What am i using????
After trying several ICS roms, i wanted a very stable, long battery rom.
So i chose stock gingerbread, not clocked, and it lasts forever, not laggy...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I use ICS, Mainly because I like to have the latest Android version available. That being said, Stock GB is very good, Very efficient and smooth with great battery.
But most custom ROMs and mods are for ICS so thats another reason i use it.
GB - better battery life and i dont see any advantage to using ics over gb

Have you tried the latest ICS 4.0.4?
It is by far better than GB and also better than 4.0.3. My main reasons:
Very stable
Excellent battery life - for sure far better than GB, at least this is my experience
Premium S-apps - they are much better than the ones found on GB, and I use them everyday
ICS handles better multitasking - so the interface is smoother
For me - proper Hebrew language support - GB is poor on right to left languages support
Access to apps supported only on ICS, like Chrome and Apex, for example
These are only the most relevant ICS features - but overall the ICS implementation really feels better than GB.
I'm Using Latest ICS 4.0.4 . I Always Love To Use New OS.

Yes, but what about the brick bug risk of using this stock ROM? I have 4.0.3 and will likely update once it hits UK, but bricking my device in the progress worries me.
I'm on ICS 4.0.3.It's good and smooth but it makes a hissing sound upon recording say a video file.
It's a bit off topic but is this problem solved in 4.0.4?
Oh and btw the gps wakelock problem in GB used to drive me crazy now I can relax I don't really care if it (ICS) uses more battery.:good:
Hi at all,
I use a final ics 4.0.4 ger rom stock with speedmod 3-9 kernel and i have a fast, stable and powerful system... It's a perfect combination

I, personally, don't like touchwiz ui and wanted to be on the latest OS available so I flashed paranoid Android ROM on to my device. This ROM was made to suit the hybrid phone/tablet design of the note AND I get to have that pure Google OS feel. The are other great roms available for the note but I find it extremely difficult to switch from paranoid Android.

I am using Stock ICS 4.0.3, with Speedmod Kernel K3-9. Although felt GB was much faster/smoother than ICS, but who wants to stay downgraded.
P.S. - Am already looking forward to JB
ICS is my choice, and a memorial has much better features. My recommendation.

The best rom for me is ICS Stunner 4.3. I noticed a few problems while using double twist but other than that its amazing and not battery consumer. I can last 16-18 hours with moderate whatsapp use and surfing
+1 for Stunner.
There's 3 types of roms:
A) Stock Rom (aka OEM's ROM) - the rom that's shipped with the device.
B) Custom Rom (ie/ "in between roms") - these are like VillianROMs, they're OEM based roms but altered by a 3rd-party developer (eg xda) for the *better*
C) AOSP Rom (ie/ based on Google's Source Code) - examples are AOSP, AOKP, CyanogenMod, MIUI.
For any new device, you always get access to A-type roms first, then B-type, then C-typer...understood?
For me, C > B > A in-terms of overall experience (as long as they offer you the features you want and are stable).
And in terms of C-type roms; MIUI > CM9 = AOKP > AOSP.
...other important points, use your favourite launcher with any rom, have all primary apps inverted (white -> black background), use a dark theme and replace the cyan detailing with a crimson one*.
So what's the best (imho) right now: neobuddy's ICS-Stunner v4.3
It's nearly 100% perfect. The only problems is a little stability issues (rare), no Super-optimized kernel (one that clocks higher while saving battery), and no support for the S-Pen.
Otherwise: maxicet's MidNote v3.1
It's not as fluid as ICS Stunner, doesn't have the AOKP options, but its decent daily driver and the S Pen works.
*Not the best example, but this red theme would save you lots of battery life, especially on a AMOLED screen:

Yes.
There already is one or two beta's. I'd advise against those at this stage. The CMT will likely support the AT&T version. They will also (officially)support the international version but that would be in 6 months time from now. (Just like they did on the i9000).

It's already available, he just hasn't posted it on xda. PM him if you want a copy or just wait a couple hours for his OpeningPost to change. Its normally just updating the system/apps to the latest with a little bug fixes and going back to ext4 (which should make things even smoother).

Take a look at Imilka's CM9 ROM in the dev section. Running it right now and it is awesome.
the s pen apps for ICS such as quill and super note are good alternatives to s pen?
Im thinking about upgrading to ics
Ok im not daily Flashing guy, i need stability and longer battery life.
I have tried Darky's (too buggy for me) and Indian ICS version also getting slowing and stucking nowadays badly with bad battery life ..
Each rom size is around >600mb and that is really headache for me to download and try 5-6 roms
Normally i like to test and match rom for my personal taste but in note case i would like to take advise with existing phone users.
May you advise me which is best rom for stability and battery life?

Actually I have discovered this ROM yesterday and I am using it for a 2 days. Excellent.
But I have a question, should I stay with current v8 kernel or it is ok to move to v11.
I am not sure if I am going to ruin my battery life and performance.
Thanks in advance
I have tried em all and have found a winning rom:
[ROM][ICS][01-08-12][0.8] AniDroid-N7000 (CM9 | 3.0.38 | SLQB | OC)
Using that rom with its stock kernel I am getting very nice performance and battery life!! 3G+ data+sync on (WIFI and the rest disabled) I am getting 1% an hour drain! I am tempted to try a CM10 but I would only be doing so 'to have the latest' whilst not necessarily being 'the greatest'. I do get itchy though but will probably await for the Project Butter to be working and then I'll switch.

I'm on Cleannote v4 and Notecore v11... the performance is great and I think the battery life is very good, and think most on both would agree.
If you don't like touchwiz, basic ROMs, then this may not be the right combination for you... but I find it clean, smooth, and efficient. I don't care about all the extras, just want a phone that works and runs my apps dependably and quickly.
Give v11 a try. Just do a nandroid first and you can always flash back if you don't like it for some reason (I can't think of any reason).

I would recommend to stick with it if you are not facing any issues.
Since you want to upgrade Use only Standard version. OC versions drains battery pretty fast.

This rom is to buggy
Go for Alliance rom Ics final
Or Rocket rom v12 ics both roms are extremly stable also bugfree
It depends on what you are looking for.... If you want to stick with ICS then like the above post says. RRv12 is amazing stable but you will have to flash a few extra add ons. Personally I love Kingdroidv8 - no extra work acquired and very stable, good battery life and smooth + fast. With the right kernel.
If you want to try out JB you are going to have to be willing to put up with the bugs, as everyone said it is not stable being based on LEAKED versions. Ultimate JB rom is beautiful and again requires extra work in flashing. But I'm running XLR JB rom right now and so far it's stable but not as fast as I want it to be.
Since you said you just got your NOTE. I suggest that you stick to ICS ROMs based on TOUCHwiz. Get a feel of how amazing the phone is and why everyone of us is in love with the NOTE. Once you've had enough of it, I'm sure a stable version of JB should be out by then
Have fun. Be creative :good:
Try paranoid Android 2.55 ultaka.
I have been using this for about a month, I have followed all the updates, really smooth stable and great battery life, but it's not a TW ROM so stuff like multi windows, snote, smemo, don't work.

Trust me , ICS is even bettter than GB ...
JB is good , but battery drains like a heck and got some random reboots , so i highly recommend an ICS rom.
Pros of ICS:
-Solid as hell with good battery
-Smooth
-Fast
-A lot of Jelly Bean apks and mods can also be used on ICS
Cons of ICS:
-Development has mostly stopped (except kevinrus )
-Lack of features compared to Jelly Bean (which some people don't like)
Pros of Jelly Bean:
-HW acceleration (which tends to be hit and miss on our device sometimes)
-Built in features such as Expandable notifications, lockscreen widgets etc
-Extra features such as Halo and in general more customiseable ability
-Latest and greatest
Cons of Jelly Bean:
-HW acceleration really does take its toll on a single core device with only so much ram
-Because builds are released daily they aren't always stable and may have bugs
-Increased battery consumption naturally
4.3 builds are a lot better than 4.2 builds though, despite being in early stages, the few builds of CM10.2 I've tried were excellent

I agree with @Soryuu that 4.3/CM10.2 is a huge improvement compared to all 4.2 ROMs, it's faster and gives double battery life. Check my new thread posted this afternoon, I posted guide how to cleanly upgrade and have bug-free working CM10.2
It is that good that I've flashed Semaphore 3.1.0s kernel and won't upgrade anymore, good enough for me
