Keyboard - Nexus 7 Accessories

Anyone think getting a Bluetooth keyboard is necessary?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

I don't think its necessary but I don't type that much

i find typing with 2 thumbs to be pretty convenient, actually. if not the 1 finger dab works, haha.

Probably not, unless you truly despise tapping on a virtual keyboard to type. Besides, the JB keyboard on the Nexus 7 is pretty nice.

Awww in just thought it would look extra cool lol

I'm hoping someone rips off Microsoft's Surface Touch Cover/keyboard. Would be a nice compromise. While it's not a great keyboard since it has no key travel, it will avoid taking up screen real estate which is a nice upgrade over an onscreen keyboard. Would make it far more useful in a pinch as a terminal server client/remote support tool.

yes x100.
just tested my HP Touchpad bluetooth keyboard and it works great. no lag at all. just silly that the keyboard is bigger than the tablet. i could see it working great if you had to type stuff up on a plane or train or something. just need a case or something to prop the tablet up in landscape mode.

Try ICS keyboard, suits me better than any other keyboard

Smart Keyboard has an iPhone skin.
When I went from iPhone to the Samsung captivate I really liked smart keyboard. Now I really like the GB jey board...the only complaint I have with the ics keyboard is the lack of a caps lock.

That's weird... I tried a couple of the ICS ROMs and I didn't notice. Then again... I don't often type in all caps. Maybe Google is trying to do us all a favor (if you're right), hehe
If you mean locking on all caps, then all you have to do is quickly double tap the up arrow twice

Why the iPhone keyboard? I personally hate it, doesnt work for me. One of the main reasons i sold my 3GS and got a Sensation back in the days. I use SwiftKey X and Swype, best keyboards ever.

ICS keyboard for free,SwiftKey X for 2,99euro...
Slow down a bit haters. I hate apple and the iphone just as much as you folks. But I was an iphone guy at one point and. I. Have to admit the onscreen iphone kb is the best keyboard I have ever used. And I've tried them ALL. (currently using SwiftKey x) I was able to type on my iphone with my eyes closed.. Something I wasnt/still not able to do so far on my epic, evo and nexus. IMO gingerbread keyboard plus is as close as your going to get. The reason is because just like the iphone keyboard, you can remove the comma and period from your bottom row. Also the spacing between keys on the iphone keyboard is greater. Anywho, yes itap works. Be careful though. There's an iphone kb for android out there that logs your keystrokes :O

This is awsome now if we could only get the maxtylus mxts100 stylus to work on the tab it would be just perfecr. A captive stylus does not do it any justice.

I'll grant you that but it's flat and it works. At least as well as can be hoped for for units sans a digitizer.

hey nice find !
how does this sums up to Galaxy Note's S-Pen accuracy ? is there any review out there that compares between the two ?
I've used Note and S-Pen before and They work wonder on Note's 5.3" inch screen. Imagine how much better and real note-taking experience on 7.7" larger screen
The Galaxy Note actually has a Wacom digitizer built in. The S-Pen, as a result, is not using the capacitive layer of the screen at all, and no matter how well made, no capacitive screen is going to exceed the precision of a Wacom...
No matter how cleverly made the pen, the tracking precision of the capacitive screens themselves are the actual limit here - a much cheaper resistive screen is much better for taking notes or drawing, provided it has a high enough resolution...
Awesome app. Works very well. Just downloaded it. Thanks

Keyboard dock for Nexus 7

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had found a keyboard dock like the transformer prime for the nexus 7. Maybe without the track pad due to the smaller size of the device. I would like something with a hinge like a laptop.
Thanks!

I actually wouldn't mind one with a trackpad, but yeah if they make one like the Transformer, I would be very interested.

Well it won't let me post a url being a new member. So just search "nexus 7 keyboard dock"... There's sources say one is coming. Please update if you ever hear more. Thanks!
Yah, thanks. I've seen those, but what I would really want is a case that has a hard hinges like a laptop where the n7 would act as a simple screen, so I can have it on my knees without having to worry about having to make it sit on something. Hope you understood, I have difficulty explaining it.
Thanks again for your time.

I'm in the same boat. I got this tablet to help me with colege stuff and I'd really like to find a good keyboard case so I could just open it on the desk and start taking notes to the cloud and all that stuff. A fast, organized and secure way of taking lesson notes.
I got one of this USB keyboard cases from ebay and the keyboard isn't really good. I thing I can type faster with Swiftkey...

Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard Video Review!

Hey guys, I have appreciated the video reviews posted here so I thought I would do one myself. This video review is for the New Trent Bluetooth Keyboard with touch pad. Here is a link to the video review

And here is a link to the product on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-Mul...36&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=new+trent+ishuffle
My full written review is there as well. In short, its the best wireless keyboard I have used. Definitely worth the asking price of $55.
This is my first YouTube video, so there is much room for improvement. I plan on continuing to review various android hardware and accessories should you wish to subscribe. Let me know if you have ideas!
Great video review. Is the back part / empty plastic really just for the stand or are they hiding components in there? It kind of reduces from it's portability. Do they make that part of its plastic removable?
Have you tried it with the nexus 10? If so, does it sit well like the galaxy?
Nice review. Too bad about the home key. Get a sleeve case. I'be seen them at "5 Below", if you have that store. And yeah, it's $5.
I have a Logitech k400 IR keyboard. Works well but connects through OTG cable. Bluetooth would be better.

No there are not any components in that area, no. I wanted a stand really bad though because I dont have a multi angle case though.
Yes, I used this with a nexus 10 for a while. It actually fits better than the note. I think its because of the grippy material, but it doesn't slide around as much as mine.

Thanks for the review, I don't tend to like small keyboards, but I might get that for my N10.
Yeah I worried I would struggle to type on it too, but I can nail out an email pretty quick. To out it in perspective, it is about as large as the tablet.

If only they did such accessories with a Dvorak layout, I might be interested! Then again, since dvorak is optimised to alternate the side of the keyboard you type on as much as possible, it's pretty much perfect for typing with 2 thumbs - I'm actually faster typing on my on screen keyboard and having swiftkey correct all the mistakes than I am on a physical keyboard!

I have almost the same thing. It works fine, but it's not exactly fast to type. The buttons are far too close together to type normally and a bit too far apart to be fast for thumbs-only. Particularly reaching the right-thumb over the touch pad is a drag. But it is still better than using the on-screen keyboard in a terminal emulator. Having all the F-keys, arrows, edit keys, and immediate access to shift and alt and ctrl keys instead of always waiting for long-presses or diving in to alt keyboards is a big deal.
Minor issues: no page up page down keys. I wish the "/" didn't require the Fn key as it's used a lot in linux comands.
Unexpected bonus, it actually comes with a usb bluetooth dongle stowed in back. So you can use it on say headless servers with everything you need right in your pocket.

Got the Motorola Keyboard in today.
Pluses
1. Feels solid (well built) .
2. Love the retractable touchpad.
3. Touchpad is a nice size.
4. Connects with absolutely no problem and works great!!:good:
I already think this is going to be the one to go with! I will post more on battery life after our techs use it for a couple of days
You will need to adjust the pointer speed its a little to slow on the default settings
