[SOLVED]Sending back for warranty repair question - Motorola Droid Bionic

Hello all. My wife has a bionic that I rooted and installed for3ver root. I only debloated the phone and installed v6 supercharger on it. I just upgraded her to the OTA .905 now her speaker went out.
I need to send it in for warranty they are sending a new one. I tried last night to RSD lite it back to stock. Now I used RSD a lot on my x2 in the past so no stranger to it. Using RSD 5.6 it would not recognize her phone. I reinstalled drivers and rsd lite and rebooted the computer but the computer would see the usb connected but not RSD lite. After trying several ways to get RSD to recognize the phone I ended up using petes root method to unroot the phone. I unrooted it and was able to erase all rooted apps including SU.
So here is my million dollar question. Since it is stock rom and now unrooted if I do a factory reset will it be safe to send to verizon or do I need to try another computer and try the RSD lite all over again?
Thanks in advance. I think it will be okay after a factory reset but there is pople on here a lot smarter than I am

When you did RSD Lite did you use the provided factory cable with the Bionic? The most common issue with most windows computers not recognizing the phone is due to not using the factory cable. As far as wiping via factory reset I don't know if it leaves remnants of some files used. FXZ'ing it would be your best bet. However some other users have reported that they have sent their phones still rooted and had no issues. Might have been lucky. Good chance is Verizon employees don't check to see if the phone was rooted and send off the phone to Motorola to do whatever they do with the phones.

Thanks for the response. Yes I was using the factory cable and phone was chareged to over 80% battery. My next step was to use another computer and try all over again. But after getting it unrooted I was not sure if it would be needed after a factory reset. But yes I would feel much better if I was able to flash it in RSD. Also I did try multiple usb ports I know voltage can be an issue as well.

Search for rsd version 5.7 and try it that way. Haven't had an issue using 5.7 with the bionic

Sorry I should of mentioned I also tried 5.7 as well after 5.6 did not work. I might try another computer later and try again tonight just for a piece of mind.
Also just a fyi I am using windows Vista. But same computer I always used on my X2 with no issues. I read someone uninstalled the moto helper and re installed and that worked for them. I think at this point another computer will be my next option if I really need to wipe it clean.

are you making sure to plug the usb into computer first and then the phone?
You very well might be just fine sending it in as is.
If you want to be 100% certain tho, RSD/FXZ(or whatever they call it Lol, fastboot flash) is the way to go

So after talking with Ash and getting his and Nitro's advice it sounds like it is a driver issue for sure. Nitro and Ash pointed me in the right direction for the right drivers again. I will try again tonight. Hopefully tomorrow I can put solved in the title and I will post any links to drivers that helped me out.
Thanks to Ashclepdia and Nitro for the advice!!!! And all others that gave their opinion.

Hope it works!
Now back to playing final fantasy 3 on my nexus.
$16 for it but so far worth it if u like FF3 RPG game. Fun

Windows Vista/7 is notorious for not detecting stuff without the correct driver. I know i've had issues with my Bionic and Kindle Fire on my home computer running Windows 7. Those problems went away but before that I had to bring my stuff to work and try it off my Windows XP work computer which worked flawlessly on both.

Yep during my googling search last night I seen where a lot of people with Vista had the same issue. Damn drivers and Vista I am sure I will get it tonight. I have another computer in the house without vista if it comes down to it.

Thanks everyone specially Ash and Nitro. So my problem was the drivers. Nitro suggested I get the drivers from motorola support website. I deleted my old drivers from my Dinc2 and started over. Installed drivers from the motorola website and re install RSD lite again 5.7 this time. But the main thing is after I downloaded the device manager for the drivers when I plugged the phone in RSD could see it. I flashed it back to ,902 and now going to update it to .905. I feel much better now that I know it had a clean wipe. THANKS! To everyone that gave me suggestions. If anyone else is having this issue feel free to PM me and I can give you files needed.

Need help getting back to stock

I followed this site religiously for nearly the first year that I had my captivate. I've been busy for the last few months and am completely lost on where I am and where I need to go to get my phone back to stock and then updated to the newest rom.
My phone was running CM7 just fine in April (I haven't updated anything since then, I think) but recently began force closing EVERYTIME that I tried to open ANY program. I used cwm and restored my system to what I had previously installed but am getting random reboots (this had never been an issue before).
I've been pretty good about taking care of my phone in the past, but it's been so long since I've messed with this stuff I have no idea what I have installed or what to do to get rid of it.
Right now my phone info says this:
android version 2.3.3
JK3 modem
Kernel version; 2.6.35.7 codeworkc #1
Mod version: Nightly 03042011
Build Number: GRI40
I'd like to get back to stock so I can reorient myself before catching up with current versions.
Thanks

Do you have the phones drivers installed? Do you have Android SDK installed with Nexus S drivers? Did you run ODIN as Admin?
you might want to just keep trying odin. Restart or reboot your computer.. try a different USB port. I had Odin stop recognizing my phone once. All it took was a restart of the computer and has worked fine for me since.
That's what I would suggest
My drivers say they were successfully installed but don't seem to work in download mode. I can drag and drop files without issue when the phone is on.
I don't have SDK installed.
I've tried all my USB ports on each of my computers, restarting, and have even unplugged every USB device except for my phone; no dice.
At this point I'm considering throwing my phone at the wall and running over it a few times to cash in on my warranty and maybe even have a shot at getting a captivate with a working gps.

If you have cwm recovery.. just flash another ROM in recovery. Wipe your caches data and dalvik before you flash and even factory reset. Unless you need gingerbread bootloaders, a lot of ROMs can be flashed right over one another without the whole FTS biz.
*edit* also wanted to mention CM7 is funky with storage space. If you go into terminal emulator in your apps and type "df" ..look for your datadata, make sure your under 90%. Once that fills up you'll start to get more and more force closes. The cure is to move some apps to your SD card.

I recommend you install SDK and install the Nexus S drivers with it. Its stupid but considering CM7 is based of Nexus S phone those drivers might be needed. On other cases it seemed to help.

lol Glad to hear its working, best of luck. On a side note I really do recommend sticking with I897 roms they tend to work better with the phone. I9000's ported ones would be a close second for GB. Just my 2cents. Im a big fan with Cyanogenmod on other devices like HTC and Motorola, but on SGS they still need some work ^^
I've already got cognition 5 up and running.

[Q] Droid 3 root/unroot question for experts

hey guys this is my first post. I have known about this website for a long time. i am a huge fan. I am having some trouble with my droid 3. I have used the v7 one click root and it worked like an absolute charm. i loved it. i highly recommend it for new d3 users. Only problem is my DA sister was messing with my phone right when the new update went out for them. lets just say.. she updated it. i had absolutely no idea until i tried to access root permissions and it did not work. i had titanium backup running too so my apps are frozen but my phone is not rooted anymore? i cant access anything. i tried to re-root my phone but it says adb is not recognized as an internal or external command or something like that. I dont know if i have to reset my entire phone? or what. Ive tried everything and nothing is working. If this is not the proper forum to ask this question i apologize ahead for this is my first forum like i said. I have absolutely no idea what to do. i am very stuck. Anything can help guys thank you.
if you had so any apps frozen I'm surprised the update went through. Lol the one click root should work for you though. I guess if you've tried everything an sbf with the .890 file is guaranteed to solve your problems and you will be able to reroot just as you've done before. Just check if your drivers are still a-ok

thanks
i re-installed new drivers even tho i was pretty sure mine were all set. but instead of opening up the easy root v7 out of winrar directly i extracted it to the desktop then ran it then it worked? lol so i am very confused. but it works now thank you for your help.

Bionic Left to Die!?

Can someone help my poor Bionic? All the links to restore a bionic are dead and its like a cemetery here nowadays... The Bionic was the most valued phone at one point, with its duo core and LTE together for the first time. gee... How said that the Bionic gets no love...
Anyway if someone can point me in the direction of a solid restore I would really appreciate it. I have rsd and a file but for some reason my bionic doesnt show up in rsd. Any links would be great thanks guys...
Are all the current drivers installed on your computer? What system are you using? What bit?

I feel ya man! I soft bricked mine the other day after flashing a gummy rom and trying to use bootstrap instead of safestrap to nandroid back to eclipse. I had a super hard time finding the sbf files as well and none of the one click methods worked. I'll try and find the link for you when I get home.
Oh, did you put your phone into fastboot first?

I can flash via platform-tools fastboot img by img but released root wont recognize it, 902 path wont see it and rsd wont see it. I am so confused...

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I did install the latest drivers and my phone is not recognized by any fastboot program However I can command it manually. So I did so only thing is I hve restored to 886 and no radio. I tried mot-fastboot flash radio radio.img but i still dont have a radio. If I had a radio zip that would help maybe... Or if my stupid phone would just flash via rsd that would be great but doesnt look like that will happen. Thanks again
Edit: My new core i5 lenovo was the issue. My old Laptop fixed it like a charm. Thanks to all you faithful bionic owners lol. Seriously though why does the best network get such lack of development on its phones... Sad, Even the Droid Charge was left with no love...

They worked for me and actually I'm back to running Eclipse latest 904 build updated a few days ago after running the 902 rebuilds referenced previously and also figuring out my main problem with Motorola's FastBoot Recovery was USB cable and port related. I simply had to use a new cable and USB port on the back on my computer to finally get FastBoot recovery to work.
Either way, it saved my Bionic and I'm now running Eclipse 904 (build 4 - 04/30/12) - h t t p://eclipserom.com/vforum/showthread.php?1612-ROM-Eclipse-Bionic-Test-Build-05-5-1-12 without problems. Sorli...
edit, already solved
I'm thinking I've burned up some usb ports with my phones over the years...I only plug it into a powered hub now

I've bricked it. Help!

So, after receiving a Droid-Bionic from a friend, I skipped registration and basically used it as an MP3 player/Game Player. I love the way CM runs on my NookColor, so I decide to flash it on my Bionic. So i root, bootstrap CWR, and flash. Behold, it bootloops. After much trying to reflash the stock ROM using the stock recovery (Now unable to get into CWR), I always get errors about failing to verify the ZIP.
Fine. If its gonna be that way, its gonna be that way. I leave it plugged in, bootlooping, overnight after reading how people's Bionics stopped looping after like 10 hours of being plugged in. No luck, and now it's out of batteries too, and only turns on when plugged in. (now it never gets past the red "M")
The ROM was called STOCK-CM10-Targa.zip, and I don't remember where I got it. I'll get more info on that later.
Can anybody give me (very) detailed instructions on how to un-brick? I've searched everywhere. I'm lost.

Download Motorola's RSD lite program.
When it was working was it on an ICS or JB build?
If it was on ICS then download the .246 FXZ file
Boot phone into fast boot, hold volume up/down and power
Run RSD lite and use FXZ.
I would have done that but I have a Mac. Any suggestions?

Sell the Mac
Get a friend who has a pc and use it for 5 minutes. I'm sure if it means fixing your phone they will help.
or you could run Winblows through bootstrap. tis what I do. Anywho, you still will need to FXZ that badboy to unbrick it. You can do a search for the House of Bionic, cool utility that was written to assist with stuff like this. Make sure you FXZ back to the right OS - depending on if you were on ICS or JB. and if you were on JB, do NOT, repeat do NOT, install nor use bootstrap - it F's up the bionic on JB.

Why don't you research dual boot for mac and get a lite version of windows xp or something to boot on your mac? Or as I said ask a friend for 5 minutes, download this stuff mentioned and put on flash drive so it's ready to go at their house. I can't imagine this is your primary device if you have let it go this long without asking another person with a PC for help.
Google and download .246 FXZ file for Bionic/Targa
Then dl RSDlite a motorola program, install.
Download "Droid Bionic Drivers" google it will get motorola site with drivers for windows on there.
Then hold vol up and down and hit power, press vol down until on ADP Fastboot then press volume up to select
Plug phone into computer, RSDlite should recognize it on line 1.
Click the three periods "..." up top to search for the FXZ, select the FXZ (still in zip don't unzip) and click "Decompress and Flash".
Wait, sometimes up to 30 minutes or longer. If over an hr something is wrong.
That's as much as I can help good luck.

I have had to do this before and it is really straight forward. Just wanted to say fast boot works too in Ap fast boot you can use fastboot flash partition partition.IMG if any of the RSS halt or fail to get past errors you can also delete those IMG in the fxz.XML that are giving you errors just edit the .XML in the fxz.zip and delete anything you don't want flashed I had to do this a few times to save my bionic
I ended up selling the device. But thanks for your help! I learned a lot from this experience.

[Q] Restore Stock Recovery without a computer?

Is there any way to restore stock recovery without using a computer?
I bought a Verizon Moto X developer edition used and the guy has TWRP on it. So now I can't update to 4.4 with that on here.
I don't care if I lose all data in the process.
I'm just having a ridiculously hard time getting anything to recognize my phone on windows 8.1 and I don't have a ton of time in the first place.
I tried a factory reset from twrp but twrp didn't go away.
I DO have an old laptop with... xp on it if anyone has a step by step guide that works 100% they could point me to?
came from galaxy nexus btw.

My phone was recognized by windows 8.1 and 7. Sounds like you have an issue with your drivers if its not recognizing the phone.

OK so I've gotten adb working but can't get RSD lite to recognize my device. Can I just use ADB?
I'm so paranoid of bricking my new device that I fought to activate for two weeks. God damn verizon.
edit to add:
I think RDSlite is the way to go. any commonly known way to get it to find my device?
So i use: adb reboot bootloader
from there if I do: adb devices
it comes up blank like there's nothing attatched.
any ideas?
if there's a donate feature, I'll gladly donate a couple beers to anyone that can help me get this working in the next half hour...
It's not much but...
So I got everything working.... I think. RSD Lite seemed to work fine. Letting everything settle in before attempting the 4.4 update...
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I thought a dev edition would have been a bit more... nexus-ey behind the scenes. Oh well, great device so far...

Glad you got it figured out, sorry I kind of left you hanging, I got busy at work.
I spent the last two weeks or so bricked and its definitely fun. Be glad you have the Dev edition. My MAXX is not, so I had to wait for the FXZ file to be released, couldn't flash anything else. Not getting the Dev edition was a huge mistake.
