I have lots of saved TV episodes and movies on my PC that I want to transfer over to the Nexus 7. I plugged it into my comp and copied a few tv shows over to the Movies folder on the Nexus 7. My episodes on the PC are organized first in folders of TV show title and then in folders for each season. I copied this folder structure over to the Nexus 7. However, when I access them through the google play videos app, I go to personal videos and the only label the organizes the videos is the season. Is there a better way to have the Nexus 7 organize videos that I transferred to the device?
I too would love to know this before purchasing the device!
anyone have any solutions on this?
Use Mizuu app to organize your shows. It downloads all metadata and info.

HUGE second for Mizuu.
It's saying nexus 7 is incompatible with mizuu. Too bad, that looks like a great app
Didn't realize he hadn't added support yet, sorry.
Just sent a note to the developer asking if support for Nexus 7 is planned. Will update the thread when he responds.
Got a response, developer is great.
Hit up the website at mizuu.tv and go to the blog page. There you will find a nightly build that should be compatible.

I don't have a nexus 7 but only my nexus s I use mx player to view videos. and it organizes my videos. it seperates them into groups like
"camera and initial D"
initial D is a tv show... not sure if it'd seperate the seasons but it's worth a shot?

I thought would start this post since I didn't see one where people could some of there favorite video apps that don't come stock on the N7. Her is my list:
1. Netflix - pretty good app and greatest availability of streaming movies you will find from a monthly service.
2. Xfinity Player: Nice updates to the UI for 7 inch tablets and really good for catching up on old episodes of Spartacus.
3. Crunchyroll: The premiere app for watching animes that are subbed and best of all they have a free option that works over Wi-Fi. Doesn't work over Bluetooth tethering, but ICS built in Wi-Fi tethering is just fine if you don't mind the ads.
4. HomeDia: A nice free app that allows you to stream videos on your home network. I paired mine up with plex media server since you have to pay for tversity and it has worked well. If it doesn't play a video just use a third video player app like rockplayer.
5. Dailymotion: To be honest the only reason I use this app is to catch up with subbed anime episodes of OnePiece, outside of that nothing really else for me.
The good thing about these apps are they are free to download and numbers 1, 2, and 5 have apps for the Xbox 360. Well those are mine, so what are yours?

Crackle has some good free movies and tv shows. I also like to browse vimeo using the app, there are lots of cool videos on there.
If you like to watch current TV DROID TV Primetime actually works very well on the N7. There are quite a few free shows but for @$9 for three months you can get shows like Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Greys Anatomy, and dozens of others. I have used it for over a year on my DROID X and it sizes up really well to the 7inch for factor.

Are you doing this on a N7?
I had problems with it on my N7 in that I couldn't get it to lower/hide the info when the video was playing. Unless I am missing something .... On my phone it worked just fine.
UPDATE
Now if this isn't stupid on my part..... if you touch the video when it is playing, a icon shows on the bottom left to make it Full Screen... thought I had tried everything...

Thanks I didnt know that Crackle would work with the N7 unless I installed flash. So far it looks pretty good, I just dont like how the UI doesn't work that well in portrait mode. Hey that's what updates are for.

Here is a list of Apps that are already working on CCast support
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromecast
As for what I would like to see....
1 - I would like to see the XBMC remote programs allow you to cast to Chromecast as a Target. But I think they would have to add transcoding to XBMC to do it well....
2 - Would like to see a good SCREEN CAST app which I think may in the end not require an APP because it will be native to Android.
3 - The Ability to leverage HDMI-CEC capabilities of Chromecast in an App to enable CCast to act as a Remote Control via IP. (But better would be an IR blaster port in the next generation CCast so those without HDMI-CEC setups can use it as well)
4 - Screen Mirroring support for PC outside of Chrome (Not really an App as much as a program for PC)
Twitch, undoubtedly my app I'd use the most.

I doubt that Dropbox would add casting to it's own app.
Whats funny is I looked at the DIAL homesite and saw the Bittorrent and uTorrent name registered in their database...So soon your Bittorrent client like Azureus or uTorrent may get the capability to stream to CCast.
Check out who has registered names and prefixes for DIAL support.

BBC iPlayer and LoveFilm.
Although I understand they're both UK and the ChromeCast isn't out in the UK yet...so probably not going to be soon.
I do wonder how many Chromecasts are "live" in the UK though!

Great Article! As great as the Chromecast is....It is the DIAL protocol itself that is what makes the device exciting and the Potential to change the way we do TV in the future.
Just imagine TVs with Two Way DIAL support...Whats on the TV can be sent to a second screen...
Or content from any device that supports DIAL can be sent to any TV.
No worrying about the Manufacturer keeping their smart Apps up to date anymore.

Stock video app - only if you have a rooted Chromecast and use the specific version of AllCast (see FAQ).
Otherwise you can use Avia (paid option) or RealPlayer Cloud.

I've also been a VERY proud owner of a Galaxy Note 3 since around early to mid-October when it was first released. All Chromecast-enabled apps have worked just fine on my phone **SO FAR**. As far as I can remember, I've never had a single issue casting from my Note 3, even with the "working" version of Koushik's AllCast/AirCast app. Everything has been just fine and problem-free thus far!!(As far as I know....*[1.]My fingers have remained crossed since I bought this phone back in October. ...&... [2.]This wooden desk has had a small knuckle-sized hole 'knocked' straight through it!!* LOL). But yea, as far as the "stock" Samsung Video app goes, as long as your Chromecast has been rooted and you've installed the correct, "working" version of Koushik Dutta's AllCast/AirCast app onto your phone, you *should* be able to just open up the Video app, locate your video that you're wanting to cast(Google's Chromecast PREFERS for "casted" videos to have the .mp4 file extension and also to have been encoded using the H264 video codec and the AAC audio codec.), and finallllllly, locate and press the "Share to AllCast" button up at the top of the app(If you don't happen to see the "Share to AllCast" icon up at the top of the Videos app, you just MAY have to click on the little 2 or 3 pronged "Share to..." button up at the top of the app instead and just scroll down the list that pops up to locate the AllCast app.). Assuming that your Chromecast has already been properly rooted and the correct version of "AllCast" has been installed, your video(Also assuming that the video has been properly encoded in the H264/AAC codecs.) *SHOULLLDDD* start playing on your tv screen in all its beauty (...with an echo ringing throughout your house/apartment/trailer/cardboard box(I'm TOTALLY J/K about this one!!) coming from your Chromecast sounding eerily like Tarzan in the jungle!! Lol!!).

I have 2 note 3 and i need information to use one of then like a chromecast. Its that possible?
Thanks.
My new app PlexiCast lets you cast movies/videos from your plex library to your chromecast.
I know plex now has chromecast support built in. But I started this back last fall when the chromecast beta sdk first came out. I figure there are still some folks not wanting to pay for a plexpass subscription, so now they have another option until chromecast support is added to the regular features of the plex app.
My app has a free 7 day trial. Then a one time in app upgrade to the full version to get unlimited casting.
**** Now open to everybody -> Google Play Link
This app will not transcode your videos like the plex app will. So it will only play video formats supported by the chromecast.
Transcoding is now an experimental feature. You can enable in in the settings.
TRANSCODE WARNING
● No guarantees.
● Transcoding may not give good results.
● This app calls your Plex Media Server's transcoding engine.
● A number of factors like Wi-Fi network throughput, Plex server specs and server load play a part in successful transcoding.
● If you experience problems with transcoding, there are a number of suggestions in the plex forum to improve transcoding results.
● Please do not leave negative ratings/comments if transcoding does not work for you. The results you receive are beyond this app's control.
It also only works for movie/home movie categories. So no tv show, music or photo support currently.
To beta test:
1) join the communit - https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/112798222770978290122
2) opt-in for beta testing - https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.fivehellions.android.plexicast
3) download app (will only be visible once you've done steps 1&2) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fivehellions.android.plexicast
Installed it.

You have to have a Plex Media Server running on your local network. Get it here - https://plex.tv/downloads
Get that running and create at least one library that holds video files. Take note of the computer name or local ip address of the computer you installed it on. Then type that in the server name box.
I'll run it through some paces once I get home.
Went through first two steps and play store says item not found??? Did I miss the boat??? Wait..don't answer that...
Edit: works now

With my app you don't have to pay an ongoing subscription or wait for the chromecast feature to be available in the normal paid app.
I will admit the official plex app has advantages. It will transcode the files so it can play files not supported by the chromecast. It includes photo, tv and music support. It shows movie detail on your tv while your browsing titles. And it looks nicer. So if any of these things are important to you I'd recommend paying for the plex pass or waiting for the feature to be available to everybody.
I started this before plex even said that they would support the chromecast. Then google made regular devs wait 6 months before releasing the final SDK. If you look at the comments on the plex app you will see alot of people refuse to pay a subscription. I figured I'd go ahead and release it for those that don't want to wait and would rather pay a one time fee vs a subscription.
Is Plex OK with this?

Not sure.
I had an icon designed that incorporated the cast icon and the plex > sign. But then I decided I probably wasn't allowed to use that symbol so I redesigned my icon (even though there are multiple apps in the play store that use it in their icon that are not made by plex)
I could see them having a problem with my app name. If they do I will gladly change it.
Other than that I access data in the official way that they make it available in their web api. So I don't think they can tell me that I'm not allowed to do this.
Cool. Next question.
Do you have play controls like play, pause, stop, etc..?
If so, how did you do it? I'm programming a remote control and have been trying to figure out how to access these controls.
The common and documented HTTP API did not work.

I was trying to do the beta the official way in the play store. They require you to be part of a google plus community or a google group. It is alot easier to deliver new app versions to the testers since they get an app update notification from the play store like regular apps.
But I don't plan on the beta being long. If everything keeps doing well and no major bugs are found I will release it to everybody on monday.

I do have play controls but they are handled by the chromecast sdk through the media router. They don't control plex.
Can this be handled with broadcasting intents?

I would start by digging around the cast sdk http://developer.android.com/reference/com/google/android/gms/cast/package-summary.html
The way the sample shows, when you connect to a chromecast it changes the app on the chromecast to your app. So I couldn't control google play music playing on the chromecast with my app. But I bet there is a way to connect to the current session without changing the app. I know there was an app in the play store that does that. (RemoteCast - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benlc.camcast&hl=en)
Specifically I would look at the CastMediaControlIntent and MediaRouteSelector.
When my app connects it calls:
mMediaRouter = MediaRouter.getInstance(context);
mMediaRouteSelector = new MediaRouteSelector.Builder().addControlCategory(
CastMediaControlIntent.categoryForCast(mApplicationId)).build();
mMediaRouterCallback = new CastMediaRouterCallback(this, context);
mMediaRouter.addCallback(mMediaRouteSelector, mMediaRouterCallback,
MediaRouter.CALLBACK_FLAG_PERFORM_ACTIVE_SCAN);
But I'm wondering if you called it without adding a control category if that would work.
Or passed in categoryForRemotePlayback() instead of categoryForCast(mApplicationId) which would at least let you control apps that used the default Media Receiver.
I may look into it next week if I have time. Having an app that could control whatever is playing on the chromecast but also have hooks where app like tasker could interface with it would be pretty neat.
This is some info I can't keep but sharing I came across a video about Chromecast work around. It was really lengthy and boring...but..here's what it was. Use the app avia (it's worth paying for) and the app show box. After installing link the avia to your Chromecast, then open up the show box app find a movie or show. Select what quality your Wi-Fi can handle. UN check the use internal player, click watch now and select avia. So far from what I can tell I could disconnect my Hulu, Netflix and probably my cable. Every series I watch was on there and every movie I've bought through vudu was there. Show box is not in the android app store but I found it on slideme's website. Another video app is tv portal
