My suggestion would be stock gingerbread with speedmod kernel k2-12, i used to get around 4 days with normal use.
That sounds nice. Do you have heavy use of yout phone? Or only deep sleep all the time?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I use it for playing games, little music, calls and messaging. Sometimes connect to Wi-fi. With the same in ICS i get around 2 days.
okay thank you i´ll try. :fingers-crossed:
to set expectations straight, expect thought about 4.5 hours nonstop usage on gb with speedmod kernel.
4 hours on ics with speedmod
alk stock dont expect more then 3 to 3.5 hours.
you only get 2 days if you dont synch, barely use phone and are in good reception area with data switched off always.
Note general tips which can be found in the 10000plus threads about battery drain and how to analyse deepsleep issues

I don't know whether you like gingerbread roms or not , but till date the rom with which I got maximum battery backup with modeate to heavy usage was CheckRom Revo HD V6. This rom never lags , best battery life , and good speed .
If you are Gingerbread hater and ICS lover , then you can try Rocketrom v7( very good battery life with the included kernel , and would be much better with Speedmod Kernel (latest version) ). And then you have CleaNote V2.30 ( V3.0 has bluetooth glitches but its faster , if you are bluetooth user i would suggest you to stick with V2.30 ) , I personally love CleaNote because it has stock look and very fluidic :good: and as the tagline says 'You dont want any theme forced down to your throat '. KingDroid are good at speed but many have reported few glitches with it , you may try it if you like ( I dont like KingDroid , its sth personal ). If you hate Samsung's bloatware then we have Cassie's XtraLite rom for your rescue :cyclops:. Its a good rom too .
Well finally to end , I use cyanogenmod 9 and i update it everyday and with each update it gets more fluid and responsive, fast , smooth . i just love cyanogenmod9 ( waiting for cm10 ).
ParanoidAndroid are for ppl who love fun , who want to showoff their phone , the ability of their phone , the sweet hybrid interface of their phone , its for geeks :-0 .
Make a choice or try all of them :good::good:

I am using CLASSIC V1+15 toggle with MOD V1 which is ICS 4.0.4, and I also updated kernel to chainfire LRG, which is more stable and smooth, battery life is excellent comparatively to all other ROMs so far.
Which is around 4% drain per hour, I have (facebook, wechat, LINE, mitalk, whatsapp, email, exchange service, maps, mixed chinese input, make your own clock) running and leaving it on idle.

For the past 2 years of beeing a S galaxy user, I've quite looked for best battery life at top performance. Most of the time, battery life is no longer measured in "days" of usage , like we used to do with our Nokia phones. Nowadays, you ten to look at display (screen on) time , CPU profiles, and also connectivity patterns.
You can think of battery life as a factor of the above mentioned, however I think that display time is the most important parameter related to battery life. CPU profiles, connectivity, tend to work only when you have your screen on, and from my experience, you tend not to extend your usage time by more than 10-20%.
So as a conclusion, I did not expect a specific rom / kernel configuration to offer more "screen on" time but to offer a more faster way to do my tasks therefore I did more tasks in almost the same display time.
At the end of the day, it is more important how you USE your device rather than finding a "magical" combination that will increase your battery life.
KID + SpeedMod
+1 for GB (i was using checkrom but i'm sure any gb rom will give similar effects) with Speedmod.
If you make setcpu to 200mhz on screen off, i find it uses almost no power at all when it's on standby.
Like it was on 77% when i went to bed.
Woke up in the morning and it was on 78% (i was like lolwut).
Yay for setcpu.
But seriously though, any GB rom will give you considerably more battery life than any ics rom.

yeah mike made a 2.1 rom with bfs and all kinds of other stuff but it does not have root or jit
The best rom that has a great battery life is 2.1.
As our phone is getting older and older (I have it since 9/2010), also battery is getting weaker. So, I want to stick to a 2.1 ROM and want your advices. Besides battery performance, important for me are: stable wifi and fast gps lock. thx for reading : )
I forgot to mention: I want your advice on which 2.1 ROM I should use?
Yes, stock 2.1 Eclair is the absolute winner in terms of battery life. I remember I had 4 days with normal usage, good old times
yep using it now (well no really stock v20e light version by miro) watch 2 hrs of video nonstop still above 97

So is the ROM you are using, the best 2.1 ROM in your opinion? I was using greendroid for 3-4 days, great battery life, but I saw wifi disconnecting after some time and keep saying: obtaining address...
Did you use a 2.2 ROM coming close to the 2.1 in battery performance? (Only flash support is pushing me not to go back to 2.1)
Well in my experience any 2.3 ROM can last 2 days if overclock is under 700MHz, brightness about 50%, use 2G only when not going on internet etc. With 2.2 ROMs you can get even more battery life, and with 2.1 the most. It depend how much you need.
Project utopia is the most stable fastest 2.2 I have ever used very similar to 2.1
Now I can also highly recommend SDSL prefinal, now I'm on 50% battey after 3 days of use! (it just passed the 3day mark). All this with low-mid usage, so I think this is also awesome from a 2.3 rom!
And I use 122-806MHz with smartassv2 governor, so if you don't OC at all, you can reach even higher battery lifetime! I'm curious whether can I reach the magic 4 days of constant use on GB.
good luck to you maybe screen off set to 480-122 smartassv2

For better battery and stability use SpeedMod 3-3.
kernel and modem combination.
speedmod k3-3 and lb2 modem works fine for me.

Do you have to root the phone first?

notecore is stable and give a day long battery and gives you custom bootanimation+15 toggle+call recording and much more.it is double check for emmc brick.
speedmod is superstable and give a good battery life and gives you custom bootanimation+15 toggle+call recording and kills useless things.
NOTE-1. Dont use oc as it will heat up your device, better to go for std.
2. downgrade to pre-rroted gb rom, dont take a risk although they are safe to wipe, but still first downgrade.
Both the kernels give you better battery life
But for me its Notecore
Hello,
I made a lot of tests.
today, here is my config :
samsung ICS DDLPA. rooted, with kernel SpeedMod K3-11.
with stock kernel, I had good battery life.
with SpedMod kernel, I have better battery life.... when Note is sleeping.
I also had installed Lightning launcher. is better or not ? difficult to tell the difference it is slitghly the same.
to be honest, when I read a movie, listen music, go on internet, it use a lot of battery... which seem to be normal.
today, with medium use, I can have 3 days of battery.
with more use of the note, I have 2 days of battery.
Medium use is : no video, New republic (RSS reader) for around 1 hour, several SMS, some phone call, Internet (around 30 minute), one or 2 time google play, 1 hour reading an ebook in the night (black background, white text)
more use : Add Music, more internet, time spend in tweak the parameter of my launcher.
without SpeeMod kernel, I could lose around 15% to 20% of time listed above. no much.
I hope it helps.
Olivier
The latest speedmod is the best kernel for the battery...
I just tried speedmod and while listening to music via bluetooth and playing solitaire, my battery drains 4% per 10 min.
It's this normal?

bluetooth drains like crazy, as well as playing games, so yeah. Youre better of using normal wire headset.
4% per ten minutes is 24% per hour, so approx 4 hours screen on time is actually pretty good, very good even. Cant believe that with bluetooth on.

I tried a nightly cyanogen mod ( cm-7-20120701-NIGHTLY-p970 ) , and battery last a much more time, but this rom is not stable enough.
Everybody is awaiting here for ICS rom from LG and hoping that battery draining would be reduced.

Interesting, on a stock 2.2 my Black needed daily charging and just for the night alone drained about 20% of a battery. Since I'm on Zeus, my phone can last 3-4 days (same usage as on stock) and uses about 3-4% of battery in the night :good:.

I also wonder how do people get so good battery with Zeus v6.37 and such a low battery drain during the night, have you touched at something in ZeusTweaker since you installed it?
And another question: I didn't touch anything but I see that many people talk about DVFS, what is it actually and what is more recommend: to enable or disable it?

I also tried Optimus Max Rom V2, battery lasts a bit longer but still not good. I havent tried Zeus yet but maybe il try using it and see how the battery goes.
ive always gotten the best battery life from zeus.... and also lemmings is coming in 2nd for me

From all the posts the conslusion is only one: all of them lol.
The best rom for battery life is the one that's switched off..... I can get two weeks off a single charge.....
just sayin...
fact 2.2 is very good if you mean battery drain, but 2.3 is better as system and in my opinion better choice is Optimus Max , cause he based on stock rom. I use it daily long time. I used many roms and I still prefere Optimus max . My battery keep live about two days in normal using ( many time in net ) - but sometimes it is one day . But on this rom I have not any suprises.

Alternatively you could take the overclocked NoteCore kernel and underclock it.
The kernel is undervolted, so disabling higher processor frequencies will give you the benefits of undervolting and the benefits of underclocking.
I.e. low power consumption and low temperature.

Its not a 4.0.4 LRK issue. I was running a rooted stock build and installed NoteCore kernel without any issues. When I flashed Rocket V10 it was only then that the battery life became crippling. Shame, I love Rocket and the tweaks but guess I'll go back to stock!

Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Take a look at the NoteCore thread in the development section for the undervolt details.
The overclocked kernel is undervolted.
Install the overclocked kernel then use something like Tegrak to limit the processor frequency to 1400 or 1200 then you will get the reduced battery drain of using lower voltages and lower frequencies on your processor.
Don't change the undervolting set in the overclocked kernel add this had been optimised.

I don't think it's the kernel's fault for the battery drain.. I think it's the modem..

Yep, definitely faced the same problem, which was the reason I switched to Classic Rom V4 (because of the newest firmware) but actually, though battery life is better, it is still worse than with AlBA v4...I haven't been able to determine whats behind it...

2nd of RR10 with NoteCore 13. The screen-on drainage improved. I read my whole travel time (around 1.5hr) on newspaper via 3G signal, and the battery went from 100% to 81-82%, which is acceptable for me.
Again, Deep sleep works perfectly.
I left this good rom because of this, deep sleep ok, but when the screen is on, too heavy battery drain. same with 2 kernels, should be another reason.

I tried with notecore and speedmod. I have used RR10 about 3 days to have several battery cycles. but I felt a big battery drain when using the note, even at low brightness, with nothing strange in CPUspy or BetterBatteryStats.
so I switched to JB liquid. Yesterday night. I would not say it is better for the moment to be honest. New rom, new kernel, not even a beta, so hard to compare, but you are right I feel the same today: high drain with screen on.
(but whatever the battery drain, with palm rejection available on CM9/10, I will switch again to a sammy rom)
I really cant seem to find a way to lower the screen on battery drain , its ,horrible ,
been on latest std notecore and speedmod , and with both i cant seem to get more than 2:00 - 2:30 hours of screen on time & basic use (in total of 10 - 12 hours ) , deep sleep is perfectly fine with 1% loss per hour (sometimes even less !!) , but with the screen on , battery just goes bursting -1% per minute........
we do need our devices to be used , not rested on deepsleep the whole time , otherwise this defies the whole concept of a "smartphone"....
on GB it was very good ,it got worse when Samsung introduced ICS (but was manageable) , but now on 4.0.4 , its just horrible and unacceptable!!! dunno what kind of testing Samsung does before rolling out an update...
sorry for the whole rant and rage post in there , had to speak it out cos im struggling here..
would be highly appreciated if someone can help or a suggest a 4.0.4 rom with a "reasonable" screen on drain... im even considering going back to RRv7 (4.0.3) cos as far as i remember i was getting good battery out of it (deep sleeping and screen on was great there)

Why have ICS Roms so better battery results then JB?
firstly they are leaks.. not an official rom so not that optimized. I have been on XXLSA and i get 1.5 hrs of mod use.. and was same on ICS as well.. so i dint find much of a difference

lol, depends on definition of usage. Some like off the charger.
I prefer unused state:max standby and comparison full use of screen. both with being registered (on good reception) mobile network and multiple email accounts with push.
Jb gives me the feeling its better. Could be placebo.
I have broken my 5 hour full screen on time without degrading functionality. I am on 6,5, but with a inverted ereader.(so yes I cheated) Its not really representative, cause full browsing still is 4,5. On a new battery that is and wifi/mobile connectivity.
