Hi,
Any experience of using US version of Nexus 7 in India? Everything works fine? I heard many apps disappeared and some other Play Store problems when US version was used in some other countries, any such experience specifically in India?
Thanks.

Anyone??

I am using nexus7 since last week. I purchased it from UK. Its a good little device. I activated it after reaching India. I didn't get any free play store credit. Also there was neither Google books nor movies app and widget in my nexus. I tried installing apk of Google books but I received a message that its already installed. Couple of days back I formatted it and then activated it by using UK vpn. Then I got option of using play store credit. I also got Google books n transformer movie. However when I deactivated my VPN , movies app disappeared even though Google books remained. Anyway most important thing is that it has got international warranty. I spoke to Asus India and they asked for serial number of nexus 7 and after that they confirmed that nexus 7 has international warranty which is valid in India.

I ordered mine from Purenexus, it's an eshop on Facebook. Was delivered within 10 days of placing the order. Great service! Highly recommended.

Me also ordered it yesterday!!
Good to know that it was delivered within 10 days!! waiting anxiously for mine!! 16GB one!

how much it cost to u?? are there any custom duty charges when u bring it from uk to india ??

Nexus 7 FAQ

I've noticed the same questions get asked over and over again, so I thought a main post with the answers to the most common questions would be helpful.
1. Should I buy the Nexus 7?
Hell to the yes.
2. Will I still get the $25 credit if I didn't order from the Play Store?
Yes, you will. It is not dependent on what store you ordered it from. The first account that is logged in to the Nexus will be credited the money. I cannot confirm how long this promotion will last, or whether or not it will only be given to people who preordered.
3. When will I receive my Nexus 7?
GameStop has officially released the Nexus 7 to those who preordered with them. Google Play orders also started shipping as of July 13th. Ebuyer shipments have been released as well in the UK.
4. Does the Nexus 7 support MHL?
No, as confirmed by Engadget.
5. Does the Nexus 7 support USB-OTG?
Yes, but unfortunately mounting USB storage natively is not supported. However, it is possible with a root. It does support USB-to-Ethernet and most keyboards/mice will work.
6. Are there any serious problems/defects with the Nexus 7?
Members have confirmed that some Nexus' have a flickering problem, especially when using Chrome, or with a white/gray color on the screen. Also, as confirmed by Android Police, there is a problem with ghosting, or image retention, but some have suggested that this is normal behavior for an IPS display. However, Google and Asus have not been able to recreate these issues independently, which suggests that these issues may only affect pre-production units from Google I/O and review units.
7. Does the Nexus 7's home screen rotate? Does the Nexus 7 have Tablet UI?
No, the home screen on the Nexus 7 does not natively rotate to landscape orientation as on past tablets with Honeycomb and ICS. It uses the more traditional Phone UI, with the pull-down notification tray. However, members have confirmed that with a root it is possible to change the DPI to 170 or 160, which allows the homescreen to rotate into landscape orientation, and also brings on a more Hybrid UI, which allows some elements of the UI run in tablet mode, but not all. (Thanks to nerfman100 for clarification)
8. Does the Nexus 7/Jelly Bean/Chrome support Flash?
Officially, Jelly Bean is not a supported OS by Adobe, and Flash will be taken off of the Play Store on August 15th. This in turn means that the Nexus 7 is not does not officially support Flash. However, many members have confirmed that Flash does work fine when installed on the Nexus 7, but bugs will be expected. Chrome, the default browser, does not support Flash.
9. Can I still cancel my preorder of the Nexus 7?
If you ordered from the Play Store, Google has confirmed that it is too late in the process for most to cancel the order, and will have to reject the package on arrival if they want a refund. It has been suggested that this is only for people who ordered prior to July 1st, but this cannot be confirmed. Most other retailers are allowing cancellations at this point.
10. Are there any good deals on the Nexus 7?
Some online, out of state retailers such as B&H and J&R are selling the Nexus 7 with little to no shipping and no tax. Your order can also be combined with coupons for these companies. If you would like to save on shipping and be able to turn in old games and electronics for credit, ordering from a local GameStop is recommended.
11. Can I buy the 8GB version anywhere other than the Play Store?
No, the 8GB Nexus 7 is a Play Store exclusive.
All of the answers are based on my own research and observations. If there is anything incorrect, missing, or something that should be added, please let me know!
This is a great idea. I knew most of this stuff but it is great info. Well done.
WindyCityRockr said:
7. Does the Nexus 7's home screen rotate? Does the Nexus 7 have Tablet UI?
No, the home screen on the Nexus 7 does not natively rotate, it is always in portrait orientation. This also means that there is no Tablet UI in Jelly Bean itself.

Please change this to mention the Hybrid UI. You see, certain elements of the UI run in tablet mode, but not all. And saying that the portrait-only launcher is the cause of the phone UI doesn't make much sense. It would be wise to rephrase that. :good:

It could possibly be different in the UK, but I have contacted GameStop, B&H and J&R about it, and they have all said that they are offering the same incentives as the Play Store. An official Google confirmation would be nice though.
If you want to know how Hybrid UI works, this G+ post by Dianne Hackborn is a very good read.

It was no question for me. Macmall let me use Amazon payments (keeping my cc info to as few a places as possible.) Linking in from fatwallet to macmall gave me 2.5% cash back and my cc gave me 1% so, ordering it from macmall got it for 240.29 after all is said and done with no tax and free shipping. Can't really beat that.

Just to clear up in-store stocking question:
PC World, Currys, Tesco, CPW and HMV all plan to carry Nexus 7 in store.
Problem is at the moment the are being deluged with web orders so are delaying roll out to stores until they have sufficient stock.
This should happen over the next couple of weeks as deliveries start catching up with demand.
Except Tesco Direct have in stock and will ship. They seem to have a shed load, its their second batch.

Me too. Staples. Followed the stock online and it is very accurate. When you see "not sold in this store", Just means they are out of stock. Keep checking and the same stores will change to "in stock." My store changed late saturday nite and showed in stock Sunday, I bought on Monday, they still had one for a guy on the phone while I was there, and Monday nite it changed to "not sold in this store."
Staples. Like the person above said, you can check in-store stock online. My local store had TWO 16GB ones in stock on Sunday when I checked, so I left immediately and got one
Staples is great. They get the nex7 in everyday on ups shipments. Seems like the average is 1-4 per store. Call around 10-11 and see if they have one.

I found mine at a micro center in my city(Kansas City). Checked online and they said they had 9 left. Called and they said they had 7 left. Then again the area that it was in was wealthier area. Pretty sure everyone in that area had iPads. They could care less about a $200 tablet

I initially tried the Staples route but there was only one store in Southern California that sold it (Pasadena). Must've annoyed the hell out of them calling everyday. They seem pretty clueless as to when they were expecting shipments.

Nexus 4: The Australian Thread

Hey Guys!
So the Nexus 4 has been released upon the masses with the first batch of the 16GB being sold out in 22 minutes and the 8GB being sold out a few hours later.
This thread will be a general area for Australian owners and potential owners to hang out, ask questions, get advice and get help quickly and within your time zone.
If anyone helps you or offers you advice don't forget to hit the ":good: Thanks" button in the bottom left corner of their post!
Please let me know if there's any important Australian specific information and I will put it here in the OP!
I'm buying one as soon as we are able to on the 13th. I purchased a nexus 7 on release day from the Google play store and received it 3 days after the funds were taken out of my bank account.
Generally they're pretty good with postage. I wouldn't trade my nexus 7 for anything!

Same here, really hope that it is going to be released 12am on the 13th which means we will may - if they start shipping that day - have our orders start to be processed before the US even has the option to order hehe..
That is provided they do something similar to the Nexus 7 launch but in a more organised manner. Which I believe is the case.
(ie. Send large amounts of stock to each country that is selling it, wait for them all to get to respective countries, open orders, all send on the same day worldwide.)
I'm getting 16gb model a few days after launch (pay day)
Do they come from an Australian retailer or do our orders get shipped from the US?
My SGS2 has been good to me. My girlfriend will love it! I just can't pass up paying $399 outright for a phone that on paper, is probably the best on the market? You couldn't pay less than $400 for any other phone on our market could you?

Someone in one of the other threads said that this will lauch with a bumper case for the nexus 4
I'm totally buying on the 13th, it just annoys me that I have to pay $40 more than in Canada, considering I've only been here for 2 months... WHY COULDN'T THEY RELEASE IT WITH THE NEXUS 7?!
I'm looking at upgrading from my Galaxy S1 to the Nexus 4 when it comes out. I really don't mind the lack of LTE since I'm on TPG (who don't give access to LTE anyway). I'm pretty sure they do give access to Optus HSPA+ though, which should give me a speed bump from my S1 anyhow.
The only thing I am unsure about is using the Nexus 4 as my main music player, which is one of the main things I use my S1 for, apart from the usual phone and mapping stuff. Registering (through an American proxy) for Google Music and uploading all my music seems like the easiest method of doing this, but I am worried whether all the music streaming I would do would chew through my 1.5GB data allowance per month. Can anyone speak to their experience with music streaming with their monthly data allowance? Any better methods than Google Music in Australia? I've tried Spotify and found they didn't really have all the music I would like to listen to, and their app was still Gingerbread styled... ew.
Another (minor) problem is travelling overseas and having music. Data is too costly if travelling, so I suppose I would be stuck using my S1 while travelling, which I would probably keep as a backup phone anyhow.
I'm going to get this in store rather than on the Play Store since I can't convince my parents to shop online so I'm hoping that JB Hi-Fi will sell this by the end of the month (Does anyone know if it will be in stores next week at all?). Otherwise, can anyone name any stores in Melbourne or Sydney that has a possibility of selling this?

How long do u guys think it will take until the nexus 4 stock for australia runs out? I am paranoid that it will run out when I get it (13 november evening) its probably not possible but im just paranoid :/

Does this $400 AUD include shipping and taxes?

Back In stock with Netflix offer at best buy?

Back in stock at best buy online and stores are getting shipments (two local stores to me have gotten two shipments of 5-10 each this week) - though they sold out within minutes..
But ordered from best buy and it still lists Netflix and on the order has Netflix listed as its own sku.
Hopefully it's still valid

Got my second one. Can't be this deal. 24 dollars on Netflix account is well worth it.
Sent from the TermiNOTEr 2!
I just got my 2nd one today from in store best buy and got another Netflix code.
Does anyone know if you can combine the codes for 6 months? It seems as though you would since the code says it applies credit to your account, so redeeming another code should just add more credit to the account.

Looks like it's no longer in stock online, but several of the stores around me have it. Considering picking some up for gifts.... better decide quickly XD

Thanks for the heads up.
even going into the store, some employees didn't know it came in. the door person said they didn't have any. the TV section guy said they didn't have any. walked by an aisle and saw a display of them.
if you're close enough, waste the gas to drive and check yourself.
