[Q] Disable Softkeys OR Tablet Mode on CM9 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I like my Galaxy Tab P1C!
My current issue is that I don't like the Softkeys!
I have googled quite a few times looking for a guide to disable them, but have turned up empty handed so far...
If its easier to go from Tablet UI to Phone UI (WITHOUT CHANGING THE DPI), and someone knows how its done or can provide the files needed or even teach how its done, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Go to setting/rom control/power menu option and enable navigation bar toggle.then press power button and disable navugation bar.
For ph ui change tablet dpi to 240.on cm9 dpi modder from market works.its quite easy.or els

Thanks for the info, but I already knew how to do that...
As I said, I want the phone UI, WITHOUT changing the DPI...
Appreciate the thought anyway

If you change the dpi to 161 I think you will have the phone UI with nearly the same dpi, but you will have play store incompatiblity.
This is just a suggestion I never used CM, I have aokp installed in my tab.

But why do you want phone ui without changing dpi?

Ill try 161, I generally stick to the standard 160/240/320 for tablet/phone/hi-rez
I also use GMarket v3.4.7 modified for DPI and no-update, so the only issue I can see happening is if an app self-checks the DPI
Why do I want the PhoneUI you ask? Read the OP...

i'm runing cm10 on my 8.9 tab i don't want the tablet UI i want it to be like the nexus 7
can anyone help please?

(req) power button status bar mod cm10

Hi I was wondering if anyone could make a power button status bar mod similar to the one in dark bean jelly theme for cm10. All input is appreciated thanks

Not sure what you mean.
download notification toggle from the play store.....it's free!! I've been using it for two weeks since AOSP 4.2 is out, but not many rom devs are updating for our device. Since AOSP doesn't come with notification toggles I had to improvise....and this app is a pretty good alternative
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
Sounds like OP is referring to a button to turn off screen from the status bar when notifications are open. It's separate from the notification widgets and power toggles that have become common.

If you need a button to turn off the screen, notification toggles and power toggles are both good apps to consider. I use the latter. It also has a toggle to display shutdown menu and reboot options, i.e. reboot device or reboot to recovery (for root users only of course)

[Root][App] GMD AutoHide Soft Keys

I'm developing new app that will allow to hide soft keys without loosing notification bar. it also adds auto hiding navigation bar replacement.

Then you need to reboot device and if you mess up build.prop permissions you will get boot loop. This app will allow to hide/restore navigation bar on the fly and risk free
I have installed the all bit it isn't work. It Makes another bar on the one present net.

Your device is rooted right? Metallijim in Nexus 4 thread confirmed that it works on Xperia Z and added screenshot too. Did you try version 'without.detection' ?
I have stock rom with root.. I have installed the apk and granted superuser permission but it doesn't work
It works for my phone, it would be perfect if the red trigger line turns transparent. Great works.

Tried the app on my ZL. The auto-hiding works and the replacement reacts, but it is rather small, like the status bar. Allowing to change the dpi of the replacement would be appreciated.

The app works great and I like it!! Only some minor issues:
-When you change to full screen the wallpaper sometimes change to the original (known issue).
-When reboot sometimes the notification bar disappear for a minute or less.
-When you hide soft keys or show soft keys the percent battery on the status bar disappear.
Thank you

These are a bit tricky to fix, but I'm researching it. I hope to improve Quick NavBar enough that you won't need turn on/off stock soft keys often. I added Google Now button in latest dev version release.

hide softkeys

Hi android developers, I have my kindle fire hd 7 softkeys hidden using qemu.hw.mainkeys=1. The problem is this gets rid of my app menu icon in the action bar. And lmt launcher's app menu button won't work please help
Update, this is to clarify qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 gets rid of softkeys and gap between keyboard and notification menu but as I said has a glitch with the app menu button not being shone in action bar. How do I force a tablet to show it in action bar or get the app menu button to work on lmt launcher
Wait, are you saying that when you changed that line in the build.prop that you don't have the gap? How is that possible? Send a screenshot please.
As for the menu button, you'll have to lower the density of the device or flash a custom rom.
Go to build.prop and add the code qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 on a new line. Then restart device This is telling the device that you have hard keys. Thus not giving you the gab. The problem is like I said it gets rid of app menu in action bar and lmt launchers app menu sadly didn't work. This is what I'm trying to fix. Own order to mess with build.prop you need to be rooted and have we file explorer installed

Do you have a screenshot to show that you don't have the gap anymore? I'm asking because I tried this method long ago and the gap remained. And yes, I am rooted running a custom rom.
For the menu button, you can lower the density or switch roms to get it back.

Here is the screen shot. As you can see the notification bar is down and there is no gap. As I said before there is still a glitch, there is no way to get into the app menu. Because the lmt launcher app menu button doesn't so you are locked out. That is why I am currently still during the dumb nav bar at the bottom of the screen.
BTW I'm have Kindle Fire HD 7 running version 7.3.1 forked version ICS 4.0.3, Stock amazon os rom with ADW as default launcher, rooted with binary root with restore v31. So with these stats is there a way to fix the app menu problem
Anybody have any ideas

Lowering the density is another setting in the build.prop. I don't remember if its dangerous nor not I think it might make some apps display incorrectly if not set right though.

The rom kinology uses a 200 dpi even though I'm on stock rom will that be safest since kinology is basically amazon is with perks. Will it not boot loop my kindle if I set it to 200
Sent from my KFTT using XDA Premium HD app
Idk about boot loops, I haven't ever messed with the density, I think it will just make or screen malfunction, if it malfunctions too bad you'd have to pull the file over adb then push it back after making necessary changes and chmod the permissions back to how they were.

i think im going to wait till they update KF first aide. there going to have an automatic dpi change. there

Changing DPI settings (almost prefect)

OK to start I am not a fan of the stock dpi of any of my phones (I feel they make everything too big).
Coming from a note 3 I pretty much know which apps to keep at stock dpi so the app doesn't break or look weird and found a few more for the note 4. But this time around a few got me scratching my head.
I changed my android system and system ui DPI to 320 using app settings from xposed
Corrected the apps that need to run at 640
Everything's great except
- recent apps when you press the button, dpi stays small.
Anyone have an idea of what apps I might have missed changing back to stock?

I posted this in a different dpi thread, but for the lockscreen, change keyguard back to 640. You'll need to do a full reboot for it to take effect (app settings killing app doesn't work). I also set it to include widgets in the app settings screen but I'm too lazy to check if that's needed or not.
No idea about recent apps.

Odd - I just double checked the settings I have for com.android.keyguard in App Settings and the only changes I made are:
- DPI: 640
- Checked the 'Apply res to widgets' box
It didn't change on killing app but did work after a full reboot. My lockscreen with fingerprint on looks perfect with lcd_density in build.prop set to 480.
I changed the dpi of the phone to 480 and modified the problem apps back to 640. So far everything looks good except the popup for symbols on the keyboard (the window that pops up when you press and hold a key on the keyboard). Keyboard was set to 640. Anyone know what I need to change to correct this?

checked the apply res to widgets

no problem,
its why i kept it in the past put i got over it after i switched but its easy to switch back when you need it. when your in the text field and the keyboard pops up just pull down your notification bar (which i have programmed as a home swipe up) and click 'choose input method' and switch at will. just make sure you have the keyboards in question active.
any updates on the fix for recent apps? everything looks good on my phone at 420 DPI except the recent apps - not sure which app to reset to 640 dpi

How to change the dpi on this device?

How do you change the dpi on this device?
I've tried the minimum width in developer options, but it does nothing with nav bar, quick icons and the home screen generally.
Even tried with arb but still the same result. It's like having an old iPhone with this home screen. It's way to big...
Anyone have a solution for the this?

Looks like more an issue with the system size itself, notification tray etc which doesn't seem to resize when choosing a different view size in the settings.
Anyone tried changing the dpi with an app that need root access? I mean root the phone and then change the dpi.

I did that and it doesn't change the entire system, it only changes the settings and keyboard, not everything.

In Settings, Display, View mode, you can set the slider to 'Small' rather than Default or Large, and that may do what you want.
Was going to buy a p20 pro, but if the smallest width setting is different to stock, then it is now crossed off my list
Can change, but the home screen, most of the apps, quick launch won't change... In my phone all that changes is keyboard "SwiftKey" and settings.. Nothing else...
In display settings the view mode settings changes the dpi. Use a smaller setting to increase dpi and vise versa.

If you change the view mode you automatically changing the way apps display their content. Larger dpi = smaller content = more things on screen. It's an easy change throught menu.

Is there some way when changing DPI the "notification bar" (on top of the phone) stays intact? Because the Notch is owerlaping the screan. So Notch is in the way.
