How's u guys battery life on CM 7.2? On my Ace, it seems that the battery is discharging much faster than the stock rom.
What would you suggest? I read something about battery life kernels, but not sure what to do.
Thanks,
It seems it may be a false battery charge indication. I saw a couple other threads about this. i tried a calibration app, but it didnt work. I even charged to 100% and reset in clockwork. As soon as i unplug, it went down to 92%, then 10 min later, 80%. This is just on standby!
Any ideas?
Battery calibration is a myth! The battery_stats.bin file only has info for the battery use screen.
Not sure about it now, but cm7.2 used to have battery drain problems.
What rom are you you using?

Battery calibration is not a myth, the myth is saying that helps you battery life, what it really does is give you a more accurate reading of the battery charge. Your battery will have the same life.
Your battery life on any CM will drain faster than on a stock rom, maybe a bit better, but not much of a difference.
You need to charge your phone to 100 %, check in settings, about phone, state (i have my rom in spanish, so i don't know if it will say "state" it's just a guess) and the first option you will see says "Battery State" and it should say "Charged" or something that tells you that it's done charging.
I mean, when u charge your phone, although u can see that your battery is full, you should wait until in the lockscreen says "charged" instead of "charging" or something like that.
Hope it helps!
I am in the process of calibrating right now. I charged to 100% and now im draining completelto 0%. Then recharging back to 100% with no breaks. I got these instructions from another thread. Ive got every radio on (gps wifi bluetooth) and the torch. Been that way for over 2 hours and it says 16% right now. Ill let u all know what happens. Thanks again!
Oh im on the last cooper version that says stable. I had trouble with thr touchscreen not working right on nightly for some reason. Any known issues with this one?
Cyanogenmod have battery problems, especially if you are using an unofficial version. If this is your case, you can try use firekernel, otherwise use the official one, some say it have the best battery life.

Be careful, force the phone to discharge fast can decrease the battery life. I think the best to do is use it normally during the day till the battery finish and look if is there some application using lots of cpu or if the deep sleep is working right.
Watch for the torch app, the app itself says that u should keep it on 20 min maximum i think.
I didnt tried nightly, sorry!
I did try stable and everything worked perfect i think so it should be fine

i hear ya. i dont think i burned out the flash led. i left the phone on all night (not the torch) and it finally died. Stayed on 8% for at least an hour! so now i have to charge it back to 100% with no breaks.

Any thoughts?
how long is it that you have your phone?? battery could be damage maybe? :S
if u want to stick with cm, you can flash Apocalypse rom, based on cm 7.2, it has very good battery life. Using a based stock rom u could try the sg s2 version 9 (based on stock rom) with very good battery life too and very fast

Been having it a couple years. I have two phones and two batteries. And it doesnt act this way with the stock ace rom. Wierd. I am curious about the apacolypse rom. Will check that out. I will need to backup my current setup first tho.
Should i just backup with clockwork or use titanium? I have alot of time invested in cm 7.2 stable. I hate to lose it.
Also can i just copy the backup folder to my pc without damaging it?
Thanks for the help!

What do you mean?
I have not rooted my ace yet and had been reading tons of documents on the pros and cons of rooting and most of them if not all of them were saying that CM aids longer batter life. Here you seem to contradict that claim.
Can you please explain?
Thanks.

CyanogenMod basically means = fast (besides nice looking haha) and it also has different options to save battery (i don't remember an example of one of them), but being fast costs you battery life. For example, Apocalypse Final version with blackhawk kernel with antutu benchmark gave me a 2200 score (without oc), with firekernel (the one that brings the rom) it gave me a a number much lower (i think it was 1900). But using sgs2 v9, the one im using right now, it gives me a 1900 score and i can say it is fast enough and battery lasts longer that using any cm version.
i know bechmarks are not exactly, it's just to explain my point of view.
With cm u can have good battery life too but in a stock based rom battery will always (or 80 % of the cases) be better.

Yes, it's usually what most people do, leave the original copy of the nandroid backup on your sd and make a copy of it and save it in your pc. Then if everything went well after flashing the rom you can just erase the copy of your pc
i just did a backup with both. the CW backup is much larger. Is this because it backed up the whole rom? Like a clone of the phone?

Hello all!
Here's my problem. For the past week I have noticed that the battery life's very short. And by short, I mean less than 10 hours fully charged. I got no new applications since this problem appeared, and everything seemed to be working perfectly. Then suddenly I woke up one day and noticed that the phone is turned off. Any ideas on what could be the problem?
I'm running Android 2.3.3 I9000XXJVK.

Thanks in advance!

Hope this work if not then left 2.3.3 abd come to 2.3.5 JVS

But I've always had background data and sync enabled and it always worked perfectly fine. Why would this suddenly be the reason for battery drain? Also, at night I always turn off WiFi and data network.

Since disabling background data didn't help very much with battery drain(it extended battery life by 1-2 hours), I decided to try another ROM. Now, it's unplugged for 11 hours and it's still at 90%. So far, I'm completely satisfied with F1 Galaxy S II V6 ROM.
That was the awesome rom i dnt know what special ingrediant he use in his rom...i test F1 innovation and i got 3200 quadrant score and long battery life...but the major problem is touchwiz 3.

Using V7 and after 8 hours on doing almost nothing it ate all the juice from my battery
So much bad info here...
Notice how 'Android OS' is eating a disproportionately large amount of your battery? This is called the 'Android OS' bug, which appeared shortly after the release (and use) of JVK—which just so happens to be what you're running. Just for the record, your display should almost always be the highest consumer of battery. If it isn't, you have problems... just like you do now.
Reboot your phone to get rid of it. Battery pull if that doesn't help. It inevitably will show up again, however; it's merely a matter of time. If you'd like to permanently solve this issue, simply upgrade to 2.3.4 (JVP) or newer.
Please, all of you... just look at your battery stats. It's a built-in, handy feature—so use it.
EDIT: As it appears, this is an old thread. Please don't bump old threads...
Androids OS uses <= 5% on semaphore on JVT
Hello Ali Khalid, Nice work ..being a medico and cooking up a rom is tough job ..but ur ROM is awesome..but brother i have one problem..its not with your ROM but it is with all the custom ROMs i flashed..i have gotta big problem with Battery Life..i dont know why this happens..i always follow the proper procedure...still my battery drains like from 100 to straight 91 in 5 minutes..but after flashing stock rom ( currently on JVT ) itall back to normal life. 2.3.3 has a very high frequency of Android OS and Android System battery drain. The best solution is to flash 2.3.4 or 2.2.1.
2.3.4 has a much lower frequency of the battery drain bug, while 2.2.1 has no battery drain bug.
That's strange, my battery is inaccurate. When it arrives ate 17% it dies, when I start charging again it starts at 1%, then when arrive at 80% it appears at 100%
Something is really wrong, I dunno why.
I already tried wiping the battery stats (on recovery), but still the same thing.
Any help? Any app to fix it?
Thanks.

Hi guys!!
My phone is seriously screwed up. I'll get to the story.
A couple of nights ago, I couldn't copy files to sd card both from the phone and the computer. So I took it out and tried to format it in Windows but failed. So then I tried to format in linux and succeeded :good:
Then I tried to copy files to it, eventhough it seemed like files were copied, when I tried to read it again after ejecting the card, it was empty No files were copied!!
My SD card had failed and so I removed the SD card and let the phone be. ROM was CK MIUI 2.4.6. I noticed that battery started to drain faster through the night; around 40% for 8 hours
I tried using various other ROMs, tried the battery friendly CM9 too - both elols and rcset's. Still no avail. :crying: :crying:
I think its a hardware error. Can I claim my warranty??

Lead time given was 1 week as it had to be sent to some central location but they guy called me up within 3 days and asked me to come and collect my phone ..
So they treat the Mi 400 owners well as it was the costliest phone in there arsenal some time back .

I'm on Bumblebee and I'm getting nice backup, can you try it once (ya I know it still has ICV) but gives nice backup and each and every feature works (excl. FM, HDMI) or sharp Modded (.35) Fix1 which also gives nice backup, but the condition is that you need to stay on any of these 2 ROMs for few days and not flash any other ROMs immediately, I've seen that constantly flashing ROMs also reduces battery backup no matter on which ROM you are on (means you don't get good battery backup even if you are on battery friendly ROM), if you want you can try it as a last solution...

I have this issue since a few days and I don't know how to solve it. My battery drains out after 10 min while using wifi and the phone will shut down of course. Leaving it for about an hours time, some power will be regained and I can continue using my device. It all started when I reverted back to stock ICS from cm 10.1. I thought flashing Carburano's ROM might help but apparently not, same problem. I know batterys don't always go nuts but when they do, it's progressive. Any one know what might be wrong?

Use the better battery stats app and check which app running in the background is draining your battery without allowing the device going into sleep....
but if the drain is like what you have described....then it is time to move on to another battery....
just a word.....Kernel is something (other things being Baseband) which takes care of the battery performance....so maybe you can try changing this and check which one suits you well.
CHECK IN THE FORUM TO FIND INFO ABOUT APPS LIKE GREENIFY...
Hope this helps you

Thinking it like this: the phone probably can drain a fully charged battery in 10 minutes if you turn on every major component, like vibration, flash, display to 100%, gps, wifi, 3G and what else... But having just wifi on and getting a phone shutdown in 10 min seems excessive. This would suggest your battery is not charging properly. This can result from end-of-lifetime battery only charging to some 10-25% of original capacity, broken charger, battery self-discharge and probably some other reasons I could not think of right now.
The best solution, most likely, is to replace your battery (like SREEPRAJAY above already suggested), but if you like to troubleshoot you could try to charge your phone via USB to reduce the charging current (Li-ion batteries show a lower voltage during charging with lower charge current until 100% is reached). This way you may be able to charge to higher capacity. Also, it may hint that some kernel might work better for you, but I'm not sure about this, since I don't remember what part of Android (SW, charger HW or what) handles the charging logic, i.e. what triggers the charging actually to stop.
Thanks...I'll try the suggestions

Since i switched to Maclaw's CM 11 about a month ago and i had no trouble with the phone untill i updated to version 3/8 and the versions after that..the battery gets drained fast even when the phone is always underclocked to 200 MHz which never made an issue for me in terms of being a bit slow.
It used to drop just 1% every 15 min with heavy data use..a lot of the time it even lasted more than that! Now drops 1% every 5 min or less with the same heavy data use!!!
What went wrong?
It's just CM 11. Remember, it's still under heavy development, so it's not 100% yet. Don't worry, they'll get it fixed.

If you still have CM installed, maybe a simple "top -m 10" in an adb shell will give a clue to what the power drain is. (I'm new to adb and forget how easy it is can be to have a linux shell on my phone. :silly

What went wrong?

well i found out that my solution didn't really work. but i now have a new solution which seems to work, i got this from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2683451 by factorexh
1. tick "set on boot" at governor and i/o of cpu, then set governor to abbysplug and i/o to sio
I set it like this and it seems to work but not 100% sure since it's the first day
So i installed Carbon and left it for 2 days and the battery was better but then i flashed CM back and the problem was still there. So i flashed the Stock rom back, rooted the phone then installed CM...at first everything seems back to normal but later that day the battery little started draining faster!
I thought that maybe coz i disabled/froze some system and built in apps that it what caused the problem but now i made sure i didnt disable any app, only force stop some non system appsm j and found the battery still draining!m
I have only 4 things running in my "Running apps" section:
1- Settings
2- Greenify
3- Setcpu (underclocked to 200)
4- Smart keyboard trial
THAT'S ALL!!

i don't know about that maybe your batt is demaged but still
CM11 the 20th 3rd 14th version mentioned a change about battery life.. they update the zip very often just check if the zip has another date in the name then flash it...
and try to change what i said above.. about stock i don't know how to help but i have my battery now for longer than half a day on and it's on 64 with display on mid-high
How fast is the battery charging(with the original charger). If it charges from empty to full very fast, then it's probably a bad battery. Both mine and my wife's battery has died on us after just a year of use, so it seems like the sIII mini's batteries is not lasting much more than 400 cycles.

It's the original battery, i havent changed it yet. I've just started using this phone like 2 or 3 months ago!
I'll see that governor trick, it may help. I'll update to the latest CM and see if there's any difference and keep you posted.

It charges from 20% to full in about 3 hours or a bit more. Is that bad? Original battery and charger.

Yeah, i've noticed. It's kinda a pain to keep downloading and flashing on a daily basis though.
Do you have Wifi/mobile data on during those hours?
I dont have Skype nor Viber, Whatsapp, Facebook messenger and all those messenger apps.
Mind if i asked you if you disabled any apps? System or downloaded?
And what's your current LCD density? Mine is 200, i tried to go for 180 but the phone started acting a bit weird.
