When I registered me device I saw a bunch of music show up in my google music cloud.
Not a fan of this, now I have to go delete this stuff. They should make it optional, not automatic.
Not too hard to simply delete the stuff, even if it's a nuisance. They add a free book and a movie as well.

oh no, you got free stuff boo hoo. search by last added and delete takes 30 seconds
Have you tried deleting it? You can't from the device or from your phone, you have to do it from the web.
And its bugged, so you have to delete, refresh, delete, etc.
And yes it is a PITA, now my recent queue is all screwed up on my phone.
Heh, this is a top 1st World problem.
I am amazed at some of the things people complain about on the internet.
I just added them all to a playlist - maybe I will find something I like??
P.S. one of the free songs is over 39 minutes long

Hello all, i just bought an android G1 from a friend, when it came it was already installed cyanogen mod, then i thought it should of rooted, (by the way i dont know how to root or how to check if its rooted) i am very new on this platform so i have many problems and questions but for now , i tried to change google account which was my frends account to use g1 with all 100 percenti but i couldnt find any proper way to switch my google account, then i finally found hard reset thing and did it, after all i could log on my google on my g1 and i felt a bit shocked with all those missing parts on the android platform as a winmo user before, even my HTC artemis had better skills on internet browsing such flash support over skyfire and easy wifi DNS change and have free web browsing without banned pages.. anyways i was trying to install some games and apps from the market till i got the notification of low memorry ohhh ****, its a nightmare to have hundreds of apps but no place to install, how stupid but then i found a solution on the net to help installin apps directly to your sd card, while i was following this steps on the xda forum pages, i restarted my fone again after having the img file launched with 1.4 version, then i realized all my installed apps icons were lost, then i saw they were gone from my g1 but when i go to app store, they are still on my downloaded programms list, but they are not in storage, thats becase now i cant install them again because they are seen already installed, how can i fix this problem guys , and thanks for the help already.!!!!!!1
Hey, thanks for steppin' up! No matter how snarky I get, or how nice I am, some people just don't get it. It's always great when someone does get it.
If you have a cyanogenmod, then you have root.
How can i get my apps back from the market when they show apps are already installed?
I guess I'd uninstall and reinstall from within the Market App. Open "Market," click on a listing of an app that says it's installed but you can't see in your app drawer (the program for the Home screen and app drawer is call Launcher.apk... apk is the equivalent of exe, more or less). on the bottom of the screen there should be two buttons, Open and Unistall. I'd uninstall and reinstall the ones you want that way.
Yeah, I miss WinMo, too. I still use PhatPad in my old phone and PC. But the capacitive screen really is nicer for fingers, and I'm more addicted to XDA and hacking phones than I am to having a hard-core useful phone (although the native ouTube App beats any I've found for WinMo, and I actually use the native contacts app). I got tired of the bugs, too, since they'd hose the whole OS and force you to decide to reboot. Android just blows past an error and lets it not work, but keeps the OS up. When I'd run out of memory or something in WinMo on an incoming call, the phone would freeze, and then there's a 3 minute reboot. In Android, it just slows down so I get less ring time to answer, but I can call back right away, and it boots in two minutes.
Java makes really nice interfaces and games, too.
I think it'll be about a year or so and Android will be running on par with WinMo (WinPh?) with Flash and alternative browsers apps, and has a few more things to offer that other smartphone OS's can't. It's fun finding them. It's been really exciting watching the progress, and how hard people work for little or no money, just because it's open source.
Oh, and PhatPad was $44. My current Note app, NoteEverything was $2. I miss the stylus and making animations, but that's it. I certainly don't miss Activesync.
yes you are right, but the buttons in the market of that application, are both missing, inactive, you cannot click both of them, thats why i cant uninstall or install or open the app.. i still wonder how to clear the app store cache without factory reset or hard reset which is a really long way to follow.
This has been pissing me off for quite some time. I hear Android's RAM is managed internally and that there's nothing to worry about - task killers are redundant.
I understand the logic, I understand the reasoning.
It just won't receive any of my understanding because this is frankly wasting too much time in the course of a day.
What happens due to this "internal management" is that programs I want to keep alive and return to in the state I left them isn't happening. Let's take Aldiko (or we could say the browser, pdf reader, music player, take your pick), the ebook reader; it can take up to 30 seconds to load a book, uses a lot of RAM, and opens at the page I was at.
Now imagine that I'm getting a phonecall, or an SMS, maybe even need to check the mail, or the bus-times, perhaps needing to use the browser. The RAM dips below the line and Android kills a process. 3 guesses to which process it killed to free RAM? You got it, Aldiko. The one that it took me 30 seconds to open. The one I was using, the one I actually cared about.
Checking the list of programs running I see that Aldiko's there, just not with an open book. What I also see is 987645984549 programs that I don't use, never activate, and serves absolutely no purpose on the phone, waiting for me to start them again for the second time in the phone's lifetime (which isn't happening). They're hogging RAM for some godforsaken reason, still sitting there doing nothing, not being used. Yet it killed Aldiko. Or any of the other processes I actually need, want and use.
Why does Android behave so ridiculously? How can I fix this? Installing a task killer helped somewhat, it keeps the stupid programs off so it doesn't close the ones I need all the time, yet the more frequently I run it (increasing the uptime for Aldiko), the harder it is on the battery because the programs keep popping up. Despite never being used.
Or maybe I want to use them at some point in the future, but not all the time. Not more than once a week. It doesn't matter. They shouldn't be allowed to interfere with the programs I actually use.
Is there some way for the android management to be a little less random, and a bit more like Windows Mobile, where a program stayed on as long as I wanted it to (unless there was a crash...)?
You could use Swap memory, if you REALLY want to fiddle (like what Windows/Linux/OSX does), and maybe tweak configs. It might be just possible to "swapon"
But the reason it's done is to provide quicker performance. Aldiko SHOULD be coded to remember the last book anyway, and does it REALLY take 30secs to open? That sounds like bull to me (I just tried it, and it took maybe 5 secs). Granted Aldiko could open the last book being read by default, but you could contact the aldiko developers for a setting to do that.
Either way, swap memory would be a prereq to doing this, because if you don't have enough RAM, apps will crash. So try that first
Hehe, yeah, it does take 30 secs. Maybe a big book or something. It was just an example. There's also the browser losing the pages it was on, music player losing place where played, pdf reader, and so on.
I'll check out out, but I'm not keen on rooting though.
Thanks for replying

I usually keep my N1 at around 30-50 MB free of internal storage, which is enough to have everything I want loaded on, but it's tough to free up much more space than that without uninstalling apps or moving to SD the apps that shouldn't be moved.
So anyway, today my phone suddenly dropped down to 13 MB left and the culprit appeared to be Browser data - suddenly over 46 MB! The cache was already cleared. I went through with Root Explorer and found that the largest file was located in:
/data/data/com.android.browser/app_thumbnails
For some reason a 31.5 MB file had made it into this directory, and Android clearly is not smart enough to clean it up. Anyway I deleted the offending file via Root Explorer and now it's happy.
Any thoughts on how to keep the browser from ballooning like this? I didn't want to delete all browser data because of bookmarks, cookies etc.
because in 2.2 froyo google updated the browser to temporarily store the entire contents of the page you are browsing into memory such that if you lost data connection, the page could be reloaded without the data connection. so when you have a few tabs open in the browser, or a very large site open, all contents are temporarily being stored for just in case.
if you were to close out all the tabs, kill the browser, all would return to normal. often times my browser hits up over 80MB because i have tons of pages open. i just kill all my tabs and the low space warnings go right away.
its a trade off, i dont mind it cause its better than the old way, but the trade off is we suffer with low storage.
I'll try closing tabs next time, but I swear I'd already closed all the tabs and still the bloat persisted across reboots...

also delete the browser cache if you want to clear the pron vid, that stuff can take up quite a bit of space

Click to collapse
when this happens to me, occasionally i kill all the tabs and it takes a small bit of time for it to appear back to normal, but never more than a minute or so. but if i close the tabs, then force close the browser, it for sure instantly clears the used space back.
if its happening to you across reboots, then might be something completely different.
FYI i havent cleared my browser cache since July last year hehh, and i use the browser like a madman. i wonder how much space i'd get back if i did?
I find that when space is low, it automatically empties the browser cache to zero. In the scenario I described above, the cache was already empty.

Okay I apologize beforehand if this has been answered somewhere else in the forums. I don't have much time to look around on the forums like I used to.
I have an HTC HD7 and I like to keep my phone up to date and whatnot, but I've been reluctant to because of all the data I lose when I do the updates. Things like contacts aren't an issue, but the Zune Marketplace doesn't reinstall your apps like the Android Marketplace did. As well as loosing all of my apps, my music is gone as well. Which with my very large music library, it gets to be a huge hassle to pick out the music I want on my HD7 each time a new update comes out, whereas with Android It was all stored on my SD card and nothing was lost, the same issue for my pictures. Also I've read a bit on XBMod's cab sender, and it seems like none of the developers seem to use it, that or they're having problems with it.
So, with that said, I was wondering if there were any apps or workarounds to back up my apps/music/pictures on my phone and restore them post update.
Any sort of help or direction is greatly appreciated.
If you update officially, via Zune, then everything is retained. It is only if you go down the route of Hard/Soft SPL'ing and using custom made ROM's that you have that issue. It is also probably fair to say, that if restoring everything post update is a pain/bothers you, then perhaps following the route of Customs ROM's and multiple, quick updates is not for you?
I know that, and the hd7 isn't exactly my first rodeo, I started with my touch pro 2 and got addicted and developed ORD xD. Since then ive had an HTC aria, and a dual boot hd2. Now with my HD7 I still share the passion, ive just noticed that it's a bit more of a hassle because of the way the OS works. I will continue to update either way, but I was searching for an alternative route to post flash restoration. Its mostly the music that I wish I could keep, because as I stated I have a HUGE collection.
I hear yeah I wish more rom cookers would issue update cabs as well as a fresh install nbh file. I've mentioned it in dotcompt deepshining rom thread since he has the xbox/yuki certa cooked in. That way nothing is lost, it updates just what need to be just like Zune does.
On the other hand there is a program that backs up 3rd party apps but that's only for like save data and ****. You would have to install the app first... For instance angry birds progress. That way you don't have to do it all over...

Yeah, that would make things simpler. Lol and i saw that, but it wasn't what im looking for. I really just want a way to easily reinstall my apps, and music without having to find them all or going through my collection every time. Cause out of the whole process, if you use your phone as your mp3 player like i do then you'll end up spending a lot of time doing the same thing.
you can put the music of your choice in the Music Folder (Windows 7) and check sync all items in Zune. In this way you wont have to prepare the music collection time and again.
I use this method for retaining my music, videos and pictures. I have prepared a list of apps I always use and it takes my 20-30 minutes to download and install, but its worth the fun
Hope this helps.
That would work, but I use Zune as my primary music player. So all of my collection shows there. I was considering copying just the music I want to my laptop and using that as my "dock" for my windows phone. But I was just wanting to see what other options I had before I went to that.
I have pretty much the same issues... Me and my girl both have hd7's. Both use them for mp3 players in the cars...
I've tried making two folders and just changing th sync folder but for some reason Zune doesn't seem to recognize it that quick. Haven't figured out why but even after restarting Zune sync folder doesn't change even though settings did...
Wish Zune had options to sync two or more different devices or at least direct drag and drop from windows explorer to little phone icon at bottom of Zune.

The solution I use for quickly picking and re-syncing the music after a flash is to build a playlist in Zune specifically for the music I want to keep on the phone. Then only sync that playlist. Gets trickier for podcasts and if you download directly to the phone from Zune and "backsync" it though
Hi y'all.
I have a couple of playlists on my Edge that will not reorder the music when editing the order correctly. For example, I will drag the song that I wish to move up towards its desired placement, but the phone will glitch and move that song back to its original position while moving a song nearby the desired area up or down a few slots instead. This is only happening with the first two playlists I created. I suppose I could recreate the playlists from scratch and hope for the best, as the newer playlists have yet to have this problem, but I hate to go through the hassle. My girlfriend's playlist, for example, has over 200 songs in it and would take a lengthy amount of time to recreate in order. I've scanned other forms all over the internet to no avail. It appears as though I am the only one suffering from this problem. I've restarted the phone and have done the other basics, but they have had no effect on the problem whatsoever.
Any help would be VERY much appreciated, as this problem has been quite annoying. Love the phone otherwise.
I've actually figured out a very time-consuming and annoying solution, but it's the only one I know of thus far:
Hook up your phone to your computer via USB cable and open it up. You're going to see a bunch of folders; double-click on the one that says 'Playlists' and it will give you a list of your current playlists. Double-click on the ones you wish to rearrange. A little box with the list of songs is going to pop up, and from there, you can use the arrows to place the song in its desired spot. The super annoying part is that you cannot drag and drop the songs to their desired positions- which would make it far less time-consuming- but you have to use the arrows to do it. Once done, simply click 'Ok,' and the changes will be saved on your phone.
Good luck.
