[Q] Windows Phone 7? - LG Optimus Black

Is it possible to port/flash Windows Phone 7 to Optimus Black? I really want to give it a try if it is possible. If HTC HD2 got it, why can't OB?

htc hd2 was actually a windows mobile

But officially no win mobile 6.5 phone got win phone 7 update right?

yep
But that's probably because HD2's internal architecture is very likeable... It support Windows Mobile 6.5, WP7, Android (Froyo-Jelly bean )
Porting another OS on an Android device would be extremely hard!!! The only ones I know is ICS in a Nokia N9 and the HD2..

If you want to port WP for Optimus Black, you should just wait WP8 which will be far better than WP7 (But I don't really see the point in having WP on our device)
(Well, I'll look into porting Firefox OS when it'll be stable enough (We can currently run it on Crespo, SGSII, and GNex) or Open webOS)

Actually Windows Phone 7 OS only support snapdragon processors and our lg optimus black has an cortex A8 processor which is not supported by windows phone 7 hecne we cannot port it to optimus black

Have any ideas with new OS for Milestone (GSM)

I really love Windows Mobile OS but my uncle gave me a Milestone for my birthday! I wonder that could anyone have an idea to set up Windows Mobile OS on my Milestone. I think this is a best combination! Maybe I'm so silly but I'm still hoping.
Waiting for news!!!
This would be nearly impossible if not impossible because of the locked bootloader no custom kernel can be loaded to run windows mobile

The nearest approach for windows is "Android windows 7" from android market.
You can use skin which look just like winmo 7 home screen. It's somewhere here.Search forums...

Thanks for all your helps and advice ! Maybe I will use the Windows 7 skin but I still hoping for a complete setup of Win mobile on my device . As you known, many device which use Windows mobile can use Android as the second OS, so why's the device that use Android can't use Windows mobile? The hardware configuration of Milestone is good enough to run Windows mobile 6.5 or maybe above (like Win 7). Why don't Motorola give an unlock bootloader on this device? It will a big problem for many modders in the world
PS: Sorry if my English is so bad.

I have a solution. You should sell the MS for somebody. According to you buy new smartphone that it is supported by WM. Recommending HTC HD 2 or 7
Android is open source so it can be ported to other devices.
WM/WP7 is not open source and can't be ported to other devices that shipped with a different OS i.e. Android. Even if you could it would be illegal to so do.
Android is so much better than WM/WP7 that you must be on some good w&&d if you think otherwise =P Learn to love Android and flash the good ROMs that people have made for Milestone, or sell your phone to someone who can appreciate it and get something that fits you "needs" better.
FYI a bit of searching on XDA would have answered this question without wasting time.

Is that a serious question?

Seems like a legitimate question to me, ViewSonic's ViewPad 10 already does Android-Windows dualbooting, and XDA itself has a thread about dualbooting the HD2 with WM and Android.
If the OP's asking about Android and iOS specifically though, then probably the answer might be no. If someone could do it though, it might actually be a good thing for the Android crowd: shows the Apple fans that choice and customizability is a good thing.
I was thinking the other day that my Tab would be pretty cool if running Windows Thin PC, saw info and a download on the MS site the other day while working on my wifes netbook.
I dont see a problem with either a full working version of Ubuntu or Windows on the GT and Android, or just the full OS. Seems reasonable to put an OS on what is essentially a tablet PC.
I would think its just a matter of a bios, and loading the OS, but I am not a programmer, so I could very well be wrong.
But....I'd load Windows or Ubuntu on the tab if it gave me the 3G ability as well as all other functions.

IIRC I think there's already a thread on XDA on bringing Ubuntu to the Tab. With Windows it might be trickier. The ViewSonic ViewPad 10 runs on Intel Atom, which is already used by other netbooks that run Windows. Windows might not be designed to run on ARM however, which is used on many Android devices. Processor design differences may be the key factor in porting the OS. (I've gotten Gingerbread to run on my Atom netbook though, alas I still couldn't get the touch screen to work)
Would be the first to jump onto dualbooting Android with Windows if it ever comes to fruition though; I'm a Windows developer and it'll be cool if I could write small apps and use them on my Tab.

You can't run Windows because there is currently no ARM version, though MS say that they will support ARM in Windows 8, but by the time this sees the light of day, the Tab will be obsolete.
There is a thread in the dev forum about porting Ubuntu to the Tab, but I believe it is still a long way from fully functional.

Dave
I already posted the question about fully functions in ubuntu for the tab. Specially the phone and sms functions but they denied it. I keep following and hope some day it will work

since both iOS and Android are ARM based in most cases, you could probably make it happen.
Both Android and iOS are Unix based, so we could achieve this.
Also
It could be easier to port iOS than Honeycomb because iOS source code is avalaible for public, for improvements and bug seeking.
So, Yes, we could have dual OS on the tab, it could be windows, Ubuntu, Maemo, iOS and even Symbian

Windows 7 on the Touchpad?

Any chance of or anyone know how to put win 7 onto my touchpad? I think it would make a great candidate for it.
Not possible natively as W7 doesn't offer an ARM port, unlike W8, which will. Now W7 via an emulator, that is another story.
As tbaker wrote you -
different architecture -
Mac OS & Windows uses x86/x86-64.
Android & iOS uses ARM.
Windows 8 will be also compiled against ARM.
TouchPad is Snapdragon ARM based.
Another thing to keep in mind is how much source is available.
Android is Open-Source from ground so usually once drivers are being written you can get it up & running to some extent.
Not the same with other platforms (Eg. W7 & iOS on Android devices)

W7 would run like absolute garbage on it most likely.
Windows 7 isn't ARM compliant but Windows 7 Compact Embeded is.
oups no it's not.
Sorry, i reboot my brain :
- Windows Embedded Compact 7 can run on ARM, MIPS, x86
- Windows Embedded Standard 7 can run on x86 / x64 only.
- Windows Phone 7 can be an another option to run Windows on HP touchpad...

I know dos-box already exists, you could probably do qemu under chrooted ubuntu... Windows 7 would probably work, you'd be on the VERY low side of usable ram (~700mb), and I can guarantee it would be so slow that it isn't worth using. A stripped version of XP... might be worth looking into.
Like that :
google "Microsoft shows off Windows Embedded Compact 7 (Windows CE 7) tablet with Metro-Like UI"
Interesting what will it take to get Windows 7 Compact installed on the TP?
More work than its worth.

I wonder if Windows Phone 7.5 has the required drivers to run on the touchpad. Ram should be fine as most windows phones are running on 512mb ram
Yes sure, WP7 is based on Windows CE 7.

Windows 7 on the Touchpad - possible or not?
Hey Guys!
As far as I remember...the Touchpad first was designed to be used with Windows 7 (wasn´t it?). After a while they distinguished between the slate and the touchpad...so is it possible, to get Windows 7 working on the Touchpad?
Not in a million years.
Windows 7 won't ever be ported to the ARM architecture.
Windows 8 is possible, but highly unlikely since the ARM version won't be available through retail channels.

Dual booting Windows Mobile 7 and Android on G2X/O2X

Hello all,
I was just wondering if dual booting Windows 7 OS and Android was possible on LG O2X. I know that it is possible on HTC HD2, but hoping that similar stuff could be there for the LG O2X.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Donate your 2x to cotulla and pray for magldr 2x edition.. that would be great start.. otherwise i think its not possible because we dont have drivers for wp7 and never will.. it was lot of reverse engeneering for hd2 which is almost identical hw wise as wp7 native hd7.

Hi i was a proudly propietary of HD2 (without any doubt the best device i ever had on my hands). The thing is the development of devices is derectly proportional with the amount of people have this one...Another way WP7 came to HD2 more than two years after first sale...So be patient...

[Q] Windows Phone 7 for O2X

Is it possible to install Windows Phone 7 (or 7.5) on LG Optimus 2X? Or is it not possible because of the hardware?
No it isnt, you would need bootloader, drivers and w7 source for that. And lot lot lot of skill, reverse engeneering and a lot of spare o2xs.

Why is there always people wanting to install Windows on Android devices... Same on my Asus tablet, people complain that Windows is not available.....
Buy a Windows device!
I was the same back in hd2 times. When wp7 came to it i was realy exited about it until i flashed it wp7 reminds me some dump one purpose only phone. The apps are bad joke and games as well.

Why would you want to do this?! As already said, buy a Windows phone!
LG E900 Optimus 7 (used) is quite cheap ...
You can try Launcher 7, i'ts a launcher witch imitates the WP7 style. Pretty good
--> Available on the market
