Rooting/Flashing CM7 without USB Connectivity - HTC Incredible S

Hi all,
My USB port has recently broken (no charge, no pc connectivity, nothing) and I have been using an external battery charger to keep it going. My phone is un-rooted, s-on and hboot-2.02.002. I am on ICS 4.0.4 but I really want to flash Cyanogenmod7. I was wondering if there was an apk similar to gingerbreak to root my phone and install custom recovery, or failing that, some way to install cm7 without root.
Thanks, Jake.

I can't imagine that this could work, you need at first unlock via HTC dev, just works via usb. Than you need downgrade via USB. Than flash a s off boootloader you need USB and at least flash a recovery you need USB...

To summarize; you need a USB connection.

Phone going back to factory...

So my hero is acting weird my usb is messed up in a way that cant transfer files to my sd card. I want it to go back to the official unrooted version. Now if im gonna use the ruu which i understand have to run from my computer my concern is that nothing will work since i cant transfer anything thru usb. Is there anything flashable maybe?

Have you tried using a USB cord from another phone/device? Any mini-USB cord should fit into the Hero port and would probably work.
See this image: http://www.meditronik.com.pl/doc/mini/usb-kabel-mini=foto=canon.jpg
Those fit and most work with the Hero (all that I've tried so far do), at least for charging they work. Not sure about USB file transfer, but try it out.
yeah i did that but didnt work besides i think i have other issues with it... speaker mic thats why i want to return it

Quick answer is no, you can't flash the stock RUU. At least, that is my understanding....
so how about if i install a custom 1.5 rom... will the over the air update work then to unroot my phone?
First off, is your phone charging at all? If it is then it's not your usb cable, could have a corrupted sd card. Also if it's charging you can ruu back to stock.

[Q] Unlock Bootloader w/ no USB Access

Hey guys... first post here.
I'm trying to root my N1 with 2.3.3 following a few different guides...
My issue is that my micro usb is dead and I can't charge or transfer data through it. I can easily transfer files to my sd via the card reader or wifi though. Is there anyway to unlock the bootloader other than through fastboot? Such as an app or transferring a file to the card? ADBwireless was suggested but I obviously can't use it without root access. ANY suggestions would be appreciated.
Nope, you need fastboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 Z4Root seems to do the job, I googled and there were a couple of reports of success.
Don't quote me on it though, do your own research.
Thanks. That will give me a lead to work off of. I don't want to give up hope yet.
I don't think z4 will work on 2.3.3, but you can passimg back to an earlier android version and use it...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Correct, I couldn't get z4root to work. Can you passimg not using USB somehow? If so could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks again.
Download a shipped ROM, like FRG33 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One/Roms
Rename to passimg.zip, place on the root of your SD (not in any folder), and boot into the bootloader. I'm pretty sure you only need volume keys to complete the install...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Ok, that worked great... Z4 then worked to get root access. Now I have the phone connected to the computer via ADB Wireless... Its definently connected when I check "adb devices".... but when I typed "Fastboot oem unlock" it says waiting on device. Anyone have any idea what the next step is?
The phone needs to be on the fastboot screen of the bootloader, so I'm not sure your wireless adb access will work for fastboot commands...
Why unlock if you're rooted?

Semi brick. Need help

Basically I've screwed over my phone.
It WILL boot. However I can't get it to go into USB mode.
I'm on Android 2.3.5 and I have this rom installed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779290
When I try to flash from a backup, it fails flashing system and renders my phone a brick until I reinstall the above ROM
I've also tried going into download mode so I can use the official LG updater to flash it back completely stock. However I can't seem to get that working.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First you are posting in the wrong section.
Second, what baseband do you have installed. I am running on a Froyo baseband and can't run thrillseeker due to the baseband requiring the GB baseband. You can probably return to stock by using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491870
From what I am reading, the LG Updater sometimes will fail but you just have to continue using it.
Good luck with your issue. I am planning to do the same to my nephews phone later today. If i can figure something out I will post back.
I think its V20P which is Gingerbread. I know when I last updated it I used the official updating tool and grabbed it from their server. But again I'm on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Will those update.zip files work?

Yea it charges but that's it.
Luckily I have SwiFTP installed on my phone so I can still transfer things back and fourth between my phone and PC over my home network via FTP. Just much, MUCH slower.
EDIT: I just realized why this was in the wrong section. I TOTALLY thought I was posting in the general forum. Sorry. *derp*
Bump
First thing uninstall LG PC drivers then reboot PC and reinstall them. Or try to connect to a different PC to make sure it is not PC related. If that doesn't work then try wiping caches and instsall a different kernel. If that doesn't work I would then try full data wipe and reinstall rom of choice. You might try different rom as once its fixed you can always flash back...hope this helps you.

Well I believe I've figured out what the problem was.
You see the other day while I was charging the phone I accidentally knocked it off. The USB cable got caught on my alarm clock and caught the phone, so the phone was hanging by the USB cable.
Well today I looked at the connector on it and I noticed it was bent a little. So I bent it back up and heard a small *click*
I was afraid I had broke it completely inside. However when I plugged it in my computer recognized my phone and USB mode showed up.

erm s-off can only be given via the xtc clip unless it has proper support from other developers else where.
yes it can....if you have done your bootloader then don't bother.
if you haven't done your bootloader and s-off u will require the bootloader to be unlocked afterwards...good luck.
as for temple run it will never run on this phone!
if this is all your wanting it for give up now!
Don't need soff just unlock bootloader from HTC site. Then can install custom Rom or fix low memory problems.ie:data2sd and bigbearevorom. Search and read development thread. Much better phone once unlocked.

erm with great difficulty. u maybe be able to root the device without usb ie uploading to the sdcard, but it may not work. USB is predominantly the norm and hasn't be tested fully any other way.
U will need a recovery installed to access the dta2sd script. as of yet the only working way is via USB to install recovery. I have personally tried many ways when we first got this handset. How did it brake? how did u fix? If the usb was faulty i would have repair shopped it myself. Also u require Unlocking of boot-loader
Summary
Unlocking of Bootloader >USB Only
Install Recovery >USB
Root >USB (possible Uploading a file to sdcard, but would need specialist program to Root the device)
Even if u got root with an external source, you couldn't have extra memory without the above!
maybe z4root works in salsa. you can test it if you want.

problems with drivers

My device:
Android 2.2
P1000xxjma
Froyo.xwjmi
I can't connect my device to a computer. I have tried with Kies installed and also installed a driverpack I found. The computer just says it can't recognize the device. I am using a usb cable from a galaxy tab 10.1 but that can be the problem, or can it?
I have rooted the device and app root checker says it's rooted correctly. And my problem is that I can't get cwm recovery into it. I have a new rom from cm on SD card but can't flash it because of cwm isn't installed. I need the computer to find the device to be able to get cwm into it with Odin.
Can someone please help me with this problem? Thankful for any help or suggestions. Excuse if my English as misspellings.
Regards
Christian
Yes, likely you need original cable.
And since you are rooted, check if you have protected bootloader.
Read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071
post #2 about SGTBootloaderCheck
I have unlock the bootloader successfully.
Is there any other way to get cwm into the device other than using Odin, or can it be done without cwm? I have a 4.3 cm rom and googleapp pack on sdcard.
Christian.
You can use heimdall. But you still need the correct cable.

Okey, so either way I need the correct cable then.
I looked and the cable for galaxy tab 10.1 should work for galaxy tab aswell. I wonder what is wrong here. But I will try to get a original cable to try with.

Well if you want to do that, you'll need to upgrade to gingerbread first. And to do that you need to be able to connect to your pc, no way around that.
