I had rooted my phone using Kingroot. When I got the notification saying that a new update us available, I unrooted my phone through Kingroot itself. I tried to install the update but it failed. Then I performed a factory reset through the settings and attempted the update once again. It failed, and another issue rose up with this. The Google app was not updating to the latest version and was stuck at version 4.1.24.1672412.arm. I reset my phone through the settings again but to no avail. There is no issue in running the phone, but the Google app in the play store now says that your device is not compatible with the current version of this app. And my device software is not updating to the latest version. Please help
Hi,
I have an unlocked, rooted z3+ running MM (32.1.A.185).
Because of the issue with the encrypted bootloader files, I have been trying to disble OTA update notifications.
So far, I have installed FOTAKill_Droidviews.apk and Disable Service by WanQi, (using it to disable the Google Play SystemUpdateService). I also renemed the Otacerts.zip located in /etc/security to otacerts.zip.bak
I then rebooted into TWRP and cleared my cache and dalvik.cache
the notification that there is a Xperia sytstem update ready fr download won't go away.
Can anyone suggest what I need to do to get rid of OTA updates one and for all?
EDIT:
I see that there is a service group called Xperia Software updates, including ModelUpdateService and 26 others. I think the culprit may be hidden here, in which case the Google services are a not applicable to this device. Still could do with help in isolating which service is responsible for both the initial notification and any updates that are already registered.
BR.
I have OEM non-rooted phone with original 4.4.4 Android.
Phone keeps bugging me about installing the latest OTA Lollipop update it downloaded over WiFi even without my permission.
How would I disable it? Apparently with possible MMC Fail I don't want any updates installed.

1.non root method
If you dont want to root You can download "package disabler pro" app ftom playstore and disable "software update" from apps list.
2.Root method
Root your phone and install titanium backup app from playstore then from titanium backup app search in app list "software update" click on it and hit freeze.
For root you can use kingroot app since you are on kitkat or Twrp recovery+supersu method.
Hope this wil help.
Thanks! #1 worked like charm

Not only the "Software Update" but also the "System Update" (in some ROMS like the Jasmine 3).
Also, you want to delete the 400M update file /cache/fota/update.zip
Why dont you want to uodate?
I just picked up a t-mobile note 4. Currently on EPG2 baeband, Should I be concerned with firmware updates?
I am buying a unlocked note8. And I require root as a lot of my apps require it.... and it’s my understanding that I am going to need to stop the ota update in order to achieve root.
Can someone please tell me how to stop the ota update so I can root the device.
Hello,
Curious if are you going to run a custom rom or root and remove apps you don't want?

Which model do you have? Snapdragon?
Generally you can disable the software update using a Package Disabler from the Play Store, or freeze it using Titanium Backup once rooted. Simply turning off the update option in Settings will not work long-term, as it would eventually update anyways. That's why you need to disable or freeze it.
In developers options you can also turn off auto update system. Usually after you root OTA updates won't function anymore anyway after the device status changes to custom. Or does that not apply for US Snapdragons & SamFail?
Can I temporarily disable it just long enough so I can root. Via samfail
Yes, just go in settings - software updates, there change to download updates manually... Job done: nothing will be updated unless you initiate it yourself...
Can update be stopped without root?
Most package disablers are not working, dev option not working.
Have gone back to oreo from pie don't want be forced back onto pie.
I have a rooted Galaxy s10+ with android pie. Doesn't freezing "Software Update" system apps of my android by Titanium Backup make booting problems for my device? Is it safe for me to freeze those apps? I ask because I've heard freezing some system apps like "Device Care" stops the device from booting. As other fellas I get ota update notifications and I wanna get rid of them by freezing those apps.

I am disabling apps with a package disabler for them to still keep updating! So I have gone back to the method of disabling apps via ADB (no root needed this way)
It uninstalls it for the current user, but a factory reset will bring the app back if so needed. You can uninstall the update app with this method, or any other app for that matter. (Just be careful with what you disable)

I restored stock boot images in Magisk and rebooted the phone. It is trying to install the November 2019 security update. It downloads it and starts to install but then it gives me an error message that says it "couldn't update." I'm trying to install the Android 10 update on my phone but it looks like I'm behind on one or two security updates. Anyone know what I can do to get the updates to install? The only modification that I have done to the phone after rooting it was to enable the Camera2 API so that I could use Google Camera.
