Best Streaming method? - Nexus 7 General

I'm looking for the most efficient way to stream video content from my macbook to my nexus 7, What is the most reliable way to stream my content without having to plug in and sync? I tried vlc direct pro for android but apparently the web interface on vlc 2.0.3 isnt working or something. HELP!
EDIT: Just saw another thread similar to this... SORRY!

I have used AudioGalaxy in the past. Fairly simple and easy to set up and it works with the macbook.

I don't have a mac, but I'm sure plex would work well. It works great for me.

Just did this last night but with a PC but it will work:
- Plex server, WWW.plexapp.com (newest version spits out DLNA so no more transcoding needed most of the time)
- Skifta
- MX Player with the ARM-Neon add on/plugin
DLNA goodness all up in your shizzy

Another vote for Plex. Works great streaming my ~4TB media library.

i cant get plex to recognize my mkv files...
any other servers out there that can handle 720p mkv?

i know this might sound daft....but i use splashtop for streaming content from the lappy to the nexus. It works for all video types and the audio comes through fine aswell

Splashtop streamer is not available for Linux it seems :-[

Another vote for Plex, works great with my file formats, including MKV, just be sure Transcoding is enabled and the computer is fast enough to transcode.

Running Linux. I think I need to get the beta version of plex, but I can't seem to make that happen out of the beta repo I put in my sources

DNLA streaming app

http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...tegory=classic&postPage=4&icid=eng_latest_art
its in the market for free and is pretty sweet if you have dnla devices... too bad this program is not a dlna renderer... that could allow us to stream videos and whatnot (to the gtab) without all the trickery of cifs samba etc...
perhaps dlna will one day support windows media center so that it could stream content. i have an ocur mcard tuner and wmc7, would be cool to control or stream my tuners (ceton infinitv 4 tuner, one mcard) to the gtab (never miss a thing or need to pause if i have to poop, just bring the tab with me lol)
or, use the tab as a "settop box" by dnla streaming (as a media extender) to any tv in the house.
but this app is cool nonetheless, works great with my evo

It does stream to phone
Install XBMC and the Windows app
Then choose remote source on the Android app.
You can even turn on sharing with windows media player.
mind you i didnt get it working with the gtab

UPnPlay works great to receive streams from DLNA machines -- I use it all the time between my XBMC host and my phone or tablet...no SAMBA or CIFS required

win7 does not allow streaming any recorded tv (with cablecard) to anything else but another win7 machine that is part of the homegroup (or media extender)
nonetheless, the new app for dlna is awesome for those of us with capable rendering hardware, samsung tv works great and both audio receivers i have support it just fine.

Playing video from serv

hello,
I just get my xoom and i would like to be able to read video file from my Pc (windows). I don't want a stream software (like orb) I would like to read with moboplayer or another one. I try to use es explorer to access file on the computer but when I launch the video but player as to copy everything before. I try to use cfis manager but it is not working with tiamat 1.3.2.
So if someone get a solution it would be perfect
thks
hmmm...did you load the cifs prior to using conf manager? THat's what i use and it works great. ONly option out there unless you encode your videos for streaming.
I play movies from a pc drive by mounting the drive on the xoom.
Here is a guide I wrote up to get it working.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036316
i use tversity. Prettygoood post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039808
Two things that may simplify the process for you.
Look for an app like Twonkey that will allow UPNP streams. They are NOT converted so the file will need to be a playable file format on the Xoom for it to work. As a bonus Twonkey will allow you to stream video from the Xoom to your PC or UPNP/DLNA capable TV.
Wait for Plex to release their update for the Xoom. This is VERY close to completion, but I can not give you any exact details. Plex makes Orb look like a steaming pile of you know what, with regard to browsing your media library and the quality of the transcoding. As a few lingering bugs get worked out it will also allow for native streaming of the file with no transcode if bandwidth allows.
Yeah so when is plex coming out for xoom? I've been waiting for it since february! patiently, no less! as it is i'm using skifta as a dlna client, but the image is wonky and it doesn't work nearly as well as plex does on my iphone.
You could just, you know, send me the plex beta apk? I already bought it for android. thanks?
I use Ubuntu at home and here is my setup. You can certainly modify it for a Windows box.
I use Coherence as a UPNP server on ly computer. Youcan use Tversity on Windows for a similar service.
On my Xoom, I run an app call UPNP Play, which will find all UPNP severs on your wifi network. I choose the file I want, and play it via Rockplayer.
So far I haven't had any problems. No need for transcoding at all. Most files I tried have worked beautifully. But I haven't tried a h.264 file yet.
Playon has a beta MyMedia function that converts and streams and works pretty well on my Zoom to watch my .avi and mkv files. Not free but it works pretty well and gives you Netflix too.

PlayOn is my top favorite since I can watch shows from Hulu on it
Skifta is my second choice because I use it to stream all other types of contents from my primary media server - http://vortexbox.org

Well we are working on the RC for public release right now. Two major bugs were found in it and are being fixed as I type this. Public release should be right around the corner.
Sorry but I cant hand out the beta apks. Hell I probably should not be telling you that its almost out. I know its been far too long and some are loosing interest, but the wait will be worth it.
thx for all in fact the problem was in the cifs.ko not loaded, now everything work except cfis manager that I have to load from the market (not from the app ) :/
Now i have to find a quick way to encode video (all high profile :/)

Please help, how to view my video files (movies) via wifi

Can anyone tell me the best way to view files, video(movies),pics, music over y wifi network. I've tried various apps like upnp along with mobo player and codec add on but it only plays certain files most of my media is not accesable.
I used to use a laptop and watch everything perfectly from my pc downstairs using the windows library share if only was as easy with my xoom. when i try to acces the library the xoom see's the library but only short video content of all my video camera clips nothing is organized as is on my pc. Please help as there doesnt seem to be any info anywhere, Thanks.
I used mobo and then mx player. I tried BS player and for me it works a lot better. My pics and music are in picasa and Google music.

Install subsonic on your desktop, then the subsonic client on your Xoom. Best streaming solution I've found.

This is the correct answer. I highly recommend it.
I use zumocast. Works great for me. For local files, Rockplayer lite plays everything I throw at it. There is also a pre-Alpha release of VLC for Android out that I use sometimes.

Stream movies from pc to N7 succesfull.

tell me the best wway to stream over wifi movies on my N7..
thnks
Plex..

DLNA/uPNP.. There are plenty of apps on both end to do the job. On the Android side, it will use your existing movie player(s) with a client in the middle to do the DLNA browsing.
Xmbc would be a good start

i have serviio on my pc to share to all the house and then you just need a dlna client. i use imediashare. and use another player to read all kind of sound and video codecs like mxplayer.
I used an NFS Server. Cifs didn't worked very well for me... It always hangs with cifs.
And yes, I mounted the Server shares on 4.2.2.... this is possible with my kernel...
network share folders, use a server app like some said, or just a file manager app to see shared folders on the network and mx player to play
.. um, or again, just install a DLNA server. It's not hard people. Don't have to worry about NFS, CIFS, various network filesystems... It just works.
Two easy solution. Just buy an Asus router with UPnP support, such as the RT-N16. It have usb connection in the back. Connect your harddrive to it, then log into the router menu and enable UPnP. Only thing about this is for some reason when unplug the harddrive to add more files, it didn't update the new files int he library afterward, I had to delete the library files for it to do scan all over.
Or if you want to do it from the PC, there are many apps, but you can use XBMC, add folders to the Videos library, then enable UPnP in the Settings. But you have to keep your PC on all the time.
On your Nexus 7, download XBMC hardware accelerated test build, search for UPnP devices in the Videos section. Or download VPlayer + the UPnP plugin.
Also I want to note XBMC hardware accelerated build have more codecs support than MX Player.
The best solution is to buy an Ouya, connect a harddrive directly to the Ouya, then connect the Ouya to the TV and watch the movie on a larger screen.
Es file manager or cifs

Plex, or bsplayer. I find xbmc too bloated on a tablet.

Es file manager for hd film, plex not really good streaming hd film.

The top pick may be Plex. They have a media server for both Windows and Mac, and apps for many different devices including Android. I use it to watch my TV shows and movies on my tablet and it works very well.
download app ArkMC as well on Android and connect with WI-FI, stream video, photos to any players
Playon works great for me

I use an app called Playon and Playlater. You can buy it for a one time fee and it will stream almost anything, including Hulu, from your PC to your phone, tablet, etc. The Playlater allows you to record a show for later playback on various devices, including off line.
VLC Streamer works pretty good.

I'll throw in Ps3MediaServer. Easy to use.
MediaHouse (free or pro)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dbapp.android.mediahouse&hl=nl
Mx Player (free or pro) (mx player sound is extra loud)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwyLDEsImNvbS5teHRlY2gudmlkZW9wbGF5ZXIuYWQiXQ..
And Serviuo for you pc (Serviio is easy to use with hardsubs)
http://www.serviio.org/
And a headset or speaker because de speakers in the N7 are way to soft
By far, the easiest way to "stream" your videos is using Archos Videoplayer
Its fully hardware accelerated, doesnt require any kind of server to be running on your pc, doesnt have the limitations of DLNA, doesnt need special CIF applications to be installed to see samba shares. Doesnt need any external player like xbmc to hardware accelerate
It simply connects to whichever windows samba share you created on your network with all your videos, index all the videos in the share, automatically collects movieposters and subtitles, and play the videos of almost any format, including HD rips in mkv, with dts or ac3 audio and subtitles over WiFi
you need both the player
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.archos.mediacenter.videofree&feature=search_result
and the codecs for various audio like dts and ac3
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.m4rk3t.libcopy2&feature=search_result
really dont need a server software running, just allow network share of your files and use es file manager to find them and video player of your choice

dlna/upnp player

I am looking for a simple video player that just streams video content to my phone via dlna. plex is fine but only works with.. plex ms. my server is ps3mediaserver. I have tried skifta but it's really slow.. I have tried other apps such as imediashare or upnp player with not so good results..
I have used xbmc in the past, it works fine, however I'd rather have something simpler, only for dlna.
thanks for any idea I could try

Try Allcast as Tecardo recommended
I used to use BubbleUPnP UPnP/DLNA (Well, I still use it since I haven't tried Allcast) and before that I used UPnPlay
