restore stock ics apps - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is it possible to restore stock apps in galaxy ote n7000 without resettind it...??

Yes you need root and a tool like root explorer. Just take apks out of rom and place in system apps.
Check that they have same permissions as other apps, rw and such and click them to install. Not sure if they install themselves with a reboot.

Open Root Explorer.
Scroll Down to System/app
You will see all applications there. Just Copy and paste to your external SD Card. When you want to restore just paste them to System/app using root explorer and set permissions as rw-r-r and reboot

How you set the permissions? Post a ss if you can.

Ok, download rom you want to restore from, usually a zip file, unzip it. Then with root explorer navigate to tar. Md5 file and open it, you might need to rename to tar file only, then within that search for a fokder that contains the apk you want, extract them, or copy them outside tar file then to your system app location etc etc

Just keep file pressed when selecting, then menu opsbup and scroll in menu to option permissions. Then select those according to permissions set inother files.
All this in root explorer. Not sure if a fix permissions from cwm recovery fixes this. Never tested it.

You might need to mount system/apps as read write r/w. That is a button on top left of screen when you are in that folder, just set it back when done

I'll teach you how to fish instead of giving it to you.
There is a website called google.com type your query there, together with e.g android, or xda or both, and youre sure to find your answers to almost any question.
Might need to query with different phrases or order of words, sometimes in steps.
Thats how I figured out last time. Sorry I wasnt able to answer stepwise step for step. maybe you make a tutorial with print screens, for future users that have same question
Damn I suck at explaining

Bootanimation.zip

I have a question.. if I find a good boot animation that I would like to put on my phone can I just Co to system/media and replace the zip with the one I want with no worries? And its not a cwm zip its a zip file from the atrix. Thanks for anyone's help.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
yes. make sure and back up the current animation
I wouldn't bother backing it up it is totally lame anyway, lol! just kidding. You are right on with what you are doing. Backing it up is always a good idea. Save early, save often, save to multiple locations.
How do you rename or replace the bootanimation.zip when it keeps coming up as a read only file and can't be renamed?

Root Explorer works great for this.

And make sure you mount it as R/W up in the upper corner and not R/O.

[Q] Stock Music App?

So I uninstalled the stock music app and I was wondering how to install it back on to the device?
I got the com.htc.music.apk from system/app/ but I have no idea on how to install it back onto the device?
Ive tried plain old install then adb and both had no success... Can anyone help me and my noobness at this?
Download root explorer, I am assuming you have root. Next locate what folder the file is in. Make sure you have read write privileges by clicking the button art the top of the program. Long press the apk file, select copy or cut, etc. Then find the system folder, go in to it, find apps, go in to it, and place your file here. That should work.

HTCMusic.apk [Stock HTC Vivid]
Here you go bud,
Simply use "File Manager" or another file system app from the market to install the apk files to /system/app. Then reboot.
Be sure to have root and set permissions to match all other items in /system/apps. Also be sure to erase what ever current HTCMusic.apk you currently have in the folder.
Good luck!

How can I move Themed Phone.apk

I have recently began theming, my intent issue with the Phone.apk is that I can't go into Root Explorer change R/W to R/O for System Apps with it and modify it or the Phone.apk gives me. Force Close errors.

No, I do my editing from my phone, just tiny editing.
I tried going through Root Explorer and doing this by copying themed Phone.apk over original. .apk
By the way, thank you Hoskopiko for being VERY active

Make sure the permissions are the same as the original.
If it still force closes, it may be a problem with the actual MODS made.

I strictly only work with Froyo, I'm waiting for the GB or ICS update. For now I'm trying to theme things for people, this is the only issue I've had since though.

download sdk before you use this http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

[Q] Tethering on HTC Vivid (Rooted, stock rom)

I tried many apps and none of them seems to work. Right now I have Titanium Backup installed, but I can't find any app that seems to be a Tethering blocker. What would be some possible names for that app? Also is there any other stealth Wifi app out there that I can try? Thanks.
If you search before you post... you'd find a thread with the fix...

I tried freezing restartapp and resetnotify, but it still didn't work. if anyone knows which app I need to freeze please help. There are too many to try one at a time.

I downloaded that zip file in that thread and got the ext.jar file, but I can't seem to delete the ext.jar file in the /system/framework directory. My phone is rooted, and I have super user permission. Is there any way to trick it to allow me to delete it? Thanks.

get a root file browser and mount system r/w then it should let you. i personally use es file explorer and enable root settings

I think I screwed up..

I have canned a lot of apk's recently.
Now I notice when my wifi scans it won't show any networks/SSID's. But if I manually enter one, it will connect.
Any ideas? It may not be related to the apk's I don't know
An apk file is an installation file - it installs an app. Once the app is installed you can delete the apk. So I doubt one has anything to do with the other.

Isn't the apk and the program one in the same? If you remove an apk from browsing with root explorer it will remove the program off your phone.

Download UrDroid from the development section. Open the zip and goto /system/app and copy them to your SDcard into a folder (so you don't clutter the root of your storage)
Reboot into safe strap
Click on mount
Select /system
Back out
Goto advanced
Select file manager
navigate to the folder on your SDCard
Copy them into your /system/app folder
When your done fix permissions and reboot
If your nice, pm me and I will make you a flashable zip

Not for it to be right. But safe strap is uninstallable.
if you're already rooted then you can run safestrap

If that were the case, I'd have very few apps on my phone. I always delete the apk file (as soon as I back it up to my normal backup locations, which are on devices other than the phone).
An apk is actually a zip file with a different extension. (Rename it .zip and open it in Winzip - you'll see.) It's an installer. Once the app has been installed you no longer need the installer.
If you've deleted apk files and had your apps disappear, you're doing something in addition to removing the apk files. (I normally put apk files on the root of my external SD card, so I don't need a rooted program to delete them.)

I've added/deleted/modified files in /system/app with just root file explorer, back before safestrap existed for the N3 - you do not need safestrap to fiddle with /system/app - you can do it with root file explorer (remember to set the permissions correctly - 644 iirc).
