Lengthy app uninstall time - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Note is absolutely stock, never been rooted, but had an over the air update to LQ2. I’m using a Lexar Class 10 32Mb sd card.
Since the update I have found that uninstalling an app takes several minutes to complete, although installing them is fine. Also, in Settings > Storage I get Calculating… but it doesn’t give the result. However, without the sd card all is normal, including an almost instant uninstall. I’ve tried a different sd card with the same result.
I’ve copied all my USB Storage files to the PC and would like to reformat it and copy them back, but am worried that a reformat might be affected by the Emmc bug.
Or if anyone can come up with another solution……..

You are wanting for format your Class 10 32Gb EXTERNAL SD Card?
If so then you can just connect to Windows with a USB Drive reader or connect via the SD slot in your PC and perform a format of the card.. It does not involve using the phone..

No, it's the 11.07Gb internal partion that I was going to format, as I think it might be corrupted. But before doing so I want to be sure that there's no possibility of it being affected by the Emmc bug.

Ok in this case my suggested steps would be as usual;
- Backup your data
- Flash GB ROM via PC Odin
- Do your Wipes / Formats
- Update to / Reflash the Stock ICS you're using now
- Copy your data back over..
However, be careful with copying app data etc as this may also be corrupted

[Q] SOLVED: Connecting with USB shows only internal memorycard...

HI!
I have this problem that when I turn on the file sharing, the computer shows only internal memory card and not the external. Because the phone itself recognizes the external card I have tried to unmount and mount several times without any improvement. I am currently using the latest CM7 nightly, but the problem seemes to have started after I changed the card from 4gb to 16 gb. Any ideas?
EDIT: Erasing sd card from the phones menu helped to solve the problem.
Go Setting>Storage and remount your sd card and try???
I've done that several times....no help... android system accesses the card without problems...music, pics etc.
Did you physically remove your card and reinsert it, or just software remount?
Have you tried the card directly in your computer?
Have a look in windows device manager and see if it reports any problems. (right
click my computer and select manage)
I have tried it all and everything is ok with the sd card itself (I copied recent nightly from the computer on the sd card) also recovery recognizes is... there are also no problems in device manager...
Try to put on debugging mode. And try it with debugging mode on.
If the debugging mode is on try to take it off.
Regards Kali
I tried that also and nothing changed.... I have a feeling that it is somehow attached to me using mybackup pro... I restored application apk and data from another phone to this one and It seems that usually the application data should go to internal memory card. In this case it is on external card... so i believe that somehow the programs are still using the card when connected and do not allow phone to share it out... It's just a guess though...
EDIT: so I think the solution is to wipe everything and start all over again
So I fresh installed Rom and wiped everything and the problem still exist... still can see files with file managers in phone and when connected to computer, autorun shows only internal card...
Edit: I tried now 2gb sized sdcard and it works perfectly... the problem is with 16gb card.
Weird. Did you try another USB-port?
I tried different USB-s now and still same I found out that when I connect the phone, under my computer appears two removable disks.... if I turn on the usb connection, only one transforms to usable removable disk (internal) and the other one asks to insert the removable disk. I used the same sd card on my HTC desire with CM nightlies and it worked perfectly... could it be CM-s bug?
Sorry to ask (maby the obvious)
On Your phone.. using your filemanager (Root explorer astro or what-ever..)
Browse to sdcard
Do you have a folder called _externalSD?
On this phone, for some reason the external SD is not mounted under./ but as i said under ./sdcard/ (i.e its mounted under the internal SD card..)
Just a thought
Where the different cards are mounted doesn't make any difference. And as he said, it works with other cards (2GB and 4GB).
CyanogenMOD mounts internal card as /mnt/emmc, and external card as /mnt/sdcard by default.
When turning on USB storage, both cards should be unmounted and shared over USB.
Hi, I had the same problem with mine, and as you said in one of your previous posts, I had to do a format through the phone and as soon as I did that I was good to go.
I did use the same memory card in my old hero so this might have something to do with it... I'm not sure.
By formatting do you mean from the menu Erase SD card? On the desire I actually had the formatting request from the computer, but there was another problem (some of the rom's files were on the sdcards ext or something and I had no access to the card from the USB).... kind of a similar problem if I think back now but after changing to CM, the problem disappeared.
I forgot to mention I am running completely stock rom and unrooted (for the time being) and there is just an option under sd card & phone storage setting to format external sd card
After erasing the sd card from the phone, the computer recognized it i'm currently copying stuff back and i'm pretty sure it does not affect the recognition
I faced the same problem. I had Swapper2 on my NC, and after I uninstalled it (and cleared the data of Swapper2, just in case) everything went to normal back again.
^ a solution.

SD Card - what's going on?

My SD card somehow had 2 partitions, /sdcard, and /sdcard_ext.. If I plugged in my phone to my PC or took out my microSD, the only one I was able to see is the ext, and everything (pictures, apps, etc), were stored on /sdcard
So I formatted my microSD, now there's just 1 partition but, when I move apps, it doesn't show that it's taking up any more space, so where are they being moved to? How do I fix them to move to the SD?

Your SD card doesn't have two partitions. "SDCard" is the phones internal storage, while "SDCard-ext" is the micro-SD card. Are you sure when you took out the micro-SD card "ext" was showing? I'm willing to bet you have that part backwards.
EDIT: Okay great, formatted SD, got it working now.
I'm having another problem, I can't get internal storage to appear when I plug it in & choose usb mass storage, it keeps going to sd card. I've installed the drivers and everything, and am using moto's own cord (I know it doesn't work sometimes unless you do), how do I fix this?

How long have you waited? An internal storage with a lot of items can take a while to site up, particularly on win 7 machines, and can be made worse by your anti virus program if it is set scan removable devices. Since you just formatted the sdcard it probably got scanned quickly whereas the internal storage may be taking longer to get scanned....
You might also try rebooting with a battery pull if it doesn't register after 10 minutes and see if that helps.

If you have "USB debugging " on it will not show your internal card.

Untrue. I have USB Debugging on and I have no problem seeing either the internal storage or external storage.
I turned of USB debuggging, still only showing up SD card... So all my pictures, video, etc. is being stored on my internal rather than my SD card? How do I change this? I set in the camera apps to save to SD card rather than internal, but it's still saving to "sdcard" which is internal.. Even if that worked, all the apps that save stuff to SD would actually be saving it to internal..
How do I fix this???
I've ran into the same issue with Windows 7 X64, sometimes one of the drives will just not get recognized. Even after uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. But a quick reboot of the PC seems to clear it up. Weird ...

This is highly pc dependent. I run w7 x64 and haven't had issues since I was stock. I wish we/motorola could figure out why.

Bizarre storage after SBF

Hey all, thanks for taking the time to look.
I recently re-flashed the stock software using RSD Lite to my Bionic to pass down to a friend. It processed everything fine but once it was complete I took the phone off the USB and now it will not recognize an SD card or download anything to internal storage either. Has anyone experienced this?
I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and do another flash of the software or not, or if it's something I can do without having to reset the whole phone for them again.
Thanks in advance!

I ran into this problem as well when I got my Bionic a few months ago, and RSDed from GB to JB. The phone didn't recognize either the internal storage or the micro SD card. After several reboots, the phone eventually recognized that internal storage existed, and gave me the option to format it; I also was able to press the issue more quickly by installing ES file explorer and attempting to navigate the file system, which brought up the option to format. The stock Motorola file manager did not produce the desired effect.
For the microSD card, I eventually had to (after backing up its contents) delete the partition, resulting in an unformatted card; I booted the phone and manually mounted it (settings--> storage, mount SD card), which then produced a prompt to format the card. An annoying solution, but it did work with two different microSD cards. Even though they worked fine in Windows and in an MP3 player, the phone would only recognize them after deleting the partition and reformatting in the phone.
I hope this is reproducible in your phone, and solves the problem.

[Q] Cannot find internal sdcard. :/

-SOLVED BY USING ODIN, AND FLASHING A STOCK ROM-
Samsung GT-S5830
So i installed some custom GB rom a long time ago on my friends phone.
Now he gave it back to me because nothing was working anymore.
The problem is when i try to open the file manager in the phone it says there is no internal sdcard, furthermore in the settings at partition settings it shows me:
/system 183mb/ 206mb
/data 65mb/178 mb
/cache 4mb/ 25mb
/sdcard (FAT) 0.00B / 0.00B
/ext-sdcard (EXT) unavailable (not 1 in the phone)
As you can see, the phone acts like it has no internal storage at all wich make it impossible to put anything on the phone.
I have tried using ODIN to flash a factory default rom, but my computer does not recoqnize the device when i put it in download mode. so that does not work.
I however installed the lastest TWRP, to try making my own partitions in there but that also did not work.
after that i downloaded cm11, put it on a external sd card and flashed the rom.
this all worked fine, but still NO INTERNAL SDCARD.
I am guessing that my friend has been screwing with some files or whatever.
Anyone got any tips?

Why your sdcard have FAT format instead of FAT32?
Try to backup it using a PC and then format it in FAT32, but forget ext partitions for the moment

Sir, it is impossible to format an INTERNAL sd card just simply by connecting it to a pc. You are talking about external sd cards here. (that's just part of the memory the phone internal has, there is no physical sd card here).
Anyway, i fixed the problem by flashing stock rom in odin wich has reformarted, and partitioned, it correctly.

Unlock the micro sd card

There is no physical switch. I've tried many application software in windows and linux but yet still not working. I think the last time I can modify the mircro sd card content is where I make deletion and copying on the phone mode. After I formatted the phone to, the micro sd card is no longer content-editable. I've tried format but not working. Before I format the phone, its OS is lolipop and I upgraded to nougat. Lost the ability to copy file after upgrading. Downgrading back still not working

What phone are you using, what's the model?
Were you rooted on Lollipop?
If so did you reroot after upgrading to Nougat?
Are you on a custom ROM or have a custom recovery?
What's the file system currently on the MicroSD card?
What file manager application are you using that is not allowing you to copy/edit files on the Micro SD card?
Are sure nothing can write to the Micro SD card, have you tried loading a Terminal app to get things command line, or another file manager application?
Last thing I can think of, is can you take the Micro SD card out and put it into a computer and see if it will format?
Could be randomly the SD card just died when you were upgrading? Usually when my cards go, it's around when I'm doing an OS load... For whatever reason. I've killed 3 Micro SD cards in the last 7 years.

I use samsung galaxy y s5360. I did rooted my device by upgrading to lolipop. I delete all partition when I downgrading back to lolipop from nougat. I think the system is in the phone itself. Any file manager I try they say success but after I double checked the files gone, I'm on custom ROM. I have taken the micro sd out and format it in windows env or linux env with higher permission. If the microsd card when upgrading then there's nothing I can do?

Do you have a custom recovery like TWRP? Are you able to boot into the custom recovery and use the file manager in there to see if it can read and write. That's outside of the OS and if it can write to the Micro SD then that means the phone is good hardware wise. If not, try formating inside of the recovery then try file manager. Again o ly if you have a custom recovery will this work.
If you're able to write to the Micro SD card in recovery, then maybe the issue is with the custom ROM? Have you tried going back to the factory firmware and see if the SD card works? That's probably where I would go to start first, since downgrading you're still having problems.
If you've pulled it out and put it in a computer, you can format and write files to it... That's a good sign that it can be written to, at least it means the Micro SD card is function.

Sorry I've tried tested on Clockworkmode recovery v5.0.2.8 but still not working. It return success but still have the previous content. I'm not sure whether this means the micro sd card is encrypted . I've tested in on PC but not work at all.

My apologies I thought it was successful on the PC.
If you try it in a computer and you can not do anything to the cars, then more than likely there is something wrong with the card. At this point I would try another Micro SD.
If it was encrypted you would not be able to see any files on it in recovery. Plus if you are in your recovery (Clockworkmode) and not able to format/partition the Micro SD in there, problems.
Because with the encryption the phones do, you can still delete partitions and repartition and format the Micro SD. Would lose all of your files of course, but would make the card usable again. Trust me I've done that a few times, encrypted then the phone would crash... And the card was locked until repartitioned and formated.

Sounds like it from everything you tried. Wish I had better news. But I have found when you can not repartition the card, especially on a PC, it's done for. Whatever the reason. That's why I I ly deal with Samsung or Kingston branded cards. Those are the ones I've had the longest and haven't failed, being used on multiple devices over the years.
