Hi,
i see all of developers are very busy making new roms or upgrading their current roms. it is cool to try different roms everyday.
But i can not find any solution for video recording on optimus black. we are recording 720p in 3gp format, i think this is unacceptable.
Can we change video output extension to mp4 or sth else ?
Thanks ...

I think that 3gp in our phones is the same as mp4. It's only other extension.
Mp4 is only container for a/v streams. It dosent have anything to do with quality.
Windows movie maket doesn't accept 3gp
sent from my nokia 3310 using xda premium
have a look for applications which support multiplexing (muxing) of video files into other formats. This means that the video and audio is extracted out of the .3gp container and placed in another container without transcoding video. Takes like 2mins to do.
I do it when muxing .mkv with AVC to .mp4.

My video player could play .mkv & .mp4. But there is no audio for it.
could any one please solve this problem.
i have a lot of high definition videos, could not watch them with no audio
you have to make sure it's encoded properly with compatible bit rates and formats
suggestion use DivX to encode
Do you have any videos of 720p which you could play on your sgs?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
download any of the ones from YouTube
or the sample Samsung videos
or any DVD you rip from you rown discs
Firstly, try to shoot a 720p video using your SGS' Video Camera app and see if it will play with sounds. (of course you need to record something with sounds )
the vid will be in .3gp format. let's start from there..
It's most likely a codec issue. Re-encode the sound stream (Virtualdub I believe can do that)
yes i had recorded video at 720p & it is prefectly fine
how to get subtitles in a movie??
is there any app or the default video player can show it??
So far I'm fine with Android but I still complain I playback video in Android doesn't work well. The problem is that in WinMO could perfectly reproduce videos in format AVI, resolution: 320 * 240 and FPS 18 but in Android can't do reproduce only recognized of all videos and movies that I have one that is in WMV, therefore transform a video that I had to that format while maintaining the same settings as in AVI and does not play well is unstable and closes only while playing and I tried moving some things in the converter of video formats and still did not play well.
My question is: is there any hack or something like that to make the playback of videos go better in Android or one player as CorePlayer it was that used in WinMO and had no problems with that AVI video format.
Greetings and I hope help me.

Convert them to MP4. You also might try yxplayer, which plays a lot of avi videos(not all though) for me although it's not free.

Thanks a lot! Transforming it to. mp4 and playing with yxplayer works well but I will have to transform everything again but the important thing is that it works.
Best regards.
I have had most success with arcmedia in the android market. It uses the FFMPEG codec library rather then the codecs built into android which means it plays more file types successfully then most others i have tried. It even has a stab at playing higher quality videos where you would normally only get sound in the standard player, but they still stutter a little.

The I installed it and I did not get worked perhaps I need to install the codecs FFMPEG you mention but equally no matter because with the yxplayer and transforming the videos to. mp4 goes me well.
Best regards.
you could try rockplayer. plays avi files. i do not remember where i found the apk but i guess it is on market.

Thanks for the recommendation but if you saw the answers the problem was solved transforming the videos to .mp4 and using the player YXPLayer, the player you mention does not work but I accept suggestions of other players who have best interface to YXPlayer.
are you saying rockplayer fails to play your original avis? (at least this is what i was recommending it for)

Does not play the videos that transforms .mp4 only showed audio.
how to enable rockplayer hardware decoding mode????
I can't watch 720p video on software acceleration
Doesn't the software mode enables you to play 720p? works great for me.
me too, it's work on all mode

It will be too laggy!
MP4 files can be played in hardware accelerator mode, but mkv files can't!
So no h264 in hardware decoding mode? But hd2 using ARM7,and my rockplayer version is arm7.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
yep. i cant play mkv's either (at any resolution aka 320p, 480p or 720p). They lag too much. Whats more annoying is i cant convert files to keep subtitles that are softsubbed within mkv's, they disappear after mp4 conversion
Can anyone suggest a converter suitable for mkv's (ie that has simpler android conversion support without having to set up resolution manually etc). I know there are several designed for android, but google turns up poor results during searching plus id like to know what you guys use (if anything)
By the way, a little about the matroska format. It in itself isnt an encoded format directly. Its more similar to think of it as an archive. It is a compressed form of another type of encode (usually h.264). Hence certain files may have more difficulty than others in playing.
what is rockmode?

.mkv format it's only a big box where you can put any format at any resolution with any audio you want. Also subtitles
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matroska
I watched films and video, 720p & 480p & 320p without any lag.
Try to change build. (gingerbread is supported by Rockplayer)
good luck
Did you try mkv 720p and works fine?
I have tested it on many builds but non was working well!
Did you work with hardware decoding mode ? software decoding mode? rock player or other?
what build are you working with?
mine works fine.
Is there any way to change the recording format in Optimus 2x from 3gp to Mp4???
it's absolutely unnecessary... why do you need that?
Not really my expertise, but I read somewhere they're basically the same, so I just renamed the extension and that worked for me...
Sent from my Optimus 2X using Tapatalk
who the hell cares if its either mp4 or 3gp, it DOES NOT CHANGE THE QUALITY.
i guess ppl just remember that phones in the old(er) days used to record in 3gp and it was pretty sh*tty tbh, so they are scared of that format

they just can't understand, that it's just a container
Hmm I would like to use mp4 too cause 3gp does not stream to my ps3 via SmartShare. Mp4 does. Would be nice to record something and than watch it back from me ps3.

Like I said, not my expertise, but I do know about container formats and the codecs used inside them....
Basically I gave the same answer without technical explanation as you did... . The question was not how to change quality...
got the same problem
use any file explorer on the phone and rename the recorded video file on your phone from xxx.3gp to xxx.mp4 - then you can stream the file just fine to upnp units using smartshare or imediashare (and the phone will naturally still play it also)
the .3gp and .mp4 container format are basically similar, and any decoder that can parse .mp4 can also parse .3gp.
the problem with streaming .3gp to upnp units using smartshare or similar is that the upnp protocol does not have mime support for the .3gp extension and basically therefore does not know its video and does not inform the player unit to parse it as video.
it does have mime support for .mp4 so renaming the file from .3gp to .mp4 will allow the upnp protocol to send the vid playback command to the player unit which will then parse and play it.
Hi all
SGS IV looks like complete s*it. So now the only thing that stops me from buying HTC One this year is format support. Heard that it can't hardware decode mkv, is it true? I dodn't mean out of the box but any player like MX or BS. They both have hardware+ decoders that may somehow help with mkv.
MKV is not a video format but a container so I guess it depends on what type of format it was encoded.
Regarding full video formats supported HTC said it is
3gp, 3gpp, 3gp2, mp4, avi(dix, vidx), h264, webm & WMV
I know mkv is a container, but h.264 video decoding is implemented in many previous htc flagship chipsets (e.g. in HTS One X), though mkv can't be hardware decoded on these devices even with 3rd party players (judjing by responses on One X). The same in apple devices. There are no apps that could simply on the fly demux mkv and hardware decode h.264 video stream. Are there anybody who already owes the device and could run the test with any 1080p rip or beter BD remux in mkv?

sorry I would like to revise my previous statement it doesn't support xvid, divx And yeah doesn't also support MKV. But Xperia Z does.
My stock video player won't play .mkv files correctly (no sound), nor will DicePlayer which I'm very surprised about.
MX Player works perfectly - in the Settings I have the video set to H/W and the audio set to S/W - and now my 720p .mkv files run buttery smooth and are pin sharp.

Well yes, that I figured out as well, that MKV, and AVI (divx-xvid) is not supported, but only those which are encoded with AC3
Because of this, some youtube videos are not played, or sorry..played but without any sound....furthermore, when I try to stream anything via DLNA (samsung allshare runs on the pc and or Router) then I cannot watch them...its kinda annoying....
do you have any solution for this? like installing codecs?
Thanks ...only because of this I would not choose the galaxy s4...and I dont want to convert any video I have...
Thanks !

Sure, I found out as well, but my main problem is:
When I am trying to play video on my HTC ONE using DLNA (which is hosted, operated on my PC) the videos which are using or coded with AC3
audio, they...just won't play....
As far as I know mxplayer does not have DLNA support....but correct me if I am wrong... and also what would you do with the youtube videos ?#
After contacting HTC, they just told me sorry these formats are not supported.... I hope it will be only a matter of an update...cause its kinda annoying that you can put any files on a galaxy s4 or galaxy s3...and just play it with the default app...
A little update on this... I manage to make an mkv movie play on the stock player. However the audio codec is not supported. So I think MKV is supported. DivX and Xvid are the only codecs that's not working.

well playing mkv, or avi is not an issue, but it plays without sound (due to the missing AC3) codec, mxplayer must be installed and its good to gooo with hw+ and its perfect, I even found a solution for the DLNA thingy.
Now I just need to get use to the camera, which is perfect on the display, but less perfect on the pc
