I'm thinking of getting this phone as my personal phone, I've spent a couple of hours asking LG some questions but the person I talked to didn't seem to know very much in detail about the phone. They did give me a manual however and on it it said that it takes a 64 GB SD card, the guy I talked to said it was micro SDHC, if I'm not mistaken micro SDHC stops at 32 GB and SDXC continues. I was told the maximum speed is class 4 but i wanted to ask you guys can this phone take a class 10 SDXC?. I'm also hoping there might be good development for the phone too, it should be able to handle most things you throw at it right? I'd love to have root for my Cerberus app and maybe unlock the bootloader.
While i talked to the guy i found out that they do something they call VOC (voice of customer) in the support chat, you have to ask for it but they take feedback from you about the phone. Maybe if there is enough of us giving them tips and telling them what we want they might make it happen.

SDXC is electrically compatible to SDHC, but they use another partion/storage-system (exFAT) that a SDHC device not knows,
a simple format to FAT32 does the trick
if you have windows you have to use a tool like Fat32format, since windows cannot format this size to fat32
One thing you might want to know is that you can't install apps or move app data to your external micro sd with this phone. So, a 64gb card (or any other card for that matter) will only let you store music, videos, pics, etc., but not apps, at least while there is no root access.
will the 4X be able to read exFat? i'd like to use a 64GB card without formatting it just yet and i don't like the 4GB limit on fat32 i might carry an iso on the sd card or a large movie.
So what's the fastest speed all you guys have with optimus 4x on their sd card? can it read at class 10?
EDIT: Stupid me, i just realised there was a Q & A section. Is there a way for me to move the thread myself? or ask a Mod to do it for me?

in theory it should work since it handles any microsdhc card up to 32gb.it hasn't been tested for any cards over 8gb since none are buyable yet.
And those new 16GB micro sd cards should have been for sale somewhere in June or July.
But of course its August now and still no sign of them...
usually waiting longer is better so the products are perfected more and tested thoroughly.i don't think any of us want a card that goes totally corrupted within the first 6 months of usage
Well the second somebody purchases a 16G7 micro sd card plz do tel how it feels and of course..DOES IT WORK.
We are able to, most likely able to use up to 32gb...so 16 should work like a charm...for me the 8 gig doesn't seem like enough and I don't wanna ever buy another card again for my kaiser and future devices...I got my 2gig micro sd card for $10 on craigslist brand new..and it came with a very sick tool...a micro sd usb adapter..one of the best accessories for the kaiser or any micro sd ppc device. I use it all the time and every comp has a usb slot so its compatable with everything, its great for swapping cabs and documents quick.
l...So anyway plz whoever gets over an 8 gig sdhc card like a 16g plz tell us if it works and how fast it transfers files and all that.

I've been having a great deal of trouble with my cheap Transcend 8gb class 6 card . . . spontaneous unmounts, lots of finicky behavior all around. Having the apps on the SD means the phone crashes, and the app permissions get borked to hell.
I've heard these are not very good cards (you get what you pay for in this case) and are known to have problems with the G1 . . . or the G1 is known to have problems with them. Either way, perhaps some of you can help me:
-Are the Transcends indeed "problem cards?"
-Has anyone had one, gotten fed up with the crashing, replaced it, and is in good working order?
-If that's the case, what are some known good cards I can get to replace it?

they are not problematic, they are just not compatible enough! Every device has issues with every other sd card no matter what. I been buying sd cards and I have had problems with these since the day they were born.
In my opinion, transcend are one of the more compatible sd cards. Funny thing is I use a sandisk on my phone and I always had issues with sandisks before on other devices.
First things first, Transcend are by no means a 'cheap brand'. They actually make some of the more expensive memory cards you can buy, and they are very good. My memory card is a Transcend, an 8GB Class 6 like yours.
The difference is that my one has never failed me. It's actually very fast. Furthermore, Transcend are known for making good memory cards. Maybe you just got unlucky with your one.
I ordered the A-Data class 6 to replace my class 4 sandisk based off raving reviews. I havent read much for negative reviews on the A-Data lineup, even though they are a smaller company
I had a transcend 8gb class 6 card that failed completely (can't even access from a PC). When it failed, and due to my apps to sc and other changes, my phone wouldn't boot without a card. I had to install the 128 mb card once I got home and re-update from scratch. When the transcend card worked, it was fast. I've used other cards of theirs in my cameras for a while now, and they've been very good. But this failure caused a bit of a headache for me. I'm at the point where if I see any problems with my sd card, I'll simply replace it to avoid worse problems. Wouldn't have helped in this case as I saw no signs before hand. If it means much, I'd try another transcend card again.
Sorry, didn't mean to bash Transcend undeservedly. So maybe it's just an issue particular to their cards and the G1?

i went through 2 4gb class 6 adata cards that wouldn't work at all after i partitioned them. phone would bootloop regardless of rom. it worked great if i left all fat32....very strange.
orange that should be a good card. if you have any way to put it into your computer and try to format it, via a usb conector ect. then give that a go. other wise it could be the rom your on, what type of rom are you using or is it stock?
Don't base your purchase decision on the Class classification. Sandisk's Class 2 cards have known to have stellar performances under ATTO.

Cyanogen Mod. Latest (4.2.12.2) but I've had this problem in previous versions. A friend's G1 has experienced similar problems with the same Transcend 8gb card, and I vaguely recall hearing warnings against using that brand w/ the G1, but perhaps I'm mistaken.
For now, I've deleted the EXT and swap partitions from the card and did a wipe so that all apps are running from internal memory. I haven't noticed any unmounts today, but last night the phone was unusable and this same sort of thing has happened before with the same card in both my original G1, and the warranty replacement (the warranty replacement was for an unrelated issue).

Movies (avi, wmv, etc). HD photos from professional photocameras, hi fi music like wav. Download a lot of stuff with torrent client and else. 32 GB really need for me.

I couldn't tell you, because I've bought an 16GB card (class10).
With the price of a 32 GB microSD, I could not fool me.

You are able to mount 32GB card I've just checked it out but the results are horrible - 500 MB of freshly copied music on the card, and now it is showed as "damaged" on the notification bar. I wouldn't recommend it to you.

I think the X8 will also work extrem slow with a sd card of 16 or 32gb
And with 32Gb class10? The read/write speed is biggest?
I believe that is not a question of card's speed, but more of device's ability to comprehend such a huge space. Just like with enormous hard drives in older computers.

Im using 32gb sandisk class 2 memory card in my galaxy s initially when it was 2.1 it was slow. But now after 2.2 update its okay. Only startup and shut down process Will take long time. class doesn't matter on phone it matters only when data is to be transferred from pc to phone . Max transfer speed Will be 2mbps in class 2.

there's a lot of good brand to choose actually, personally i'm using transcend.
what city are you in? in Bandung, you can try BEC. i bought mine from kaskus though, it has almost everything we look for
class.. hmm IMO it's unnecessary to use such a high class card. class 6 (6MB/s) is sufficient enough, because android apps are usually not really big, only 10-12 MB at most so no need for such a large data transfer rate.
Has anyone had good success with the 32Gb card? I dont want to buy one if it's just gonna not work properly.

Chances are, it wouldn't work.
The Xperia X8 currently only supports up to 16GB of memory. If you go higher than that you would experience problems. You might be able to make it work for a few minutes then it might not be able to read the mem card.
Hopefully, in future updates we could use 32GB cards.
I've searched around, no walk-arounds on this yet. If I were you, I'd stick with 16GB. That's a lot of storage!

people say it doesn't matter what size you buy if i'm just going to stick with one rom like cm7.
what i am confused is people also say that an advantage to rooting vs putting it on my sd card is seomthing about APPS downloading.
i'm confused, can i not use apps or download a lot of apps if i use an SD card? if i buy a big sd card (16gb), shouldn't i have a lot of space?

I just did this the other day and had a million questions (that people helped me with), so I can definitely give you an amateur's perspective (although I did a lot of reading here beforehand).
Yes, it seems SanDisk is the card to use, and not too high a class. This is the one I used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B1AR50

I put the CM7 on the card because I want to be able to revert the Nook to the original system without a lot of fuss. And I also didn't want to risk screwing things up. I have never rooted my phones, but when I saw this using the sd card, I was all over it.
It is my understanding if you install to the sd card, it occupies it entirely and you don't have it available for extra storage. I'm sure someone will come around and correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know if you could partition it, but that's over my level. So rooting the device would give you more room on a card for apps and media if you need it. But you can still install tons of apps directly on the NC. I think people who actually install movies would run out of space pretty quick, but other than that, not so much.
I followed verygreen's directions very carefully (and still had questions), and things worked out really great. I think the NC with mods is totally unbeatable. And these people here who do all the work so we can enjoy it are amazing.

Maybe it depends on what ROM you are using but from my experience you should still have room left on the MicroSD afterward for installing apps. I used Racks11479 Phiremod/Honeycomb dualboot image for mine and still have over 4 GB left on my SD card partition using an 8 GB Sandisk MicroSD. The instructions I used are located here:

When you burn an OS to a card, you are actually burning the OS to one partition of many on that physical card.
Typically you'll still have a large partition called 'SDCARD' which acts like an SD card, but is still on the same physical card.
So moving files from 'phone' to 'SDCARD' just changes if they are in the 'apps' parition or the 'SDCARD' partition -- they're still on the same physical device.
The emmc (internal) memory is not accessible when running a ROM from the SDCARD (unless you do something to change that fact).

CM 7 on the uSD makes four partitions. 1st partition is called boot. 2nd and 3rd partition are not accessible. 4th partition is the largest, and is for storage of Apps, music, videos, etcl. On a 16gb card, you have about 13gbs in that 4th partition so it should be plenty for loading up stuff.

many thanks mate. this was actually the answer i was looking for exactly.
So it seems that the Kingmax 64gb microsdxc card doesn't work with the Tab. Hardly unexpected but hey you never know until you try. It just keeps asking me to format it over and over again.
Oh well, it works fine on my gs2
As far as i know, the tab only support 32GB sdcard.
More specifically, the microsdhc spec supports up to 32gb. Usually when they say a device only supports 32gb it's because it uses this spec so it implies this limit. But some newer devices specifiy microsdhc however they can use more than the 32gb limit. So that was my hope here.
Got it, so is a limitation about the sdcard tec, not a limit of tab hardware...
Well maybe both. Who knows. Maybe it's a good excuse for me to start cooking roms and writing kernels.
Back in the day...
Back in the old days, my old HTC XDA Exec, was not compatible with the new fangled technology of SDHC, and was only able to read SD until some enterprizing folks here at XDA created some updated drivers for it.
Remember the form factor is identical, only the file system (I believe, I may be wrong) of the SD/SDHC/SDXC system changes.
Hopefully someone can get the drivers from a device that does support SDXC to work with the Tabs SDHC reader.
I think your hardware actually has to support the new format, not just the software. My guess is that your old HTC actually supported SDHC at the hardware level, just not at the software level yet. I have a card reader in my desktop as well as one in my laptop that will only read SD, not SDHC, regardless of the size. I am pretty sure SDHC slots will never be able to read SDXC unless the hardware was actually built to support it, but we'll see.

I have been using my tab for over 6 months now and still have not used over 4GB, so the 16GB it has internally was always more than enough. I wonder what all of you are using the space for? Are you loading it with movies & Music or what else?
Any way you can always get the connector to attach a USB storage to your tablet and plugin an extra storage when needed. I mean you can archive your old movies & music to an external USB Drive!

Another idea, and I read through the thread and didn't see this mentioned. Would it matter if the card was broken up into two 32GB partitions?
This just made me think of this, does anyone know a partition type for android that would allow file transfer to SD Card over 4 GB? I've always thought that was a FAT limitation (which it is) but hadn't considered other supported format types that might allow for the bigger transfers but also be recognized by Android.
Now that's a burning question!
Most roms are ext4. Try using that. Downside, your windows boxes won't support these out of box

As for why I use this much, this tab is my car stereo so that means lots of music and movies for long trips. It's easy to eat up a lot of space that way.

Tried it, didn't work because I think Android is expecting it to be FAT32 when it's inserted. I wonder if there is a ROM out that would allow for EXT4 SD cards instead of having to use FAT32? Anyone heard of anything like that?

My understanding of this might not be correct but I think fat32 shouldn't be an issue. The 64gb card I got is fat32 and my gs2 seems to use it fine.

Sorry, I kinda hijacked your thread. I was just thinking if you created two 32 GB partitions to see if it was a capacity limitation. I'm not using a custom rom right now, I was just wondering if there was a rom that would allow you to use ext4 on an as card for large file transfer. 64 GB would do me little good without alleviating the limitations of fat 32.

I think TAB support maximum SD card is 32G... or u can try different format, it might be work....
Well after much wrestling with Odin I managed to flash Roderick's ef17 kernel and now the 64gb card works, Sky Wizard be praised!!
I don't know if it was the kernel or if my Tab was messed up. And video seems choppy, I'm not sure if it's a slow card or something else yet.
