How to start from "zero"? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm kinda newbie at this...
I have an Xperia X8 e15a with manufacturing date 11W11 @ stock kernel, running with GDX v026.
but lately I've noticed that my phone is too slow... even when I get incoming calls, its hard to slide the bar and answer them, so I want to know how can I speed up my phone. I'm thinking of changing the ROM to PrimeHD or other ROM that is faster.
I also think of the possibility of changing to a custom kernel but I'm afraid of bricking it because I remember this phone was from X company and I entered a code on internet and now it works for Y company, so I don't know if thats a real SIM unlock (bootloader unlocking says the phone must be sim unlocked). Oh... and I wonder if I could make a swap partition... I don't really know how to do it, I've just made them on my PC so I'm not sure if I can do it on my phone.
I feel like my phone is messy... I've seen 2 kinds of recovery tools and I just wanna have one (CWM and xRecovery). Does full wipe delete them? I would like to go back to the very begginig (without unrooting lol) and then change everything from the start :S.
Thanks.
PD: long story short:
What ROM is fast?
how can I make a swap partition?
can I unlock the bootloader to have a custom kernel? (having in mind that I introduced a code online to "unlock" my SIM)

1st check with s1too is you have sim lock certificate(if yes, you can unlock your bl)
2 you can try yourself there is no perfect rom for everbody
You need a partition on your sd for use swap

I just unlocked my phone...
Well I know there's no perfect ROM for everybody, but I'm just asking for some recomendations on fast ROMs... :B
is PrimeHD fast? is any other ROM faster than GDX?
And about the swap partition... is there any requirements? I remember I wanted to do it back then but I don't remember why I didn't xD
thanks

If you've already unlocked bl, switch kernels. That would help a lot.

Unlocked bootloader ? Flash Alfs kernel for cm7 and then flash the rom GingerZaraki..
buttery smooth.

I'm running aAa kernel and PrimeHD and it's very well for now
I will try that combination too, thanks
pd: would a swap partition actually help? is it recomendable?

for smooth rom u just need custom kernel

IMO you don't need swap at all for GB.
Still if you want to, use it with a class 6 or 10 sdcard

Need help installing Recovery on Stock kernel
Hello All,
I was using CyanogenMod7 @ FXP kernel and had reverted back to Stock Kernel + Rom. Now I just want to try Custom ROMS over STOCK Kernel but couldn't find a way to install CWM on Stock Kernel for my W8 Device.
I want to use FDE 4+, but that too requires CWM to be installed over Stock Kernel, and I seriously don't know how to do this.
Someone please provide me a link/tutorial/guide to do the same.

Maybe you should give GDX another try, now that you have unlocked your bootloader. I used to use GDX with stock kernel, but like 14days ago I unlocked my bootloader and flashed ALFS kernel for GDX and now the ROM is like it never was before, super smooth and fast.

Which rom you are using to unlock bootloader
It only works with stock rom
that's false information you have given. It will also work with custom ROM 2.2 2.3 as well -at least as far as unlocking by using flashtool 0.5.3 is concerned.
They want you to stick with stock ROM 2.1 because there's less risk of screwing things up. There are various persons who have unlocked their bootloader using custom ROM such as gingerdx and gingerexperia.
There are never any official words that come out and say "don't use custom ROM" but if you look at the code where they patch things you only see that they need a stock kernel and rooted system to work with, nothing more than that!

[Q] Unlocking bootloader and custom kernels

If I unlock bootloader, and then flash some custom kernel, will i lose all data I have, so it would be like I've done factory reset? Or everything will be the same (just different kernel) ?
Thnak you.
Kernels are building to rom.You can make backup with titanium backup

hi..if you flash with some kernel you dont lose data in SD CARD..you keep wallpapers, ringtones, music etc..all you put in sd stays..even if you make a wipe/factory reset in recovery ,data still remain..just different kernel and new rom.
,
you lose nothing
You won't loose Your data, but there is a chance, that Your phone won't boot up and it will stuck at bootanimation. Remember, that stock ROM works only on stock kernel (if I'm wrong - correct me). Other ROMs may work on several types of kernels, but remeber to check it first
I think you didn't understand me, or I wasn't so specific... I will give you an example...
Now i have ginger dx v022, some modules and tweaks installed on it, and I changed few things to fix notification bar and wifi (eduroam)... and if I flash alfs kernel, for ginger dx, can i just restore system backup with xrecovery or cwm, or will i have to 'install' ginger dx v 022, but everything (apps, modules, tweaks etc.) will disapear?

Nothing will be changed just the kernel. And for gdx flash Alfs kernel.
Edit: you don't need full wipe when you flash a kernel.

You decide mate. But I recommend custom kernel cuz it has the latest and built-in recovery, better gaming performance and makes your device faster. +now the best roms (except gdx) are working only on custom kernels.

[Q] Can bootloader be unlocked with GDX v025?

I read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436957
but i don't have the stock ROM, and was wondering if i can unlock the bootloader on GDX v025. I have a W8 with 11W20 and i plan on installing MiniCM9. Also, i read this:

What does he mean about flashing it to Gingerbread ROMs? I'd appreciate the help.
And is getting the stock ROM as simple as downloading it and then flashing it with CWM? and will i need to update it to the latest basebands or is there one already updates that's available?
Thanks

It's is highly advisable to be on stock ROM. Just flash it via PCC/SEUS. Why this is required , I don't know. But always people recommend unlocking on stock ROM. I too would therefore recommend the same. Get back to stock ROM
Don't risk it by unlocking on GDx v025
What he means that the kernel is meant for ICS ROMS only and is NOT meant for GB or stock ROMS
Another thing
So...
1) Flash Stock Rom using SEUS (will this be the one with the latest baseband and will my phone still be rooted?)
2) Unlock Bootloader while on Stock Rom (as stated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436957)
3) Flash ICS kernel while on Stock Rom (as stated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24304432)
4) Flash MiniCM9 (as stated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575094)
Am i right?
Also, is it necessary to install all to Google Apps which nAa has provided a link to?
And where does the currently rooted state of my phone lie in all of this?
Thanks

Not sure about SEUS , but if you use PCC , your phone gets unrooted.
I guess both ways, you have to root again. But that's not a cumbersome task. Just use superoneclick and then place xrecovery files in /system/bin
Just make sure that after flashing the kernel , you flash the ROM directly after it. If you reboot your phone after flashing the kernel , you will encounter a soft brick.
It is not necessary , but recommended. I would suggest that you flash Gapps (Google Apps) , and then manually remove the applications you do not want by using apps like "Root Uninstaller" from the Play Store.
I did not understand your last question.
I am 99.999% sure of what all I told you is correct. However , since I have a locked bootloader , I might have missed somewhere (I'm sure I have not though)
I unlocked my 11w18 with GDX , no problems

11W33 vs unlocking bootloader

Hey!!
I'm new on this forum. So I have rooted X8 (E15i) with 11W33 and I have GingerDX, but its slowly. I want to unlock bootloader for greater performance, but I read that bootloader unlock can permanently damage the phone. I search for safe roads to unlock phone, or better ROM for stock kernel. This phone Is my first with Android, so please understand me.
Dont try to unlock you wll brick ur phone. only below 11w29 its safe, above its playing with your luck:fingers-crossed:.
just try some stock kernel roms and find what suit you. i think dx is very good just update it or delete some unwanted apps that slow it down
if you want to check this support stock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1237930
if you want to stay with dx you can speed it up by overclock it with this module that u can find it in his thread
(GingerDX Overclock Module (x8oc.ko v004) ) but dont set very high frequences.
thats not true
check this forum : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506502
u can now unlock the bootloader above11w29+.
It is still 50-50% chance for 11w29-11w34 and above that through you're phone after trying it, only if you're very lucky you can have it work on 11w35+..

[Q] Is it safe to unlock bootloader from a custom Rom?

Hi, I am a NooB and I'm really sorry if this is the wrong section.
I recently upgraded from Eclair to GingerXperia Revolution v1 and I must say I quite like this ROM.
It was very fast when clean installed it has slowed down after a while, but still I would keep this Rom but there are issues with tethering and wifi hotspots which are crucial to me.It probably is the best rom for stock kernel, but maybe it's time for me to change my kernel and try some of the better roms. No need to post step by step manual as how to do it as I found it on xda already (thanks good people fom here)
Ok
My specs:
Xperia x8
E15i shakira
Band xxx015
11w01 (i know how cool is that lol)
GingerXperia Revolution Rom (installed via rooting/xrecovery)
26.2.9. Kernel (im noob so I dont know if this is stock kernel or custom, please explain)
*Now is it safe to attempt to unlock bootloader from those specs? or do I need to do it from Eclair 2.1 (which would be extra hassle)
*Or is it even worth it? I want to put on miniCM7 so for that I'll need nAa kernel I think.
*Will my current rom run when I change to kernel to nAa?
*Is there a way to speed up my x8? Like I heard that you can partition your sd card and allocate some as internal memory,is that true? If yez wouldnt that help greatly?
Thank you everyone for your time.
Do it from eclair. It's safer. And performance-wise, you will see a change in performance using a custom kernel.
After changing kernels and rom, let's talk tweaks. I'm not one for swapping though, but it does seem to boost performance from all i've read.
