Hi every one, I'm really tired from trying new Rom's every 24H :cyclops: , non of them was stable , so I made this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29336253#post29336253 ) and got Surprised that some of friends said there is too many stable Rom's ,so I start thinking is there some thing wrong with what I do ! and here is the list:
1- wipe data + cash
2- wipe devlak cash +battery state
3- go to storage and format every thing but SD card
4-flash the rom
5-sing in in my Google account than backup my contacts
6- open file manger then downloading MyBackUp Pro and restore my App's
7- sing in my FB, twitter, instgram,whatsapp,viber...
8-sync my FB contacts
9- charge my phone fully then apply battery Calibration
10- start using my phone
while after stable using , FB and twitter start to force close , than I got the message :the process com.google.gapps ..... force close ,also the process include the word (media) ,I turned off the phone and restart it , the phone is stack at logo , so why this is keep happening to me , and plz if there any recomandation for a stable rom and a kernal that gave a good battery life+low temperature (since I live in a country where 37 degree noun as a nice weather )
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
You're making this way to complicated,
This is all you need to do.
Dont restore the app from mybackpro. It gives FC a lots of time.
Hey
You need to flash the rom and KEEP it that way for some time after finishing the set up..
plus you are loading too many apps(i m guessing)...use astro instead...and flash only a lil apps...
after a day or two u can flash how many ever apps you phone can support...
and u dont really need to Clear boot stats and format everything...

Hi,
Complete xda n00b here. Sorry if I am posting this to the wrong place, but I couldn't post in the Dev forum for obvious n00bishness.
I've searched all the other threads but have come up with no answers
I'm running Dark Knight 3 with the Devil kernel. It's a fantastic rom, so fast and smooth. I love it. But the TV-Out does not work. I tick the necessary boxes, and run it on PAL (I'm UK) but there is no picture on the TV screen. I have sound, and can play audio files, but no visual
Any help that can be offered to fix the problem would be massively appreciated!
thanks
I cannot speak directly for Dark Knight, but a lot of these ICS roms are not fully complete... so the TV out just might not be working..
I thought that might be the case. But wasn't sure if it was an issue that would be relatively easy to fix.
Thanks!
You must turn TV-out ON in GalaxyS settings
No space left on device
Hi!
I really want to have this rom on my rooted GT-I9000 (with brand 2.3.5 from Orange (Poland)), so:
1) download and copy DK 4.0.4 to sd card
2) download and install clockwork rom manager
3) flash CWMR
4) reset smartphone in recovery mode (from CWRM)
5) wipe to factory data
6) clear cache
7) select rom (zip) to update
After a few second get: short write of /temp/slideload/package.zip ( no space left on device )
So, I:
8) download and install titanium backup
9) delete almost all non-core applications -> now I have 80-70 MB free space on phone memory
10) back to point 4 and get the same error :/
so, I:
11) try to flash rom directly from CWRM -> clear cache, wipe data, clear dalvik and select rom and... get the same error
What to do? (my sd card is almost empty)
Do a search because I remember reading a fix for that. Something about clearing a specific folder.

Ok this might sound retarded but I just installed a new rom (temasek's KANG)on my phone after some of you guys suggested it to me.
Anyways, it worked fine, but the ROM doesn't include Google play or Gmail app? wtf? Why would that not be included? I can't do anything without google play I can't install any of my apps...
I tried installed the APK files for google play and when I start it it says :
"You must add an account to the device to continue. Do you want to add one now ?" When I click Yes, the app just closes back to home screen....
The gmail app crashes in a similar way
I've on this for hours.. you can't imagine how much I've been messing with my phone for stuff to work properly and there is always something retarded like this not working... :|
edit:
also I can't seem to be able to delete apps, why is this?
You need to flash a separate addon called gapps which includes essential google files and the market (play store). Gmail is downloadable from market.
Download gapps from here and flash from recovery.

I also installed the latest Temasek's build but I'm having a problem with battery drain. Back when I used stock based roms and horsepower kernel my phone would lose about 7% battery while it was idle during the night. Now I got to bed and when I wake up my phone has lost 20-30% of its battery. I know this isn't the right forum but since I can't post in dev section and Temasek has replied to this thread maybe I could get a little help?
Help, please!
I'm new here and the first ROM I've tried installing was RC1 91 but after I finished the procedure, my phone doesn´t leave LG home screen and rebooting. What did I do wrong?
Steps:
- Root;
- Download the ROM;
- Copy in external memory;
- Power off the phone;
- Boot in recovery;
- Backup current ROM;
- Wipe cache partition and wipe data/factory reset;
- Wipe dalvik cache
- Finally, flash ROM and reboot.
And the restore isn´t work too.
Can anyone please help?
I just installed the Ultimate JB ROM XXLSA 4.1.2 v5 upgrade on top of v4.
All went perfectly well and I was able to enter all my setup and account details after the initial boot of the phone.
When I tried to re-install apps from Google Play, however, (Titanium Backup Pro, Quickboot) the phone hangs at the Samsung Splash screen and won't go any further. I re-tried the procedure 3 times but each time the result is the same.
Can anyone tell me what the problem could be? I followed all the instructions about wiping etc. correctly.
Trevor
v4 and v5 use completely different bases (LS7 and LSA).
I would save everything to my ext SD card.
Then goto Settings > Backup & Restore > Factory Reset (don't click on format external sd card).
Your phone will restart and do some crazy things. Then restart again.
When you get to the welcome page, or bootloop... take the battery out (its safe).
Then hold Vol Up, Home and Power (let go of Power after ~5-15sec) and goto recovery.
In recovery, wipe cache.
Then format data.
Then format system.
Then format cache.
Then wipe Dalvik cache.
Then install the v5 zip.
It shouldn't restart automatically, but it might, don't worry let it.
Now you should have a fully, fresh, clean install of v5.
Connect to your wifi, go through the start up.
Goto SuperSU and update binary.
Goto Play Store and install TiBu.
Open TiBu and grant it root access.
Close TiBu.
Connect phone to PC, then copy your TitaniumBackup folder into your sdcard directory.
Open TiBU and now, it will see your previous saves.
Restore your apps + data.
Presto! No bootlooping and no App FC !
Thanks for going to all the trouble to write all that out.
I followed the instructions to the letter but no, same result I'm afraid: it worked fine but as soon as I installed Titanium and granted root access, it asked me to choose to restore the original phone ID which I did. The phone rebooted but then wouldn't go past the "Samsung Galaxy Note Gt-N7000" screen.
I have no choice but to restore from my Nandroid backup. This is really p****ng me off but at least I can restore v4 easily.
Thanks again

Mystery solved - well partly. Turns out Titanium Backup Pro was causing it on my phone for some reason. This was naturally the first app I wanted to install so I could restore apps one by one from the Nandroid backup. I tried Quickboot too which also caused the same problem so because TB and then QB did the same thing I assumed every app was going to cause trouble. Shouldn't jump to conclusions, I know.
I have JB Ultimate XXSLA v5 installed and am restoring my apps one at a time from Google Play and making new Nandroid backups as I go along.
And now I just tried installing TB free version - the phone boots normally! Then I installed the TB Pro version and again the phone boots normally. When TB was the first app I installed after the ROM upgrade it hung up the phone every time on 6 attempts. I'll try re-installing Quickboot now and see what happens. Conclusion: I must have been doing something in the wrong sequence but can's see what.
Many thanks for your help.

I have Samsung i897 Captivate (i9000) with SlimICS 4.1.1 Cyanogenmod installed.
Yesterday morning I've found, that my phone is repeatedly show me boot screen (video on boot with many blinking pieces/elements colors shown to me), but did not load an Android at all. I've tried to reboot the phone (with battery eject), but nothing changes: phone shows start-up animations repeatedly.
Last my action evening before was setting alarm (usual task that I've done for one year probably). Dont know what reason to reboot was, maybe no free space available, but dont sure. Before this problem with load I have no problems with phone at all.
I have Clockworkmod installed, but there's no options to boot an Android in safe mode or some similar options. I could get access to the internal phone memory, but not for system partitions. I've tried to wipe dalvik/cache, fix permissions, but no changes at boot.
So could you gents help me to get access to the filesystem: I have memo's & uncynchronised contacts & SMS, which I would like to save before do anything. I know how to reinstall the system (I have backup for it, but not for contacts & memo's).
Thanks.

The I9000 and the I897 are 2 different phones. I9000 is the international version of the Captivate, therefor, if you flashed the I9000 bootloaders on a I897 Captivate, you'll have distorted colors/screen.
What exactly was done to the phone before this happened?
Pardon, I have AT&T i897 Captivate phone. I did not flashed, nor updated phone, nothing similar, that could affect phone booting process. Just set an alarm (default, from Clocks), then go sleep. In morning found that my phone stuck in boot process - it show boot-up animation but don't load OS.

Have you tried re-flashing the ROM (Without factory reset)? Wipe cache and dalvik.

No, I'm no so clean understand reflashing process, so worry to lost my data (I know that my contacts lie here - /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts , but can't found where memo's saved). I could choose "Restore /system" from
"Backup & Resore -> Advanced" in CWM, you mean this?

Yes, did it, but no changes at boot at all (wait there >10 minutes).

Reflashing your ROM won't touch your data as long as you don't wipe/factory reset. It's what we call a dirty flash, you just wipe cache/dalvik and flash your ROM again with the Gapps.
Thank you for the way to resolve the problem. Spend some time to understand the process of reflashing. Now I collected all files (bootloader, ROM, essentials, gapps and so on of my actual setup) and ready to reflash it with Heimdall.
But still have a question: is there any possibilities to get access to filesystem (for maybe just copy all files from system partitions into Big Brother) before take action in my case?
Will I get access to my contacts & memo's after reflashing? As I understand, if I reflash phone, /data & /datadata partitions (as part of freshy ROM reinstall) will be touched too, then I lost as minumum link to the Wizard Memo (and I'm not sure that installing it from Google Play will restore access to my memo's).
As you could realise, I have no actual backup of my data, so asking maybe dumb questions (
Could I simple use Clockwork's mod option "Restore /system" & "Restore /data" (as I have it in almost fresh backup - 2 months ago)? Will it be analogue to reflashing? Or it revert /system and /data to the stage when it was make, with contacts, programs and so on with 2 months ago state, not current?

I guess i wasn't so clear. What I mean by reflashing is to simply get in recovery mode and reflashing RemICS and their Gapps. Not to start fresh with stock.

You explained well, errors on my side Resolved this issue with copying all data from filesystem, then reflashing with fresh slimrom . For those who fall into same situation: you could get access to filesystem of your phone trough ADB tool, and just copy sensible data to another partition/SD/device. See QtADB program also, very friendly for that.
Hi All,
my first time using a forum and first time attempting to install a custom ROM so be nice . i have done some research around the net but I'm now more confused than before i have read that i need to install software to back up my current ROM but before that it needs to be rooted but before i can root it i should back up the current ROM (confusing...), i have also read that galaxy note 1 users have some serious bugs in the kernel so its very risky rooting it never mind putting a custom ROM on it, that the IEMI in the EFS partition will be wiped so that should be backed up after rooting but before flashing with a new ROM otherwise i wont be able to connect to my network i have searched the forum and found guides but nothing for my phone and nothing in as much layman's terms as i need.
Phone: Samsung galaxy note GT-N7000, last over the air update was 12 months ago for android v 4.1.2
base band version n7000xxlt3 kernel version 3.0.31-1103517 [email protected]#3 smp preempt tue jun 4 20:55:52 KST 2013 build number J2054k.N7000XXLT9
bought 2 years ago on t mobile currently running on giff-gaff
knowledge: some but evidently not enough tried to fix a bug on a tablet and didn't back it up first, bricked it and a year later its still in my draw
i have a lot of stuff on my phone, 2 years worth of stuff and while iv done the odd manual back up knowing im about to flatten it completely i want to back it up completely first, document videos pics contacts apps messages everything i can possibly back up i will
so what i need:
a total walk through precautions on what i should do and in what order i.e. backing up in general, backing up efs, rooting, backing up current rom, flashing a rom ect
what software i should use for the above?
the best 3 ROM's available for GT-N7000 or just peoples opinions will do I'm looking for something with added features and a a fresh look as I'm really bored of the phone now
sorry if this is already somewhere else and please feel free to make fun of the new guy as long as i can perform a successful flash my phone i will be happy!
Many thanks in advance
@ckershaw here is what you need to do. As you have a lot on your phone, connect it to pc and transfer all the data. Then look for Philz kernel and download kernel matching your build number XXLT9. Download the .zip file and put it on your external sd card. Reboot to recovery pressing volume up+power+home button and flash the .zip file there. It will give you custom cwm and root. You can now install titanium backup pro or such application to backup your user apps (don't backup and restore system apps). Once done, you can again reboot to recovery and take a backup of your whole rom (make sure you select EFS folder too to backup). Once you have the backup on your external SD card or trasnferred to pc. Perform full wipe (factory reset from philz recovery). Then go to mounts and storage and also wipe /system /cache /data and internal sd card. Once you are done, flash raw kernel (either r4 or r5) from external sd card and reboot recovery and flash the latest kit kat rom (any of your choice) along with Gapps. Raw kernel is only if you are trying to flash any kit kat rom, else philz kernel should suffice.

hi thanks for the info!
when i say uber noob i do have lots of experience with phones and computers as its what i do for a living im also a quick learner so i figured it out myself last night, granted i was at it till 02:30 in the morning but i figured it out and that's almost exactly what i did, the only thing i did differently was i wiped it but i didn't 'Then go to mounts and storage and also wipe /system /cache /data and internal sd card' but all is working very well and it feels like i have a new phone i did have 1 annoying issue that was the Google keyboard crashed every 5 seconds so had to keep clearing the notifications for it but i solved that by disabling it and pushing a different one from the play store.
one thing i do need help with however is i made a manual backup of the phone but not sure if i got everything, i did a full backup with kies.. that was a mistake! as the phone isn't recognized as a Samsung device i cant restore the backup, i would like to try to manually extract the file but i have looked around and been told you can only recover calendar and contacts, i want to recover images, videos, sms, call logs all that sort of stuff.. any ideas? has anything been developed recently for that as all the posts i looked out although relevant are rather outdated its a .sbu file
Thanks

If all your efforts are for naught, maybe I'd suggest that you flash a stock rom, restore all your stuff via Kies again, and this time backup them in your PC instead. Do not worry about deleting your media (Images, video, music) if you do a factory wipe reset from a custom recovery as they are not set to delete those files. to back up sms, call logs and contacts calendar n stuff, you can install superbackup app from playstore. Takes time n effort to restore but I think it's worth it. Good Luck bro:good:

Thanks,
last one i promise my battery has been draining in an average of 4 hours and my phone is constantly hot since putting this ROM on i have 3 battery's i charge externally via an external charger and that just about lasts me the day i have a power management app called battery doctor that is great and if it wasn't for that I'm sure it would only last half the amount, i have checked and Google+ keeps starting up every time i close it even if i force it to stop and it's used 96% of my battery today i have only actually used the phone for about 3 minutes today. ond its only been off charge for 3 hours is it OK to disable it what else wont work if i do. is there any reason its doing this surely that's not normal?
Thanks

My best suggestion would be to delete google+. Otherwise use Titanium Backup to freeze or greenify it. The best is still to delete it though.
