Can't downgrade ( to S-OFF ) - HTC Incredible S

Hi. I was trying to get s-off my phone using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373697
The ROM provided there was RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.30.405.1_Radio_20.2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M_release_199308_signed when I tried to install it I got an error on my PC that "the ROM is not compatible'(or something like that). I think it's because phone is a TWM (Taiwan mobile version) not WWE. However there aren't TWM version at VIVO shipped ROMs thread.
Anyway, what do I do know?

Did you create a goldcard before running the ruu?
Sent from my Incredible S

yes, I did, using runme.cmd
However I'mot sure about one step. When running runme.cmd there was a text :
Checking version-main
< waiting for device >
version-main: 4.10.921.1
finished. total time: 0.002s
If the version-main returns 2.00.000.0 you should be
able to run the RUU downgrade. If it does not, answer n to the
unlocked bootloader prompt no matter what.

I'm not sure weather main-version is 2.00.000.0, where can I check that?

Are you sure it worked?
Because when I did it, the script didn't make one for some reason, I used one I made manually beforehand

Ohh... I googled "goldcard" and I think I understand what's happening.
I'll try creating it manually.

Just make sure on the IncS you use MMC2 not MMC0 or MMC1.

I just manually created goldcard and ran RUU again.
I got an error

Tried using different WWE versions from VIVO Shipped ROMs thread get the same ERROR 140. Am I doing something wrong?
BTW do I have to use runme.cmd every time before I run different RUU ?
Tried using different SD card. Now I got this:

after examination, seems the problem is in downgrade toolkit. Looks like it can't perm root the phone

The script showed you what the main-version was. Look closely at the line:
version-main: 4.10.921.1
Which means the script didn't work. Since your main-version is 4.10.921.1, it appears that you have upgraded to the latest HTC ICS ROM, thus your HBOOT is now version 2.02.0002. The downgrade script cannot use the tacoroot exploit to get temproot and change the main-version value. That is why your script failed.

Hi guys, i had problms with it too.

Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373697 and download: HTC Sync (Installed then uninstalled for ADB drivers).
IncS main version downgrade toolkit v2.0.
RUU used for downgrade.
Extract all the files from the downgrade toolkit to your PC and run runme.cmd, following the instructions on screen.
Then run the RUU Downgrade (takes a while, around 10 mins so be patient).
When its finished running, you can verify if you have 1.13.0000 hboot by entering hboot (power on phone + vol down).
Then you can run revolutionary to get your s-off!

It is an attempt by HTC open up the phone for customization by developers. It unlocks the bootloader so that you can flash a custom recovery, a custom ROM and a custom boot image, but it falls short of being full S-OFF (security off).
If you have installed the latest OTA update which updates the phone to Android 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 then the HBOOT version is 2.00.0000 which cannot be S-OFF or downgraded, so unlocking at HTCDEV is your only choice at this point in time to root your phone.

Overwrite it with revolutionary hboot andrun the vivo downgrade on that?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
And how would I overwrite it with revolutionary hboot? Just install revolutionary?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
You can make the uninstall.bat work if you replace this line :
Code:
fastboot flash hboot_1.13.0000_CRC_8a731c6e_0401.img
with
Code:
fastboot flash hboot hboot_1.13.0000_CRC_8a731c6e_0401.img
If you can't boot to a ROM, you can just uninstall via fastboot :
Code:
fastboot oem mb 469010a0 16 0
fastboot oem mb 8d09fa58 1 30
fastboot flash hboot <path to any hboot.img>
fastboot reboot-bootloader
I would also recommend to use another new hboot because the one that is used when uninstalling is 1.13.0000 S-ON. Inferi0r posted some There. You can extract hboot.img from PG32IMG.zip
I haven't found how to uninstall directly the new version of BlackRose but I found that old version can overwrite new version.
So if you want to uninstall new version, install old version and then uninstall like explained before
nonverbose wrote a short guide for it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26909973&postcount=13
Files here.
You can overwrite HBOOT-2.00.0000 S-OFF Blackrose and HBOOT-2.02.0002 S-OFF Blackrose with HBOOT-6.13.1002 S-OFF Revolutionary. You can overwrite that HBOOT with HBOOT-6.13.1002 Revolutionary [Overwrite Protection REMOVAL] and then you can flash any stock HBOOT you want.
So there is always a way back.
Why are there threads everywhere of people wanting to uninstall it? I installed it a few days ago and everything seems to work just like it did previously with 6.13.1002. Am I missing something??

Bricked after uninstall?
Hi!
After uninstalling the Blackrose I got hboot 1.13 s-on.
The fact is that I can't launch the recovery and boot into the ROM.
Not sure what's happened. Everything was fine before that (4ext, s-off, custom rom).
Most of methods require adb (so the phone has to be booted to ROM).
Fastboot also fails to flash anything, obviously, cause it's s-on now.
Let me know if I can provide any useful info.
Any advice? Do I really own a brick now?

Now that you have lost S-OFF, you will not be able to use an unsigned PG32IMG.zip to update the radio and mainver.
You will have to wait until the official 4.10.405.x RUU for ICS/Sense 3.6 is available to download. At this point you will only be able to flash an official, signed HTC RUU/ROM and it needs to be version 4.10 or higher.

Nothing special. Please find details below.
I got Nik Aura Rebitth 3.0, 4ext recovery classic 2.2.7 rc5, s-off via Revolutionary (had to downgrade).
Then God knows why I decided to install blackrose (was not really going to install official ROM). Installed with no errors in log. After the reboot the phone displayed 4ext, and it was reinitializing again and again, weird. Then I hit blackrose_IS.exe /uninstall. And that's all. No ROM, no Recovery, hboot 1.13 s-on, mainver 4.10....

Well there is if he unlocks the bootloader and roots the ROM, then you could run the misc_version app to change the mainver to 2.00.0000 (that is the key to the downgrade script) and then he could flash an older RUU with HBOOT 1.13.
It defeats the true purpose of the downgrade script which is an alternative to unlocking the bootloader via HTCDEV.com, but it is a solution if you truly want S-OFF.

Have you tried doing a Wipe Data/System Reset to see if that fixes your issues?

Well there is if he unlocks the bootloader and roots the ROM, then you could run the misc_version app to change the mainver to 2.00.0000 (that is the key to the downgrade script) and then he could flash an older RUU with HBOOT 1.13.

The command syntax can be found by reading the script:
echo Waiting for device to connect
files\adb wait-for-device
echo Device found
echo Pushing misc_version
files\adb push files\misc_version /data/local/tmp/
echo Correcting permissions
files\adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
echo Downgrading main version
files\adb shell /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 2.00.000.0
Stock HTC ICS ROM downgrade/revert back to Gingerbread
I had a similar problem this week-end.
I was originally running on the stock HTC rom, but with unlocked bootloader via htcdev, clockworkmod recovery and superuser root (but still S-On).
I then received the ICS upgrade (for which I had to revert to standard recovery and system by flashing with fastboot in order to apply it)
ICS was awful (for me bluetooth really unstable, kept not disconnecting after target device was powered down, and then just opening the bluetooth settings would crash the phone - even after I factory re-set it, it was the same), so I wanted to go back to gingerbread which was rock solid.
So for me the process after a lot of trial and error was (from memory) to get back from standard HTC ICS (which was hboot 2.02.002, software version 4.10.xxx) to standard HTC Gingerbread (hboot 2.01.xx software number 3.11.405.2):
- unlock bootloader (from htcdev.com) (I ended up being given the same unlock_code.bin file that I had from the last time I unlocked the phone, even though the 'token' text was different. This is the third time I have unlocked the phone (I re-locked then re-unlocked during an earlier OTA sw ugrade) and each time the unlock file is identical (binary compare equal). Even so for the sake of it since it's a binary file flashed directly I think I'd be safe and still use htcdev to generate a new file 'next time' just to be safe.
- flash custom recovery (i used 4ext) using fastboot
- root by installing superuser using 4ext (making sure to use newest version of superuser = version 3.13(? _signed arm v7). The previous version of superuser that I had used to root the Gingerbread HTC ROM (v3.0?) didn't work with ICS, it flashed OK but still had no root when the phone was running as I noticed by trying to upgrade busybox from within it's app.)
- run the misc_version tool from adb shell and set version to back 1.00.00
- re-lock the bootloader (I think the command was "fastboot oem lock"). This is necessary in order to allow the RUU to run. Took me a while to figure this out as none of the posts I had read mentioned this was necessary.
- apply the RUU for Gingerbread - I originally ran a very early version with hboot 1.13 in) then ran the later ones to bring me back to the last gingerbread version before the ICS upgrade. I don't know if that was strictly necessary, perhaps I could have just gone straight to the one I wanted.
- re-unlock via htcdev (same unlock_code.bin)
- flash custom recovery
- then I could have re-rooted as before but I actually restored an earlier nandroid backup of my rooted HTC gingerbread system so got root that way
Sorry for the lack of specific detail and file name/versions, I'm not a home where all my files are so I can't be sure.

Hi abhijay,
i am on custom rom , how can i go back to stock using gold card, can you please share the steps

[Q] Downgrade HBoot 2.00 Gingerbread 2.3.5 with HTC sence 3.0 "Permission denied"

[Q] Downgrade HBoot 2.00 Gingerbread 2.3.5 with HTC sence 3.0 "Permission denied"
I think it's the right place to ask this question
I read almost every thread, however I got confused and couldn't for the life of me, figure out what to do
Here's the problem that is asked so many times, but all with confusing discussions:
I got HTC Incredible s with Gingerbread 2.3.5 and Hboot 2.00 and software number 3.09.415.2
I did the unlock via HTCdev -------------------> no problem
Installed recovery ---------------------------------> no problem
The problem is, I can't downgrade Hboot 2.00 to 1.16 or 1.13. I face this problem after giving command for adb shell:
cd C:\Android
adb.exe shell
adb misc_version /data/local/tmp/ ----------------> from this point. All i get is "permission denied"
I tried using HTC toolkit, making a gold card (the process in which 3 questions were to answer: you device rooted? - want a goldcard?-got unlocked via HTCdev?) - HIS tool.... none would work and after doing these steps, RUU wouldn't install with the error.
can anyone give me a hand?
thanks
Use the script that is in this thread. It should work just fine.

Just because you have unlocked the bootloader does not mean you are rooted.
You should probably try answering NO to the are you rooted question and see where that gets you.

I did. I responded with no, and of course another time with yes.
but nonetheless, RUU aborts and tells me that I haven't picked the right RUU.
Edit: I forgot to tell, I flashed Superuser through recovery, nothing changed

Flashing SuperUser will give your apps root access, but in order to run the script successfully, you need a ROM that has an unsecured boot.img, such as any custom ROM. Try installing CM 7 and then re-run the script.
That is why you are getting the access denied message while the script is running.

CM7? Where can I find that?
If you mean cm7 ROM, as far as i know, it's a custom ROM. will I be able to install a ROM regarding my cell is s-on and don't have access to root?

You will just be required to pull the boot.img from the .zip file. After installing the ROM, reboot to fasboot menu.
Then type in command: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Both "boot" are required and do not forget the .img at the end. If you changed the file name, just replace the second "boot" in the command line with whatever u renamed it to but do not forget to put .img at the end

I'm sorry, could you expand your answer a little bit and guide me more specifically?
thanks
When u download CM7, its in the form of a .zip file. Open the zip file using winrar or whatever unzipping tool u use. Open it, do not extract it. When you open it, you will find a file named "boot." This is a .img file. Copy (not cut) this file where u have adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and AdbWinApi.dll. I will assume u have these files when u downloaded Android SDK. For simplicity sake, do not rename it. Then put the ROM onto your phone and flash the ROM through your recovery. The boot.img file is in the ROM. After you finish flashing the ROM, reboot to bootloader and from there, enter fastboot mode (shud be the first option. just click power button to select it. Then on you computer, open command prompt and navigate to the file with the boot.img, adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and AdbWinApi.dll. In the command prompt, it should say cd c:/(wherever your android stuff is in)/ another folder maybe for organization)/.....>
from there type in fastboot flash boot boot.img
After a few seconds the ROM will have been flashed to your phone. Reboot and u have CM7 on your phone. Then run the RUU.
If the RUU fails, tell us the error number. Although i dont really know much about this, tpblake does and im sure hed be willing to tell you what the error code means cuz the RUU really doesnt tell u jack.
So I did, step by step
I did all, cm7 worked perfectly. then I did as you said, fastboot boot boot.img
As foreseen, error 155 popped out. "please get the correct ROM update utility and try again"
I would be thankful if you guys help me through.
Yet I have another question. If installing custom ROMs are this easily possible, then why should we do the s-off?

You have to s-off to change hboot , rom , kernel , and radio. If you want to downgrade just relock the bootloader and then run the ruu

Once I did the relock, it faced security problems and wasn't working, so I had to unlock it again.
About the second question of mine, I know what s-off is for. My question is, moments ago I flashed CM7 custom ROM to my phone and it works properly. For installing ROMs, being s-off doesn't seem so necessary. or am I wrong?

Yes this. Error 155 will pop up if u have an unlocked bootloader. Relock bootloader and rerun RUU assuming the script ran everything right
Edit: To your above question, yes S-OFF isnt necessary. However, it is necessary for some ROMs to have S-OFF or Blackrose HBOOT, the latter of which can only be obtained from achieving S-OFF. And what kind of security problems

No you're not. If you want to custom install radio , kernel , hboot and rom need to gain s-off but some rom no need to s-off. Like miui rom need s-off and hboot blackrose. Just ignore the security thingy. I had the same problem before for the security but i just run the ruu and install it works. It say security problem on fastboot rite? Then just run the ruu while you on fastboot mode. Hope it works
Also adb shell command need super permission from the device. You have to root your device.

Oh, I know how. I have this cell phone for about two years. It was root and s-off was due. But some accidents happened and I sent it for warranty, they sent it back with Hboot 2.00.0000.
But my problem is, Beta code sent by revolutionary is invalid when inserted in revolutionary.exe command propmt.
Thank you guys, this worked.
To sum it up, If you have "permission denied" problem with runme - and then, installing the RUU - relock your phone, run the RUU. and everything is there.
Peace
