Sprint HTC Hero (Non-Google Branded)
Fresh Rom 1.0 with De-Fresh and Nexus One Boot screen
Recovery 1.5.2
16GB SD Card
So this is what i know.
1) I already know that Fresh 1.0 has A2SD support built within it.
2) I know to go to Recovery and use the format SD (I used these settings)
Swap:516, Ext3:516, Fat32: Rest ammount
3) Did this once before and it seemed that all my apps were on SD card (when i took it out and reboot, all my apps were gone. When i put it back in then reboot they all back on phone)
What i need to know.
1) How do i choose which apps/games to transfer over to SD card.
2) Where are they on my SD card? (Could not see it when i checked the SD card)
3) When you do this are all of the apps off of the phone memory? or are the apps still able to stay on phone.
What i essentially want to do.
1) i just want to be able to easily use A2SD to backup and easily transfer my apps/games back and fourth if i need to.
Any usable help would be greatly appreciated ^^ thanks.

If someone has better info please correct me if I'm wrong
1. When you install a ROM with apps2sd, as long as you have your SD card formated properly everything except for stock roms are transfered. If they were not, uninstall and install in the market and should go to SD card.
2. On fresh rom I noticed (atleast for me) that the app and app-private folders were in /system/sd/
3. All of your downloaded apps will be on your SD card. Stock apps (sprint apps and what came with the phone etc.) will still be on the phone's memory.
I use ES File Explorer and just copy the app and app-private folders when i want to backup all my downloaded apps. Pretty easy app to use and supports root.

You don't. If it's in /data, it gets moved. This means that applications that come with the phone, which are in /system, do not get moved. The symlink solution means that you cannot easily choose applications to leave on the phone.

Correct. They are on the EXT partition you created, oddly enough just like the documentation says. You cannot see this partition. If you are so inclined, you can adb into the phone and see it mounted on /system/sd.
3) When you do this are all of the apps off of the phone memory? or are the apps still able to stay on phone.

Applications shipped with the phone stay on the phone. Data directories created by downloaded applications stay on the phone. You will still see space on the phone being used.

A2SD has nothing to do with a backup solution and is not necessary for you to back anything up. Pick one of the umpteen backup applications available in the Market and go to town.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE PARTITION, JUST FOLLOW THIS [this guide apply to all Rom that are supported cache to ext]
If you already have partition, just factory reset and reinstall rom and you'll have 165mb.
165mb left in a rom is a quite much. After i installled 100++ apps+games, it still has 130mb left. (None of the apps is moved to the SD)

OMG? too long's post? then go 2nd post which is shorter
Sounds impossible? But it is possible!
Wondering how??? Lets start.
What you must have
Hardware: Rooted HTC Wildfire, Micro SD Card, Card reader
1st, You need a wildpuzzle rom 2.2.1 (V0.6 gives 165mb, v0.7 160mb, v0.8 102mb[without cache move to ext]) Wildpuzzle rom 2.2.1 download page
2nd, Make sure that you BACKUP your SD card (copy whole SD card to computer).
3rd, Move wildpuzzle rom 2.2.1 that you have already downloaded to the SD card (DONT delete the copy in computer).
4th, You need to WIPE ALL THE DATA (wipe/factory reset) in your wildfire and make sure that you have already made a backup of your rom before wiping.
5th, Make sure that you backup your SD card with your BACKUP (backup-ed rom).
6th, Run in recovery mode and select wipe/factory reset the data.
7th, Choose install zip from SD and install your wildpuzzle rom 2.2.1.
8th, After your rom has successfully copied to the system (phone), reboot your phone and wait for a few minutes. (it may take up to 10minutes)
9th, Now simply set up your data (you may ignore them, you don't need it).
10th, Go in to the rom manager, and choose partition SD. Default is ok. (I use 512mb, swap 0mb)
11th, Now your SD card will be wiped and will be partitioned.
12th, Now shut down your phone (take the battery out).
13th, Take out your SD card and copy your wildpuzzle rom 2.2.1 to SD once again (make sure your phone is FULLY OFF).
14th, Now select system wipe (wipe/factory reset). [Dont worry about the partition, it won't format SD card]
15th, Install the wildpuzzle rom 2.2.1 once again and wait for a few minutes.
16th, After successfully installed, you can set up your personal info. Now go to menu > setting > sd and phone storage > and you will see 160mb++ left.
17th, Now you can ignore the move to SD, you can leave all the apps in phone but after you have fully installed your apps, try to reboot. It will takes UP TO 10 MINUTES to move the apps to ext [It will take quite a long time, dont worry].
[P.S. It DOESN'T move the apps to sd, your apps still in phone, it only move 9/10 of the file size (MB) to ext and reduce the size in phone. So you have more available space in phone.]
18th, You're done!
Please go menu > setting > SD & Phone storage > and check available space.
IF IT IS LESS THAN 160MB, THERE IS PROBLEMS, please try again

***Something that you cant do***
1st, Mount as disk drive in USB is working.
[If you hate taking the SD out, here is the solution. Use Dropbox, a apps that you can download in your phone and computer. You can upload files to dropbox and download in phone. So nothing to worry about mp3.. files.. and games..]
2nd, DON'T simply take out the SD card without FULLY shut down the phone.
3rd, DON'T press unmount SD. Your phone will not working and hang.
If you need to move apps from computer to SD, FULLY shut down the phone and take out your SD and use a card reader.
What if partition not working? Showed >> [a Triangle with a Exclamation point]
1st, try take out your battery and try reboot and partition it again.
2nd, if it is still not working after several tries, try to go market and download the ROM Manager in market.
After partition, your files still in SD card?
1st, try go partition again.
2nd, your phone isn't root yet.
3rd, try another SD card.
When you want to connect your SD card by using Card Reader, it shows "You have to format before using it"
1st, try to get a new Card Reader.
2nd, try another SD card.
I need to change the size of my ext, How??
1st, backup your phone
2nd, copy SD to PC
3rd, go menu > setting > sd and phone storage > unmount SD > format sd
4th, create partition
5th, copy SD from PC
6th, go recovery, restore your phone
7th, all ext and files will restore to ext.
8th, restart and done.
I want cache move to ext. what should i do??
Use this code to move cache to ext.
You may install 0.6 rom then install 0.8 rom without wiping the old rom. And ext partition still working.
if not, you need to use this.
Code:
a2sd cachesd (move dalvik to sd card)
a2sd cachesdreset (move dalvik to sd card and clears contents of dalvik-cache)
a2sd cachepart (move dalvik to cache partition)
a2sd cachepartreset (move dalvik to cache partition and clears contents of dalvik-cache)
I want the apps that have in Wildpuzzle rom 0.6, and 0.8 doesn't have it. How???
Dont worry, you can create your own update zip or apps and install it by visiting How to create your own zip?

Hi melvinchng :
You did a great job.
But i have a little suggestion.
Since the rom mnnager only 3 options (128M 256M 512M),if i want to partition at difference size, it cannot be done at RM.
So partition SD card before install the ROM, (use Gparted or others,1 for fat32,1 for ext2 or ext3 ),then it can shorten the steps,
just install ROM once.
Thanks.
The reason for more space is because dalvik cache has been moved to sd

You can make and delete partitions directly on ADB SHELL using fdisk.
Code:
fdisk /dev/block/mmcblk0
and next type m to show what you can do here.

Yes, you can do what you want, but there is more complicated because you don't use MB, but cylinders.
There is small tutorial chow use fdisk if you want: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Partition/fdisk_partitioning.html
I only have 98,56 MB free (
hi really good tutorial but i got a prob i followed this step bye step but it nt worked properlly think i only got a 101 mb left and when i install apps they install on phone memory any advice welcome:d
or shud i just do dtapp2sd?????
I have found the stability of the system gets compromised when important apps like home start running off the sdcard. The sdcard deteriorates with usage faster than internal memory. So overall, be careful of running everything off sdcard. Nice to see free space but not at cost of stability.

No difference, if u move to sd, after reboot, u need to wait for SD card to prepare the apps. If u put in phone memory, the apps is in the phone once u reboot. u save a lot of time on waiting apps from sd

I tried it before, mount as SD, and whole phone not working. after reboot, only 98mg left
I rooted.
I flashed attn1 R012
I ADB'd (why?)
I partitioned with ROM Manager
I cannot get an app from Market to work to move my apps to SD.
Did I install the wrong ROM for this?
I thought this was supposed to be a feature of this ROM.
Al I wanted to be able to do was get rid of bloatware and move the apps to the SD.
This is getting overwhelming.
What do I do?

Ok, I did a2sd reinstall at terminal emulator.
I downloaded Titanium free to go with my unlock version.
Here's what I see now:
Internal 194MB (117MB Free)
SD Card 7.61 GB (6.65GB Free)
SD Card (a2sd) 239 MB (124MB Free)
So, looks like it is setup now, right?
Thanks for your help!
I should probably increase the a2sd size; I don't have nearly all of the apps I want
okay my first post!
I did the above mentioned all looks good. Do have to do this every once in a while to move the apps to the sd card or will all future downloaded apps be moved to the sd card at download?
All future downloads/installations will automatically be placed on the ext partition. So nope, just do it once, make sure it's installed, and you're ready to take off.
Thanks for the response.
1. If I flash another rom with a2sd do i have to do anything special in regards to the apps on the on the ext.
2. Is the devlik cache also moved to the Sd card now? If not how would I move it?
3. If I replace the sd card with a new one would I just format and create the ext partion and how do I get the apps off the old card?
Thanks in advance

1. if you're using DT a2sd then yes you will need to reflash it after flashing a new rom.
2. again if using DT a2sd you will have to go into the terminal emulator and type 'su', hit enter. Then type 'a2sd cachesd'. This will move your dalvic to the ext. On the built a2sd there is no option to do this.
3. to get the apps of the old ext partition you will need some form of a linux operating system such as ubuntu (you can run ubunty right off a cd or usb without actually installing it to your computer) and you can literally just copy and paste. Windows does not do this as it cannnot see you ext partition and I have no idea if Mac can or not.
Understood.
Thanks for the quick response.
So I have four partitions in my galaxy mini :
System rom 216mb (21.4mb free)
Internal 479mb(447mb free)
Sd card 15.3gb(13.5gb free)

When I try to move my apps to sd card using the default move it moves to sd card(a2sd) and not to sd card .
So how do I do that ? + Is their a way I can move stuff from my system rom to other partitions ?

sdcard, external_sd
a2sd is moving apps to your other partitions. the 16 gig card you got has to be the one where you got to move apps. all apps are stored in your internal memory. the system rom is read only, so you wont be able to move or erase it. its permanent, programmed at the factory. so forget rom. if you formatted your sdcards correctly, then you must be able to delete partitions, or reformat them. i recommend deleting the partition after uninstalling all apps on that partition. remember, you are rooted, so if you have root access apps on that partition, then you first have to undo everything the apps did. eg: if you have chainfire, then you got to remove all plugins(qualcomm, nvidia, powervr if installed) the cf3d plugin with egl if installed, then uninstall cf. connect your mobile via usb cord, or get your sdcard in a memory card reader, connect to pc. use "device manager" in your pc to see all partitions of your hard drives. look for your sdcard drive, and you will see all types of data divided in it, that is, formatted data, raw data, etc. if you see raw data, then you have to format it, and its likely that you will be done there. but i f you see formatted data, then just delete the 8 mb partition, and then its possible that you may succeed. this is dangerous, and your data can sort of "vanish", but it will only be the 8mb data according to me. its also possible that you may not be able to delete the partition after all, as this usually works for hard drives. if so, you may use hp format tool to format your device to NTFS and try again. this also can make your data vanish by what you say. the simplest would be to try and delete the partition from your mini itself. the app which you used to partition must allow you to remove partitions also, so look for it. and if this particular app is in the sdcard(a2sd), then you would better move tit to phone memory first. remember, uninstall ALL apps on the partition, and undo ALL the changes they made to your device before trying this out. this may horribly go wrong, so beware! (i havent tried it yet, so. and someone gifted me an ipod 5g, which i tried to partition, but was unsuccessful.) just hit thanks if you find this helpful!

Link2SD is an application that makes it easy for Android 1.6+ users with root privileges on their phone to move applications to the SD card.
The idea behind is same with apps2sd scripts, linking applications to SD card's second partition but differs in two ways.
One, instead of linking /data/app folder (that means moving all applications), you can select applications that you want to move.
Two, it's an application which means has a user interface. You can manage your applications with few clicks.
It also provides native apps2sd features on Android 2.2 and higher. It can move any non-protected user apps to SD card (force move), with batch moving capability.
That feature uses Android's standard SD-card installation feature and does not require a second partition. It can break some apps if they are not meant to be moved to the SD card (Such as Widgets).
Features:
- Create and remove link for apk, dex and lib files of the applications you select
- Automatically link newly installed apps (optional)
- Move any user apps to SD even though the app does not support moving to SD (a.k.a. "force move", for Android 2.2 and higher)
- Shows the apps that support moving to SD with native apps2sd (for Android 2.2 and higher)
- Set the default install location of the apps; auto, internal, or external (for Android 2.2 and higher)
- Batch link, unlink, reinstall, uninstall, "move to SD", "move to phone" functions (multi-select mode)
- Uninstall system applications (bloatware removal)
- Freeze and un-freeze system and users applications
- Convert system apps into user apps
- Convert user apps into system apps
- Integrate "Updated" system apps into system (ROM)
- Clear data and cache of the application
- Clear all apps cache at once (1-tap cache cleaner without being root)
- List applications, show detailed size information and link status
- Sort and filter applications
- Search applications by name
- Display available space information of internal storage, SD card and SD card 2nd partition
What you need:
- root permission.
- a second partition on your SD card.
You should have two partitions on SD card and both should be primary.
The first FAT partition is your standard SD card storage. The second partition is used for application files and can be ext2, ext3, ext4 or FAT32.
Some phones lack the ext2, ext3 or ext4 file system support and you may get mount errors like "no such device", "invalid argument". These phones need ext2.ko or ext3.ko modules and even some additional modules to be able to mount. Using FAT32 on the second partition will eleminate such problems, because FAT32 is supported on all phones.
Link2SD does not create the second partition, you need to create it yourself. You can use any partition manager such as Minitool, Paragon, Easeus etc. for this.
How it works:
Link2SD mounts the second partition of your SD card and makes OS mounts it at boot time.
When you press "Create Link" button Link2SD moves apk file, dalvik-cache (.dex) file and lib files (.so) to SD card's 2nd partition and creates symbolic links in original directories.
Note: On Android 1.6 and 2.1, shortcut and the widget of the app should be re-added to homescreen if you move the apk file.
You can remove the links and put application files back to phone. Just click on "Remove Link" button.
Some points
- System applications should not be linked to SD card. Link2SD does not allow these applications to be linked.
- When you connect your phone to PC as mass storage, Android unmounts the first FAT partition but the second partition remains mounted. Therefore linked applications are not affected and can be run without problems.
- Link2SD does not move application's private data files; it moves apk, dex (dalvik-cache) and lib files.
