Take the update? - Motorola Droid Bionic

Hi there..
My Bionic is rooted and running a DE-ODEXed 5.9.902.
I have been getting prompts for .905. Should I take it? If so, will I be able to get my systemui quick toggles back?

If you're currently running anything other than completely stock 902, the update zip to 905 should fail verification. I remember being in the same situation on a de-odexed 902 system and I chose to FXZ back to stock 902 so that I could take the 905 OTA. That being said, I believe there is a de-odexed 905 CWM flashable zip floating around somewhere.

Take the update and then get on ICS... You will love it

I would probably agree with Nero...try out the Ice Cream Sandwich update. You can always FXZ to. 902 again as long as you're on the .232 update.

I have to agree with ICS update. Just for gods sake stay away from the. 235 update. There is no going back on that one. I am running. 232 currently and the radio data and battery life has been great. Hop on the ICS band wagon and enjoy.

I agree with everyone above. Take the update and flash ICS. Or wait for the official ICS when it gets released. Once you're on ICS you won't want to go back. It's made the phone so much better and makes me not regret my purchase. This update is what the phone needed and would have been great if it had come with it in the first place. I was hesitant to install the leak but after getting a taste of ICS i'm never going back.

Yes, take the update, Commodore.

Any idea where the deodexed 905 file is?
I just get antsy with bootstrap instead of a true recovery

So I heard there was an OTA update recently?

Has it been rooted? If I unroot will it install, then can be rerooted?

use the search button ffs
The new 5.7.893 OTA was just found today on stage 1 via cheesecake. Its only a 4 Meg update from those running 5.6.893. If you are using the p3droid forever root, it doesnt break it.
I'm running it and haven't noticed any issues except webtop seems broken.

From what I understand, only those who have installed one of the "leaked" version found via Cheesecake are seeing this OTA.
If you have a stock/release level Bionic, you wont see this...
on my x10i
i dont think ota works
on the motorola forums they stated that the ota is in testing and will be out in 30 to 60 days.

Question about .893

Hello, I just came from the bolt today.. never had a motorola before so this locked boot loader is new to me..
I really want to flash a Droid theory ROM as I'm used to his work from previous phones but I can't find one based on .886... Do I have to use this cheesecake thing to download .893 in order to flash a ROM based on .893 or would it run ok on .886?
I'm pretty sure I need to update to .893 but I'm gonna hold off for the real ota..just hoping I can somehow use a ROM built off it..
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I'm running Th3ory Shift3r and have not updated to .893. Just posted a screenshot in the Screenshot thread of it.
You think it's just that ROM or would all of them work?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
U don't have to update. The custom rom is built on the 893 system files. NOT the full update that also updates the kernel and radio, etc. U can safely flash the theory rom. When I decide to restore back to stock using one of the fastboot restore to stock method s u will be 100% back to stock. The custom roms do not update the kernel or radio so there is no risk at all of taking u off the ota update path. Flash away

I've flashed Theory (both Shifter and Purity), Eclipse, and Liberty. Never had to update to the leak.
Awesome thanks guys!

902 Pushed OTA

Has anyone else gotten 5.9.902 as an OTA update? I was about to update 902 with a .zip and noticed that there was a 902 OTA update waiting for me!
I did. Quite a few people have, to be honest.
I believe most people have it now. Apparently it has already been rooted using the Droid 4 root method.
I used dhacker29 script to root and 4 ever root and took ota from. 893 to. 902 andbkept root.
My son and I both received the OTA, and we were able to keep root as well.

I installed using my script to downgrade to 902 with full data in tact, updated to 905, 230, let the Android update script run on my apps, rooted with modified razrs edge (using SuperSU), and all is well. Very happy!
Any big changes from .2233?

Webtop is reported as finally working. Updated kernel. Looks like we are either looking at an OTA or darn close to it.
No go

I went 902 to 905 renamed zip to update.zip and it was a no go.
No need to rename it. But when you say "a no go" that's really not providing any information that people can help you with. Some versions of this put the update zip inside another zip with a crc file. If that's the version you have, you need to unzip the update zip and put that on your sdcard-ext. Then go into recovery and do the update from zip option.
Does this leak make all Bionics run at 1.2GHz, or are people like me with a certain revision processor not going to see that boost in performance?
Waiting official version hihihi

YES! Webtop works!:good:
Is there an easy way to install this without reverting to .902 then OTA .905 then finally "update" to .230.
If I'm already on .229 ICS leak can I not update without using RSD, OTA then Recovery?

Only 1 number really? 1 number can be major differences. You really can't tell anything by a number.
Just an FYI.
As I was preparing to sideload this and had just gotten a fresh build of 905 loaded, I rebooted and was greeted with a notification to download this update to my phone!
I am not on the soak test list nor am I registered for the Bionic on Motorola's support site. This means that this version will definitely be the OTA and will likely start pushing out to all users very shortly.

Help i cant install soak ics

I unrooted my bionic and downloaded the ics soak test build. When it installed it failed.

What kind of forum is this? What do you mean you can't see my phone through the interwebs...
This is what you needed to have done prior to the push to .246
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810373
You could use root checker from the play store for free to verify that you are not rooted but it should have cleared your root once you FXZ'ed back to .905
there really is not a lot of detail to it, i have unfrozen everything and used voodoo to unroot and it fails
are you on .902? .905? ICS leak?
Do you have bootstrap or safestrap installed? If so, that will prevent you from being able to update.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Are you getting any kind of error? Of so what is it? Where is it happening?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda app-developers app
Voodoo does more than just plan old root. I recommend going back to 905 via RSD. I actually rooted my 905 fxz restore (using motofail by drjbliss) before installing the OTA, and it installed fine.
Something Voodoo or some other root app did is causing the OTA pre-install checks to fail. Backup with TiB and fxz back is the fastest way to get your 246 fix.
help?
So I go to system updates and it tells me I am up to date. (I FXZed to .905 and am unrooted) Has the update not been pushed out to everyone yet? and if not were can I find it?
I went to the unsafe partition running. 905 and found no updates. I presume they are sending it out in stages.

It's not been push to the general public yet. If you're not part of the soak you'll have to find it elsewhere. Scroll back a few posts. There is a link to the file in here somewhere. You may also find it posted in another thread. I'm sure XDA's Bionic users are all over it

Dang, I must have misunderstood the article I read about it releasing today, The link in this thread is how to FXZ back to 905, Do you have any idea where I could find the soak update? I have been searching for awhile, also will it will hold root though the manual update?
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/4026-samurihls-house-of-bionic/
I believe Sam has it up on his site . The .246 should be the same as what is being pushed, but don't take my word for it. He will probably post here.
Forget the soak. Motorola just announced ICS on their Facebook page and its rolling out this weekend.

Yep, they usually roll out the public OTA within a few days of the private soak test. Or you can search for the 246 leak. It's the same zip.

I used samurai's hob and it worked great. Same as the official ota. No need to wait.
So if I download zip from HoB I wont have to flash back to something later on to get the fabled JB update?

If you stay on .246 you are on the update path.
