Hi
Can someone help me to speed up read, write speed of sd card
Because when I restart my phone it shows me a blak screen and keeps scan media for a minute (..............
i don't want to download any app to increse it, just flash scripts or something like that.... ?
I'm already using Adrenaline Script........
Use CyanogenMod. It doesn't scan as long.

1) Get a class 10 sd card - that will speed things up.
2) As NathanBookham said cyanogenmod doesn't take long.
3) go to /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb and edit it as a text file.
Change the number to 1024 or 2048 (i find 1024 best)

Hi,
I'm running CyanogenMod-4.2.13. 8 GB Class 6 SD card with Apps2SD formatted with EXT4 and something like a 20mb swap partition. I have around 35 applications on my phone.
My home screen consists of 3 screens - 1 widget (Power Control) and 12 icons.
Here's the issue: When I hit the home button from any application, it takes about 20 seconds to load the home screen. If I hit the phone button from any application, it takes about 20-35 seconds to load the Dialer application. The phone just feels laggy. Task manager apps only show a couple processes running - nothing excessive. Is this normal?
If this is not normal, how do I fix it? I wipe about once a month. I've tried clearing the dalvik cache from terminal with this:
mount system/sd
rm -r system/sd/dalvik-cache
reboot
... with no luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Do you have compcache enabled in spare parts?
Do you have 'keep home in memory' checked in spare parts?
No, I didn't. I just checked them and the home seems to load a bit quicker. The phone app still takes awhile. Should I expect it to speed up as it starts caching stuff?
is the phone app taking 10 seconds?
What are you using to setup your swap?
Try changing the swap size to 32 or removing it all together. compcache should be enough for a donut rom.
You can download CacheMate (the one with the icon of a recyle bin/trash can) and try deleting all the cache. That can really speed up a phone.
Or go into the recovery and delete the dalvik-cache or just backup everything and wipe everything on the phone possible and partition your sdcard like this
512 mb ext 3/32 Mb swap (or if you want a swap size that is good for all roms like donut/eclair/hero then make the swamp 96 Mb)/ rest fat32
It looks like it's getting better. I restarted my phone and it's taking less than 5 seconds for the dialer app.
If it starts slowing down again, I'll try messing with the swap.
Good to hear. are you using the default launcher.apk from cyan mod? Because i know it comes with 5 screens, i know you're either using an alternate launcher or just using 3 of the 5 screens.
I'm about to format my SD card and want to wipe everything. I've already wiped its partitions by formatting the card in Stock Nook >> Settings >> Format SD Card.
Now when I go to format it on my PC, I'm not sure what I should choose for "Unit allocation size". Is there an optimal size? I get the following options:
16 kb
32 kb
64 kb
2048 b
4096 b
8192 b
I've always wondered about this, thanks for any comments.
Any thoughts on this? Does it even matter?
Depending on how big your SD card is, the smaller the size, the better use of your drive space. But smaller size also means more management. You have to remember, a file that is two bytes in size will still use up the whole allocation unit, so you'd be wasting space with larger unit sizes, but it's easier to manage fewer units. Somewhere in the middle is best.

This is formating right? When I formated mine I did fat32, don't remember seeing these choices. Wonder if that's why my SD class 10 is not working.
Right, formatting. Windows doesn't give you too many options, but there are some.

Thanks for the response. I search everywhere and could not find any info on this. I have 2 8GB cards.
I´m using BCM RC4.1 update 2 by DK_zero-cool..
If I buy a 10 class card will greatly really improve the performance of my phone? Like a lag when i launch apps?
using this following setups and my Nexus One works smooth with a lot of apps installed
Sometimes i have some lag when i open apps, like 2 or 3 seconds, but better when i didnt turned on Reversed Mount option.
EXT4 partition 512mb
Kingston MicroSD 8gb Class 4 (it came from my old Nokia 5800)
Writing speed 7.7mb/s
Reading Speed 20.7mb/s
Mounts2SD is:
- Enable
- Applications
- Application Data
- EXT4
- readahead 1024kb
- Reversed Mount
- KSM on

I just upgraded to a class 10 and it feels faster. I'm not sure how to test the speed or I would and send you a screen shot.

Humm.. thx for your information..
As already said the phone seems smoother even if the write speed using usb mass storage is lower than 10mb (around 7-8).
I got a trascendo 16Gb class 10.
Hello dear
I've got a 32gig Samsung class 10 card. Every time I turn on the phone, it takes about 5-10 min to scan for media files in the SD card. Is that normal? I cannot take some screenshot to prove it (Quickmeno doesn't take screen in the notification bar), but it takes a long time for me (my old DHD didn't take so much time, indeed didn't show even the message of the scan).
I've always had that too, with all my devices. Are these microSD card filled up with allot of data?
I think this is necessary to update changes in the Android OS. Like for example: update your mp3 songs list or picture gallery, check for apps on the microSD, ...
Maybe there is a setting to disable that?
I'm not bothered by it, I just let the phone idle for a moment. I have a Class 4 card, so it even takes longer for me xD
Edit: It could always be related to the microSD card. If so and you're running on Windows, just copy all the files to a folder as backup. Format the microSD card with default cluster size. And right after that go to properties of the card to scan for and fix filesystem errors and bad sectors. Copy your files back to the card and try again to see or it takes the same amount of time.
If you have very important data on that microSD card I recommend to also backup an image from it through a backup tool.

I have about 18 gig of data on the SD
I'll try to search for errors and bad sectors, then

The best is unmount the card on the phone, "erase SD card" and mount the card on the phone, guess thats how the phone format the card.
Do a backup first, I think that unmounting and mounting will delete your data, what is normal...
Some devices only accept cards formated by themselfs, cards formated in a computer don't work on them, not saying that is the case but, it will be better I think.
Same
Same here. It's really irritating. I was about to ask for solutions. I guess it's the phone's problem since my other phones like O2X don't experience that at all.
I just tested again with my Class 4 32GB microSD. It has about 12GB data on it. It takes only 1-2 minutes for me.
Looks like something is going wrong with your phones than?
Maybe you can try this app: Rescan Media Root, and disable scan on reboot.

Folders contained a file named .nomedia wil not be scanned. You can create this file manualy for every folder without media files...
But using StudioKUMA .nomedia Manager from Google play can make it more easy
Try an app named "Rescan Media"

Hi,
I was looking for and answer, but i can find anything.
So i have 2 questions about swap.
1. Can i have multiple swap files? Like eg. Zram+other swap file? Or two swap files (one on /cache other on /sdcard). Made via 2 apps. One (on internal memory/sdext) would be working all the time, second (sscard) only if i had needed it.
2. Is it possible to lock app in swap? I mean that app should only work using swap - no real ram. I was thinking about music player or some widgets.

I think it's possible to activate swap partition + swap file at once, but why you should do that?
You can create swap partition up to 4096 mb OR swap file up to 4096 mb using" ram expander" app from market.
-zram is ram compressor which slows down the device
Made via 2 apps. One (on internal memory/sdext) would be working all the time, second (sscard) only if i had needed it.

I didn't understand you, u wanna use internal memory as swap or install swapping app in internal?
(Cm9 roms use internal as swap partitions)

I never heard something like locking app in swap but might be possible with some advanced RAM managers.
Sent From My BEAST , I mean X8
i guess u can have multiple swaps but you cannot have swap controlled by multiple apps.
kernel should find all swap places and should work according to them.
and u can increase swappiness to lock apps which are not active into swap.
but x8 internal memory is very slow.
our ram r/w speed is about 550MBps
and internal memory speed about 2mbps
so using swap other than zram is not really a good option.
also zram has disadvantages as it uses ram only and increases cpu overhead.
You can have any number of swap partitions or file that you like. Linux will do the job of distributing the swapped data to them and you can sit back and relax. Mind that only way this makes sense is if you got a fast enough sdcard.
