don't know how it works on a Mac, but there is no common usb mass storage currently, i think you mean that the internal sd and external sd
where be mounted as drives ...
you only can access the storages when mounted as MTP
hope this helps
Install "Android File Transfer" ( http://www.android.com/filetransfer/ ) and mount your 4X as MTP.
Thanks!

Hi
Would like to know if, when you try to access your data stored on the external SD via MTP, you can see all of your files ?
(Using Windows)
This MTP thing is a real mess for me, I can never have the full access to my files. With the Razr i I only have 2 folders with some media files when I open the device with Windows explorer... there should be a plenty of folders and I don't know why I don't see them and how I can see them!
Tks
PS: even with the internat storage I don't have full access. for example, if I create a zip file with some file explorer on the phone, it never show on the MTP device!
Give me back UMS !
That's normal, MTP is a very special mode, so you can't modify files or see some files..
But I don't understand why there isn't an usb mass storage when the phone is connect ?

I would love to have the answer
@ this time: no UMS on the Razr i ...
Then use PTP, it maps /sdcard and /external1 to your computer, you can clearly access them via a normal file manager.
PTP is worst ... it's made only for pictures!
There is no USB Massstorage from 4.0 upwards cause google decided to remove this feature....
ptp is made for pictures but it also can be used for normal files but mtp is prefered....
i am on ubuntu and after a nice little tutorial i am mounting my phone via mtp and i can modify and see everything, its mounted as usb would...
havent tried to see the external card because its ext4 formatted and running arch linux so

I know Google decided to remove ums on the stock Android. But it's not on obligation and constructor have all right to put it if they want.
BTW, I saw same screenshot of a razr vd or a razr maxx which has ums!
I'm running Windows and use Total Commander. There is a great plugin "totalanddroid" that gives me access to all my files (SDcard and internal memory). It uses adb and runs with USB connection or Wifi connection. I tried to find some adb explorer that runs without Total Commander, but none of them is really working on my machine. But maybe you'll have a bit more luck (my phone is not yet rooted, sometimes this seems to be a prerequisite).
NICE

Hi All,
I'm newbie to this area and I just flashing my P1000 into CM10.1 with JB 4.2.2. Everything is work fine for me and I love the PDroid Manager function very much too!
The only problem that I encountered now is the USB mass storage function. When i plug in the USB cable into desktop computer, it only shows external SD card drive but internal SD card drive shows nothing whereby lots of data were stored into internal SD card.
Does anyone help to enlightening me on how to get back to live for my internal SD card drive?
Thanks in advance!

Try to disable and re-enable the mass storage.
The error should only occur after the boot.

Hi Paolo,
Thanks for your advice. However, I tried to disable & re-enable the mass storage under storage - USB computer connection still can't solve my problem as computer keep asking to "insert a disk" when I click the internal SD card drive.
Any idea?
Thanks.
hi all,
after reset all setting to default factory setting, the internal SD card mass storage issue had been settled. Thanks for your concern and advice.

Connect to your PC?
You are not being clear.
You connect it using the USB cable.
If you meant to say the PC can't detect it, you still have to tell in what way, as storage, in Odin, etc, etc?

Hi All,
Same problem comes back again after I've done factory reset to my GT-P1000. Besides this, I discover that the radio keeps telling me no service but I still can access my mail using mobile data network (not WiFi).
Other than these, my GT-P1000 will reboot itself automatically. Please be informed that I did flashing this from original GB to this ROM directly.
Is there any advice can be taken? I don't wish keep factory resetting my GT-P1000 in order to access the internal SD again.
Another issue need to find out is how to switch the picture storage location from internal SD to external SD after camera snapped?
Please help, thanks!

It sounds like you're trying to use it on your internal memory, which won't work because it needs the system to mount it using MTP. If you're trying to use it on your Sdcard, then just remove the sdcard, put it in an Sdcard adapter, and connect that to the computer, which will be properly mounted and recognized by your operating system.
You can't do it directly from the phone without an OS to mount either of the memories; also, I've never heard of of any software recovery working on MTP. Storage drives generally have to be mounted as mass storage devices, not MTP.
Sony Pc companion will only see the phone in mtp but I can access the internal memory from there. That being said I can only access the sd card throw the computer I think this is because pc companion loads adb drivers when I run throw the program and takes them off when I close the program I want to have free access to the internal memory with out using the pc compaion maybe leave the drivers on the pc. please help

Yes, but I think you're missing the point that MTP won't work. Even on the Tenorshare website it says you have to enable USB storage when connected to your PC, in other words, MSC, not MTP, in other words, it doesn't read the internal memory.
http://www.tenorshare.com/guide/how-to-recover-android-data.html
Windows doesn't need adb drivers to communicate between MTP devices. You still haven't stated which memory you're trying to recover files from... can't help you if you don't answer simple questions.
Yes I agree with you I need to be in msc mode to see the internal memory. When I am in msc my computer will not recognize my phone. The only way I can access my internal memory is throw the sony software pc companion the software loads sa0105 adb interface driver every time I use the software and takes them back off when I close it. I can go throw internet explorer and see the drivers but I cant copy or move them. I am just trying to access the drive without using the software. sorry for the confusion thanks for your help

Ok, well, I'm not trying to be rude, but I don't see what you're agreeing to, because that's not what I'm saying. The internal storage can't be mounted as MSC, so you'll never see it mounted in Windows, no matter what you try, even if your PC were able to recognize your phone.
If you were trying to recover data from your external memory it would be an entirely different story. You could connect it to your computer with an adapter like I said earlier and then recover the data.

When I connect (USB cable) my new Huawey P9 to a Laptop (Win7) Windows recognize it as a new drive, but can not open the files on Cards. With my old Samsung Galaxy this was possible, and easy and comfortable. For example easy to copy MP3 files from laptop to card, and listening them on phone.
Is that possible with Huawey P9?
Did you tap "files" from pull-down menu, or it's still "charge only"?
Yes, I did it. And unlocking of the phone's screen also.

Yes, I have drivers and HiSuite also. But still I can access the SD card of the Phone from my Laptop, but accessible from Phone of curse. Is that possible that the problem is that the SD card is a Samsung type? With Samsung Galaxy N700 the access was rather simple with USB connection (fast), and the card was readable a writable too by Windows.
To be clear: how to access (simplest, fastest way) the SDcard of a mobile from a WIN-Laptop?

I understand you...
I have no problems at all... Lucky me
I know just one more thing you can try - transfer all data from SDcard to PC - use card reader, or transfer to internal memory, if you have space, then format SDcard from recovery or withing phone settings. Might help... :fingers-crossed:

I did it in the end! The way: Taping seven times at the Build number enables the developer mode. Than:
1 Enabling error-checking on USB
2 Enabling application checking on USB
3 USB configuration: MTP
Now it works as I prefer.
I had the intention of formatting as you suggested, but is seems that this is the way needed.
Thanks for advices!

I Is it possible to mount the internal storage as USB Mass Storage device on the PC. I like to sync the memory to PC from time to time. It is important that the internal storage is mounted as a separate drive and not a portable device.

Yes, just select the USB notification you get when you connect it and instead of charging you can choose to mount it as a drive.

When I select File Transfer option, it mounts as a portable device and not with a drive letter. As a portable drive I am able to access the files but cannot do automated backups using many backup software. Need to mount with a drive letter.

There's a reason for that. Read this:

Alternatively, you could enable USB debugging and use ADB commands or something to back up device data.

Lol! My linux box can read any file system. The issue is that internal storage is part of data now.
That said usb mass storage drivers work fine. There is a virtual cd drive with drivers. Im just wondering what linux /dev that is on the phone so I can wipe it and cram something else in there… make a rescue boot out of my phone!
