Just upgraded to 4.0.4 using kies, is the kernel safe? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious if this kernel also contains the brickbug and if I should return to speedmod or other friendly kernel. The one I got installed by kies is now:
[email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jul 4

No stock ICS kernel is safe.. Only Custom kernels with the MMC_CAP_ERASE disabled are safe.

Of Course YES if u will not flash any rom.... If u r thinking to do so..Think once again..It can cost u around 600$..

Well that was my question. So the samsung kernel does have the brickbug in it still? So I should flash the speedmod kernel which has the erase disabled?

there have been isolated reports of getting brick using CF kernel as well. Though it has yet to be confirm on the how's and why's it got bricked.
Generally still. kernels that have the MMC_Cap_Erase command disabled should be okay.

This issue is with the cwm. Exe file only so far, which I believe is a shortcut root to rooting on ics. All kernels that have cwm baked in are ok.

Very true!
Bricked mine last week trying to installed cooked ROM.
Send it back to Samsung for repair under warrenty and they kindly fixed it for me.
Also installed ICS 4.0.4 for me too (It went with ICS 4.0.3).
Got back in 5 day including shipping back and forth. They even sent the bag for it.
Pretty happy with service.

You mean cwm.zip? BTW if people flash stock GB, root it using Zergrush Exploit and then flash CM9 or any other ROM with a safe kernel for that matter i think this issue wouldn't be there.

Cm kernels will not work with tw based roms, only with aokp/aosp, and vice versa. You'll have to read up on the kernel pages themselves on which rom types they support.
So flash to gb first, perform full wipe, root and install cwm, then you can install custom kernels and roms from there. Never install from ics kernel, only downgrade to gb to be safe.

Most of the rom files split down into three files but If you place the original tar file into pda, odin sorts out the partitions correctly for you.
All stock gb kernels are safe from emmc superbrick bug, safe to perform wipes.

Strongly not recomented. Use abssy kernel only to do factory / data reset.
Even the speedmod kernel developer himself also not able to guarantee anything.

Safe way of rooting?

Hi together!
I am totally new to Galaxy Note and I like to root my device.
Since from what I have red, it can be dangerous to flash CWM on a certain ICS firmware, kernel related.
Now I would like to know if there is a safe way of rooting, no matter what firmware I am on.
Please correct me if I am wrong:
If I flash some old GB firmware from Samware with ODIN, I would not have this "unsafe" Kernel from ICS.
Is this even possible?
If so, I can root my device and can use CWM without any risk.
So far, is this working or do I have thinking mistake in it.
Please advice me!

Struggling To Flash Rom

Hi guys,
Now I had no problems flashing a custom ROM on my HTC Desire but my Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 is causing me a huge headache
I would like to flash Jelly Bean but I'm struggling.
My Note is rooted and I have purchased Mobile Odin off the Play store, using Mobile Odin has not resulted in a successfull flash, yet. lol
What's even more confusing is that the kernel version on my Note has changed but no visible settings can be seen.
Your help is very much appreciated.
Thanks
Stefan
1. How are you flashing in mobile Odin?
2. What rom are you trying to flash?
3. What exactly happens?
4. Are you sure you have full root (DL an app from play store to check)?
