Our nexus have search button which used to search within the running application, for eg, in music player if we press search button it used to search for songs in that player, but this feature is not available in 4.1. Wherever we are, pressing search button opens Google now! Does anyone know how to reassign that button to search within app only, and long pressing to open Google now??????

not everything requires a mod. just press the search and type your song/artist/album name. dont press go. let it filter and it will give you your results. if you press go, it will search the web and you have to select phone from the bottom ribbon.
make sure you have enabled google now --> settings--> phone search --> play music
somethings just need a bit of understanding
I think the best behavior is the original one, search in the app that is opened. I hate when I am in the browser and I click the search and google nows opens. The same happens in all apps like gmail app, I press to search an email and bye bye the apps goes away. I don't really care if galaxy nexus don't have this button. We do and so we should get some advantage of it.
Kind regards

LoL, I know it sounds confusing. What I am looking for is some kind of task manager that lets me use it by pressing a hardware button (long-press prefered). Similar to CM7 (that exits the app when long pressing the back button, but it doesn't kill the process/service, only exits back to home screen). I specifically need this to terminate the browser apps as I found them to be eating a lot of RAM (stock, doplhin, opera, doesn't matter).
A similar method (by long pressing the back button) would also be prefered. Any of you know of such an app?
CyanogenMod and Zulu roms have an option to press and hold the back button to kill the app. That's probably the closest thing to what you're looking for.

What is the disadvantage if apps eat a lot of ram? Android already can manage it automaticly. If you need ram, it kills the apps.
Yeah, but I want it to kill the right apps, the browser that is.
I know its not exactly what you're looking for, but with Miren Browser, you can exit the app through the menu

Yep, doplhin has this as well. But it's not what I'm looking for.
There is something tho that just popped un in my mind, I was thinking of a some kind of task manager that would have a "shortcut" to kill apps. I could uncheck all the apps and check only the browser and some others that I'm interested in (gallery and maps also seem to be eating pretty much and I never even open the maps app). Then I could go in CM7 settings and activate that "shortcut" for one of the buttons, like long pressing the menu button for example.
Something happened to my tab's screen a while ago, where I sent it back to replace it with a new screen, but during the repairment, due to the carelessness of Samsung's employee, something happened to the search button, now the search button autostarts itself from time to time, before I deleted the voice search apk, voice search comes out by itself with vibrations repeatedly, after I deleted the voice search apk, what comes out in the same way is google search...and after I deleted google search apk and turn off the vibration, the screen would come to a state of nonresponse to any operation from time to time....
I hope there's an application which I could use to disable the search button, as I don't really use it at all, or if there's any file I could delete in the android system to do this, I am reallt tired of sending it back to samsung, which would again mean one to two months' waiting....anybody please help...
Seems nobody is willing to help here...really disappointed....

I can't say for sure but if you are running a different rom (I'm running CM7) there may be an option to disable the button... under CM7 I have an option for search key behavior, I can tell it to run a custom app, leave custom app blank and it does nothing when I press it... not sure if this helps but its a shot in the dark...
SGT+CM7=AWESOMENESS!!!

Change your language to English US. Simple Google search would've sufficed honestly
Are you in android 4.2.2 or 4.1.2?
If you're on android 4.2.2 use a swipe to the high on the home button.
If you're on 4.1.2 double tap on home button
try this!

On my stock T-Mobile, holding the home button will bring up Google Now.
EDIT: Mine also has a widget for Google now, I keep that on my home page. However, I still have to first open the program by holding the menu key after a reboot. After that I can simply touch the widget.
Is there a way to turn off the Google search when you press a hardkey? I find my thumb hovering over the hard key and then it will just come up. Is there any way to turn it off?

Well i have turned Google Now off, so the only thing that comes up is the search box that would have been google now window. I am asking where i would go to do that, i have searched all over the place in the menus and settings and can't seem to see where to turn it off at.
Go to Settings, search for apps icon , then select all apps. Find google search from that list and stop service and delete it.

I could swear when I first got this phone and I used S Voice car mode to navigate it would just open Google maps. Now when I try to navigate it opens Galaxy App store to install HERE. Anyone seen this or know of a way to set a default navigating app? Normal S Voice mode opens Google maps, it's only in car mode I'm having this issue.

I have a different problem. Car mode starts up properly, but I can't register any locations in it for easy navigation. When I go to places and select "Home" then type in my address, then press the "Set" button nothing happens, it just goes back to the previous menu with "Home" and "Work" and both say "not registered".
Suggestions anyone?
