are you flash stocch rom? i just flash custom rom( Crash v7) and run very smooth.:victory:
I had the same problem with some kernels on 4.0.4.
I booted into Recovery, wiped cache, then wiped Dalvik cache and rebooted.
(Don't have to reinstall ROM. And it doesn't wipe your data)
Sometimes I had to reboot again.
Now no more heating.

Some application is making the processor run at 1400 MHz.. Check what it is.. You can install CPU Spy and verify if this is true.. Cheers..
Sorry guys ... all what you prosposed is not working ...
Tried wipping cache and Davlock ... still getting hot
Out of CPU Spy, I can see that when I am using Facebook app it is going to 1400 mhz.
But what is the solution ?
what kernel & governor & scheduler do you use ?
My phone gets really hot sometimes but it doesnt bother me, This phone packs some serious processing power - 2 CPU's, a HUGE LED screen, massive battery and a plastic housing... its gonna generate heat.
unless its blistering your fingers or frying an egg i wouldnt worry so much

Change the rom and use it for 20 mins or more without downloading any app from play store , with this you can be sure that your hardware has not damaged :good:
When you gion to use in this way install setcpu(root) and set you max cpu frecuency to 1000 mhz you goin to see the diference
Even i faced the same problem when i was using dolphin browser hd came to know from cpu spy
Just stopped using that app

Had the same problem with 4.04. After changing provider (new sim card). But I guess my installation got messed up a bit after a long time without wipes.
Never had problems before, but suddenly got a lot of FC on systemUI (tried a few 15 toggles, couldn't get them to work anymore. Also was suffering from the CSC unknown (and samsung keyboard Null error). And a very hot Note. Also, 10% battery drain an hour, even when idle and deep sleep.
Went back to GB. Factory reset. And reflashed LRG. And then again, the second time no CSC unknown and null errors on sammy keyboard. I traced the batterydrain down to exchange push service. Now I just pop every 15 minutes. No more heating, no more draining.

Interesting was it a simple deep sleep issue? I have exchange service in background always set to automatic and iam fine with GPS wifi and data all day long, for me I get 45% when iam home at 22:00 with moderate usage.

I have a problem with my Milestone - it's getting incredibly hot and the battery is draining from completely charged to device shutting itself off in few hours.
I have installed the latest CyanogenMod 7.2.0 RC1 +gapps, wiped everything (data, caches, dalvik) and only logged in with a google account. There are no more apps installed, everything is in stock condition. Memory card is basically empty. I've tried everything - rebooting, wiping everything clean, yet the phone is still running incredibly hot. Even on stock CM7 without any apps installed, the phone is getting hot.
Attaching logcat dumps:
http://pastebin.com/7Qg5TPBL from yesterday (100% charge)
http://pastebin.com/8s4ut5wY from this morning (phone died during the night and I'm charging it) -- Wi-Fi and Data are turned off.
http://pastebin.com/7q11siSD from now - for few hours on idle the battery was down to 60%.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you.
Switch to 2g or turn off data. Until I can see the log. Some app is persistent on using the Internet connection, I had that but I was really annoyed and uninstalled a lot of applications, and didn't quite know which is responsible but i suspect it was Facebook.

the logcat can't be seen, some html code instead, don't know if xda or your fault is
Hello.
The phone is in completely wiped condition - no apps are installed, only those that ship with kabaldan's CM7. Data is turned off, not quite sure about 3G.
I edited the OP with working links, it should be okay now.
Thank you for helping!
Another update - the phone does not enter Deep Sleep mode. Since the previous post, the phone has been 8 hours on 250MHz, 1 hour on 400MHz, 31 mins on 1GHz and 11 mins on Deep Sleep, according to CPU Spy. Could it be related?
Check Battery usage graph
Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Battery Use.
Check the battery graph. If you see a sharp drop somewhere, then it might be that your phone's battery is in disrepair. The original battery on my milestone drops from ~70% to 40% within a second and then again drops to 19% in a few hours. The spare battery that I have works well.
Normally when my phone was hot, it was because of the 3g or some app open in background, restart it and enable Airplane mode, if it still hot after a while with the screen off, them try another rom.
If it continues try installing the stock rom with an .sbf and try again.
If it continues, try finding another battery to try, some motorla phones like the dext have the same battery.
If it continues, I dont know, buy a new phone
Go into OR, fufu recommended, and hit fix permissions.
Sorry don't have much time to study your log. This is one of the problem I saw this morning at 5 30 in 10 minutes of reading, it has some permission problems among others or try a reflash (and wipe ext partition also ) .
Post another log after fix if you do this to see if are any changes.
I saw another one also but don't remember now, busy day.

To be honest, I've never looked through a logcat log before, but I'm seeing a bunch of these in yours:
D/SntpClient( 2091): request time failed: java.net.UnknownHostException: europe.pool.ntp.org
I wonder if simply disabling the 'automatic' option in settings -> date and time would do the trick. That line would keep your data open, and your phone awake, especially with as often as it shows up in your logs.
Hi there. Thank you all for your replies.
For some reason, the issue is gone now, the phone successfully goes to deep sleep and the battery lasts ages again.
I don't know what fixed the issue - the only thing I did is to enable 'use only 2G networks', but it shouldn't make any difference - I disabled the data connection.
Which baseband is the default in Europe?
I can't find permissions fixer in FuFu's OR. Any alternative to that?
I would just use from manager to fix permissions

hi all..
2 weeks ago I finally bought my very first android based HH, GNOTE...currently I'm running on ICS LPF Taiwan unroot, and very love it. one of my concern on this ICS, is the battery drain so much, considering it just sit on my pocket.
i have CPU Spy and BBS Installed, and found that it just Deep Sleep 48% and 200MHz 37 %. Kernel Wakelock is "multipdp" 25% Power Manager Services 21,2% and secril_fd-interface 19.25.
could you please tell me what causing this battery drain so much..?
The best thing that you could do is do a Factory Reset, but with all the bricking problems it's highly discouraged. I don't recognise the processes, but you should make sure that you deleted all the apps you never use, since one of then could be causing the problems you have.

Done this (posted on XDA somewhere) and it worked:
Turn Flight Mode ON
Turn Off the Phone
Take out the battery for 30 secs
Plug battery back
Turn on the phone
Wait until all is loaded and turn off Flight Mode.
Also, always disconnect from the charger with screen ON and unlocked.
After using this 2 metods, never had a wakelock again (multipdp etc)

thanks for your answer for my question...
regarding that did you mean that i have to stop receiving email on my Galaxy Note..?? for me that's really important since i bought my note to support my daily job...
is it the main cause..? if yes, i think i should buy another battery as a way out.
I also have encountered the same problem with my galaxy note after the stock ics update in India.
I have checked out the earlier posts on the same issue..
Some users had the problems of deep sleep and some others had other problems..bt as far i have been able to understand this problem...it is associated with those apps which we often use..for eg i had been using apex launcher for so long...and it used to suck my phones battery like hell also coz of the widgets and the other things that it use.
So what i did was a simple factory reset and a data wipe and didn't install the apex launcher again.
I let my phones battery drain completely and charged it till 100% and simply rebooted it and removed the battery too. And its working good now.
Those things which suckedy battery included android system and display...i could do any thing about display but i force stopped may process of android system and results are good.
One more reason for battery drain could be that when we go backs from the apps on stock ics on galaxy note..the apps do not get closed comletely like stock web browser which works in the background too..so might be other reason for so.
Don not install those apps which u dont use often coz they might work in background add unnecessorily suck ur bettery.
Try the battery pull off trick it really works for majority of users.
Force close those apps and processes which u feel unnecessory.
Those whose claim ics doesnt work smooth on their note they pls go the develpers option in settings and enable the force GPU rendering option then it will work smooth like anything...
One more thing which u may already know about galaxy note ics is that now it runs all the tablet apps on ur note! Thats pretty amazing coz u need not root it or do anything...for me it worked with the apps like...adobe idea, adobe photoshop touch and all other adobe apps and some other tablet apps..download these apps directly from 4shared..so cheers!!!
Those who are not happy with their battery pls try factory reset and battery pull off trick...it worked for me and it might work for u too my friend...
if you are entering deep sleep at all then you aren't being affected by the bug where you have to make sure your screen is on and unlocked before pulling it off the charger.
i suffered from this bug after updating to ics lpy, but since following the guide above (flight mode, power down etc.) i've had no issues.
let your phone completely discharge, then turn it back ona dn make sure it turns off again. then fully charge it. i found this increased the accuracy of the battery a little, when i did it it dropped from 10% to 1% in around 20 mins, then i was able to use the phone for almost half an hour on 1% so obviously my battery stats weren't quite right.
if you've done a factory reset, and you're sure the phone is entering deep sleep ok, just go through a couple of complete charge/discharge cycles and see if that improves things

Analyzing is tought on android.
Printscreens of kernel wakelock and partial are better.
Partial is mostly what exactly is keeping awake

i still got this issue regarding multipdp and secril_fd_interface....maybe it caused by unstable network or the fast dormancy stuff...
so i went to nearest samsung center and buy a spare battery... now i have no concern about this...but still keep on eye with l2_hsic...the flight mode on and restart will solve this issue..

I was having battery drain issues myself. Got tired of checking CPU Spy and BBS etc. Worried about bricking and wiping so I...
I rooted the phone.
Installed SpeedMod Kernel 3-3 via mobile odin that didnt really solve it.
I installed Abyss kernel. Wiped everything because its supposed to be a safe wipe kernel.
Then installed Criskelo rom
Then installed SpeedMod Kernel 3-3 again and everything was great with battery life.
You have to reinstall apps and setup your phone basically but its well worth it in my opinion. Now my only battery drain is me always messing with my phone.

@gayanaji - I use Criskelo's ROM and all the Samsung apps work fine. No probs here. Many of the custom ROMS are based on other Kernels that the Samsung apps do not work with. I am a bit new to this but I believe that is correct. Just make sure to use a Samsung app compatible Kernel if you decide to do it. Also another piece of advice before doing anything read a bunch to make sure you fully understand everything with regards to rooting, flashing custom ROMS etc.
Manually upgraded over stock non rootable CarPhone Warehouse GB rom using PC Odin.
Im getting very bad batrery drain. On the stock GB rom my phone would easily last two days with moderate use. Now with the ICS rom its draining pretty fast. I took it off the charger approximately 1.5 hours ago and with little to no use Im already at 90%. Same stock settings and same apps. Only difference is I am now using Apex Launcher.
I noticed wifi constantly on even during deep sleep but i have now configured it to only be on while plugged in.
Ive pulled he battery out for a few minutes and that hasnt helped. One last thing im going to try is revert back to GB and then wipe, clear cache and upgrade again...
Any advice/help would be appreciated..

Takes longer to analyse bro.
In those 24 min abnormal battery drain?
Best to check battery percentages.
Next to these two apps you can check badassmonitor or equavalent, they have also good measuring for actual battery usage per app.
Analysing sucks thought, totally not user friendly.

I could be wrong but it seems as if my wifi is still constantly active...battery drain is pretty bad...i think im going to revert back to GB, perform a full wipe and cache cleane and re install...
I did an "factory data reset" before and straight after i upgraded to the official UK ICS.
I did read if you use the alarm clock, it keeps your phone awake, even after you disable it, other apps most likely do the same.
Below is a picture over night, I always manually enable/disable wifi/bluetooth/gps as have yet to find an app that works correctly.
John.
Yeah tipically you would be looking for the following:
If your device goes into deepsleep at all. (on battery that is)
You can check this with cpu spy.
If it doesnt check the kernel wakeloks (high level) and the partial wakeloks (zoomed into detail level, best level for troubleshooting).
Anything there that runs often and long is probably causing the deepsleep insomnia. I wish Android would be better in able to determine what really influences your phones battery.
Next to this, some apps you can change synch settings (within apps itself, e.g. facebook etc) Thats just a typical change. every sync uses energy, and wakes up device.
Another possible check is the power on of with airplane mode.
Another tip is unchecking the sounds when touching touchscreen (a bug from the old days of android, and they never fixed) this is a major wakelock causer and by default turned on.
I usually get 4~5 hours nonstop onscreen time after tweaking it (without setting to much stuff of, otherwise I could have gotten a normal phone lmao)
after factory reset and data wipe on your galaxy note please calibrate the battery both ways...horizontal and gyroscope.
This will definitely help your phone better monitor the battery and bring it to normal status..

After upgrading my note to UK ICS release the battery is drainig like anything.
Its like 1% every minute .
After applying steps mentioned in the url its not draining that much. MAy after some more recharge cycles it will be more stable.
Hi,
I've a G-Note running ICS-4.0.3 , i recently noticed my phone is getting really hot and resetting automatically at times, on closer investigation i see 'CPU spy' data showing my phone running constantly at 1400Mhz mode!!! wanting to find which process is doing this, i downloaded watchdog lite and noticed that 'System UI' process is running at 49% approx CONSTANTLY, killing it re-spwans the process!! any idea whats causing this?? Please Help!!
Not rooted, never flashed, on original upgrade, have nova launcher, use it rarely. no other launchers installed.
Restart fixes this sometimes, sometimes not.
Thanks in advance,

I infact got deep sleep the whole day, 15 hrs just 10 percent drained! this problem has been occuring intermittently, deep sleep is still happenning, but when the phone is screen ON, its in the highest mode.
Hmm things got complicated.Like I said if everything used to be normal then all of a sudden this problem began then it should be an app I suppose?!Just like my case.
Install OS Monitor and see what's hogging your cpu maybe you can pinpoint the application if that's the case.
did anybody have a problem with Gsam battery monitor after it was upgraded from Badass battery monitor??? i was looking at it and was showing 100% battery drain due to application ( 0% for screen and phone radio)!! i have uninstalled it and seems fine i guess! atleast for now! charging now and its in the expected 200Mhz state.

Yes will do that!! Thanks! read my comment below, i think GSam Battery monitor submits some task or makes some query to the kernel which makes it to go in a loop, hence the android system seems to be using more CPU and not battery monitor itself

Hello,
I'm having a similar problem. When my Note is in standby sometimes it overheats without any apparent reason and battery drains very fast.
I haven't been able to trace the origin of this problem. I'm running on ICS 4.0.3 stock and no ROOT.

Have you installed any kind of launcher on your phone? If you have, do try to uninstall it for now. Install BetterBatteryStats, turn off any data connection.. 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth.. Remove any Live wallpapers(just use a static one), Uninstall any apps that connect or syncs online.
The last thing I could advice you is turn off Airplane Mode (at night), charge up your phone to 100% and just leave it for a day. Check back on BetterBatteryStats after on what apps/wakelocks is triggering the overheating.

Lot's of work... I'll have to find some time to try all of that.
Thanks.
Early last week my Note started to reboot whitout any apparent reason. It happened 2 to 3 times a day. Specially in the morning when battery was still above 60%.
The overheating also happened from time to time but not everyday.
Saturday I figured I had to do something extreme to end this.
First I downgraded to a pre-rooted GB rom. Afterwards wiped the GB rom. Then upgraded to stock ICS. Everything worked out fine and was very easy to perform, thanks to all the guides available on XDA.
Last of all I rooted the ICS.
Until now the Note hasn't overheated or rebooted again.
I really thought it would be harder to do all this. But now I think it would take me about 20 min to do all these procedures.
Thanks to all the people that posted the guides on XDA.
Keep it in the deep freeze for 10 minutes it shall solve your problem

I'll take that as a joke.
Three days in and still no unwanted reboots or overheating.
Gents if you have nothing constructive to provide in assisting the users with real help, please refrain from off topic mindless humor. Thank you.
A week after I've re-flashed ICS on my Note, the unwanted reboots have come back.
It must be some app I've installed again or maybe something much worse. I've read lots of threads and was wondering if a custom kernel and a different ROM might solve this problem.
One thing I've noted, the reboots never happen at night only during the day (mid-morning and mid-afternoon).
Any new ideas to help me find the source of this problem?
EDIT:
I'm running on LPY Kernel, so wipe is not an option...
Leaked Jelly Bean (4.1.2) bugs?
Confirmed bugs:
- 720p video laggy / freeze fix force GPU rendering maybe solve this!
- Battery life 70% compared to GB fix some stuff mentioned below solve this
- Laggy UI and games because default governor and default build.prop settings fix Install No-Frills CPU Control and set governor to CONSERVATIVE / i/O scheduler to NOOP - Minimum CPU to 200Mhz / maximum to 1000Mhz
- Sensor calibration error (proximity sensor pulls to left) - fix Try some sensor calibrator app from Play Store
- Touchscreen less responsible like in GB fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105567
Root needed to do some stuff above!
0. Charge to 100%!
1. Factory reset before flash (with system and with stock recovery!)
2. Flash JB with ODIN (method mentioned in Shaaaan's thread)
3. Factory reset and clear cache with stock recovery
4. Turn off the power saving mode in settings (to get maximum performance)
5. Force GPU rendering maybe help!
6. Discharge battery to 0% (when the phone power off automatically) and charge to 100% (with phone off)
I didnt see offline voice for google now

Sometimes the UI feels kinda laggy.
And i was watching a movie and the phone just froze and i need to pull out the battery and restart.
I cant do a screenshot...

With me, this rom showed some laggy animation at first run. But the phone wasn't registered at operator's network (vivo Brazil) and the very fast battery drain effect (15~20% @hour w/heavy use, 2~5% with stand by and airplane mode). Using official stock rom.
I'll try to figure out why the phone is not being registered at my carrier.
EDIT: Forgot to say about the internal storage, that dropped to 2GB. When were at stock 2.3.6 tim br rom, the phone showed 4GB of internal storage (altought Samsung Brazil states that this phone have 8GB, counting with the space occupied by Android). And it appears that the APPs eat much more space now.

I think the JB has large of bugs (?)

It is not a "leaked" fw, it is as official as it can be. And I haven't found any bugs. Just be sure to do a factory reset after flasing the rom. Battery is the same as on 2.3. The system is smooth, but if you "clear RAM" in samsung task manager, that will close the launcher too. Yes, when it comes back it will be laggy for a few seconds. Just use the standard android task manager - swipe to close. Overall, this is an awesome ROM.

If you don't want any lags turn off the power saving mode.

Don't know whether this is a bug or not but like some people gets like only 483 MB user available ram and some got 625 mb user available ram...
Many ppl reported that JB kinda runs slow and laggy sometimes eventhough antutu benchmark scores increased from before... why so?

they didn`t do something right, my jb rom works like a charm. but after update and first boot is necesary to go in stock recovery and do a factory reset and format cache
I dont know if its a bug but the CPU is at max all time, I have changed the min CPU to 200 MHz with no frills CPU from market and still without lag and more battery life now

My phone is almost unusable due to heavy battery drain. CPU spy and CPU spy plus show, that phone doesn't get wake locked and still yesterday my battery life was less than 10h of normal use (no navigation, no games, just facebook and email syncing 2 accounts at 1 hour interval)
With this useage i had no trouble getting 15-20h of battery life when using GB. Main battery consumer is Android OS.
Phone runs smooth and performs well.
I did a factory reset but from the android settings, not from recovery (don't know if there is a difference)
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated!
I haven't noticed any bugs.
My phone works very smooth on CPU 200/1000 conservative.
Only in games i noticed small lag compared to 2.3.6 and JetMod.

Do you guys have S Planner Widget? I dont't see it in widget list, but I have the apk.
Is it a bug or we won't be getting it?

i have the S-Planner app but no widget for it. So i decided to install the Google Calendar app to get a Widget. I like the looks of the S-Planner so thats what i'm using to view my calendar.
Talking about bugs/issues: on the Galaxy S Advance 2.3 i used to Press and Hold the Home button and press the power button to get a screenshot. In JB this no longer works. The normal way on JB would be to Press the volume down and the power button at the same time.
But this does not work..
