Install TenderloinParts.apk on OaT's 07/29 Rom - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I browse to where I downloaded the file from ES Explorer and click on the app, but I get that install failed? Any help? I like to use a stylus frequently, and with this latest ROM it is missing the input very frequently. I read that this app installed a setting or a switcher app to select between touch and stylus/

Likely you got install failed because it's a system app. That's my guess. Try this instead. If you have a way of using titanium back up on a device where tenderloinparts works, use Ti to back up the app. Take the back up files from that device and move it to your Oats one. From there, drop it into your Ti backup folder. Then have Ti restore the tenderloinparts.

System APK
Well, I didn't exactly follow your advice, but once you pointed out that it was likely a System App, I installed with Root Explorer by copying to \system\app and setting rights to -rw-r-r then reboot and now it works!

Nook Color Tools

I'm having trouble installing this...I'm using root manager, and placing the apk into the system/apps folder. When I click on it it says installation blocked. And the reason I'm installing, or trying to install nook color tools, is so that I can change keyboards. So I'm stuck in a maddening circle.
Anyone want to show me the light? I don't know why I'm having so many issues...rooting and installing other apks went flawlessly.

Mine is in data/app, not system. Maybe try putting it there....?
Did you try installing it from your SD, without putting it in the internal memory first?
Also, after putting it in data/app or system/app, you could try simply rebooting without installing via Package Installer, and see if it shows up in your app drawer.

That's the thread - should be in the first post.
Yes, it works on 1.0 too.
If you have problems installing other APK's. Find the "Allow Non-Market Apps" Checkbox in NookColor Tools (it's in the app drawer).
Uncheck the box, recheck the box. NC might need a reboot but it worked for me. I tried installing with Astro and Appinstaller and neither would let me until I did this little trick.
I just put the APK's in the Root of the SDcard btw.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. I was pulling my hair out to try to install non-market apps... Unchecking and checking it again worked.
(When I plug in my nook, I don't see a "system/apps" or "data/apps" folder to put apks.)
That worked.
Thank you so much for all of your help with that. I was so frustrated. Now I just have to get the other issues worked out. Searching the forum for those.
HELP!!! I'm going crazy! I've put the nookcolor tools 0.2apk on my sdcard, then using root explorer am i suppoused to copy, or move the apk from my sdcard to system/apps, or to data/apps? So far i've tried both & nothing, what am i doing wrong? I'm rooted with autonooter & the market works fine, i just need to get nookcolor tools. copy it to system/apps. Rebooting means hold power button down till a prompt asking if you would like to power down the device comes up. Hit yes. Device is now off. Hold power button again till it starts up. Release power button. It's booting up again....hence the term rebooting.

Cannot reinstall several apps; Help needed

After rooting, I backed up all apps and bloatware with Titanium Backup Pro, and then uninstalled the bloatware. I want to revert back to my stock state by reinstalling all bloatware, unrooting, reformatting, and rerooting and then using Psouza4's script method instead.
Obviously, I was unaware that I wasn't going to be able to reinstall several of these apps even though they are backed up.
I've been on this for HOURS. I obtained ALL the .apks of the bloatware from the Droid 3 System Dump that was posted here a while back. I moved all the .apks and .odexs of the corresponding apps into system/apps by using Root Explorer.
1.) When I use Root Explorer to try an install an app (DLNA or Flickr Authenticator, for example), it simply says "Application not Installed." It can install other apps such as Kindle and Books, but it cannot install the same ones that Titanium Backup has a problem installing as well So I tried Droid Explorer.
2.) Droid Explorer: Same thing. It can install most apps but not DLNA, Flickr Authenticator, and a handful of others. Crashes whenever I try to. "Droid Explorer has stopped working." So I learned how to use ADB.
3.) ADB: Whenever I try to install the app by "adb install DLNA.apk", it shows the progress and then gives me the error of [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT].
Like the others ADB can install anything else except for the "problem child" list. Here's the list of the ones I cannot find a way to install without an error or a crash --
DLNA 0709.69
DLNASystemService 1.0
GoToMeeting 1.0
Guided Tours 2.3.4
Help Center 2.3.4
IM 3.0.4.6
IM Presence 2.3.4
News 2.3.4
Picasa Authenticator 2.3.4
Social Messaging 2.3.4
Social Messaging Service 2.3.4
Social Networking 2.3.4
Social Sharing 2.3.4
Social Status 2.3.4
Twitter Authenticator 2.3.4
Please help...and thank you in advance.
Forgot to mention; I've tried the method where you long-press the .apk and .odex using Root Explorer and then changing the permissions and then rebooting, but even after a reboot the app does not appear in my drawer.
Solved. Took me forever to figure it out. Thinking I should write a guide on how to do this for all the unfortunate souls who uninstalled apps instead of freezing or using Psouza4's script.

Would you mind sharing your solution? I have the same issue and am leary of trying Psouza's app because my carrier is Bell not Verizon (he's warned be this could cause a boot loop!). So I only tried replacing system apps that I deleted with no success.
Use psouza4 safe bloat remover in the Dev section, it will also recover your missing apps, make backups, symlink them correctly and more.

I just realized his ONE-CLICK method is what allows system/app to be restored if you have the System Dump available. People kept telling me "yea use his script, it'll put everything back to normal." No, it won't. His script can rename all apps on the list from .apk to .bak, but the script itself will NOT restore anything. His ONE-CLICK method, however, will, assuming you have all the system files available.

1.) Download Root Explorer
2.) You need to get the .apk's and their corresponding .odex's into system/app. If they are on your computer, connect your phone via USB and drag them into a folder on your SD card (I made one called System Dump).
3.) Use Root Explorer to browse to the folder you put all the .apk's and .odex's in, and press the menu button and click "Multi-Select", and select all the apk's and odex's you want to install, then click "Move" or "Copy"
4.) Browse back into the system/app folder and click "Paste." (If it doesn't let you, make sure you have "r/w" clicked at the top right or you won't have permission to make alterations to that folder)
5.) Now find the .apk you want to install that you just pasted. For example, DLNA.apk. Click the file, and press "Install." It should give you a list of the permissions that the app needs. Hit ok/install, and it should say "App was not installed" or "Installation unsuccessful."
6.) Now, press and hold the .apk file you just tried to install. A menu will pop up. Click on "Permissions." Make sure ONLY the following boxes are checked - Owner: Read and Write, Group: Read, Others: Read. Everything else is to remain unchecked. Press "OK"
7.) Now, press and hold the .apk file again, but this time scroll down to "Change Owner." Change both Owner and Group to "0 - root" (it's the top-most option). Click "OK."
8.) Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the apk's corresponding .odex file.
9.) Change back to "r/o" at the top right of Root Explorer and exit.
10.) Reboot your phone.
11.) Once booted, your system file should be installed properly.

Additionally, the program has several menu items and links in the text that you can use to download these files. But again, only for Verizon users because we have different apps.

you can install your APK files (like the Play Store) by going to the Amazon Market first and downloading a File Explorer App such as ES File Explorer or any type of File Manager app, locating the APK through that program, and then clicking on it to install

[Q] AT&T Smart Wi-Fi reappear after reboot

Hello,
I have stock jelly bean 4.1.1 installed with root. I tried to uninstall the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi app in the app setting, but it reappears after every reboot. Can't uninstall this in Titanium backup or other root uninstallers since this app is not listed there. Anyone know how to get rid of this permanently?
Thanks!

Root Explorer not working!

I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 to Android 4.1.1 (Official) and encountered a problem with my lock screen and power button not working, so after I did my research, I found that I needed to add 'ON' to the 'keystr' file in the IMEI folder or some other folder which obviously needed root explorer. I installed it and Found it giving me a blank black screen. I tried re-installing android 4.1.1 again but still it is of no use.
I attached a screenshot of the screen when I open the app. I don't seem to understand the problem, with the root/flash or the app.
Hope someone replies fast!
To go to that folder you will need root access..
Application doesn't open. Check the screenshot.

Hello. You might want to try using ES File explorer instead. It comes with Root explorer and much user friendly. To give root explorer access all you need to do is:
1. Open ES file explorer. press menu button. find "Tools" menu and press to expand.
2. Scroll down to find "Root Explorer" and press to activate, then it will prompt you to give access. grant it and voila.

Hey! Thanks for replying soon. I followed what you said and still it gives me the same blank black screen even after giving it root access. Do you think there ia a problem in the way I flashed/rooted my phone?
Is this only happening with root files or other files too? Can you view the contents of internal storage using any of the file managers?

first check if you have root access using root checker.. then enable USB debugging and connect to pc and use shell and su command (should ask for superuser on phpne) and then
echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr
sync
It's working in my phone.
