: mount("ext3", "MTD", "userdata", "/data")
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Yep, successfully installed - don`t see any difference yet.
So far so good... Don't notice much of a difference, but it's only been a few hours...
BTW, since I lost root I figured I might as well confirm (from my thread in the general forum from a while ago), it does default to the interactive governor instead of hotplug. I'm not sure how large a difference this makes in battery life though.
Yeah you have to reroot, but it works just fine still.

I have a D4 but I have not done any modding on it other than installing AOKP through recovery. The person I got it from had already flashed an ICS leak. Forgive my ignorance but I am unclear on some things surrounding the D4. Can I install this through CWM or does it need to be done with some other utility? I am also unclear on what leaks provided working voice and data on gsm. If possible can anyone confirm that this leak will allow me to use the D4 on GSM 850 and 1900? Thanks in advance.
Edit: So I reread the OP and I will try to get this running on the ICS tool, but if anyone can address my question about gsm bands, I would still appreciate it.

I got it running from the start. Did you use jsnweitzel's tool? Alle you need to do is replace the \Droid4 ICS Only\files\ICSFIX.img with the one from the zipfile. Place the 219/217~crc and 219/217~zip on your SD and you should be ready to go.
At least four other users succeeded. So nobody's wasting time here.

Really, maybe if you let us know what trouble you had we could help instead of attacking. This is also posted over at droidfroums.net with a couple of mirrors. Just counting my hosting site this has 127 downloads.
This is not a full rom but a patch to stock GB. I edited the op with a little more information. Those of us that have went from one leak to another already know this.

Next time, try to factory reset then reboot and try to reapply the update.
Can you install/upgrade to ICS straight to .217 or do you need to install .215 then update with .217?
The page that the link from the ICS Tool thread links to only goes up to .215 for install/upgrading from GB
If you are on stock GB you can go straight to ICS 217. ICS 215 was the current leak when I wrote the ics only tool.

still trying to figure out what exactly FXZ means and whether its a good way to basically fix your phone regardless of what you may have done to it. Will this allow me to change my borked stock rom and rom slot 1 running aosp to just nullify everything and get stock jellybean back onto my bionic? And if so, what are the instructions to do so, (ive never used RSD)
How do I flash this? Does it matter what firmware my phone is on? I know I'm not on the update path. Pretty much I rooted and loaded a Custom ROM for my bros Bionic. But now I want the new JB for his phone ...

I'm one of the unlucky ones who got stuck in an "Encryption Unsuccessful" loop because of Bootstrap. will flashing this save the day and return me to stock?

Not sure how you guys do it.. And even though this release doesn't benefit me whatsoever (I just happened to come across this thread).. Thank you for all you and your crew (mysteriously) do.

I'm not sure anyone actually knows what "fxz" means.. Flashable XML Zip... Lol.. Maybe..
But, yes, you can use RSDLite (for Windows only) - make sure you have your moto drivers installed on your computer - extract the zip close to C:\ with no spaces in your path - point RSD to the .xml file in the extracted folder - boot in to fastboot mode (power + vol. down probably, if like my moto) - connect USB and make sure your phone is recognized - and hit go..
Or you can flash those files with moto-fastboot (some with just fastboot).. Make a .bat file or .sh script.. See mine here for an example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36834775&postcount=108 - WARNING NOTE: If you try to use my files for the A2, you MUST first cross check the partitions and file names in my .bat and the .xml from the FXZ package - and edit the .bat as necessary for your device.
Letting RSD run the xml will wipe/flash everything, usually including bootloader - back to stock ota jb - in theory... YOU WILL ALSO LOOSE ROOT! (so, hope you have a root method for JB).. Or it could possibly brick your phone if it's not the correct firmware/region, or if trying to downgrade.. See my batch file that flashes system.img only for borked systems - but, yea, this could all be pointless, or for emergency situations only - until you have a way to re-gain root.
Check out the Atrix 2 forum.. We have a lot of experience with the FXZs..

Yes it will. I did the same thing. I initially failed on Step 5. I had to extract the zip file and modify the XML removing the fb_mode_set and fb_mode_clear lines (See http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/1107-fix-unknown-fastboot-command-oem-phone-connected/).
yep, it worked for me, too. too bad we lost root. I'll keep my fingers crossed for an exploit to be discovered.

My question is this, If I bricked my phone tring to go back to ICS after JB update could I use the 4.1.2 file with RSD light to fix phone to JB? or is this only to flash from ICS to JB if you had some thing wrong with ICS install and JB would not take OTA? Thanks for all the work getting these files up though!
I get "Failed flashing process. 5/24 oem fb_mode_set -> Phone returned FAIL"
Any ideas?

Firmware Team is dedicated to releasing full official FXZ packages from Motorola. This is far from just a ROM. This completely reflashes the device to a pristine factory state.
No Internal Memory
I edited the lines as directed and flashed the update with RSD Lite and the phone works like it is supposed to, but now I can't access the internal memory. I tried to format it like the phone suggested and then it wouldn't recognize any of the memory cards - I think it erased e: drive. So I reflashed it and now I don't get the message to format it, but it won't show up in Windows... my 32GB external SD card shows up, but not the internal memory.
It looks like I don't have permission to access the internal memory. Any suggestions on how to do this with no root?
Thanks.

I think in a different thread someone mentioned that after a couple different boots it may show back up?
another phone, another dilemma. I don't know exactly what happened. The events that led me here are too long to describe and I don't want to bore anybody. I'm stuck at the Encryption unsuccessful loop and I still have no idea how to get out of it. Any help to get me out of this and back to working again would be extremely appreciated.
I've been trying for months now since we first got jelly bean but I keep getting errors using rsd lite.......is there no way to force rsd lite to flash jelly bean onto my phone?.

4.1.2 flash failure after CM 10.1.3
After finally getting my Bionic 4.1.2 rooted I was anxious to install a custom rom. I chose CM 10....
It blackscreened on me. So I decided to RSD back to 4.1.2 and got the "flash failure". I'm completely stuck....unable to flash anything. I need HELP.
I flashed my bionic to get 3g with pageplus. Will this FXZ file return my radio back to the factory 4g LTE state?
This scripted tool (Windows Only!) I have written and packaged will allow you to return back to the stock OTA path from ANY single ROM (stock or custom) you might be running or even if your device is soft bricked at the moment (without even requiring RSD Lite).
Download the zip file: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23487008491965516
Unpack the zip file to your PC
Install Motorola Drivers First!
Then run the TOOL file and follow the instructions to guide you
I have also included some screenshots and an Emergency Fix in case you are stuck in Fastboot for whatever reason and need to restore back to stock and then continue the tool (automatically continues from the fix).
WARNING THIS WILL COMPLETELY WIPE ALL DATA INCLUDING YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE!
MAKE SURE TO BACKUP EVERYTHING YOU NEED BEFORE USING THE TOOL OR THE EMERGENCY FIX!
The emergency utility was able to get me out of my soft brick. Thank you sir!

Does it works on xt925 ?
Thanks.

It does, the emergency will flash an XT926 firmware, might have to change internal files I guess. It did got me out of a flash failure then could get back into fastboot and then flash my Telcel firmware for my XT925.
Is this for XT925?! Is this the first thing i have to do to get Kit Kat official leaked last week?

i have seen some lazy people, but i must say you take the cake.
this thread was 4 hole post long before you posted. 2 of which, asked and answered your exact first question.
no self respecting person is going to help you, when you cant even read a 4 post long thread before asking a question in it.

Just wanted to thank you for creating this tool, man. The Emergency Fix really saved my skin from a soft brick.
Pretty sure this utility has bricked my phone. I was on 4.1.2 and was rooted and tried using the utility to return to stock. After the utility completed it gets stuck on the AP fastboot menu and it says Boot Failure. Any ideas to fix it?
Nice to know it.

Hello,
Could you please write in big red letters in the beginning of your post : "ONLY FOR XT926, Do not use it for XT925" ?
Thank you

Took me over 6 hours to fix it. I finally found this post and it worked. I had to sign up for their forum, but it was worth it.
