I recently replaced a digitizer and amoled screen on the N1. The screen powers up just fine and the touchscreen is responsive when I leave everything out of the metal housing. After I put it in the housing, the amoled screen does not show anything. What should I be looking for? I can only assume the housing is making contact somewhere to cause this. Any suggestions? Thanks.
It was in my pocket and I ran into something. I bought this on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XMD9I2/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
Is this enough, do I need to buy a new screen AND digitizer? or is this digitizer ok?
The digitizer is the actual screen that you touch. The SLCD and/or AMOLED screen is a different screen that lies below the touchscreen. When that is cracked, colors will start to bleed and the screen will eventually turn black.
If the digitizer is cracked, sometimes it will screw up with touch inputs, but other times it will work flawlessly.
You only need to replace the one that is broken.
VZW SCH-i800
Recieved unit with only ability to turn off from screen when power button depressed. Screen and capacitive buttons otherwise non-responsive.
Flashing various ODIN Roms gives me the following:
1. No response on digitizer or capacitive buttons as received.
2. Response throughout digitizer except left 1/2" and bottom 3/4 inch and no capacitive buttons. As Tab is rotated, it seems that screen calibration is not correct.
3. In Recovery, capacitive buttons do not work. (Thank goodness for CWM!)
Has anyone seen this before? Any solutions I can try?
I have unbrickable mod hardware mod that I performed after a bad bootloader flash, so I can try about anything.
So far ICS and stock DJ11 allow most use of digitizer with anything else pretty much gives me no screen control.
Nothing solves capacitive button issue.
TIA!!
I had the same problem 2 weeks ago, but it recovered by itself 24 hours later, however this morning problem again, think I'll need to change the digitizer, some China supplier is selling between USD2 to USD40 only, can't even believe it's true or not. Majority USD10.

I Cracked my screen to the point the bottom half no longer worked. I got a replacement and installed it. My LED light comes on and I can feel the vibration when 'unlocking' but my screen is black/blank. Does this mean I have a faulty LCD screen or do I need to do some type of hard reset?
So my phone cracked up today(rip) while I was doing some gym exercises. The phone fell from like 1.5 metter or so and the screen cracked.
The problem is that screen won't turn on, even when the phone looks like it works. I tried to furce shut down and turn it on and back and recents buttons work, but screen while stay black. What should I do? I will replace the screen but I'm not sure why screen won't show up, maybe something got disconected with the fell? Does anyone has any type of experience with this?

So, your screen is broken, and you need to have it repaired, what is the problem? Some parts still working?
Just get it fixed...

I really don't know why you asked this question, but I always try to be helpful. Since you did drop it, and from such a height (do you like keep your phone in your pocket while doing pull-ups? Mine's always in my bag and I use BT earphones).
Since your screen is cracked, and that impact could've damaged your phone in many ways.
1. You could've damaged your digitizer, which is a screen replacement situation
2. You bent a cable from your screen to something else, and that may be the issue, still would need to replace the screen.
Your buttons working have no relativity with the screen not working, it works with other hardware not interacting with your screen.
Don't go for third-party screen replacements that "fixes your digitizer seperate from the touch", it mostly doesn't work, and it'll be a waste of money, if you bought it from OP Store, just RMA it, or if you bought it from a seller in your country, just order the screen off eBay, and have it fixed. Your shop will most likely replace it with a non original screen, which will be horrible.
Cheers!
I think he is confused about the glass versus the AMOLED panel. A lot of times, you see folks with broken glass, but the screen still works (still displays graphics) and he is wondering why that isn't the case. At least, that is how I'm interpreting the question.
The answer is that the "screen" is composed of layers. The top layer is the glass (which for Super AMOLED also incorporates the touch panel or digitizer) and below that is the AMOLED which actually displays the graphics.
Since the glass is broken, and the AMOLED is not working, it's possible (or even likely) that the AMOLED was also broken in the impact. Yes, it's also possible that a connector has come loose. But from what I'm reading, it's actually common for the AMOLED to break before Gorilla Glass does: http://www.gophermods.com/amoled-vs-lcd-tale-two-screens/
A lot of times when you see folks with glass broken, but everything (touch and graphics) still work, it may be with LCD screens; which are supposedly more durable (more possible for glass to break before the LCD).
