When the announcement first came out of the N7, I was immediately turned off by the lack of a 32gb, given that my Playbook is the 32gb model and I have about 10gb of space left. I was going to purchase the 8gb version and just not keep any movies or tv shows on the tablet, but just like when buying a TV, ALWAYS buy the next size up! LOL So I did and am glad..without any media, just the apps/games that I normally use on my Android phone and HP Touchpad running CM9, I have 5.3gb left on my N7! I would've been screwed had I gone with the 8gb.
So, any regrets here on their 8gb purchase?
Would I prefer 16GB? Yes. Do I regret buying 8GB? No. For my use it's fine. I have countless GB's of free Cloud storage and I can transfer stuff back and forth on my N7 with a couple of clicks.

I just have a little over 3GB free, but I have Sygic maps of California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Mexico loaded as well as two very data heavy birding apps, some Kindle books, and a couple of Audible books. Since my idea of gaming is dominoes and I have a 16GB Kingston Wi-Drive should I decide to watch a movie 8GB is plenty for me.
I thought 8gb of memory would suffice, but I for got to take in account music cache and CWM backups I would prefer the 16gb model, but I can live with the 8gb

This, I have a bunch of games and I have and all the apps I use and have a bunch of space left, this is the reason I picked up the 8 gig version, just didnt need 16, these apps take up very little space, its the big games like GTA that take a nice chunk, my games are mostly small like cut the rope and Angry birds space, biggest game I have is Mass Effect which I believe is around 300 mb, not regretting at all.
I don't mind my 8gb. I don't really have much on it at the moment. Don't plan on using it as a media player on the go. I have my phone for that. Movies I can delete as needed etc. And for backups and such, I have a home FTP/Samba server so I can just use my own personal cloud for things like that since I am on WiFi anyway.
Nope, not one bit. Will be using cloud storage heavily with it. The 5 + something gigs leftover will do just fine.

I mostly just signed up for the free accounts of googledrive, dropbox, box.net, sugar sync, sky drive and between them all I have enough space for what I need. Some is used for backups some for things I want to use on my phone/tablet.
Sent from my Transformer while the N7 is lost in the Play Store Black Hole.
16gb N7 UK ordered 3rd July.
With me only storing usually 2 backups at any given time and no locally stored media.
8GB will do me fine.
I am happy with my 8 GB Nexus 7. I have it rooted and am using Stickmount with USB-OTG and a 16 GB USB stick for my movies, etc. It works very well and movies play smoothly. I have details and pics on my review of the Nexus 7.
http://terracode.com/Asus_Nexus_7/Nexus7_Review_and_Tweaks_P1.html
most of my music/movies are on my home server so getting 8gb was just fine for me.
After seeing only 4GB left after installing few apps and games, I started regretting getting the 8GB and that's why I decided to sell it and get 16GB version. Since I plan on keeping this tablet for a while (along with my TF700), its better to have the most memory that I can have upfront.
@terracode
Can you move the Google movies onto USB and still be able to watch them? How much space does the freebie Transformer flick take up?
Does CWM work from USB? That would save 1.3GB space of Nandroid backup.
coming from a kindle fire, I knew not to make this mistake again.

Same here, although replace cloud with streaming over samba share. And I don't keep games installed if I'm not going to be actively playing them. I have enough of a problem with console and PC games piling up.

And IMO offline storage is more useful, especially on a Wifi-only device, but also for anyone else with a limited data plan on their phone or data connection capable tablet. Also, pretty sure a $9 16GB USB stick is more cost effective than pretty much any 16GB cloud storage option.

There is actually a thread over in the Themes and Apps section that the developer made. He is really open to input. I like the app, as I don't have to root to use a flash drive with videos saved on it.

Well, isn't that a kick in the teeth, because I just rooted last night simply to use USB OTG. At first I kind of felt "meh" over the read only factor, but then I got to thinking, am I really going to need to transfer from tablet to external media? I'd much rather transfer from external media to tablet, do what I need to do with watching whatever content I may have, then simply delete it off the tablet... no reason to transfer it back when it's the same darn file. Some people may have uses for having a 2 way setup, but I'm sure this will fit the bill for a lot of people. I do find it a considerable bummer that ext* file systems aren't supported, but meh.
Thank you thank you thank you!

i dont understand the bickering of cloud data. it is nice but i have 20 hours of plane flights coming up. cloud data will not be a very good solution for me compared to plugging a hard drive into my tablet.
Being a non-root user, this is great news for me. I always used splashtop to watch my videos directly from my computer, though it gave me no trouble, I would much rather have the movie with me.
Can't wait till the developer puts it back up.
What is the name of the app? Can anyone share the APK?

It will continue to be their flagship phone until the October-December time frame when they usually release their newer models. Remember that Larry Page recently visited LG where they proposed their ideas just like last year, because that's how the nexus program works. I don't expect Google to release a new flagship phone until the end of the year especially since they just discussed a deal.

It's a bit tough for those of us with large-ish music collections. Particularly if we rip at 320kbps bit rate. I'm constantly bumping against the limit. And I don't even have games on my N4. I'd gladly welcome a 32gb or 64gb variant of the next one.
Actually, I hope they stick with the "all glass" format. I think it's sexy.

Unfortunately, that's why I had to give up my N4. I live and work out in the boonies and unless I can store it on my device, most of the time I don't have access to it.
And, since Google did come out with a 32 GB N7 and dropped the 8 GB model after a while, I'm hoping they do the same with the N4. If they do, I'll be blowing my money on an another N4.

Cloud is not always an option. To be honest it makes listening to music annoying at best. Mainly if you live in a place where your data bounces in and out. As for unlimited T-mobile they still throttle you at a point so still not a viable option. Also cloud storage is still not accepted in alot of business so having a good amount of internal storage is a good thing.
We will not see an SD card slot until the average person get smarter. So dont count on it anytime soon

Reality is simple, cloud storage is where we are all being steered toward. If you can't embrace it, or afford one of the cheap unlimited data packages offered, do yourself and everyone else a favor and buy a 64gb ipod. It floors me that people still feel the need to have 30 gigs of music on their phone.

Why give up on convenience? it just requires a lot more work to delete and add the music you want to listen to today. Also, it's not only for music. People store games, applications, photos, videos etc on their phones too and 16/32 GB can be filled pretty fast with that stuff.
Sure, some things are "moving to the cloud", which doesn't mean that every new trend that's emerging somewhere is good. The "cloud" has way too many flaws to be considered an alternative to any kind of local storage.
First and foremost, there are a lot of privacy concerns.
Are you really going to confide all your private stuff to some company that is most likely based in another country where you have no or hardly any control about what really happens with all your data? Also, most companies are going to hand out information about you to governments without questioning it.
Furthermore, what happens if such company gets hacked? All your intimate stuff will be exposed to potentially malicious people.
Then, there can be loads of problems when you're trying to access your data.
What if your home internet goes down? Or you are in an area with no or only a slow connection? Maybe the host's website is inaccessible? Right, no access to your stuff.
The cloud is way to dependent on 3rd parties and other effects you have no control of. While everyone tries to increase their data's security and accessibility, the cloud is an enormous step backwards.
Last but not least, what if the cloud provider goes out of business or gets shut down by law enforcement like Megaupload did some time ago? Thousands of legitimate users lost all the stuff they entrusted to Megaupload and there is no way for them to get it back any time soon.
tl;dr: Don't blindly follow some obscure trend just because the media or anybody else tells you to.
I don't see a inconvenience, the cloud is a new technology, don't get stuck in the past. As for music and work I have no problems

I have a 64gb sandisk sdxc now, but normally have 24 to 32gb free on it. I typically like to store entire seasons of TV shows on the card and watch them in their entirety on the phone because it's easier than lugging around a laptop to watch shows. If the technology came out, and say it was $150 to $200 or less, and it was a very reputable manufacturer, would you drop that much money on a card? Personally, I would give it some serious thought if it did. If you have any experience in dealing with storage of shows that are over 32gb in size, you know the limitations of the available hardware these days. I'll find myself copying maybe half the season to the card, watching what I have on the phone, then copying the rest over once enough free space has opened up. Another thing to consider, the average ROM size due this phone is 1.5 to 2gb. I typically store roms on my external card too in case I ever need them.

It's all about much they compress it and how many sound channels they encode. I don't have the hardware to rip br. I've seen 30 to 50 GB straight m2ts rips from br that I converted to something more reasonable in size. Say a two to two and a half hour 1080p movie encoded down to around 5k video bitrate. The movie will come in around four gigs tops down from 50gb from the br disc with only stereo audio. Good enough for the hardware I have to watch it on.
Not possible because they dont exist
I have 51 gigs unused on my 64 gig sd card .Over 2500 photos and 23 hd videos and 4 roms and alot of games hd games. 128 gigs is crazy but for the right price
I would buy. You can never have to much memory, im sure I could find some use for that extra space.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
The hardware will support 128 and beyond. Software will as well. Just have to wait for them to go on sale. But yes the hardware will definitely support 128 no problem.
I'd probably get one if it was true class 10 speed. I know I would use the space. I don't put too much music on my phone anymore with Google play music allowing 20,000 songs uploaded. Plus with Google play music service you can listen to any album in full at anytime even if you don't own it. Love this service, blows everything else away.
But movies and torrents take up space fast. With 40mb+ LTE speeds everywhere now it's hard not to want to use it.

On my 64Gb card currently:
2,273 songs (all MP3s at 320kbps) - that's roughly half my entire collection, but it's all the ones I care to have with me
88 ePub/PDF eBooks
1,384 photos (family photo album, not pictures from camera)
3,615 ROMs for various emulators (mostly 8-bits, but a couple of Playstation ISOs too)
25 HD videos (like the photos, not videos from camera)
1,867 high-quality wallpapers (which, ironically, I don't use anymore!)
8 ISOs for DriveDroid including Ubuntu, Windows XP, HawkPE, Hiren's and some others
34 podcasts I've yet to listen to (which reminds me... LOL)
187 Flash files
223 pictures and videos taken with the camera
249 documents (Office docs, text files, etc)
Some app data, but not a lot
With all of that, I still have 14Gb free on the thing!
TL;DR 64Gb does me just fine If the 128Gb was < $50 I probably would, but it'd be overkill.
Can anyone tell the difference between Ultra and Extreme Plus external memory cards? Is it significant?
The 64 gig Extreme Plus says up to 80mb/s and it's $80 retail.
The 64 gig Ultra says up to 30mb/s and it's $45 retail.
I have a regular ole 32 gig memory card and it's time to expand. I'm not spending the money on a 128 gig now. But I'd like to know if spending twice the money for the Extreme is worth it.

Personally no, I won't invest in it for 2 reasons.
1. I don't mind waiting 10 minutes extra to transfer files onto an SD card.
2. There is really no point to it, unless you are doing time sensitive work and need them transfered asap.
