[Q] [Q] SGN Deep Sleep, Battery drain - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every morning when I unplug my Note from the charger it refuses to go into deep sleep.
What I have to do everytime is :
- Enter Flight Mode
- Restart Phone
- Wait for the phone to load up
- Exit Flight Mode
Only then does it go into Deep sleep. Its pretty annoying to restart your phone every time you unplug the charger/USB connector so i was wondering if there were any startup apps that can be disabled so as to let my phone sleep properly?
I'm running on a Rooted Stock ICS 4.0.3
I know this might have been asked somewhere around his forum but i did use the search button and couldn't find an answer
The second problem I'm facing is extreme battery drain! I have a moderate-high usage with a couple of voice calls and text messaging almost all day. Even when the phone is going into deep sleep my phone is completely drained out of juice in just 4 hours!
I have gone to 12-14 hours with the same usage earlier (Running stock ICS) but now the maximum is 6 hours.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dr ketan said if you have battery problem you need a clean intall.
Go back to gingerbread rom
Your in gingerbread rom now. Do the wiping data, cache and dalvik, do not reboot yet. Take out your battery for one minute put it back again and go directly to download mode and then flash ics rom.

Omg he is on 4.0.3 ICS and this bug is common on the firmwares he can flash over 9000 times the issue will remain.
UNLOCK THE PHONE before unplugging the charger.
UNLOCKING= press home or power button swype with your fingers.
But even then it may have this issue I would recommend to jump to 4.0.4 it solves at least this issue and the l2_hsic wakelock

I upgraded to ICS via the OTA update.
So I should go back to gingerbread, do a factory reset and then update back to ICS via kies or should I use the ICS ROMs available on the internet?

I always do unlock the phone before unplugging the charger. It still doesn't go into deep sleep!
4.0.4 isn't yet available in India (Kies didn't notify me :/ ).
I haven't flashed any custom ROM cause I'm still new at the flashing stuff. Don't wanna make a mistake and brick my phone. The replacement/repair services here in India are the worst!

I haven't used PC odin ever so that puts me at a higher chance of bricking my phone.
But then again, there's always a first time!
Thanks for the help!
Oh and one last thing, could you just point out the wakelocks, which prevent my phone from going into deep sleep, and tell if its safe to remove them?

Try reflashing the rom.
yess !! For all newbes ====>>
after flashing your phone with CUstom rom or stock if you have problem reflash if CWM work or if dont work try with odine in download mode if doanload mode work is great for you past any Stock rom you wont [VER example 2.2,2.3 etc...etc] after this if all work fine and phone reset like factory you are free to past or not a custom rom is simple for all question about how to flash via CWM or odine searche in the XDA forum for [TUTORIAL] thanks and good luck !!! ^^
No no no guys.. don't bother with reflashing and stuff, that's not the problem.. I had the same problem and I googled it for months until I've learned its a Samsung wifi hardware related problem and mostly Galaxy devices are affected. Something is wrong when phone goes in standby. It continues to work but you can't wake it and you have to reinsert battery to get it on again.
The solution is to install a tiny app called Wake Lock, it's there on market.. it keeps phone awake even when you lock screen. My phone doesn't shut off anymore and I can finally rely on it. I don't have to think anymore and check all the time if the phone is off and if I'm going to miss a call...
The alternative is to turn off wifi before you lock screen but I think that most of us need wifi on all the time to get mails and messages on time
true, this is a samsung prob it gave me a hard time many months back.
but also make sure u've wiped data before flashing.
but seriously why is this in accessories?!
I flashed many ROMs and wiped data but my Mini was still shutting down.. the Wake Lock is the real fix, I had no shutdowns for months now
I have the same problem!
Me too have the same prob.. ny sgm also runs in rc5.4 shuts down itself

You would have to check with Slim Bean users and search their thread to see if it's a current issue.
Did you follow the instructions provided, was a full wipe performed and were the steps followed?
Check the ROM thread and verify that this is not a known issue. If it is not and a reflash of the ROM does not resolve the issue, I suggest posting in the thread of the ROM and stating it as an issue.

If you use Ums cod be that you have files in your sdcard that system is using, like a ring tone for instance and you get a soft reboot. Ums has been causing problems in general with us on 4.2,nor sure if present on other roms. You can use mtp as a simple solution.

So, here's something odd. I clean flashed 4.2.2 Build 2 and have everything set back up and working great. I plugged my phone in last night to a USB wall charger and I woke up in the middle of the night and noticed my screen was at the recovery menu. The cursor was "Reboot phone now" (the top option) so, without thinking TOO much about it (I was sleepy), I just pressed the Power button to reboot the phone and went back to sleep. I woke up a bit later to my phone sequencing over and over through the "wait" icon, the "empty battery" icon, the empty battery icon again and then restarting itself. I unplugged the phone, pulled the battery and reinserted it, and without pressing the Power button to restart the phone, the wait/battery/battery/restart sequence started up again.
I unplugged the phone, removed the SIM and external SD card and went and got a backup battery (thinking maybe my Anker 1800 mAh battery went bad), and it seemed to help the phone restart -- ONCE. I then shut down the phone, unplugged the USB cable and tried to restart the phone and the original issue reappeared. I've been able to the phone to go into Download Mode and see it with Odin, but I'm wondering if this is some sort of odd bootloader program issue. I was finally able to get the phone to restart without the SIM card and everything appears to be back to normal, but I'm afraid to turn it off again to reinsert the SIM/SD cards.
Does this sound like something anyone else has experienced? The phone is from Jan 2011 so I'm not sure if this is hardware failure or something else software/bootloader related. I think the USB cable connection is starting to get touchy as I hear the connection "beep" going off and on in Windows when the USB cable and I'm not even touching the phone or cable.
Edit: I don't necessarily need to continue the full discussion of my issue in this thread unless anyone thinks this is ROM-related.
Well my rom doesn't touch bls neither does the kernel AFAIK. And I flash a lot on my cappy including kernels/rooms for vibrant and i9000, and haven't had that. I would recommend re downloading rom and add ons, just in case, full wipe and re flash. If you want to be sure it isn't bls being corrupted Odin and repartition a stock rom with gb bls.

[Q] Bizarre screen issues after flashing

Hello guys,
I have around 2-year old Note GT-N7000 which I tried flashing a week ago. I did a few steps (don't remember any though) and something went wrong. Everything with the phone was working fine except the keyboard was typing 'null' and the screen had a weird problem. The phone will boot normally and the screen would be fine until it turns off (auto off or manually by button). Now if I try to switch on the screen it would start as if it's warming up. A sky with tiny stars kind of scene would appear and the brightness will keep increasing. The phone is functioning at this point and so is screen but nothing can be seen. I know this because I can receive a phone in this state by guessing the swipe location and swiping. Once in this mode, I have no option but to restart the phone. And then again everything works fine as long as I do not let the screen go off.
I got panicked and after a full research of 5 days on XDA, I decided to flash another ROM, probably a JB. I rooted my phone, install CWMR, bought mobile odin pro only to mess the things further. I downloaded the Ultimate Alliance ROM v3 and tried flashing it using the mobile odin. I guess I didn't follow the instructions properly and the phone went into bootloop. I then flashed GB KJ1 using ODIN which landed me at N7000 screen freeze and not able to enter recovery mode. Then I flashed AbyssKernel which helped me boot properly. Once I was in I realized I'm still on GB so probably JB never got installed.
Now the current problems are:
1. The keyboard is still typing nulls
2. The screen is still going into comma
3. There is a yellow triangle at the GT-N7000 screen.
My phone version is:
Baseband version: N7000XXLSO (it was N7000DDLR1 two hours ago)
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKJ1-CL627135
Build No: GINGERBREAD.XXKJ1
Sorry all this is noob stuff and maybe there is a solution in the forum already but after 5 nights of research and lots of messing around, I am not sure what do I do next. I certainly don't want to hard brick the phone.
Desperately need your help to come out of this mess. Even I'm happy to have the oldest stock ROM.
Thanks in anticipation and sorry for the long post.

Jesus Christ, way to get yourself into a mess... The null keyboard just means you have to reflash the csc correctly. Extract the gb rom file and it should reveal a csc file, input that into the csc part of mobile odin and flash.
Screen problems... How old is your battery?
Triangle issue, just download triangleaway app from play store and run.
Hopefully you've learnt something about following directions to a t. Don't think you've done any lasting damage though, you're lucky.

Thanks a lot for the quick help.
The battery is as old as the phone i.e. about 2 years.
I had flashed the same phone around an year ago and I faced similar screen issue when I tried flashing ICS last year and then I reflashed GB (the current ROM I guess) and the problem disappeared. Do you think it could be because of wrong flashing as well?
Is there is safe route to a relatively safe flashing which could reassure whether I should buy a new battery or not? Or shall I go ahead and invest in the battery regardless?
Thanks once again.

Safest flash would be to flash latest gb rom for your region. I'd be amazed if the battery wasn't dead though, they usually only last just over a year. Symptoms of dead battery are screen flicker, sudden power loss and gain, physical swelling (put on flat surface and spin) colour change on screen, amongst other things.
