Hello all,
I am trying to install a browser content filter on my Nexus 7 but have failed to find a decent option. I have tried Mobicip but it was a buggy piece of junk and didn't even filter anything! I am investigating CloudOn Safe Browser but it has gotten mixed reviews on the Play Store. Has anyone used this or any other filtering app on their Nexus 7s? I am interested on hearing what content filter app you guys use. Thanks!
Anyone?
Do u mean an add blocker. I don't know if one for android exists if so, but ad away blocks in app ads (root) and might be possible to add a source to block web adds or whatever want.

maybe opera mobile ? it can filter i.e. ads by specifying a hosts file without root

OK, cool. I'll check out opera. Didn't know it could add block.

If this is for home use, you can create an account on OpenDNS for free, set your router to use OpenDNS servers and filter it at that level...but that would filter your whole home.

I want a content filter that filters inappropriate stuff on the Internet. I don't want to use OpenDNS because I don't want to filter the whole house.

Try this. Has a free and paid version. Looks like it does content filtering as well as some other nice things (antivirus, anti theft, etc).
Check out "Dr.Web Anti-virus"

You could set the dns servers on the tab to opendns
Theres an app called set dns that looks good for this

Here is another free one.
Check out "Safe Browser -The Web Filter"

I also saw K9 (used the PC version and it was good)
There are a bunch of 4 to 5 star free web content filters in the play store.

It is possible, but why would you do such a thing?
You are already connected to the internet using wifi? What does the proxy accomplish for you?

Well my school blocks apps and some websites so the proxy would bypass it

It depends how they block it. A vpn would be better for what you are trying to do. If your urls are in cleartext and they use a commercial filter that uses pattern matching, it wont work.

Its a bit beyond the scope of this forum, but you can usually set it up right from your router if it is modern or high end.
Otherwise you will need a server. windows and linux can do this. You are are probably looking to build an ipsec vpn. Just google it. It can be tricky. On the milestone side, you need a rom that supports a tunneling kernel module (older ROMs mostly). This is usually called tun0.

ive been trying to get it to work for hours, setting up a private vpn on windows 7, looking for free vpn services, this is rather difficult
Hi
Just set up my work pop email all OK but can't find a print button to send to wireless printer!?!?!
Am I missing something or is this not something I can do?
I use an app called PrinterShare that does a nice job.

You'll wanna use something like "print share" app. I fill out real estate contracts on my tablet sometimes and it let's me print not only to any printer on the current WiFi network but also to any printer that has the client software running on it. Well worth the few bucks IMO.

Epson and Brother (maybe others) have free apps if you have one of those brands.

Does anyone know if I could send email to a pdf printer (to generate a pdf file). I want this as I can use pdf annotator to make additional notes to my emails.
This is probably the ONLY thing I've NEVER done with an Android tablet [yet].
My SIII has support for Printing, but it's unclear if Samsung did something or pre-installed some app to enable this... It would be nice if the OS just did this natively, I'm surprised you have to install an app, but that sounds simple enough... Damn, maybe I should be making printer apps instead of security apps, eh?
Hey guys just sharing something I use when playing games on my nexus.
Some games (most Gameloft game) do a license check at the start. If you do not have data you cannot play. Simply find an app that has the option to disable app permissions.
Find the game you'd like to play offline and look at the permissions and find billing service or verification check. Disable them. You can try disabling more if you feel confident, but if something is not working, just go back and fix the permission you changed.
Good luck and I hope this helps some people.

Is there an app you can recommend?

I use romtool box pro by jrummy (great swiss army knife app)
You'll the option in auto start manager.
Or just search permission denied in the play store.

i think luckypatcher is another one but its kind of illegal if you use it for the wrong reasons...
Haha yeah I thought the same thing.
Oh and how did you guys go? Did it work?

Failed for Gamevil' games, e.g. soccer superstar, fishing superstars etc... any other solution??

Also there is a app called "app shield".it used to remove permission from app (no root required)by editing its manifest.
It was available on play store but it has been removed now you can find it on net and sideload.
But its my experience that simply removing licence permission doesn't works.
I just did some playing around and found out that for this to work you have to at least run this game once with data connected.
I also blocked all permissions for wild blood and it still runs fine. I don't know about other games though.

I'll DL them soon and have a look see.

8 year old is getting Nexxy 7 for Christmas. Need to put some restrictions in place to prevent his precious eyes seeing things he shouldn't ; )
Does anyone know of any decent apps\methods to restrict web browsing?
I think I have everything else covered - with the help of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997986
Suppose if it comes to it I can just freeze the browser with tit backup.
Thanks,
Andy.

If you are looking for a free solution opendns might be an option for you... You set the dns servers either in the device or router
Opendns then filters traffic based on your ip... Might be worth a look
Steve
Thanks for reply.
Have thought about this.. How do you go about changing DNS servers on Android though? (It would probably be 4.2)
Setting the DNS on the router I could do - but that would filter everything in the house wouldn't it?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Not something I thought about. The lol a quick Google search gives a few reply... There is a set dns application in the play store.
Thought about doing it on the router... Connecting to any other network would result in unfiltered access so not ideal.... There are other proxy services out there... Might be worth looking in play store for a solution?

I need a app I can use to bypass my schools block while in apps, the for project app did that but it doesn't seem to work on either the tab 2 10.1 or on CyanogenMod. Anyone know of a good one? Would be greatly appreciated, I can't even use my apps to listen to music.

Best one that works is free in the play store called DroidVPN. You will only get 100MB free per day or you can pay $4.99 for one month unlimited. It has worked anywhere I have been blocked. It bypasses firewalls with filtering software. You will need to go to droidvpn.com and create a free account.
EDIT: Just noticed they have a free 1GB per day now.
