Was on hold for 45 minutes, guy picks up, tell him about the speaker issue I'm having (distortion), was really nice, talked to supervisor for a few minutes, said ok, we can't do much here from my screen but in an hour you should get an email with someone getting more info about the tablet and sending you a replacement. Took an hour total I think, got the first email now, waiting for the follow up, RMA seems super easy like Amazon and the Kindle fire, same practice. I'll try to keep you guys updated?

I called in on tuesday night, hour on hold, spoke to the guy for about a minute about my backlight. He took my email info and I got an email regarding the ticket being created. I was told 24-48 hours for someone else to contact me. They have about 10 hours left to get to me within their window.
Honestly, this is nothing like amazon. I've had to exchange items before, they usually send it out overnight, then have you ship back the defective item once you get the new one. At this point, im never buying from google directly again.
This is Googles first tablet and some of the blame could be because of Asus, so you can't fully blame one or the other. To quit using them forever is stupid, so they had a hiccup, boohoo. All major companies have "hiccups" and people still get past them. Just try to enjoy it the best you can, it's frustrating, trust me, 2 days and a bad speaker already? But how is this Googles fault, they didn't build the tablet. They funded it perhaps, but they receive all the blame. **** happens when you build a mini computer so small and cheap.
I too received an email straight away after I registered a RMA, yet I'm still waiting for the email with details, from the second tier support. I haven't read about anyone receiving this email yet. Maybe we should start an epic "where is my RMA email" thread, to rival the Play store shipping thread?

Hahahah that would be hilarious. Getting a RMA tablet before some people bought/got their first one.
I emailed Google Play a couple days ago and called today. They just replied my email a minute ago.
No questions asked, they just sent me the UPS return label and let me place an order for a free replacement.
After the new one is delivered I have 21 days to send the defective one to them or else I get charged for it.
Overall a pretty pleasant experience. Hope the replacement doesn't take too long to ship.
Called once......Said they would send RMA
None came
Called again........Said they had no record of my call. Said they would send an RMA.
Never came
Calling third time.....filed BBB report on Google.
Tomorrow......have stop payment put on my credit card.
Just sent an email, it'll be interesting to see how quickly they respond. I don't really want to get a replacement TOO soon. I'd rather they have a chance to work out some of the initial manufacturing kinks. Hopefully they have some mechanism for checking units before sending them out as replacements; I don't really want to go through this process too many times.
Update, RMA email arrived.
18th 1120 - took delivery
18th 1300 - email support asking for replacement
18th 2200 - rang support asking for replacement
20th 0400 - RMA email arrived
20th 0830 - order replacement through the custom google wallet method
20th 0831 - notice that the UK google play says 16GB N7s are "coming soon"

It's acceptable to you that an RMA request cannot be approved by the CSR and must instead be escalated? This is not a hiccup. This is failure built into the system. I was told to expect a response within two weeks. Inadequate customer service for buyers from Google Play is entirely Google's fault.
I don't understand why we should be so forgiving of a behemoth like Google. This is not a small company or startup suddenly finding itself in over its head.

I never faulted Google for the hardware, re-read what I wrote. I am faulting them with how they are handling the mess created by all of the defective devices. As it stands, it has been more than 48 hours since I contacted them and I have nothing to show for it. I called again this morning, on hold for over and hour to final get to a CS rep that was unable to do anything but to say wait until Monday.
Just to keep a timeframe of events..
Received the item Tuesday 7/17
Backlight issue was apparent right away, called google. Help ticket was created with a 24-48 hour window for a response by google's escalation team.
Fast foward to today, 7/20. called again, now im being told to wait until monday for some sort of contact.
This is completely unacceptable service. If by monday, I dont hear anything I will file a chargeback with my CC and make google deal with it.

EXACTLY!! Not to mention, what kind of business takes down their contact phone number from their support page because they are getting swamped?? What kinda BS is that??
Another update,
On the 19th was when I made the first call, was on hold for less than an hour.
22nd I got the email RMA and new order sheet
Shipped on the 24th, here today on the 25th. Less than a week overall. Still had my tablet the whole time, will UPS it back tomorrow after work.
This is for the 8GB models btw, I heard it's a week wait for the 8GB but 2 weeks for the 16GB (through an email). Might help those who are still waiting.

@Dude,
I sent mine back via UPS before getting the replacement hopefully by next week.
So tell us, is the replacement ok? No screen separation or bowing ... etc?
I am just curious if they really had just a small batch of defective units or if this is bigger than that

No issues here. Screen looks fine, speaker works, feels like a solid tablet. Already restored my latest backup and running fine. Other one is unrooted, locked and back in the box.
how long did you waited to get an email with the ups shipping label for shipping the defect tablet back?
Monday evening: called in for RMA request
Tuesday evening: Received RMA instructions and UPS label. Placed order.
Thursday morning: Received UPS and Google email shipping notification for device arrival scheduled for Friday, tomorrow. Shipping is showing as "2 day".
Replacing 16GB for screen lift and faulty accelerometer sensor.
It took them over a week from 1st call to get the rma and replacement email. I called on the 16 got the emails yesterday.

They say you have 21 days to return your original tablet or else they charge you the full price. When does this 21 days counter start? From the time you fill the RMA, or from the time they ship the replacement?

Anyone else in the same boat? Have you gotten the email from the escalation team yet? If so, how long did it take for them to contact you?
I am still waiting for the email the rep on the phone told me about last night. I explained that my speaker is too low compared to my GFs N7 and he mentioned a lot of people were complaining about this with the 16GB versions (go figure). He said that they'll ship me a new one and will send packaging labels to return this one. He said I should expect an email from Google some time this week and after that they'll send me the replacement with 1-day shipping. Is this accurate?
At least I can play around with the N7 for the time being. However, it's quite annoying knowing ill have to redo all my setup again. Só many apps, layout changes, settings changes, etc.
Oh well...
PS - Today at work I compared the screens between my 16GB and my coworkers 8GB and his was noticeably brighter when maxed out. Weird and sad that there is another thing I need to worry about now. I guess I expected these QC issues from Asus as an original Transformer owner.

Nice! Wish they would fulfill my order before sending you a second one though... no offense.
I don't really mind the wait for my replacement. I just want some confirmation that they'll indeed be doing it. Don't want to run out of my grace period without getting to test out the second unit.
I'm sure you'll be getting yours soon.
6pm tonight will be 48 hrs since I contacted them, I don't have high hopes of getting a proper 2nd email.
I called them on Tues about the lifted screen and I got an email from them earlier today about getting a replacement. It seems that I will have to order a new unit (my card will be AUTH but not charged) and then the replacement in. They need to get the device within 21 days so that my card doesn't get charged. I've already placed the order through a special URL and now just waiting to see when they will ship.

Oh, I completely understand. Mostly just poking fun anyway
I ordered early but changed it from 8 to 16gb on the 12th, so I have another week to go. They wouldnt honor my original order date despite giving them more money.
I'm too busy looking for a job anyway. Seems veterans aren't as quickly hired as I had previously thought.
I waited 48 still no reply. I tried to call they tel have to wait for escalation team.

I contacted them on Tuesday sadly only a few hours after getting my N7. My speaker is defective as well, and like you said when I brought it up they mentioned its been coming up lately. Same deal, told me they would ship out a new one for me within 24hrs however they didn't mention anything about 1 day shipping. That would be great.
Just under 24hrs later last night I received two emails back including the return shipping label info and another with a link to a custom play store checkout with my 16gb replacement. I put in my order via the link they gave me but I was greeted with an error on the next page, however I promptly received an email confirming my order so I guess it went through anyways.
All that's left now is waiting to see when it ships..
I hope it's soon.

I was wondering if my 16GB version suffered from low volume levels. I'm still on the fence about it. That would be the only possible defect my device has.

I called Tuesday night (and I emailed them Tuesday afternoon). My Nexus 7 arrived with a cracked screen.
I just received the email from google. They sent me a RMA and a prepaid shipping label. There's also a link to have them send me a replacement unit.
The link takes me to my google wallet account, with a new 16 GB in the cart. They don't charge shipping or tax, but put a hold for $249 on your credit card. I have 21 days to return the defective Nexus 7.
I'm a little worried that I am basically buying a new Nexus 7, and not getting priority over someone who ordered today. If I have to wait 3-4 weeks, I will feel like google mislead me about this Nexus 7 replacement process.

Same thing through office Depot. They do next day shipping though but they do that ludicrous credit card hold. Probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard of and makes me not want to order online anymore. Walking into a store you don't pay shipping nor get a hold on your card. Very very inconvenient.

My issue is that there are many other online vendors that handle things fine... mainly Amazon.com. How google is handling this issue is terrible. "oh man, phones are getting flooded, TAKE DOWN THE SUPPORT NUMBER FROM OUR WEBSITE"
I have said this in other threads.... This is the last time I ever buy a device straight from google. Hardware issues can't be their fault 100%, stuff happens... It's how they are handling the problems that is frustrating.

This is what they told me that would happen. I'm still waiting for the RMA email but at least they are sending them out.
Bad news if you're technically buying a new one at zero price. Here in the UK, they've said that pre orders from June 30th are shipping next week, so I'm looking at a week Monday shipment at the earliest. Over a month since the initial order!
On a related note, just how low is this "low speaker volume" problem? I'd say mine isn't the loudest tablet ever, and now I'm wondering if it's possible to get one with louder volume. I have a tiny bit of screen separation and was going to keep mine (everything else is fine, and my screen's just the tiniest bit higher on the left than the right). However, if the volume is lower than it should be...
Also, anybody notice headphone volume also isn't very loud? Just loud enough to be acceptable, but not loud enough to be too loud. I'm used to devices starting to get too loud at about 75%.

So I called Google this morning, yes on a Sunday, and was getting ready for one of those phone fights (well more like an argument over the phone, the kind you have when you call your cell provider for additional charges or handset replacement). We all hate those calls because they end up with bad news most of the time. Anyways my new toy, the NEXUS 7, started to make little creaking noises, like when you step on hard wood floors, every time I dragged my finger towards the left side of the screen(holding it portrait). I was reading online about all those problems they were having and was sad to see that mine was like some others I seen online. I was disappointed and to add more to it it started bleeding light on both sides but more on the left. So back to the call. I was expecting for an automated message or a long menu that was going to end up telling me to call during businesses hours. To my surprise I was on hold for like 5 minutes and talked to a real person that was so pleasant to talk to. I stated my reason for calling, he asked for my Goggle account and said "sorry for the inconvenience we will send out a new one to you and you'll get a label with return information to send the bad unit back". I was speechless............ no fight, no wait, no long story, no problem at all. Dam today is a great day. Great Sunday.
So I just wanted to say if you got a bad unit Google will happily replace it. I'm sure its going to take like a week or two because their sold out but hey, I'm not complaining. Just call the NEXUS help line bellow and that's it.

But you have to wait until a "tech" reviews the case though and they will send you an RMA email right? Because I did the same thing last night and was told I will be contacted by someone who reviews the case...

I just gave Google a call after reading your post and got a rep in under a minute. I told him my N7 had the screen separation issue and he said they'd start the replacement process no problem. He also said that the 16 GB model being backordered wouldn't delay the shipment of my replacement.

I had the same problem but 1000 tomes work screen was jumbles and rotating and screwed and they shipped it out Friday over night and I'll get it Monday from what I know they have a "secret stash" so they can handle any faulty units.
So I requested an RMA Thursday night for the screen lift issue and finally got the instructions for the replacement unit this morning. I'm wondering, has anyone had their replacement unit shipped out yet? I'm in no rush, but the instructions do say I have 21 days from replacement "purchase" to return the faulty unit. I was hoping to keep using my current unit until the replacement unit arrives, but with the shipping fiasco going on, I wonder if I'll get it before the 21 days is over.
I was confused about that.
The email I got from Google Play support says I have 21 days from the date of the delivery:
RETURN YOUR ORIGINAL DEVICE
You’ll need to return your original device to our service center. Additional charges for the full price of the device will be incurred if our service center doesn’t receive your original device within 21 days of your replacement delivery

But my Google Play receipt for the replacement says 21 days from the date of the order:

When you factor in the number of people on these forums having issues vs the millions they manufacturered and sent out, it's still a small blip on the radar. At least they're taking care of the issue instead of just sending everybody a rubber case to band-aid the problem.:laugh::laugh:
Yeah, for those who don't know, their support line, at least in the US, is open 24/7. I don't know if it's temporary for the launch or permanent, but the rep I talked to the other day said call whenever you feel like it and to try to avoid peak times.
I was so surprised with their customer service too! They were...pleasant. Crazy, I know lol I've called twice in the last couple of weeks and the reps were extremely helpful both times. Google gets a +1 for the good customer service! (even if it does take forever to get connected to somebody lol)

Below is the followup email I got within the 24-48 hour window they specified when I called in for an RMA.
Hi,
A replacement device will be provided and your original device will be inspected if you elect to send it in for warranty replacement.
*Important*
RETURN YOUR ORIGINAL DEVICE
You’ll need to return your original device to our service center. Additional charges for the full price of the device will be incurred if our service center doesn’t receive your original device within 21 days of your replacement delivery.
UNDERSTAND YOUR WARRANTY COVERAGE
Additional charges up to the full price of your device will be incurred if our service center determines that the damage to your original device isn’t covered under warranty. Prior to ordering your replacement and sending your device for inspection, please refer to the warranty card in the Nexus 7 packaging or visit www.asus.com for details on the ASUS limited warranty.
If you elect to send in your device and receive a replacement after reviewing the warranty, the first step is to return your device using the attached RMA.
Please package the item carefully. The original packing materials may be used. If you are returning fewer items than in the original shipment, please add effective packing materials to ensure the box and the enclosed device(s) are adequately protected from movement inside the shipping box.
For detailed instructions on preparing an item for return, please visit our Help Center at http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2462890
To initiate the return of your original device you'll need to do the following:
1. Print the attached Return Authorization form
2. Insert the Return Authorization form into the outer UPS box.
3. You'll receive a UPS shipping label attached in a separate email. Check your email spam folder if you don't receive this shipping label within the hour.
4. Print this shipping label and affix it to the UPS box.
5. Take your package to any location of The UPS Store®, UPS Drop Box, UPS Customer Center, UPS Alliances (Office Depot® or Staples®) or Authorized Shipping Outlet near you.
To receive your replacement device free of charge, click the link below to access a personal cart that has been prepared with your replacement device already included. Please note that you must be signed in with the same account used to make your original purchase in order to access the below cart:
[REPLACEMENT CHECKOUT URL]
An authorization for the full price of the replacement device will be placed on your credit card. This means that a portion of your card’s credit limit is held for several days, but no charge is made if your original device is delivered within 21 days and the damage to your device is verified to be covered under warranty.
Regards,
*****

I was confused about that.
The email I got from Google Play support says I have 21 days from the date of the delivery:
But my Google Play receipt for the replacement says 21 days from the date of the order:
I guess I'll do it within 21 days of the order just to be safe.
Anyway, I placed the order for a replacement on the 19th and it hasn't shipped yet.

I was wondering about this as well.
Hi guys,
I know a fair few of us have rejected their parcels because we were unable to cancel orders via Google Play.
My order was returned to Computer 2000 (in the UK) and signed for by them on the 19th, however to date I have received no communication from them and no refund.
Have any of you that have rejected your parcels received your refund or any other communication from Google?
Thanks,
Chris

I never actually received mine as they messed up address label and TNT refused to let me tell them full address and then returned it before I had chance to go to depot to collect. I emailed Google at this point (through order page) on 20th and parcel was signed for by Computer 2000 on 24th so I emailed Google again on 27th, having heard nothing, and have no reply yet. I have managed to pick up a Nexus 7 in Curry's in the meantime so just want my money back.

Not great is it? Mine's been with them for 10 days now (weekend included) and I'd expect to have at least received an acknowledgment e-mail to say they'd received for the parcel.
Chris
Mine has also been back with Google for over a week and no word. If my phone call to them is in event full I will just file a claim with my bank.

Yes I too am having problems getting a refund they have had mine back for a week this can't be write they better get my money back soon or gonna speak to my bank.
Just phoned Google... They will not consider even looking at my case until the 8th August passes. Considering they received it back on the 19th July, I'd call it appalling service.
At least Amazon and the like acknowledge receipt of a returned parcel - Google's complete lack of communication has ruined the customer experience. I'll never order anything direct from them again.

What did you order from them?

16gb google nexus 7.
Same situation here. I might just log a request with the credit card company anyway, force them to act.
I only actually got charged 4 days after my delivery refusal had returned to the depot somewhere in leicester (this was a separate charge to the other three or four pending charges that had fallen off my credit card) . I spoke to someone last Friday who said it would be sorted ASAP, he said it was the first time he had seen this happen, but nothing done since.
I got one from GameStop on the first day they were available. Google received my pre-order back on the 19th. I called Google & they said it could take up to 14 days to process the returned order & issue a refund. Still waiting...

That's what I was told 14days but somehow I don't think it will happen.
it said 5-6 weeks for the refund to get processed on the site.

Pretty sure that's illegal here. Where did you find it? Want to see if they are trying to say that for the UK too!

Mine was recalled before delivery, after 5 phoncalls to Google asking about what happened I was told that it was recalled over quality issues, I was told that it was a blessing is disguise, money went out to Google on the 18th and still waiting for a refund, tomorrow I am calling my bank to have the charge reversed, I am disgusted at Google service, I will never buy from them again.
Once I get my money back i am buying Asus transformer.

You have to be refunded within 30 days of you notifying of the order cancellation, regardless of whether you have returned item or not.

I am in the US and I refused the delivery about a week ago. I had ordered a case with it and still haven't gotten the case. Back before I had refused the shipment I had sent an email about being able to keep the case and just send the Nexus 7 back. But then I found a different case and decided I would just refused it all. Well then they split the order and the case is in limbo somewhere I guess. Anyway, I got an email a coupel of days ago with RMA instructions for the Nexus 7. It was in response to my question about opening the package and taking out the case. So I sent them back the tracking numbers what showed the refused delivery and acceptance back at the shipping origin. I also asked if they could just not send the case that is still pending and just issue me my refund. I haven't heard back.
It was easy to refuse delivery, I have the free MyUPS service. When I got the package shipment notification from UPS I went in and had them hold it at the location. Since I probably wouldn't be home when it was delivered I would have had to drive it there anyway. There wasn't any option to refuse. It seemed the day before or maybe it was the day it was it the location I looked at the delivery options and there was a "Refuse" option. I chose that and they sent it back. Didn't have to drive out of my way to the UPS location or anything. I plan on doing the same if they ever send me the case.

But it's not a cancelled order. You rejected their shipment. They can take as long as they please to "process it"
And for those of you thinking of filing with your credit card company or bank: good luck. Banks and credit card companies are notorious for providing extremely slow assistance for disputed claims. They will likely go to the retailer and give them like 60 days or something insane like that to respond before they do anything.
contact number for Google (UK)?
Sounds like I am just one of many who is experience a total lack of service or concern from Google?
TNT didn't manage to show up when I was home and wasn't allowed to deliver to the neighbour (although the package my misses got from TNT the same day was dropped off just fine); TNT failed to bring out the package when I arranged for redelivery (5 days after the initial drop-off) and only other option would have been a Saturday delivery, which turned out to be a no-go due to the Olympics (yes, I am located smack in the middle of London .. "yay").
Had no option but refuse delivery and have so far heard NOTHING!
Over the course of the last week I have used the google wallet email form 5 times and not received ANY response; I have tried the phone number on top of the page twice and gotten a fax/modem (+353 (1) 436 1001).
I am at this moment beyond pissed!
ANYONE have a valid (UK) number to contact these people?
I would have expected A LOT better service from a company like Google, but when (if?) I ever get my £209 back, I guess they've thoroughly proven to me that I'll be better off with an iPad - by the time the 7" iPad will be on the market anyway.
Oh well *sigh*
Hey guys just passing along my horror story from the Google Play Store. So I pre-ordered my Nex7 on June 29th cool, got it on July 17th. Opened it up and started charging it. It doesn't accept a charge from the included charger, or so I tried 3 other chargers no go, tried from my computer to the tablet and it lets me access the internal storage like it should but alas, no charging. Factory reset no go, long story short I'm not a Android noob my any means and tried everything because honestly who wants to mail back their new toy? Called support waited on hold for a little over an hour which was expected because I'm sure a ton of people were calling asking where theirs as at so it is what it is. So it gets sent to the "Internal" team for RMA and exchange and they will Email me my UPS stuff. So 4 days later I get the email (July 21st) and I ship it back on the following Monday (July 23rd) and order the new one the same day which the pre-authorized my card for the 249.99 in case I never send back my original makes sense ok. Normally the new one is mailed out in 3 days or so. So Thursday (July 26th) rolls around and Google gets my old tablet and mine still hasn't shipped. So finally on Monday (July 29th) I call to ask if something is wrong or whatever because I still haven't seen anything on my replacement tablet and I get the explanation of it's "Stuck" and the "Internal" team is looking into it. So at that point I'm curious what stuck actually is? I've sent in my old one and it was received and I've ordered my new one with was pre-authorized. She didn't know but assured me I'd get an email VERY soon on it. So fast forward to today (August 13th) I've called once a week to inquire about it and I'm still being polite about it because I've had to work customer service when I was younger and I know these poor people get freaked out on by tons of callers even though they didn't do anything wrong. Today I was told that apparently the ENTIRE internal team was in a meeting until noon today (Right?) and the CSR I talked to today would personally talk to a few of them because it's been 3 weeks since I put in my order for a replacement and it SHOULD take roughly 3 day (I'm not holding my breath).
So basically I'm failing to see the problem here. They received my old one, they've charged me for a new one, but it hasn't been sent. I'm not understanding why it takes 3 weeks to solve this problem on my it's "Stuck" when it should take about 30 seconds to look at my account and see everything is as it should be and send the new one.
On a side note I never activated it on my account so it's not like there's a $20 credit they're trying to sort out or anything it's all about as strait forward of an exchange as you can get. I've already purchased a Nexus 7 from Sams Club (Before mine ever came in the mail) and this one was suppose to be for my girl friend and now she's mad because she loves mine and wants her own. I doubt even if this gets resolved today I'll ever buy from them again and if it doesn't get resolved I guess I'll return it and drive 10 minutes to Walmart and buy one.
Sorry if it seems like a rant but I figured I'd just share my current experience with the Play Store.
why not just ask google for a refund and buy it locally?

he'll wait a long, long time for his money back if he does that. Day 15(in terms of business/working days) since i refused delivery of my tablet and still no refund in sight.
Check this out I have been submitting a return request every monday or tuesday for 3 straight weeks. Absolutely nothing. I hate waiting on the phone but I guess I will have to. Why do they have the form there when they never answer the requests? I'm not picky about customer service but this is terrible.

Ten_fold is correct, it will take 2 weeks to get my money back even though they've had my original device in their hands for a "Pending" exchange for almost a month now. I'm not really picky or anything but this whole thing is pretty nuts. Honestly at my job if I did stuff like this I'm pretty sure I'd be fired pretty quick especially since this isn't even anything special just mail the Fing thing out.

I'm not super stressed about it, but having £168 of my money taken away from me for almost a month, for an item i technically never even received is beyond a joke really.
I refused my order from the Play Store as instructed by Google when they wouldn't let me cancel. A month on and I'm still waiting for my refund.

It's the Google Wallet transaction page.
I had a very similar experience with Logitech, and after I sent a formal written complaint they sent me a free G700 gaming mouse ($100 value).
I'd recommend actually reaching out to Google in a formal and professional manner. See if you can find the email address for a customer service member, or someone a little higher up the food chain.
I shattered my screen a month after getting my phone. Living in Colombia I knew I would have to do an advance replacement fee and send the phone to my friend and his wife. They were coming to visit in a few weeks. I called support and explained to them the situation. They agreed to send a phone to my friends home and when he came to colombia I would give him the broken one. Well 4 days went by and no tracking for my phone that was supposed to be 1 day shipping. I called back and they said it would ship that day. Another day and no shipping. I call again and now they tell me they don't even have blue in stock. So they offer a white one 64 gb. Keep in mind I had 15 phones delivered to my friend to bring to me, including some iphones 6S's. My friends arrive with all my phones and well an empty box from motorola. I also notice the advance fee dropped off my credit card. So I assume with all the confusion from support over the non stock phone they did a standard replacement, which totally screws me over. So I call them after the weekend and they tell me they have to report it to fedex. Well fedex calls me and says the package was signed for, I say of course because a package was delivered. Now keep in mind this is all back from November.
So I start emailing everyone from Motorola, twitter, facebook just trying to get some real answers.
Here is the response I got today
"Hi Greg.
The news is not good. The package was shipped with a 64GB Nexus 6, and we have the serial number. Since it was signed for, FedEx is less likely to approve a claim, but that will be your best bet.
The downside is that we are going to have to charge you for the phone we sent. If you send in your broken phone we can release that hold, but unfortunately you are going to be charged for the repair cost in any event.
We've been holding this open so we can't extend this indefinitely. We are able to hold it open for two weeks -- if you can return by then we'll release the hold on the phone we sent.
- Matt"
The funny part is and I have told them a few times that there is no hold and you would only drop the hold if you sent an empty standard replacement box. They seem to ignore this comment every time. What makes it even more difficult is, Chase Sapphire was going to fix the phone but now with all this crap who knows what will happen. I googled motorola support empty box and found one other person tweet to Motorola Support with the same issue. I am curious has anyone else had issues with doing an RMA with these guys?
What do expect to gain by posting this here?

this is a long shot but call and ask Fed-ex what the actual weight of the package vs what the customer printed on the shipping label. I used to work for a logistics company here in California and we would re weigh the freight before forwarding it out of our warehouse. I know Fed-Ex international also do this but i am not sure about domestic. If you can get that information from Fed-ex it might help support your claim with moto.
Good luck, hope it works out for you.
Thanks, I'll call them again today.
