Can anyone recommend a decent USB OTG that hangs down the side of the nexus 10 rather than sticks out?
Preferably one they've proven to work with an N10.
I appear to have lost my Samsung one I was hoping to use.
Thank you.
Swype'd at pace from my Galaxy S2
I have this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GI2VMG/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
Works perfectly with my thumb drives and external hdd. Not only does it work, but the price was unbeatable.
Don't buy one of those $10+ cables as it does the same exact thing as this one.
I might add, you could possibly look into getting one that can charge the device at the same time it's using an external storage device. Unless you're okay with it.
Stickmount works with root on my devices
Nexus Media Importer works without root on my devices
GNex and N10.
Hope this helps!
Confirmed that my OTG cable works.

Can you still get to the headphone jack with that cable?
Is there any long (length wise) USB OTG Cable?
So I can just keep the flash drive or external drive in my messenger bag and use my phone or tablet LOL.
Also will USB 3.0 work with the devices?

I bought both of these. Both connect with the larger portion of the USB connector towards the screen so they hang down the side of the tablet:
SANOXY Micro USB Host Mode OTG Cable - The connector for this one was flipped from the picture and hangs down the side of my N10.
eForCity Micro USB OTG to USB 2.0 Adapter - This one came just like it was pictured.
Both came from Hong Kong which took about 2 weeks in the mail however they cost just around $1.00 each and with free shipping not much to lose.
I use mine with a elago Mobile Nano II USB 2.0 microSDHC Flash Memory Card Reader and a 32GB card (my 64GB is in my S3). With the adapter in the OTG cable it barely hangs out the bottom and makes it very compact.
I have 2 kinds of OTG cables here, both working perfectly fine with my Galaxy Nexus. However on Nexus 10 when I connect a USB device to the OTG (or connect the OTG cable with a USB device already plugged in) the tablet turns off completly and I have to remove the OTG to be able to start it again.
OK -- Sorry to resurrect a glue'd horse, but does anyone have a link for one that ALWAYS ships the correctly sized (read not too long) OTG adapter? I've already ordered two of the OTG adapters through Amazon but they BOTH have too long of a connector and it basically sits loose in any device. Very lame.

I'm looking for one as well. The cheap ones from eBay are too long. They work but the connection is loose. Do NOT buy the ones linked below.

I bought THIS one from monoprice for $1.43 last week its on its way...ill report back when it arrives. Monoprice stuff is usually pretty good quality, hoping it is nice and secure

Has anyone tried this? Says it will work with the Nexus 7 so I'm assuming the 10 as well? Would be nice to have all in one.

Just an FYI I e-mailed Juiced Systems to see if this would work with the Nexus 10. Their response is below:
The adapter should work with 4 out of the 5 functions for the Nexus 10(MHL maybe not). I have yet to test it out personally. This is something we will test soon and will post online. The nexus 10 does have an HDMI mini port built into it already. If MHL doesn't work that is because google did not think it was necessary to make it MHL capable when it has an HDMI mini port. The Nexus 7 is not MHL capable either, not sure why they chose to do that. I will keep you posted once the nexus 10 testing comes back.
Thank you

Can you still access the headphone jack with this OTG cable?
Can anyone tell me how an OTG cable can be better than another except of the price/length/design ??
Isn't that micro USB to USB cable just a normal cable connecting 5 pins which are either in a bigger or a smaller plug?
Why should such a cable not work (except of the situation that the cable is damaged)?

I watched a video on how to make your own, if it was correct, they stated that one pin was unused and when it is connected to chassis ground tells the device to go into OTG mode.
So this OTG cable is not just connecting each pin? It's not just an adapter?
Okay then, good to know, thank you

If you took a razor knife to the strain relief part it would work, as it is you can stress it out of the way enough to fit a headphone jack but it puts a bit too much pressure on the USB port for my liking try it they're cheap!
i see most are using ones with a cable, is there an issue with ones like these?
http://www.overstock.com/Electronic...l?recSet=4e4a53cb-bea5-4a2e-aec6-88ea05c24288
http://www.ebay.com/itm/90d-right-A...160919848094?ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:SG:3160
I got 2 of this, works pretty well and sits close to the side of the tablet.
Only 2 issues, the connector itself is long so it's a little loose and it will block the earphone jack.
smart dock knockoff.....may be worth a shot because the samsung one is too dang expensive....this one also looks like it will accept cases unlike the stock one....i may have to give it a shot after payday http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMART-MULTI...ories_MobilePhoneChargers&hash=item5657f3c0a2
Since in US it will still going to cost more than $50, I will wait for some reviews before getting one. Good find for sure
the official dock does accept some cases.
I've had it working with the official flip cover, and with the official protective cover +.
I had seen this exact dock from a different seller on ebay a couple of days ago. I was about to buy it, but then I noticed that it said in the fine print that the mhl and otg connections can't be used at the same time. I'll see if I can find the link again. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume that the oem dock can do both simultaneously?

Edit: this is the one I saw
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=151084606670
The note at the bottom says only one function (mhl or otg) at a time.

Very good in hdmi e 80 inch projector ... :good:
I got one from Amazon for 2t bucks. Compared it to a real one . It's got all most the same circuitry.
The chips that process the otg and charge curent signal are a lot different. But mine works it will charge while I runmy powered usb hub with my external harddrive. In the one I have you only get one otg option at a time. Like you can do one sd card or one usb thing or the hdmi out but not all at the same time so your going to need a usb hub thats got it's own power supply.
And like all Chinese knock offs you never know witch of there military owned slave labour operated plants actually built it . so there's a good chance you wind up with a better one.or one that isn't as good. Or maybe even one that doesn't work at all. They're all in the same case so its hit or miss.
My cheap knock off doc failed as off last night its no longer recognized as a doc. It shows up only the hdmi and charger.you can always charge and use hdmi out. But otg mod reverse the usb port so you can't charge.
Someone know a gadget that allows both usages? HDMI + USB at same time?

Newegg is carrying these now under the brand name "Baaqii".
It's $34 ($28 when on sale) but it also states, way down at the bottom, cannot do both OTG functions at same time.

I'm thinking That to get otg charging theres got to be a switch in the software someplace that lets you turn offotg mod and turn in back on really fast. Like pules on off on off on off constantly in the kernel. But I'm also thinking that there might not be a switch like that in our phones.
I'm thinking that the chips in a smart doc probably do that. So that leaves us not much choice. We either got to buy a doc. Find that switch or
Get a wireless charger.
I found a port of the famous faux kernel. I tried it with the 5 dollar add on app. It had no effect on otg charging a note 2.
I'm thinking the best cheap solution is one of the inductive charger sets. Or possibly putting a 555 timing circuit into a usd cable.
But a $35 1 amp wireless universal charge plat and coil would probably be the easiest way to go.
Yesterday, my Micro USB broke. I could tell after I had my phone plugged in for an hour and it only charged 15% and when i plugged it in again the cable was loose and the slow charging message popped up.
What are the best USB cables that are cheap? Amazon/eBay
What are you using?
Thanks

I was looking for a small one with free shipping. I'm currently using an old Moto one and where it plugs in its way bigger than the HTC. I'd get another HTC one but they aren't real on Amazon and have bad reviews
i belive the Amazon Basics works pretty good, i used several Amazon Basics cables with no problems at all.

I'm worried about the size of the end of the cable. The HTC ones are way smaller, here's a photo next to an old Motorola one.
Don't forget about these things, unless you happen to have a USB C connector on your computer already. The 5X does not come with this cable; it only comes with a USB C to USB C cable. The 6P does, however.

Hi 0.0, I was looking at that same 4 pack earlier as well. Does anyone know if USB-C to USB-A cables (these specifically, or in general I guess) will allow for data transfer when connected to a PC or can they only be used for charging?
Edit: Nevermind, it says in the product description. Thanks, ordered a set.

in other news, i ordered these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W98IQ5M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
mainly because i have a ton of regular cables, and also because soon the other ends are going to be type C. At that time, i will replace all my cables, but until then, these will do.

Not sure why, but it states in the description of those adapters that they are for Data Sync only, doesn't say anything about them working for charging. I hope that isn't the case, but just a heads up.

probably not rated for the current for quick charging
how about a type C male to type C female? does that exist??
For what it's worth, OnePlus finally have their cables up for sale after forever promising them lol. Android Police gave it stellar reviews stating it was of the better cables available when they did their review on them. They only range from $5 to $7 but you do have to pay shipping, still probably much better quality than the generic ones selling on Amazon.
I did order 3 of them, hopefully they are good. Wish they had some that were 6 ft. though.

Question for the community.
I rely on OTG a lot. I have a couple of Micro USB Male to USB A Female adaptors. Is there any reason that I couldn't plug a Type C Male to USB 2.0 Micro B Female adapter (like jadeddjay's item above) into the 5X, plug an existing Micro USB Male to USB A Female OTG cable into that, and then plug my standard cable into that? So:
5X <-- Type C Male to USB 2.0 Micro B Female adapter <-- Micro USB Male to USB A Female OTG <-- standard cable .
I guess it would it be safer to just get a new OTG cable with a Type C Male and USB A Female, like this one. But I'd rather get an adapter that can serve multiple functions as opposed to a new OTG cable that I will only use with one device.
Probably a dumb question, but...
I'm a little out of the tech game, and my knowledge isn't where it should be. That will probably make this a dumb question...
I am going to get a 5x, but have loads and loads of micro-usb peripherals; does anyone know if a micro-usb to type-c convertor exists? I've looked, but it's a pain to search for, as my search results always flip what i want around to type-c to micro-usb / similar.
Long story short; i'd rather not buy loads of new type-c cables, and instead would like a converter that I can plug into my existing kit, for me to then use with the type-c port on the 5x.
Does such a thing exist?
Cheers!
I'm been looking at cables since the phone was announced and I realize I've been spoiled by the cheap cables on monoprice. Hopefully they come down in price by the end of the year.
Is there a reason most A to c type are only one meter? .Best I've been able to find is 2 meter.
Would a USB extension cable work with a USB a to c?
I have a lot of charging equipment that is type a, trying to keep using it.

Well not everyone has an outlet within 3 feet of where they are sitting. For example, when I'm sitting in my living room, my closest outlet is behind my recliner, and I like to be able to use my phone while it charges, so a 6 ft cable is very handy.

6ft for sure is handy cause you don't want to sit against the wall.
Sounded in your original post though that you were trying to find some even longer than 6ft
Wait, why aren't people buying a micro-usb female to usb c male adapter to use existing micro usb cables and chargers?
Hi everyone. I wanted to introduce a new type of a OTG cable that some members may find very useful if you use OTG cables and move data from/to your phone often . The unique thing about this cable is the the USB can be retracted to become Male or Female meaning it can be used for charging like a standard cable and also an OTG in an instant in one non-split cable.
This cable was originally funded through a kickstarter page under the name 1cables, more can be read about the cable here
I'm the first seller to have received this cable for resale in the UK and would like to know what the XDA community thinks of it and how useful would this product be.
The listing can be found here
I can accept offers from xda members for £6.99 for feedback and review purposes
having watched the video, you will likely carry it around in a bag so you might as well just carry around a spare USB battery pack as well, instead of draining your phone (great you can charge your friend's one, but it then means yours is gonna suffer instead, what are the chances of you having loads more battery than your friend??)...
And if you need all those keyboards and gamepads you can just use bluetooth... tbh I think this has limited uses
this cable are really interesting and i think i will buy one.
that's a great idea
Thanks for the feedback. The nature of use is subjective. I'm using this as my main charging cable at work so to have the ability to transfer files without having a extra cable is great.
i have receveid one and i an rea&lly happy, thanks for the promo. it works perfect, that a good product
