I've been really wanting to purchase this tablet for awhile now, up until I read a few articles about a rumored 10 inch version of the tablet. I would really enjoy the larger screen, but again this is just a rumor. Should I go ahead and purchase the Nexus 7 or wait to see if there will be a Nexus 10? Thanks for anyone's input!
Btw, these are the articles I read:
http://www.geek.com/articles/gadgets/google-nexus-10-tablet-coming-soon-2012071/
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Google-Nexus-7-Nexus-10-Kindle-Fire-Surface,news-15725.html

I would just get the Nexus 7.

They're not releasing one anytime soon. Why would they have a huge announcement for the nexus 7 but not even mention a Nexus 10?
Those are all just dumb rumors to get pageviews.
Ipad mini has been rumored for years, same thing.

I think I would prefer a 10" tablet myself, but I may end up loving the 7" form factor. I was debating just like you, but when I found out that IF they release a nexus 10, that it wouldn't be until late this year, I went ahead and ordered the 7 and will sell/trade it for the 10 when and if released.

I had a nookColor tablet last year - I loved reading on it, it was easy to hold, etc. I wanted a Galaxy Tab 10.1 so badly though, and after playing with one at Best Buy I decided to sell my nook and buy the Tab. It was cool - definitely better for watching movies - but I found myself not using it as much as I had used the nook. I hardly read and the 10 inch form factor was difficult to hold comfortably. Sold the Tab and got the N7 and couldn't be happier! In the tablet world, bigger is not always better... Personal opinion: Get the N7.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I think I'm going to get the N7, unless I hear any more talk about the N10 in the next few days. Although, I've been seeing all these threads about people's N7's being defective, so I'm going to wait a bit to place my order anyway.

I sold my touchpad for this tablet and have not looked back. I do not miss the huge screen. I LOVE the size of this tablet it fits perfectly in my hands. Plus the size of it makes it easily transportable. Not to mention the fact that a nexus 10 has not been officially announced. Get this, if the 10 ever comes out sell this and get the 10

Hey guys, I'm in the same situation of the op, only difference is that Nexus 7 isn't still purchasable in my country (it will be in august/september).
However, I think that I will use this tablet (if I will buy it) for reading book and comic/manga, you think that it is good for that, or is better if I take my attention to a 10" tablet?

I read it's been backordered for a few weeks, so you might have more time for talk to come out anyway.
Edit: the 16GB version anyway. The 8GB version seems available.
I have a 10" galaxy tab, plus the nexus 7. The nexus 7 really surprised me, that small screen may actually be big enough. I am still undecided whether or not I will need another 10" tablet, or the 7" is enough. But at the moment there its a high likelihood that the 10" will never leave my house again, and I will travel with the 7" only. I think for most people, the 7" form factor may be better. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the need to read full page adobe files. So far, what I tested are all readable on the 7" device, but that is so unexpected that I need to test more before I decide to retire the 10" tablet.
I prefer the 7" form factor.
10" is simply too large when you are viewing it by holding it with your hand.
You have to move your eyes around to look from top to bottom.
I too was a little worried about something that isn't a whole lot bigger than our phones now...but I actually love it. It is easier to handle and to type on. I like reading from it as well. As far as waiting...I wouldn't be surprised if Google had a bigger tablet around the holidays. But I wouldn't wait around for it.

If you don't have problems with 10" I'll wait because the Nexus 7 maybe will be with connection 3G/4G (LTE)

I honestly don't see the point of owning and android phone AND an android pad... same with having an iphone and ipad
if I had an iphone, I'd look at android pads
I was looking at the new ipad too... but I can't see myself using it for anything more than I use my phone or laptop for so I don't see the point
I was thinking about the newer ipad too, but I ended up buying a $1000 laptop instead. Lol

It makes a lot of since to have have both apple or both android. You can use your purchased apps on both devices from the same company. But you can't use your ios apps on your android and your android apps on ios. You would have to buy them all over again.
That display is really something to behold. Never seen anything like it before. Would I buy one? Nope. Would I buy an Android tablet? Nope. I have 0 use for both of them at this point.

Have fun with the rest of the sheep.
And why is that high of screen resolution needed on a 10" screen?
Just like the rest of the iDrones, ooh look it is shiny, look at the pretty colors and lights, and I only have to sign my bank account, soul, and first born child over to crapple? Sign me up! Morons!
Give crapple 500+ dollars,
Get higher screen res than is actually needed,
Tablet overheats and shuts down,
Firmware fix will just slow down CPU reducing performance,
Pay crapple hundreds more dollars for apps that aren't actually worth it,
PRICELESS!

I unfortunately can't justify buying a tab. I want one. I bought my girlfriend the Nook Tablet and her roommate uses it more than she does. I think I'm gonna take it and put CM7 on it.
Nexus 7 is good ! and most of people say, a lot of reasons should buy it, e.g Cheap, Quad core cpu, 1280 x 800 display (216 pixels-per-inch), and android 4.1 ! it is only apply on people who don't have tablet on hand !
but I only have one reason not buying Google Nexus 7 ! the screen is too small, I already have hp touchpad, it have 9.7" screen display, 7" it is too small if compare with 9.7" or 10.1", it is no point to spend other $248 to get other 7" tablet!
if google release 10.1" Nexus tablet, it will be different story!
cool story bro

I've the Hp Touchpad as well and I use it for reading mainly and ocassionally for browsing. However, I find it too heavy for reading and it isn't comfortable to hold while in bed. It's true that it runs ICS but there are still issues which probably won't be fixed. I'm seriously considering buying the Nexus 7, since I paid only £89 for the touchpad anyway.

I personally prefer reading from a self lit screen rather than having a separate source of light (small lamp attached to Kindle for ex.). Also even the newest e-ink kindle's dpi isn't perfect, the pixels forming the letters can be easily distinguished! That cannot happen with a screen with higher DPI.

humm... weird, running an older macbook pro with Ableton live and photoshop to do actual work and rendering things and all the things a advanced computer system does and it makes my Nexus 4 feel like a good place to check my texts and maybe struggle to use a regular website on the road.
I really dont need a tablet, to me it is like a frustrating computer screen that can't run the millions of computer programs that pros need on mac or pc, and without being able to have full control.
My Nexus is significantly more responsive than my dual core notebook with windows 8. I think its time for me to get a quad notebook as well.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I dont' get it , I have an older macbook pro, with a 5400 HD even, I don't wait even a second more for anything that I should.
This phone on the other hand, I couldn't even go threw crome to Google mail regular view and click the spam folder properly, or I can't even sign out of the desk top version of facebook on the phone.
The phone has wasted more seconds of my life in the last week waiting for it to do things than a real dual core computer has in years.
Do you mean when you click an app it opens quickly ? Thats cool, but overall a phone on android is just a phone compared to a laptop.
I couldn't make a living without a laptop, I couldn't DJ, I couldn't make graphics or websites, I couldn't have video and audio rendered, I have 8 gigs memory in my macbook and I can have ten huge programs open at the same time without a hicup...
You know what I mean.
The day we are looking at a projected image of android on teh wall and using a keyboard is the day we will all prob go by a windows or iphone and notice that nobody is ever going to make ableton live or even photoshop work on android, not the full version, not Final Cut Pro, not even a full version of anything that people need.

You know major manufacturers are working on a new bios now. It probably take you around 10 - 15 seconds to boot up your Laptop (If it's using an SSD). Soon 3 seconds will be the norm. Give it about five more years
I like my mac lol...haters gonnna hate
The turn of the year always brings with it new found excitement about the potential hardware and software that we are likely see introduced from the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google. It also marks the start of the countdown to events like Apple’s WWDC and Google’s I/O conference, both of which take place in the Bay Area at the Moscone Center. We won’t find out exactly what both companies have in store for us during their respective events, but early reports are suggesting Google could be planning on announcing information and technical specifications of two new Nexus branded devices.
Last year’s Google I/O event saw the world being introduced to the iOS version of the Google Chrome web browser as well as the unveiling of the ASUS manufactured Nexus 7 tablet and the Nexus Q social streaming media player that never actually made it to the public. The latest reports suggest that Google is planning to continue the trend of making hardware based announcements by unveiling another LG manufactured smartphone called the Nexus 5 as well as medium market tablet called the Nexus 7.7, also produced by LG.
This year’s I/O conference is set to take place in May in familiar surroundings at Moscone Center West. The Korean based report is suggesting that exhaustive information about the hardware won’t be made available until the event itself, but also suggests that the Nexus 5 will come with a 5-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and an impressive pixel density of 440 pixels-per-inch. A NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor complete with 2GB of on-board RAM could also be bundled with the hardware.
The Nexus 7.7 is speculated to run the same processor as the smaller smartphone, also with 2GB of RAM. The 7.7-inch display will reportedly come with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and be available in either 8GB or 16GB variants. Both sets of hardware are expected to come pre-installed with Android 5.0 when they launch. Although no pricing details for the Nexus 7.7 were included in the initial reports; it is being suggested that the Nexus 5 device could launch with a $299 price-tag for the 8GB model, which would put it into the same pricing structure as the current Nexus 4 smartphone.
As is always the case with speculation of this nature, we won’t really know the intention of Google until the event is right at our nose, but it would certainly be a welcome announcement during I/O.

This. If the next nexus comes larger than 4.85 then I'm out. Unless they remove the bottom bezel. Because the nexus 4 has a smaller screen than the galaxy s2 (from the bottom of the notification bar to the top of the navigation bar) too much bezel on top and bottom. If they can optimize the space, maybe I will get a 5" but the note 2 was ridiculous, had to shift my hand to swipe away a notification

6 inches for f***s sake. 5" was good enough, you could've taken it to 5.5" but 6 is just straight pain. Everything is so awesome and then you have many reasons not to upgrade to nexus 6 like 10.1 mm thickness the motorola logo on the back so big killing the grace of Nexus logo and of course the 6" giant display. We needed a phone and not a phablet.

I know and the purpose of this thread is Nexus 5 users' opinion on the phone.
The size is not the problem, the size of the price tag is. Damn, I can't even tell you how disappointed I am... Moto X 2014 GPE for me.
too big, too ugly, too much
Current Nexus 4 owner here who will not be buying the Nexus 6. I agree too big and too pricey. I only hope they continue to sell the Nexus 5 (32GB Black currently out of stock). That's the only phone I want to purchase now. Would have been nice if Google did a slight refresh of the Nexus 5 to sell to users who don't want a mammoth phone. If they had taken the Moto X and added Qi charging and called it the Nexus 5 (2014) I'd be ecstatic.
Beastly phone. It's such a shame it's so big, in my opinion.
Phablet users get to rejoice. Everyone else, not so much. Such a shame there's no updated Nexus 5.
Looks like I'm going to save some money. Too big, way more expensive and doesn't come in black. Not tempted at all in buying this and ditching my N5.
It comes in pints? I'm getting one!
OK so quick question. Preorders start for this at the end of the month. Does anybody know if I will be charged as soon as I pre-order or if I won't be charged until it ships?

until it's official, it's just a guess, but as with the the other Nexus devices in the play store, you never got charged before it actually shipped.

Yeah that is what I was basing it on. How that's how it goes with nexus 6
Too many other options in that price range with the play editions out there. I would have bought it around $100-$150 more, but IMO its not worth $250 more. I'm staying with the 5 and probably buying a few more of those if they go on sale for my wife and kids.
Google missed the mark on this one, I guess they want us to help out for paying too much for Motorola...
I will wait for the device on display and compare before I buy it (maybe not), the size does concern me, the thickness (1cm) and weighs 50 grams more

Talking to my importer has 2 demo units, too bad wwe don't live near by, would of got some photos, will see if he will take some pics
The size is good for me but dat price ???
