Lack of apps/games in Play Store - Nexus 7 General

Hi guys,
Anyone notice that 99% of apps are "incompatible" with the Nexus 7 from within the Play Store.
I couldn't even get Instagram to work from the Play Store, had to take the apk from my SGS2.
Could there be something blocking access to certain apps? Is it because I rooted the device? (I find both options to be unlikely, but who knows..)

The only game I noticed absent was Plants Vs Zombies.
Everything else I wanted was there, so I would say it's 99% compatible, 1% missing.

No amazon mobile, that's terrible.

its down to the individual app developer to make it compatible, not google

it works fine if you email the .apk file from another device like your phone

I have not had this problem and actually have instagram installed following root and unlock. Something is up with your tablet.

If you change your DPI you will notice that you can see some more apps, or lose more apps.

DPI is set to 170.
Again, the apps work fine after installing an APK, but it just seems strange that many apps in the Play Store are "incompatible with your version".

Derp, this is your problem. Valid DPIs: 120, 160, 240, 320. ANYTHING ELSE will be filtered if the app developer has put specific DPI criteria on their app. Period.
This is your own doing.
Beyond that, since the Nexus 7 has no primary camera, apps which require the Camera permission will be filtered. This part annoys me, as the front camera is good enough to use for such things but the permission isn't there, so the market filters it.

all of my games are compatible. i even added a few Tegra specific ones.
apps are all available too, the only exception is some are not optimized for the larger screen.
so its 100% for me so far and i have 4 pages worth of apps.

Shouldn't 213 be listed

also, this is the first official JB device... many apps have not been adjusted to allow for that yet.

He said the risk of doing, not how to do it. ie changing the dpi and the market issues that brings with it

There's a simple app in store that changes the DPI for you and also has the feature to fix the market issues.

Amazon Mobile downloads directly if you first install the Amazon app store and use that.
I got the app store from Amazon's web site when I went there to search for Amazon Mobile.
Definitely recommended. Most of my shopping is on Amazon...

Does anyone else tweak their dpi settings?

I consider this to be the best change I've made to my phone, dropping the dpi setting in build.prop from 240 to 200. You can fit so much more on screen, menus look awesome and you can always tweak the font size in individual apps if it's too small.
It always shocks me how huge everything looks after re-flashing, it's the first thing I change every time.
So, does anyone else use a non standard dpi setting? If not I urge you to try it!
I love having my N1 set at 200 as well. I also have a Viewsonic GTablet that I have dropped to 140. I use LCD Density Changer to change the resolution as it is quick and it stays set through reboots (requires root).

I guess some apps don't work if you mess around with the density. I liked 220 but the app 'RadioRip' stopped working, so I have to settle with 230 as the app still works with that setting.
I'd love to use my phone at 180 but the stock keyboard goes too small. I can't live without gingerbread keyboard

android market 3.1.3

enjoy
http://www.mediafire.com/?dbbwcoajt8qweo5
changelog:
Adds +1 For Apps And Games, Pin Number For Purchases, And More…
there’s a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately). There’s also a brand-new Market icon to spruce things up.
Oh, and did we mention you can now use a custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have – and really, it makes a lot of sense.
Root access is not required, but you’ll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.

"Paid" apps are supposed to verify you own them before they work right? I have seen before where if I remove my gmail account from my tablet then some apps break and won't run properly. With that said, I paid for sketchbook pro and can't re-download it to my Xoom because 3.2.2 changed the screen density. I'm looking for a way to get the app again without going through "unkown" sources. The screen density change has caused the market to drop it entirely off the list when browsing from my Xoom and from the web I can't push it back to the Xoom.
I did download a "copy" but when I run it it says cracked by so and so and I really don't trust cracked software so I uninstalled it.
Are you able to download it to your XOOM from the online browser market? If you have a VZW XOOM, it should still work. If not, you may have to download it to your phone and pull the APK and sideload it on your XOOM (your phone would have to be rooted to do that.)
Also, for future reference, Titanium Backup is your friend.

Trying to push it to the Xoom = your device is incompatible.
Autodesk has for some reason locked this app into only working on a certain screen density. It will not download to my Nexus One either.
And your tip is well noted, but who would have thought sending their Xoom off to get upgraded to 4G would come back a different screen density... and on top of that who knew it would make so many apps incompatible LOL.
Worst comes to worst... I can just wait. Autodesk will fix the issue on their own sooner or later but I thought I'd ask around.
I have a question to those with SB Pro too. How are your drawings on the Xoom? I can draw well with pencil and paper but the touch response on the xoom kills me. I can hardly get a line that's not all squiggly. This is making me consider a lenovo with a digitiser for my next tab.

I wonder why in the world they would change the screen density. Is the change obvious? Does it look better, or worse?
Another thing you can try, if you're XOOM is rooted, is to change the screen density manually (or use the screen density changer app in the market) to something that the app will recognize, then change it back to stock after downloading the app and see if it works.

you need to change the DPI in the build.prop to 240
Flash gapps and change dpi to 160 for full tablet market (most compatable) or dpi 240 for full regular market.

CM9 Tablet Mode and normal phone apps on Play Store

Hey guys,
Maybe there is anyone out there who can help me with my little problem.
Some days ago, I changed from the SGS2 to the SGNOTE, I flashed CM9 because its beautiful to use and is was like BOOOM when I tried to change my density to 190 and tablet mode was running flawlessly. Its amazing, very beautiful and comfortable to use. There is only one problem. The Play Store won't show me normal apps anymore. Only tablet ones. That's not a big problem but its weiring. So I have to access Play Store via browser to see what's new.
Does anyone know, how to change the device information for play store, to get the normal phone apps again?
Thanks in advance!

You would have to have a modded market. Or try ParanoidAndroid. That way you can have more control over lcd density. And it is based on cm9.

No reason to change device name. Changing the build.prop should change your density. If it doesn't, you may not be rooted properly or something didn't work right. What are you using to change it?
Stock CM9 would use the regular play store.
You can search the forums (probably Themes/Apps) and find a Vending.apk, which is the modded market.

I've tried on both CM9 and Paranoid Android under 213 DPI, and neither let me purchase Photoshop Touch.
I imagine app compatibility is device-specific and has little to do with non-standard DPI.

The problem with tablet play store is solved.
My steps were as following:
1. Flash a new update from cm9 or any from you want to use. Standard density should be set (240).
2. Clear Market data in settings and open it.
3. If you are able to choose an app and download it, close play store and make a backup (app + data) via TB.
4. Change your density to your favourite one and reboot.
5. Market should be still phone market. If not, restore from TB but it should not be necessary.
Best regards.
Deleting data is the best case strp also for apps causing trouble

Sorry guys I have to correct my last post.
This method won't work. Only the first minutes when ROM is fresh. After that its not possible to get normal market back.
But now I have a working solution.
LCD Density Changer Pro
You can change the density at first. Then you have an option to fix market compatibility issues. And it really works.
What I have done:
1) Because we have no chance to download or buy the app in market because its not shown, we have to get the app over our friend Google. (But don't point with the finger at me now, go on reading)
2) Since you have downloaded and installed the app, change your density and restart. After that open LCD Density Changer Pro again and go to Fix Market. There you can choose with which density market should run, or better which density market should think that its running.
3) A special modded market for your density will be created and you can download it. Additional you can download another app which will make this mod permanent by applying it every startup.
4) Finished. You have now the normal phone store with all the benefits. And concerning step 1 you can buy the app afterwards to thank the developer for this app (like I have done).
You can't do anything wrong, every step is explained inside the app.
Best regards

No problem man, fun is half of the life...
As long as cm9 didn't support tablet mode (at this time I was using my old sgs2) tablet mode was interesting and paranoid was the first from supporting this. The idea was good but the screen too small xD when I got my note I flashed cm9 at first because I used it most of the time on the sgs2... and at this time tablet mode was also working more than fine. Maybe cm9 contains not as much tweaks as paranoid but its more stable and that's the truth...
But hey, go on with your work. There are many people following you and believe in your hard work.. so thumbs up!
