Already done it mate, here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773329
If you're looking to integrate this into your ROM, just drop it into /system/media (without unzipping it)
Hope this helps.
Tried to copy but got an error. Is there anything I missed? Thanks

Your file manager needs to have root access. This looks like it should work, if not try Root Explorer, which whilst it is paid for, is well worth the money and you'd be amazed at how often it comes in handy.
You must make the /system directory read/write. You can do this is ES File Explorer (assuming you have root) by hitting the menu button, click on "Settings", and scroll to the very bottom. The second option from the bottom is "Mount File System", and the subtext shows this is to "Mount / , /system as writable." Check this option, then try copying your file.

No problem. Glad to hear it worked.
If you don't want to mess with /system/media and possibly lose the boot animation that is baked in your rom, drop the bootanimation.zip in /data/local and fix permissions.

I have a framework-res.apk to give me battery % on the top bar, but im not sure how to install it... Can someone help please?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
use Astro File Manager and open it. you should be at /sdcard. then press "UP" and you should be at / now.
all in all. navigate to /system/framework and replace the framwork-res.apk file.
do backup your original apk file incase things don't work out.
Right I tried that, with Astro I can't copy files to root directories (above /sdcard/) I tried EStrongs file manager and it says it can't be copied... Is there any reason it won't work?
Or is there another way of doing this?
Thanks.

hmm weird. it worked for me, judging from your signature you're rooted so... i have no idea. paid solutions like root explorer and all, or adb. isn't the battery modification done via an update.zip now? it's easier and way automated.
Yeah it's rooted and it had worked before but when this method didn't work again I thought I was doing it wrong.
I'll have a look for the thread again when I'm home and see what it says and if there's an update.zip.
Thanks for the help

definitely an update.zip method now. i've applied it yesterday lol no problem.
here's the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765419
Damn you're good, thats the exact thread
Well I'm glad it's done by update.zip haha.

If you have root try to overwrite the app by pushing it into system/app. Maybe it will work.

I have my phone rooted, and I tried what you say with astro/es/root explorer
but I just can't copy anything in /system/app/ because it's read-only.
Any ideas ?
yes, I do. Mount R/W in the root explorer (upper right corner). By default read only is set.

hmmm, strange. Anyway. I just overwrote it by a normal install of the .apk. Nothin to push. And it works great.

WTF is going on :/
I navigate to /system with root explorer tap on mount R/W and nothing happens
You have to paste it after you pressed R/W..
Pressing the R/W button only means you can now put something in that folder..
Been using it since the morning, works great so far.. not too sure about the looks though. Too grey and too much like WP7

Man I'm not an idiot, I know that "Mount R/W" only changes the permissions and I also have to paste the file.
The thing is that when I click it nothing happens.
I'm using Root Explorer 2.9.3

Have you tried deleting the old market paste the new then restart you phone
I just click on it installed and everything was fine, dunno what has happened there,
or you could open up the zip of the rom you are using remove the vending and replace it with the new one and reflash it to your your phone, without wiping and that might work
or try ADB
All I did was install it over the original some people said its got Chinese work.g on it but mine seems fine

So I didn't really like the Verizon power off animation for PowerWashed (ED05) ROM, so I changed it to the full TV power off animation. I've always liked this one, so I figured there would have to be others as well. I posted the zipped folder that has all the necessary images for the full power off animation. I use Root Explorer, so for those who use that as well, here's the steps to make it work...
1) Extract the folder onto your computer, once you do, double-click the folder so you see another "shutdown" folder. Copy that folder and place it on your SD card.
2) Using Root Explorer, scroll down and find the system folder, click on that, then scroll down and click on the media folder.
3) Once you're in the media folder, scroll all the way down and click on the video folder.
4) Inside the video folder will be the shutdown folder, and from there I would either delete it, or copy it and paste it onto your SD card (Just in case you decide you want to go back to that power off animation) under a different folder name so it doesn't overwrite your existing shutdown folder.
5) Once you've taken care of the original shutdown folder, making sure there's nothing in system/media/video, go back to your shutdown folder (With the TV off animation) and simply move it to system/media/video.
6) You're done! Power off to test it out and make sure it worked.
*Note* For those who would like to delete the shutdown sound, simply go to system/audio/ui and delete the shutdown.ogg.
**Edit** I find the Nexus S Reloaded boot animation to fit perfectly with the power off animation, so for those who want the nice combination, feel free to flash it. Remember to wipe cache and delvik cache!
Very nice. I gave you a thanks. It works great.

Running gingervolt 1.2, great rom, ran both oneclick root methods...zerglings etc...the esteem method says the phones been rooted. MT's method runs through the root procedure...then afterwards, I manually update superuser to 3.03, because niether of those methods will do that. Still when attempting to write a boot animation zip to the /system/media folder, I get the error "sytsem is read only"....
not sure if the root isn't taking....any help is greatly appreciated
What are you using to write the boot animation? Also, If you are using Root Explorer make sure you mount /system R/W. I believe it is in the top right corner. I've never used it :/ Just heard from people with it

You have root. Make sure you mount the system folder as read/write (R/W) before you try to change anything. It defaults as read only. If you're using Root Explorer it's in the upper right corner.

Just as info I'm not sure why but using
adb remount has never worked for me the best and easiest way to do it us root explorer just rename the original to bootanimation.zip.old and paste the new one in there

This is a very simple how-to for disabling that nerve wrecking startup sound that can not be disabled in the parameters:
Method 1 (root required)
1. root your phone with any rooted system.img
2. run the following commands:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cd /system/media/audio/ui/
mv PowerOn.ogg PowerOn.ogg.disabled
Method 2 (root required)
Alternatively, a file explorer can be used for the same purpose: go to /system/media/audio/ui/, then rename PowerOn.ogg
Method 3 (root required)
As kindly provided by kicker63: "A quicker way is to just untick all the poweron.Ogg permissions boxes and then Reboot your phone, no more annoying startup sound. Just use Root Explorer to do this. "
Method 4 (no root required)
As kindly provided by aavvaallooss: "NO root needed if you use StartUp Manager (Free). Under Settings pick up "Enable Silent Boot"
This method may or may not work depending on your ROM.
A quicker way is to just untick all the poweron.Ogg permissions boxes and then Reboot your phone, no more annoying startup sound. Just use Root Explorer to do this.

Thanks for this advice. This post is just to say that i used a free app instead of Root Explorer. In italian it's name is ES Gestore File but of course there are other languages versions.

Yeah, basically the literal translation
Hey,
I'm also trying to disable this sound. It's unclear to me if you MUST have a rooted phone for the 2nd option to work? I heard that rooting your phone voids the guarantee?
I tried ES file explorer, was able to locate the file but I can't rename it/haven't found a way to alter the permissions.
thx,
Sven
Yes you must be rooted, to uncheck them boxes.

Hey,
Thanks for the hint. Unfortunately, this also doesn't disable the start-up sound. This app disables the sound at shutdown, however this doesn't do the trick on this device.
Seems like a cool app though..
I think it's very strange that disabling start-up sound requires root access, and is not configurable by default.. If you think about it, a start-up sound has no use & can only cause frustration, if you need to start-up in a room full of audience..
