After a few weeks of waiting I received my Nexus 7 today. I'll admit, I can be pretty picky about these things. I noticed what I first assumed was a crack in the top-right corner of the bezel. Upon further inspection I noticed a similar mark, although less pronounced in the top left corner, in the same spot. There's a third, (even less noticeable but still visible mark in the bottom corner of the bezel, [not pictured]), and the remaining bottom corner looks completely fine.
Question is, am I the only one with these cracks/defects, and while it may seem too picky to some, I'm very tempted to do an exchange. Pictures below.

Molding seams. They're all like that.
Mine was like that too... not as pronounced but visible.

Uhh, no they aren't. Mine doesn't have any of these visible. If its on all of em then some must look worse than others
Odd. Mine doesn't have this issue.

Very interesting, on the most prominent seem (top photo) I pushed it together and it did close up. If they're all like this then it will save me the trouble of returning, cause what's the point.

Thank you for taking the time to take those photos and posting them. It's good to know they're not all like that. Looks like I'll be returning my N7 after all. (If only I wasn't so damn picky.) lol
after checking mine, I only have one corner (corner above where the power button is) shows something similar. It's not a crack for sure, more like a uneven paint line.
Seems like a pain to return anything purchased online. I spoke with Google's customer service after being on hold for 5 mins, (which by the way, they need to change the on-hold music.) The rep, nice guy, made a note of my issue and said I'll be receiving an email in the next 48 hours. I assume after the return, and another few business days to credit my card back, I'll be able to try to buy one locally. (If I can even find one.)

So I've done a little research on pricing, found out to have my screen replaced by HTC it's $115. I asked about having an indy shop do it instead but they informed that doing so would void the warranty. How would they know? Apparently the screws in the back have paint on them and they know if the phone has been tampered with.
Anyways, the crack in my screen is about an inch long. It starts on the left right where the bottom of the taskbar is. It then runs up to right under the earphone speaker. The phone works just fine and you can barley see the crack.
My question, is it dangerous to the phone to not have it repaired? The crack can't "run" any more, so I can't quite make up my mind. Let me know what you all think.
Thanks.

Anyway is this supposed to be in the right forum? Still I'd say fix it. I personally can't stand my screen to have a scratch.
If it's a scratch, meh
If it's an actual crack, 100% DEFINITELY replace it. Your entire screen's strength has been compromised. Who knows when the next pressure put on it in the wrong place or accidental drop could cause the whole screen to crack since it is weaker now.
I would go for the replacement.
Replacement screens/glass on ebay yet?
Don't get it fixed unless it becomes unusable or unless it bothers you. If it doesn't bother you then why spend $115 to fix it. Fix it when it actual causes problems using it and by the time that happens the price to fix it might drop.

If the crack runs from one side to another, then your glass is already in two pieces. The touch digitizer is the only thing holding it together. The worst that can happen is you push in the screen and the glass cuts through the digitizer and scratches the OLED underneath. That being said, I've seen a number of people use iPhones with cracked screens for months without any trouble and I've never seen the digitizer give way.
I agree with KingLouis3: Use it 'til it annoys you or breaks.
Thanks for the responses. Pokey, I think my concerns were along the lines of what you said with the OLEDs. It is somewhat difficult to explain where the location sorry some of you are grammar professors apparently.
Either way, I do I'll end up just holding up to get it worked on for the time being. I'll see how long it goes until any issues arise. Here's a picture by the way, see if you can see what I'm talking about here.

Has anybody seen something like this before and can explain what it is?
Touch works fine, functionality is not impaired, but it's right in the center of the screen and is going to bug the heck out of me!!
Edit: Shoot! Screen shot does not capture it. It's an eliptical halo (a circle or ring of light).

Got the same issue exactly. Mine got squeezed in a bag, and the center of the screen touched the LCD.
The halo slowly dissapered over the next few minutes. This happened 3 times so far.
I replaced my portfolio after that because with it, the cover is not totally flat over the screen because of the claw that squeeze the tablet, and if you put something over the tablet, the portfolio cover bend in the center, so all the pressure is at one place.
Replaced it with the TransCover, everything fine now.
My old portfolio was like this model:

Hmmm - it did happen after I came back from a trip. Tablet was clamshell closed in a bag, no cover though. Could be that it got squeezed, that i threw another bag on top or some such..
Thanks for responding. I will be more careful now.
Does anyone else have faint black lines covering the hardware buttons or the LED on the black n4?
I'll try to post a picture later- they're basically the thin lines that appear on the top and bottom of the phone, but instead of stopping along/over the LED and menu/return keys, they kinda look painted over them.
I did install a tempered glass screen protector before noticing this, but if anyone else sees the same thing, please post.

It's not the same on my N3... the lines don't cover the button lights...
See my attachment.
There are black lines covering the LED as well. Certainly doesn't seem normal.

Sorry ya mines the same. But on the note 3 it isn't as noticeable because the pattern is different. It's the pattern that Samsung used that makes it too obvious.

I'm glad I have bad eye sight; I probably wouldn't of noticed it if it wasn't posted here..
thanks for making me look for it when I get my phone! :crying:
I had the same question. When i saw it i almost wanted to return the device. I can not believe they would make something like the note 4 and then ruin it with that kind of finish. I am really disappointed by the fact that they didn't keep the same style as the note 3 at least or improved it. a nice brushed aluminun look or something. anything is better then these stupid lines. it reminds me of an old crt monitor from WAY back in the day that was interlaced. just ugly.
Must be something with the black version. I have the lines also but my wife got the white version and doesn't have the lines...
Do what I do and turn off the back lights
Are we supposed to receive a tweezer and replacement nibs for this phone in the box? I ordered it from Samsung direct and cannot seem to find it.
Is anyone else missing it from the box?
Yes, those are supposed to be included: http://www.samsung.com/us/galaxy/note8/specs/ .

This is going to be a problem. I know from bitter experience that if an item is missing Samsung will require the whole box and contents including your mobile to be returned! Unless your outlet can arrange with the Samsung rep' to just give you a pack. Its an absurd situation. I speak in relation to Southern Europe, if you are in the USA or UK etc things 'may' be different?
It happens, it has to considering millions of these mobiles will be shipped. Its just a pain to resolve.
I know numerous Note 7 buyers where NOT requested to return all the contents of the box only the mobile. To that end maybe a decent member here who has a spare set could send it to you as a kind favour? If I had a set I would do so. When I returned both my Note 7's the outlet (Samsung) required everything, including the so called free VR head set! :silly:
Hope you can resolve this with a minimum of fuss.
Ryland :good:
It also happens that customers sometimes fail to check every nook and cranny of their packaging, or fail to unbox their device in the middle of an otherwise-empty surface where they can easily see everything that's removed from the box, and where there's no danger of knocking tiny items to the floor.
Worst case, though, is that you can order replacement nibs for a few dollars.
what are the little tweezer things for anyway?

Hi, I don't suppose anyone could tell me what this is? I see it very clearly on my new note 9 I got 2 days ago. You can see it easily in a blacklight, hard to see in daylight. Any clues?

Have you got a screen protector on?
It's adhesive within the display.
I got the same thing on my screen? wtf is that?
I do not have a screen protector on. I figured it would be the glue underneath any idea if that will go away, or should I send it in for warranty? I like to study in my room with a blacklight on, and in person, this thing sticks out like a sore thumb lol
Why on earth would you send it in for warranty, this is not a fault, this is part of the production process, they all have this.
As two of my friends have note 9s and this doesnt show on their phones that's why.

Are you looking at your phone under a strong UV light?
There's a whole thread with "thousands upon of thousands " of users that have this defect.

Don't worry, mine has this too (more visible with certain shades of grey though, at 60-65%+ brightness, in a dark room). It looks like some kind of glue or adhesive
Coming from a Pixel 2 XL, it never bothered me too much though. I've seen worse screen defects

same here, never noticed it until I was curing the device under the UV. since the time you are under UV lights should be fairly limited I would guess it's not a problem or an actual defect just that the UV shows up something that likely wouldn't be noticed otherwise.
its like saying the phone smells like a burnt crisp while having it out barbecuing.
but only when having it out barbecuing.
question:
is the phone making the barbecue smell or is the barbecue making the phone smell
