I had this idea recently and was just wondering if anyone has come across something like this or if it would be possible to make one.
Basically I love the sleep/wake magnet thing but I like the idea of a pouch or sleeve more than a folio case, I just want something to protect my tablet when I take it out of the house. If a magnet could somehow be build into the fabric where the sensor is, I think it would be great for things like checking on notifications without fully removing it from the pouch.
So, anyone find this interesting or have any suggestions?

Can we not use the magnetic tape thing on the correct location inside of a sleeve? Just curious.

That's the sort of thing I was thinking of, I'm wondering what the best sleeve is to try it with, as it would need to be quite snug to make sure there was contact.

I ordered a sleeve, I made a thread for it. I'll try it out and make a review and let you know.

Hi,
Were you able to add a magnet to the sleeve? which sleeve did you buy?
Thank you
I wouldn't recommend using magnetic tape to make your own sleep/wake, it can be really touch and go. Use a really small N42 magnet (can get on Amazon or at the store). Depending on the sleeve, you could make a tiny cut and re-sew the area from the inside.

Found this on Amazon so if you have a case you like that isn't a smart case this seems to be a decent alternative.

Thanks for the link! That's rather expensive considering my case cost less than the magnet Is there any way that I could just buy some magnet strips and super glue them to the case?

ROFLMAO $10 for that??? That's extortion! I think I'm just going to go to my local craft store and pick a few up there, surely they will be a fraction of the cost.

That's not a case, just a magnet.
Does anyone know of nay magnet tape that works? I'm in the UK so anything on eBay/Amazon UK would be ideal.
Currently using magnet tape from an arts and craft store. Costed 1.99 for a yard lol.

Does it work? I know some people are having trouble with certain kinds of magnets like the flexible plastic refridgerator type magnets.
Do you have an IO Nexus 7 or a production model?
Yea it is kinda expensive lol I just came across it looking at TPU cases and I've never seen anyone sell that
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Production model. The case needed to be snug otherwise just layer it to fit. I out 3 strips on top of each other to make a friends case work. It has to be flush with the screens sensor.

Do you know if the polarity is a or b?
I have a roll of 1/2" wide adhesive magnetic tape and tried cutting a piece to see if it would work, no dice. must not be strong enough. I'd be concerned with it scratching the screen anyway, but thought I'd give it a try.
Have a look on the Play Store for "CaseSensor for Tablets", turn any case into a smart one using the light sensor.
I made my folio case a smart case by using a small magnet from a desktop toy i had (has little sticks with magnets on the ends and little metal balls for making geometric shapes), used a dremmel and glues it in. Free and works like a charm! I would be happy to sell some magnets for $10 each.. . I'll throw in shipping for free ;P

I was playing around with a magnet to see which side would matter, and it doesn't look like it's polarity specific.
Do cases with magnetic holds affect and functionality of the phone?

Personally, since the s-pen uses a magnetic field to utilize the cool floating feature, I wouldn't want to mess with it using a case with a magnetic closer. I could be wrong though.

I have a the iMagnet car mount and the magnet in the mount affects the stylus. It doesn't respond where the magnet is but works elsewhere on the screen. You should be ok if the magnet is weak and on the side, not behind the device.
Damn, i guess i'll stick with something else. Thanks for the info guys.

No issues with magnets and the EMR technology in my experience. I'd be more worried about the effects on my memory.

That's another thing to think about. It's such a sweet case but I'd rather be safe than sorry. The last thing I need is my phone konking out on me randomly for any reason that's not my own doing.

Actually magnets compromise S Pen functionality, I have two flip covers with magnets and S Pen doesn't work on the display portion just above the magnet.
Tapatalked.
They're also extremely likely to cause problems with the device's compass. Magnet's and compasses really don't mix well.
What about the tetrax xway
With the four magnet config its meant to make it safe
Available from tesco stores for £5 (with a voucher doubled up)
Its the circular one similar to the one on mobilefun. It does fit, but best get them to show you first
Is there a link?
Go in store. Its not on their website

I bought it yesterday - it is wide enough to hold the note 2 but it's at the limit of the holder's maximum width. Not sure I'll keep it as it's maybe a tad too flimsy. I would be a bit afraid that the plastic arm might break and then note would fall.
Thanks for the tip though, joey.

I feel the same way. I just don't trust windshield mounts.
I got an iOttie for mine and have it suctioned in a cubby behind my shifter in my Honda Civic. This mkes it so the holder piece leans on the edge of the opening, giving it support.
It does take the weight (doesnt fall off when driving on the bumpy cornish roads/lanes)
It fits perfectly with about a cm to spare
It might look flimsy but its actually quite tough
If you want something better spend more than a fiver

This is a tenner in my local tesco - how did you get it for a fiver? Coupons?
I didn't mean to be overly critical of it by the way - it looks solid enough. I think I will have my phone mostly in portrait though, so i'd like something at the bottom to stop it slipping down.

No probs, all in good jest.
It was double up tesco vouchers so only cost me a fiver
I've been using the Mountek MT5000-D and it's great.
Works great with both my note 1 and my note 2.
I was using the tetrax x-way before but it just couldn't handle the weight of the note.
it would just keep falling off.

I have a pretty unique situation. We purchased our 4 kids nexus 7's for Christmas along with Poetic Slimline cases in their favorite colors (Black, Red, Pink, Purple). I'm trying to find some cheap neoprene sleeves big enough for the tablets in the cases. I would also like to have a place for the charging cable. In a perfect world I'm hoping to find them in colors similar to the cases. Thanks for the help.
-Dusty
Does it have to be neoprene? Cuz you'll get a wider range of products if you exclude it out.

And definately a sleeve, not a zip up case?
OK, I have the N7 in a plastic snap-in case. I use the neoprene Blackberry Playbook case that comes with the Playbook. I used to have a Playbook but sold it and forgot to give my buyer the neoprene sleeve. Fits like a glove and good quality, too.
I purchased a Travelocity neoprene sleeve for $5. It a little big for a Nexus 7 without a case. There's a zipper pouch on the side that would let you store the charger and cable.

i got that sleeve. comes with a zip up pocket for cables. i can put a pair of headphones, usb cable, otg and flash drives...
only black color.
not sure if it will fit with a case on it... but maybe try to find a store with it in stock and see if it fits.
Well we figured out the girls, now I just need two sleeves for the boys.

Do any of the sleeves or zip cases provide impact protection for the screen? I'm looking for a product that I can use when my Nexus 7 is in a backpack or duffel. I'm think of some sort of rigid insert that would diffuse bumps or pressure from other objects. Nothing too radical or bulky, just something to protect the screen if the Nexus is pressed against something while travelling.
This seems like a pretty common need, but I haven't found anything yet. I have an outstanding Tom Binh sleeve for a notebook, but they don't seem to make anything similar for small tablets.
i just bought this~ It mention its for N7 but its a little bit too tight for my N7

Does anyone know of a place where I can get a dummy plastic model replica of the nexus 7? I need it for fiberglassing a panel with the nexus 7 in it. I see plenty of ipad minis (unfortunately) but no others.
Nope, sorry. But, after 100+views I wonder if you'd be easier making one, given what you're interested in. The measurements are pretty well established and I've seen a number of threads with people designing and building, as I'm sure you have. Good luck, I'll be interested to see the results

I could probably make you one out of wood or plastic.
Why not wrap your Nexus 7 in cellophane wrap, then use aluminum foil, as you would in car audio fiberglassing?

Yeah I have been watching the Amplified series and getting ides from them. I'm just afraid to taping my nexus 7 up and somehow messing it up while making the fiberglass. I think I have two options.
1. Make a crude model out of wood.
2. Buy a busted nexus 7 and tape it up.
I just sucks that there are plenty of ipad mini dummy models but not even one plastic model of a nexus 7.

Or you can wrap your nexus with few layers of aluminum, use some paper/plastic tape to make it stable enough, pull it off and fill it with hot wax.
Let it cool down, remove the aluminum wrap , cut the imprefections and even sand it down to make it smooth.
it should be good enought to have a model for your fiberglass work
